Question Morning Exercise

Should I eat before my morning workout? I have heard its best on an empty stomach. I have read so many different answers and wanted to see what has worked for you guys.

Thanks!

If I work out in the morning it's 5am and it takes all I got to get the video going. So I do 30 Day Shred on E.

I don't eat before my morning workout, assuming that it's the first thing I do that day. I just drink a ton of water and eat breakfast after I've worked out and showered.

If I do a very early workout I don't eat, I run on coffee... Some must eat or they feel sick, some eat and feel sick... It just depends on how YOU feel.

I've gone back and forth and I have settled mostly on "it depends on what kind of workout I have planned". I dont eat a full breakfast regardless, but if I have high intensity stuff planned, I simply dont get as much intensity on an empty stomach.

That being said, I have over the years developed a greater and greater tolerance for running with food in my stomach. It takes time for the body to learn to digest and exercise.

in the morning before i work out i eat a slice of whole grain toast & a glass of water. i don't have to but i feel like i have a better workout if i do that. by the time i'm done at the gym, it's usually around lunch time.

I eat a banana (sometimes in the car on the way to boot camp) then the rest of my breakfast after I get to work. I don't know if I really need the banana but why mess with success?

I'm one who gets sick if I eat first thing, so I eat after. I think it's up to you.

Research will point you both ways.

I eat before and after working out.
I eat breakfast at home (usually cereal with skim milk at around 7AM) and about an hour later I start working out at the gym. Then when I'm done, after taking a shower and on my way to class (around 10AM), I eat a piece of fruit, a banana or an apple.

I do think that there's no right or wrong in whichever you choose to do as long as your body agrees with your decision. For me it is impossible to workout on an empty stomach (I'd collapse) and for other people they may feel like throwing up even if they only eat a piece of toast.

Just me, but I'm someone who just can't eat when I first get up. I go to the gym before work at 5 a.m. and just bring my breakfast with me and eat when I get to work at 7. Some people may feel weak without breakfast first. All up to what your body wants!

When I was getting up at 5 and going running, I sometimes tried to have a bit of something, like half a banana or something, before running, because it seemed like I should. But I could never tell that it helped. I mostly just ran on an empty stomach. I do yoga first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for an hour or more. It's fine (and indeed kinda necessary). I do drink lots of water while running or doing yoga. I don't know if I need it, people always say water is only necessary on longer runs, but I always feel thirsty and enjoy drinking it.

If I'm working out first thing in the morning I wait to eat after I've had a shower, but if I workout later then I probably will eat something first (unless I'm doing an intense workout, then I'll skip).

I run at 4am. No way in the world could I eat anything that early!

I'm just the opposite- if I don't eat, I feel nauseated, and if I work out for too long, I start to dry heave.

It definitely goes both ways, and it just depends on you personally- try it both ways and see what feels better to you.
