Default We Got Our First Two Eggs!!!

My husband has known for years how badly I wanted my own "farm" and to be out in the country. Well, 7 months ago, he found a 5 acre lot for rent and we moved out here! We love it here and are hoping to buy it!

Anyway, shortly after moving in, my hubby surprised me by buying me 6 chicks, and we hand raised them. They are now grown and beautiful! And yesterday, one of our Australorps laid her very first egg!!!

We were so excited that anyone driving by must have thought we were crazy, jumping up and down and hootin' and hollerin'! But the truth is, we were just on the edge of our seats waiting for eggs!!!

On a slow week, we may only get 6 eggs on average. On a good week, we could get up to 30, as the breeds we have can average up to 5 a week each chicken! I'm so tickled! Can't wait to be able to share with my friend!!!

How awesome! Nothing like fresh eggs... now you need a cow for the fresh milk. OMG!

I'm wanting dairy goats and they will be our next investment! I just need to get the nannies, and my neighbors farrier has a billy he will let breed to our nannies. It works out great, because the male will be off our property and I read that if the male is near the lactating females, the milk will get musky. (Ew...) But I love goat milk and think it would be amazing to have it fresh!

That is so Awesome!

I used to have a co-worker who's dad had a chicken farm. She'd take orders, and bring them in weekly. That was SO convenient!! I love the fresh eggs. I even 'felt' healthier I lost my egg connection once she got another job and left us... eggless...

That is beyond exciting! Are they small, like pullet eggs? They will get bigger as the hens get older.

I started with chickens three years ago and I just love them! I am in the process of hatching eggs from my own chickens right now. I feel like a proud grandparent! Lol

My parents used to have bantam chickens (miniatures). They used to lay these tiny eggs. Everyone once in a while, we'd get an egg about the size of a nickel with no yolk inside.
