Hugs to all in this thread. I posted a few months back on page 2. Even though I know how tiresome it is to be on the receiving end of unsolicited medical advice, I thought I'd pop back in to share one other little-known item that did actually help me sleep (so, so many things have not).
This is definitely a "talk with your doctor first" item, but some of you may want to research a substance called phenibut. The Soviets came up with it in the '60s and it's been heavily used there since then, so at least there is some data on relative safety - but it still definitely not a mainstream item. ... My doctor got me some to try after a serious bout of non-sleeping (and years of trying many other tactics). For me, it works. A little too well. Very, very small dosages would knock me out - anything approximating a standard dose was far too much (groggy day after). I still keep some on hand for those "in case of emergency, break glass" situations of really bad sleep flare-ups. In my case, really poor sleep can become a self-perpetuating pattern -- the phenibut is a bit like a sledgehammer, but it helps disrupt / prevent severe patterns from taking hold.
Anyway - apologies, because I rather hate posts like this one.
In case even one person gets a better night's sleep, though, I'm OK with being "that person" in this thread, haha. (That said - sorry if you found this post obnoxious. Hoping for better sleep for everyone here.)
