South Beach Diet - TGIF! Feb. 18,05View Full Version : TGIF! Feb. 18,05 Bamiegurl 02-18-2005, 08:16 AM Quick start up. DH does not have to leave til later this morning! I have an eye appt. this morning for this new pair of contacts. They work! I can see! lol I'll be back later. Have a great day all! tlcstar 02-18-2005, 08:51 AM Good Morning All! :sunny: I'm glad I'm not the only one who is up early all the time!! I'm glad it is Friday, I'm off to babysit the day away with a very cute and fun 17 month-old boy. I've been watching him since he was 10 months and we always have a great time....today is play-doh madness at the library! I know he'll try to eat it...I think that is definetely not on Phase 1!! I wind up walking at least a couple of miles with him in the course of the day, which is an added perk Ruth: Not to scare you or anything, but mice just don't want food in your car, they want warmth too!! I once had several living in my oil filter...they had burrowed themselves a nice little nest! I didn't know this until I got my oil changed and saw the evidence! Hope everyone has a great Friday and upcoming weekend! Peace- 2BFIT1 02-18-2005, 09:09 AM Good morning~ I need to get more coffee , I'll be back :coffee: ellis 02-18-2005, 09:13 AM Nice image, Sil. Where the hoodle dooo is it? :lol3: You'd better get some more coffee quickly. Bamie, that's great news about your contacts!! :hat: tlc, mice in your oil! UGH!!! :yikes: I've got the day to myself (God willing), which is good, because I'm verging on a breakdown here. :( Hope everyone has a wonderful day... amb_lyn 02-18-2005, 09:17 AM Good Morning Ladies~ Just a quick drive by. Wanted to say HI before I went off to have my teeth yanked outta my head. EEK!! I will be back on Monday. Have no fear, all OP for me, sf jello, sf pudding...need i go on? HA HA!! Have a Great OP Weekend! 2BFIT1 02-18-2005, 09:20 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v722/rnsilvia/untitled.bmp I feel like this right now and I'm on my second cup of coffee. 2BFIT1 02-18-2005, 09:21 AM Ellis~What's wrong sweetie?? Is there anything I can do to help?? Amber~~Ask for good pain meds!!!! Good luck! Ruth~~I told you: the mice are enjoying those heated seat :lol3: Ruthxxx 02-18-2005, 09:40 AM Brats! You chicks, not the mice. Now I need to figure out where my "oil filter" thingie is and check it. I've not gone out to see if my first battle of the mice was won by me or not. I need to go to the bank at 10 and will check then. Wish me luck. Well, I hit the darn Chinese buffet yesterday in town and my weight is UP a whole three pounds! Yes, I know it's water weight as I couldn't have eaten 1050 calories but it still pisses me off! All I had was a single plate and it was mostly veggies - well, sort of mostly. :( Water and good stuff is the plan for today - I even had a cup of chop-chop salad for breakfast with my Laughing Cow and 2 Ryecrisp! Need to dash through the shower and dress in something to impress the stupid bank manager with my financial acumen. I'll sit there, listening to her, and plan a Chatelaine makeover. This woman has no bad features but is a really plain and beige person. She's slim and trim too which is even more annoying! I'm a *****. Geez, sorry this sounds so negative. It's amazing how discouraging three pounds is! Karen 02-18-2005, 09:53 AM Barb...Here are the ingredients for the two Campbell's "Soup at hand" that I have... New England Clam Chowder...clam broth, potatoes, celery, water, clam meat, vegetable oil(corn cottenseed, canola and or soybean) Vegetable Medley....chicken stock, carrots, tomato puree (water, tomato paste) water, potatoes, roasted red peppers, green peas, celery I have also bought the tomato. I don't have any of those now so I don't know the ingredients on that one. The containers are 10 3/4 oz. and it's the ones that have a lid like a cup and you pop it in the microwave and go. Ruthxxx 02-18-2005, 10:05 AM Barb...Here are the ingredients for the two Campbell's "Soup at hand" that I have... Potatoes are for Phase III and carrots are not allowed until Phase II. The oils are a no-no too. Better hang onto them for the future. anchor weight 02-18-2005, 10:19 AM Morning all! Where's Raneysmom? Hope everything went well last night!!!! I was thinking of you. Ruth - Mice - I once had them burrow into the insulation in the back of my stove. They ruined a perfectly good stove!!!! Bami - Good news on the contacts. I'm in dire need of new ones. tlcstar - have a great time today. Think of all the calories you will burn. amblyn - thinkin about ya! Good luck sil - that is hilarious!!! I feel like that a lot! Rustyfan- I keep vegetable broth in my fridge at work. Low sodium, low fat, no carbs. Ellis - Try and have a good day! Postive vibes to you. I'm fighting this cold/flu crap everyone in my house has. I've cranked more green tea in the past two days. I have a massage before I see the chiropracter today. I'm hoping he gives me the thumbs up to start exercising again. The climb through the ceiling the other day may have caused a new problem. Now my neck doesn't hurt anymore but the middle of my back does. Getting old is fun isn't it? I have been saving my rottissiere chicken carcasses - I have ten of them in deep freeze. I'm going to make a gigantic pot of chicken soup and also some white bean chili. YUM! DS and I actually have a weekend together so we are going shopping after his Sat am hockey. Have a great day! ellis 02-18-2005, 10:28 AM Thanks, Sil and Amy. :grouphug: I think my meds have stopped working, which will mean either upping the dose or changing them. Again. :( I'm just so tired of it all... Barb0522 02-18-2005, 10:29 AM Sorry about the soup, Karen, but Ruth has said it perfectly. I'll bet you could make your own really easily. For the clam chowder: I would saute some onions and garlic (because I love them but they are optional) and some celery in a little olive oil, Get a can of clams and I would probably rinse it since I bet it has salt added, add some chicken broth and maybe a finely diced turnip to take the place of the potatoe. If you want to thicken it, in phase 1 I would use arrowroot. In phase 2, you could add a little cornstarch or whole wheat flour. For the other soup, I bet we have some similar ones in our recipe forum. I made the Broccoli Cheese soup for dinner last night. It heats up great for leftovers. I skip the step about pureeing part of it in the food processor so it is really fast. Just skip the whole wheat flour or substitute arrowroot to make it phase 1. It is listed in the recipe forum under phase 2 soups. Ruth - I'm sure it is the sodium. I almost always gain for a day or two after eating out chinese. I just don't do it often, make good choices when I do, and enjoy it while I am eating it. Be careful with the mice. I've heard of them eating the wiring in the car. Me - I'm up a half pound today but I know I ate too much WW pita bread yesterday (or was it too much dark chocolate :) ) Oh, well, I'm not going to worry about one day's variation. I didn't sleep great last night which is a real bummer because I'm working tonight starting at 11PM. I'm hoping we will be done by 6 but in any case, it will be my first night without sleep since I've been sick. Maybe I can get a nap in tomorrow. I'm hoping to get to the gym tomorrow morning now that my cough is a little better. I guess it will depend on how I feel. Karen 02-18-2005, 10:39 AM Ruth...Thanks, I figured as much as. I guess it was just wishful thinking. I guess I really knew as soon as I saw the ingredients... Amy...Thanks for the tip on the broth. Sounds good to me.. Karen 02-18-2005, 10:44 AM Barb...Thanks for the tips on the soup. I'm on my way over to the soup recipes now. ;) beachgal 02-18-2005, 10:47 AM Bamie, did you get the contacts already or are you just hoping they will work? :?: I have contacts and love them. I feel so much more free with them than I did with glasses. ;) Have fun with DH! :flame: tlc: I envy your day...what great fun! And I bet you are right about playdoh! Enjoy your sweet day! Ellis, do what you need to do to help yourself feel better. :grouphug: I'm always here if you need it. Your "hoodle doo"ing is cracking me up as much as Bamie and her tee-hees! Amb_lyn: :goodvibes: going out to you today! I know it'll be fine. :D Sil: you are cracking me up, girl! That image is perfect! Ruth: what are you doing, starting a mouse commune? I told you to live-trap them, not provide little heated seats for them in your car! :lol3: I knew you had a soft spot in your heart for animals, but really! ;) Me: No date with GYM this morning...DH got jealous and set the alarm for 7. I feel rested and refreshed anyways...Jazzercise was great last week! I have no school next week so I'm going to do an extra class at the Y...body sculpting. They use those huge balls that I always fall off of, so at least I'll provide a good show! We might have dinner with some friends on Saturday night, but otherwise this should be a weekend of working on applications to school districts and my resume. I also need to read a ton of articles in prep for writing a 30 page paper next weekend. :faint:  to all the friends who peck in after me... Hope everyone has a great weekend!!! :D chipper15173 02-18-2005, 11:05 AM Morning grumpies are all over the beach this mornig :(. CHEER UP :). Remember your day is what you make of it. I was in the grumpy club too, until my dear sweet SIL called and said he would be here in a few minutes and pick up the GB's. He had a sinus headache and his medicine was at home and he also found out something that he ordered was coming in today and someone has to be home to get it, it comes by a freight truck. So, he just decided to take the day off. So, now I can clean my house and maybe go shopping for a new outfit to wear on a family outing tomorrow and get a nap and do my nails. So, my day has turned into a very good day. :). Joining WW next week, but, staying here on the beach with you guys. Their site isn't too friendly. No one bets hanging out with y'all. I hope everyone has a good day, get out of the grumpies, the sun is shinning (at least here, cold, but shinning). It's Friday :). I wish I could wear contacts, but, have to bad of vision. I had all my teeth pulled out, 13 at one time and the rest on a second visit. I have dentures now. I had real bad gum disease. They were falling out. And they let my DH watch both times. He thought it was interesting. The only thing I really miss my teeth for is chewing gum. I had mice in my glove compartment. Big river rats in the shed. Well, goin to start cleanin. Have to get the dust, the allergies are getting bad again. Cheer up everyone. beachgal 02-18-2005, 12:31 PM Glad you'll be sticking with us, Chipper! :D Barb, sorry about the pound...Ruth, too. But you both know that it'll fall back off. Just chug a lot of water today. Ruth, maybe you can pour some in a dish for the mice to have a skating rink in the car? Sorry hon, just can't help teasing you. Mice in the car is rather funny! I told my coworker about your mice in the car issue and she said her son has the same problem! His car is rarely driven (he's at college), but when she drove it recently, she turned on the vent and a bunch of shredded napkin bits flew out! They opened the glove box and found shredded napkins and mice poops! Another friend of hers was driving merrily along when a mouse ran right across her foot! :yikes: I love mice but can't imagine finding any in my car! Hope that this day turns out much better for everyone. A big :grouphug: for you all that things look brighter! Rusty, try Progresso Lentil Soup...it's delicious and SBD-friendly. Karen 02-18-2005, 12:43 PM These stories are so funny about the mice. But if the truth be known, I would have had a heart attack if a mouse ran over my foot. I would have died on the spot. I'm scared to death of them :faint: Can you tell.. Laurie...Thanks for the tip on the Progresso. I love soup... Rayneysmom 02-18-2005, 12:50 PM Here I am Amy ~ I bet ya'll missed me huh  Been getting my "hiney" exercise this AM. Lots to do and not enough time in the day. Oh well. Last night went great. I decided yesterday afternoon to Let Go and Let God and the words just came to me last night. I talked for an hour and had half the room in tears by the time I was done. My work there was done  No, really, I felt really good when I got through. Now, some of the other people from other groups are calling me - asking me to come to their groups and speak. Whoda thunk it? Thanks to all of you who gave me the encouragement I needed. :thanks: Ruth ~ Those meeces are the worst thing I have ever seen to get rid of ~right up there with cockroaches and ants in my opinion. Just start the car ~ they'll leave if they are in your "oil thingie"   :lol3: Kellie ~ Great on the contacts thing :cp: Sil ~ I think we probably ALL have days that we feel like that ~ Cute Ellis ~ Chin up hon. We're all here for you ~ just like you are here for us every day. We love you :grouphug: Laurie & Barb ~ Rusty ~ stick with Barb and Ruth ~ they'll keep you straight  Chipper ~ Have a great day off. Well, I'm off to try to finish up what I started an hour ago. Heh. Ya'll have a great day on the Beach ~~~~~~Love Ya   Karen 02-18-2005, 01:17 PM I was up .4 this morning. I thought it was from the pinto beans I had last night but I just saw where we can only have "one" serving of pistachios. I've been eating 2 or 3. So, I printed up the list and will be carrying it with me wherever I go. I don't know how I missed that one... :o beachgal 02-18-2005, 01:52 PM Rayneysmom, I am SOOO proud of you! :bravo: What great work! Sounds like you've made it to Step 12...able to share your path with others to help them on their path. Thank you for doing that...and congrats on such wonderful success! :grouphug: :cp: :cb: :cheer: :high: :cp: Karen, those nuts can do you in every time! Here's what you can have: 30 pistachios, 20 peanuts, 15 almonds, 15 cashews, 15 macadamias, or 15 hazelnuts. You can also have 2 Tbsp of nut butter IN PLACE of any of these. Pick ONE from the list each day, then no more. When I want a snack that's "nutlike", sometimes I eat roasted soy nuts (they are actually beans). Yum! :T But don't stress about it...as long as you keep reading and watching what you are doing, you'll be fine! We've all made little oops like that as we learned the plan. :D HunnyBee 02-18-2005, 02:13 PM HI Gals... Okay not doing sooo good today.. been munching on dark chocolate covered hazelnuts that my boss brought back from OR... they are my fave... I also went to Chinese buffet for and didnt' eat OP>.. ugh.. I plan to be OP after lunch and the rest of the day! Taco Bake for dinner tonight um.. My X  is stressing me out and sent me this vague email about being out and medical concerns for dd... It was so cryptic... Anyway, Im stressing over this what is he trying to pull now?? :?: I swear he does this to make me upset.. I wish he would go to deserted island somewhere and stay.. Im stressed... can't wait to go home from work.. :( 1day@atime 02-18-2005, 02:16 PM Thanks for posting the info on the nuts. I have been eating the pistachios and 2tbs of peanut butter. :nono: Day 5 is a little hard for me. With lent I can't have meat today and I don't like seafood. Drinking water is becoming harder too. Karen 02-18-2005, 02:35 PM Laurie...I have soy nuts at home but I have a feeling I can't have these. Here are the ingredients.. Garlic and Onion Soy Nuts: soybeans, sunflower oil, sugar, salt, yeast extract, spices, onion powder, garlic powder. Smoky BBQ Soy Nuts: soybeans, sunflower oil, sugar, salt, yeast, spices, onion powder, tomato powder, garlic powder, citric acid, artificial flavor, silicon dioxide. Rayneysmom 02-18-2005, 02:52 PM Rusty ~ Stick with PLAIN soynuts. Like Laurie said - they are actually soy BEANS. All that flavoring and stuff is what you can't have. Laurie ~ Through what you have posted over the last couple of days to me ~ it sounds as if you are very familiar with AA. :?: Oh, and to answer the questions about whether DH goes to Al-Anon - yes he does. He had his meeting last night. It's just taking a while longer for him to accept that I can FINALLY take care of myself without him hovering - dreading what I might do next. Thanks for the support hon. It means alot to me. ;) Hunny ~ LAY OFF THE CHOCOLATE GIRLIE OR YOU WILL BE SORRY :o . And you have too much to be excited over with the engagement and all. Don't let your (yours OR his) Ex's ruin what the two of you have. Tell them both to take a leaping jump at a rolling doughnut. Or doughnut hole, they may miss that easier and land on their faces   Good luck and don't stress about things or other people you have no control over. You can't change them. So just spend your time being happy :) with you new beau. Amber ~ How's the teeth ~ or lack thereof?? ;) Hope you're feeling better soon. Bamiegurl 02-18-2005, 02:55 PM Hey all! Well I didn't make it to my appt. I was soooo tired. I couldn't go to sleep last night and this morning I just felt so crappy I called and changed it. But atleast I finally have a pair that works. He said this was my last chance! lol I slept til noon on the couch!!!!!!! I have a ton of stuff I needed to be doin! We have a dinner to go to tonight for DH work. A guy is retirin. I have DD's uniform in the washer now. I still feel cruddy and don't want to do anything!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH! Of all days. No time to post to everyone since y'all have been so chatty! lol Kelly...I am glad everything went so good for you lastnight! Ruth...I have seen signs of those thangs in my pantry! UGH! I can't stand the thought! If I find one in my van... Well y'all might be hearin about it on the news! I have to get goin. The washer just stopped and my sheets are beggin to be next! lol Have a great day all! I'm sure mine will turn around! (right Ellis?) beachgal 02-18-2005, 03:38 PM Rusty, Rayneysmom is right, stick with plain. I get mine with sea salt, roasted without oil. They are pretty harmless, so I reach for them when I just can't stop my cravings. Rayneysmom, that's why I'm familiar with AA...I'm in OA. I definitely have an addiction, but it's to overeating, not alcohol. There are tons of similarilities, but you can't go cold turkey from food. :o I'm still not fully through Step 1 (as you can tell, from my soynut eating) and the only local meetings within an hour and a half of me are held on the same night that I have class...so I'm really missing the support right now. There are meetings online, but it's tough to feel comfortable opening up with a whole new group of people, you know. :o I'm looking forward to getting back into meetings when my classes are over. :goodvibes: HunnyBee, those dark chocolate hazelnuts are OP on Phase II and III. You want to stick with no more than 1 oz of chocolate and no more than 15 nuts. But if you are in Phase 1, you'll want to start over--you need two full weeks of detox and any cheating sets you back at 0. So if that's the case, try to find some other ways to destress, like closing your eyes and imagining cuddling with your fiance ( ), taking deep breaths, going for a walk, posting here, or venting with a friend. You CAN do this, girl! :D :grouphug: I second Rayneysmom, your ex does not deserve to spoil your current happiness. Don't let him! :grouphug: Bamie, I'll speak for Ellis (who should be taking a nice nap right about now...it's her turn. ;) ) and say that your day will turn around, any minute now! :D  :grouphug: anchor weight 02-18-2005, 05:21 PM Raneysmom~ YEAH! :encore: You did it. Congrats. Laurie - hugs to you - :grouphug: we love you and you can always open up here to us. You know that. You know I struggle with OA too. Love the book - Why Can't I Stop Eating - it has helped me tremendously. All my vices are tied together. If I have more than 2 glasses of wine I've been known to eat a whole bunch of crusty brownie edges. For me abstinence is the best policy. I'm having an adult beverage, sugar, and fat - free weekend. Mice  we used to put moth balls underneath the cars we had in storage because mice won't go anywhere near them. Never stopped the bees though. Bami - You laundry is inspriring me. I think I'll go do some wash. I hate wash. Honeybee - I can't touch anything sweet. Even stuff flavored with splenda and other artificial sweetners. It triggers my sweet tooth really bad even though it's not sugar. Like the brownie crash I had last weekend. I was just going to have a smidge of the crusty edge and I ended up eating a ton. HunnyBee 02-18-2005, 06:18 PM :grouphug: You guys (anchor weight, beach gal, rayneysmom) brought tears to my eyes. thanks for supporting me. I am on PH11. My X  can get me anytime! U all are right! Thank you... :encore: I will NOT emotional eat. sweet tooth 02-18-2005, 06:32 PM Well, today is quiet at work, the boss just told me to go home (but I have to wait for DH), and Monday is a holiday (our government declared the third Monday in February as Family Day). Can things get any better today? Yes, and they just did. I finished reading all your posts and I'm in such a good mood. tlc - When I first read your post, I did a double take. I thought that it said you were babysitting a 17 year old... Thought to myself - That would be fun. Hope the day is special and the play doh gets into everything. Have fun. amber - Hope you are feeling OK. I just had my wisdom teeth out last June. I thought that it would put me down a day, then I would be back at it. I'm just not 30 anymore and it took me quite a while to recover. When I was at home sick, feeling sorry for myself, I booked a trip to Mexico... Ruth - Don't worry about the mice. They will move out when it gets warm, as long as you don't feed them. We get mice every fall when the weather turns cold...they just move right in. I woke up one morning with one on my pillow staring me in the face. I bolted up, then DH bolted, thinking he would fight the burglar and save the damsel in distress. The funnier picture was watching him, buck naked, chasing the mouse around the bedroom with a stick. Anchor - Here's wishes hoping you get the thumbs up on the exercise. If you have more problems with the back, don't push it. You don't want to take any chances with long term problems with your back. ellis - Take care...thinking of you. Laurie - Have a great, realxing weekend. Don't do too much homework, that can always wait until midnight the night before. ;) Rayneysmom - WTG, girl. You are such a good example of working through an addiction. You are such an inspiration. Take care. Hunnybee - The hardest part of staying OP for me is when people bring treats in to work. I have finally gotten to the point of just saying no, and it really doesn't bother me, but it is difficult getting to that point. I started by accepting and eating a bite, or two, then switching to an OP snack that I alway have on hand. That helped me to get through the snack times and to also feel like I wasn't being deprived. Don't let the stress get to you. Remember who owns the problem and don't take it off his hands. You can do this... Me - I have had a couple busy and chaotic weeks here. Two weeks ago, I took a day off work to visit with friends that we have only caught up to after 35 years. When I was 17, my dad died, and about the same time, her dad got transferred to another city. She married a fellow that we all met in university, but he was in his last year and we (my friend, DH (then boyfriend) and me) were in our first year. Her DH graduated, then joined the RCMP, she moved with her parents, and we lost touch...until last Easter. We caught up on email. The weekend together was spent talking...there was so much to catch up with. We had a great time. Then, last week, we found out that DM has a recurrence of breast cancer. I spent last week and this taking her to doctors. I got so busy with that, that I missed my own appointment to check my cancer. :( However, the dr. was kind enough to reschedule and I should be with it soon. The prognosis for DM does not look good, however, she seems to be taking it fairly well. She is 84 and in the first stages of dimentia, so she forgets a lot or what is going on around her. Probably a good thing in this case. Soooo, there lies my last couple of weeks. I have not been able to get my exercise in, but finally got back to the track today. It felt good to get out there again...and so quiet. It is reading week at the college here, so the students are all gone. I'm sure that is just the quiet before the storm, but we are about halfway through the last semester. It will be summer very soon now, providing this -25 weather would leave. :D Anyway, I guess that should be about enough complaining today. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll be back from days off on Tuesday... 2ndChance 02-18-2005, 07:48 PM Hello Ladies, My husband and I started the SBD Feb 1st......we made it thru Phase 1....with the help of the recipies I found here......crockpot chili, taco bake, President's chicken, Almond and Parmesan Crusted Chicken...just to mention a few....they were ALL very YUMMY! I can honestly say that this is the 1st time I've been satisfied when dieting....so I know we can make this a life change and NOT just a diet! :D :D I bought the book more than a year ago, but was side tracked last year with treatment......so now that I have a PERFECT 6mos check-up, I'm gun-ho in getting healthier......beside on OCTOBER 22, 2005 I will have completed 30 yrs of service at my work and can FORMALLY RETIRE!!! :cb:  :dancer: :cloud9:  :cheer: :balloons: :goodvibes Looking forward to talking to everyone! Mamacita 02-18-2005, 07:50 PM Evening, Chicks~~ Good heavens! All sorts of stuff going on today. Bamie, new eyes...kewl! Isn't it nice to be able to see clearly? Sil, I feel like that just about every morning...good thing most of my patients can't see without their glasses! Ruth, I feel your pain on the mice...we were dealing with their big brothers a while back. Finally had to resort to...please all you animal lovers don't hate me...POISON. I hated doing it, but dang it, rats are VERMIN and I had visions of plague and other disgusting diseases running in my brain...YEESH!! ((((Ellis)))) Feel better, Sweetie! ((((Hunnybee)))) So sorry you're being stressed by the :censored: That sucks...why can't they just go away when they're X's???? ((((Sweetooth)))) So sorry about your DM. You're both in my thoughts and prayers. A big  to the rest of you chicks. ME: I GOT MY RAISE...at least the boss said I got it. We'll see what my paycheck says next week before I get too excited. The final test on my bloodwork was negative for ANA. So, no rheumatoid arthritis. But the doc says I have 'arthralgia'... a fancy word for joint pain  He gave me some Bextra to get me through the next couple weeks of lousy weather and then we'll see where we're at. He's also put me on Glucophage for my weight...says I'm just stubbornly insulin resistant and I need a boost. I've also started on niacin to help get my trigycerides down. I feel like a frassing pharmacy on legs! So, we'll see what the next couple of weeks does... Hope you all have a great weekend. Mamacita Bamiegurl 02-18-2005, 11:01 PM Hey 2nd chance! Welcome to the beach! We're glad you survived and found us here on the beach. Swet Tooth...Sorry to hear about your DM. Prayers headin y'alls way! How fun to catch up with an old friend like that!
