Default What is Hummus?!

I know, silly question...and I've been on this forum long enough that I should have asked by now..but everyone is always talking about it and saying it's healthy and yummy..and I have NO EARTHLY IDEA what it is...

And how do you eat it?...like by itself? or on something?...

Can you find it in any grocery store?

lol. I need some new food to eat, the stuff I've been sticking too, I'm really getting sick of.

Thanks guys

It's delicious!

It's a dip made of ground garbanzo beans, tahini paste (made from sesame seed), olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic. Boy, that description sounds gross, but really it's quite good. Sometimes I use it instead of mayo on a sandwich (great with roasted veggies), other times I eat it on pita wedges. Yummy.

I eat it almost every day! I have it with sliced red peppers. Sometimes other veggies, too. A lot of folks use it as a spread on pita bread.

You can find it in the grocery store (in and around the deli, I think). It always tastes best fresh to me. It's fairly simple to make if you have a food processor.

Answer - tasty!

I put it in tuna salad instead of mayo if I have it on-hand. I eat it with veggies, spread it on wraps and sandwiches...it's a great spread!

I love it! But I'm picky and make my own. I can't stand even a little bit of fluffiness and prefer a firmer spread than most commercial hummus. I also add roasted red bell pepper to the mixture

addicted hummus which why i rarely buy it now. because once i start eating it i cannot stop. i usually have mine with pita bread or cucumbers.

hummus is loaded with calories so just once your portion when you eat it.

you can actually make your own hummus at home. just Google a recipe for hummus

I would say hummus is moderate-calorie, for a dip. A traditional hummus has around 60-80 calories per 2 tbsp, which is around a third of what you'd find in peanut butter or other nut butters. It also has a considerable amount of healthy fat.

If you're concerned about the calories, you can make your own with way less olive oil than most commercial processor uses...whir up some garbanzos, a little tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and a little chicken broth to thin it out.

I always thought it was made with chick peas. I guess there are other ways to make it. Anyways it IS mmm mmm good! I usually eat it with some celery or I mix it with some boneless skinless chicken breast and corn. Its a weird combo but tasty!

Mediterranean deliciousness. Goes well with whole-wheat pita bread and vegetables. Have some tzatziki dip alongside and you've got yourself a nice snack.
