Default Heart Rate monitor question

I just purchased a Polar F4 heart rate monitor. At the end of my workout, it calculated that I had burned over 300 calories. The treadmill registered about 100 calories less than the HRM.

I assume the HRM is more accurate because it factors in age, weight, height, and gender whereas the treadmill doesn't. Am I correct in my assumption?

Yes. The readouts on machines are usually pretty imprecise estimates.
