I've been here off and on in the past, but I am finally ready to join in and recommit to my goal to creating a lifelong, healthy lifestyle. So, without further adieu...
My name is Casey, and I turned 28 a couple months ago. I have fluctuated greatly in weight from about 175 to my weight now, which is my highest to date, at 270. [My usual body weight has usually been between 225 and 240.] I had lost almost 50 pounds last year, but I lost track of myself after my dad died, had a major move to the East coast, and spent lots of time traveling to the West coast for various family reasons. Without dragging this out into a full history, my major turning point has been losing my dad at 58 to a heart attack - which is WAY too young - and feeling how close I am getting to 30. My goal is to be healthy again before my 30th birthday, which I think is a pretty realistic and achievable goal if I keep at it. My husband and I have also tried getting pregnant to no avail, and aside from other health issues, I believe my weight is getting in the way of that. Already being 28 and never having had a child of my own is, like seeing this number on a scale, another major reality check. The older I get, the more I have felt like it's never going to happen. Hopefully, that is something else that will change before I am 30.
Another thing of note is that I am a vegetarian. However, I've been living a high carb, low activity, convenience-based lifestyle, so it doesn't show on the outside. My aim is to incorporate at least 50% raw over the next few months and possibly more over the course of this next year. I am also considering going vegan, as I know cheeses and creamy sauces are a huge setback for me personally. Anyone have experience with going raw, vegan, or both?
Anyways, that's it for now...not sure how much we are supposed to include in these! Haha. I look forward to making friends and allies in this new life. I guess with the coming of the new year, there is no better time to begin! Here is to 2013!

Welcome! I think your goal is very realistic. Losing weight takes time and it's easy to get discouraged, but if you just concentrate on living a healthy lifestyle the weight will come off and before you know it you'll be 50 pounds lighter again. I also wanted to say that I got pregnant after losing weight and I attribute it to that, although I wasn't trying to get pregnant lol.
Hey there!
I'm a newbie here and I saw in your post that you are vegetarian. I always wanted to go in that direction but just didn't have the know how. I was not vegetarian up until about 4 weeks ago. I desparatly need to lose weight and I desparately need to get my cholesterol down along with high blood pressure and border line diabetes. Then I fell upon the Eat to Live diet by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. It's a vegan/vegitarian/low carb diet. I decided for my own health I needed to give this one a shot as I've tried everything under the sun before. I can't tell you how AMAZING I feel! But it is hard for me because I'm not very creative in the kitchen so I tend to be a little boring in the meal preparation area. Anyway... Welcome!
