No, the spray doesn't help much but the gel with aloe does help quite a bit. That's what we keep a bottle of. It has a cooling effect. It also keeps you from peeling so bad. If you would use a suntan lotion with a SPF of about 30 BEFORE you go out in the sun it might help!!! ;)

Mima ... I want to come to NY and visit all the musems ... NO FAIR!!!

I know ... I'll come to NY and visit you one summer and you can take me to the musems and to the great restaurants and a musical and then the next summer I'll go see Joanne and we'll go to the beach! Then the next summer you can both come here and I'll take you to Gatlinburg and we'll go to the Dixie Stampede one night!!! :dizzy:

Now, back to reality and Vacation Bible School songs! :p

Meme...I used suncreen but it was old!!!!!!!!!! something my kids left here cause I am never out in the daytime..part vampire you know:D We used to keep aloe gel on hand in the days when I did go out int he daylight hours......

Joanne..hope you tummy is feeling better! Animal hair I hate that..my animals are in the basement and I have to sweep down there everyday! I could not stand having a shedding animal in my living quarters! (and I love animals) Both my kids have allergies really bad too. What is Sun poisening?????????? I am itching realy bad, I always get like a red itchy rash from the sun..just do not tan, but have lots of freckels!

One robin left........mowed again, and been walking insde with my pedometer.

Subway wraps 3pts.....Yummmmmmm (if you get a 6 inch and substitute for the bread)

A sewing question???? When sewing elastic on something using a stretch stich do you have to stretch the elastic before sewing or just leave it natural? My thread keeps balling up! I have never used elastic before.............

Mima
06-15-2004, 08:10 AM
Stretch the elastic I think. Suntan lotion gets outdated. NoAd is inexpensive. I get a rash from too much sun so I have to be careful. I didn't go to NY Meme-Stockbridge MA -but we went to NY a month ago-saw Mama Mia-it costs a fortune but it;s worth it. Was there a day and a half and spent almost 500 I think-theater ticks were 100. Spent 64 on lunch for 2 but then we split a sandwich another time. We have been there a lot-my SIL and I -Come along, we will show you a good time. Going to condo today to meet cleaning lady and instruct her and pay her. Neck hurts like crazy because I am trying to finish the crossstitch for the wedding on 6/26. It's gorgeous. So many mistakes but no one will know, Bye Mima

Candice- Sun poisoning is a allergic reaction to sun. If the over the counter meds don't help you will need to go to Dr. and get something better. It does itch like crazy.I don't have a basement.. Not in Florida,I guess some houses do. I stretch the elastic as I sew. Measure waist.etc, pin in quarters and stretch as you sew with the elastic stitch on your machine.
My stomach feels better this am. I am just going to let up on the salad for today.I put cucumbers in it. I think that is what did me in. I usually use the seedless but didn't this week. They are so expensive.I did lose a couple pounds though.
I think I am going to be lazy today. I might get on the T/M at 3 pm. I think about it then..
Hello everybody...Joanne

I hate sewing elastic. I always tack it in by hand before I go to the machine, that way I know it's going to fit. An easier way to do it if you have enough material is to just sew down a 'band', put a big safety pin on the end of the elastic and push it though! If you're working with a garment that is already made, you can use seam binding on the inside of a waist band and do the same thing ... just slip-stitch the seam binding to the inside of the waist band (being careful not to go all the way through), put a safety pin on the end of the elastic, work it through and sew it at the end.

I scalpeled my ankle again last night and after the numbing stuff wore off it hurt so bad it kept me awake almost all night! :(

Candicej
06-16-2004, 05:22 AM
Thanks meme and joanne..I was stretching the elastic but it didn't seem to work. I was replacing the elastic in my knee pads and some underware (in the waist). I run elastic through anyting I can if it already has a band, like you said meme.

Still itching but it gets alittle better each day. The lotion I use attracts misquitos!!!!!!! We have west nile here really bad too!

Pulled weeds today and found 4 baby kittens, one was dead and two were lifeless. I called the animal emergency clinic and they told me to bring them in the house and try to get some milk and syrup down them and right now they are sleeping soundly. They shoud be hungry around 5 or 6 again. Not sure if we are keeping them or taking them to the humane society for care and adoption. DH does not want any more cats, says 3 is enough. Still not sure if they will even make it, but I am trying.

You would get along great with my aunt, Candice. She loves to rescue cats.Joanne, I had diverticulosis for a month from cucumber seed,s almost had to be hospitalized. Gotta dive Brad this am because he's getting his truck serviced. Found out that a graduation party was on the same day as our condo OPen House-was supposed to be the night before-Brad will go and then come down to the condo. Too much going on-I am glad we are going on vacation the last week in June. To Vermont. Quiet!!!!!!!That would be after the wedding and the church picnic the next day. TOO MUCH GOING ON !Still getting rid of stuff from Brad's mom's house. But not me-I don't lift. Bye for now. Mima I am going to change my name to Meme.

Memi- This has been a busy couple weeks for me too. I guess it will quiet down after this weekend. I want to find some time to go to my daughters this summer. She is a busy girl too. The school has signed her up for several workshops. At least she gets paid for that.
Candice. I too slide elastic through a casing whenever I can.Avon puts out a lotion that is good for the skin, smells nice, and will repel biting bugs. I use it all the time . I am allergic to bug bites.
Meme- I am a nurse and there is no way I would scalpel anything on my body. I don't know how you do it. Be really careful and don't get an infection.
Hello Happy. Ally and everybody...Joanne

MemeToo
06-17-2004, 03:15 AM
I'm being careful, I sterilize the scalpel really good and then wash it out with saline before putting on a new silver patch which also takes care of the infection. I've watched them do it so many times at the clinic I SHOULD be able to do it myself! Piece of cake! ;) Problem is ... it's not getting any better. I don't think it's EVER going to get any better unless I just get completely OFF my feet! Maybe after Bible School! We are going to NC on Saturday - coming back Monday ... VBS starts Monday goes through Friday so Maybe the next week I can just go to bed and stay there for awhile!

I'm so angry I could spit nails. Here we are, 5 days 'till Bible School starts and the director tells me she's having FIVE classes now instead of the original THREE she started out with. She was going to just have a nursery for the little ones ... too small to sing songs ... and then combine the Preschool and Kindergarten, have a Primary and then combine the Middlers and Juniors. She didn't have enough teachers to have four. So NOW she finds 2 more teachers and decides to have a Preschool class and a Teen class so I have to come up with FOUR more songs at the last minute. She didn't give me the material until LAST WEEK (I should have had it 2 months ago) so, counting the Theme Song, that means I have less than two weeks to learn 11 songs plus I have 7 songs I'm memorizing for the Women's Conference the Saturday after Bible School ... THAT'S EIGHTEEN SONGS!!! And 9 of them are action songs ... so I have to memorize the actions, too! The Theme is 'Power Up'! It's about (of all things) Exercising your Spirituality and in ALL 9 songs you're actually doing EXERCISE moves to the music ... like waist side bends, stretches, marching in place, moving your feet forward and back, pretending to lift a barbell things like that. I told hubby I'd probably lose 2 or 3 more pounds by the time VBS was over! :strong:

I want to go to your Bible School, Meme. Brad wants to move this ugly old desk downstairs so I have been cleaning it out-yikes-junk!!!Whole bag of it-more today, I don't know where to put everything. I FINISHED THE CROSSTITCH-now I hope it doesn't run when I wash it. I was making a list of things I will bring camping-of course, the kind of camping we do is a real vacation and we don't have to travel far-no phone, tv. They have a heated pool and hot tub. Great news-stepson broke up with the girlfriend with 3 kids. Never met her but didn;t think it was a good situation. Thank You God!!! Bye Mima

Meme- You must be pretty good to be singing as much as you do. I sure hope you find the healing for your leg wound.
Mima-I love those vacation spots with no yv ot phones.. No people and no huge shopping areas. St. George Island up in the panhandle of Fl. is/was one of those places. My daughter tells me it is growing by leaps and bounds there now.We would go there with food and clothes and enjoy a week.

d told me he invited his brother and his wife to come with us camping-I flipped. I had a picture in my mind of a peaceful retreat after all this hullabalu-anyhow-I agreed to one night but I don't know if they will come-I think the real reason is that he is a taker, sort of, we have had them here many times and they never have invited us over. I like them and we go out to eat together but.......There, I said it. The other grandma of Evan and Alison is up here visiting so they are coming to dinner Tues. I like them and they are so good to us in FL. Daughter broke up with boyfriend. They are coming Father's Day. Wouldn't it be nice if we all could go in a hot tub. Mima

Well Meme, hope you can remember the words to all those songs; somedays I can barely remember my name

You might have to take some Meme Time and just SIT and let that ankle heal. Nothing is more important than that. You sure don't want to end up losing your foot!!!!

Mima - I don't enjoy being with takers either. Some people are just that way, I guess. Maybe they never learned to share, or money is very important to them. Just don't know.

Hi Candice, Joanne, Anagram and Ally. Hope things are going well for you all today. Summer LOOKS like it might be here - at least right now. I am going outside to lay and read my book.

Everybody have a good day.

Joanne D

Mima-I don't care to be around takers either. There are some in my family. It is not enjoyable being around them. I try to avoid it when possible.I would crown Louie with a pot if he asked them before talking to me first. I don't think that is likely to happen. He avoids them too.
Meme- I worry about your ankle.. And ,I haven't really met you..You do so much for others,Now you need to do for yourself. It would be nice if you all came to Fl. for a weekend. I would take you to the beach and then we would go get in my sons hot tub.. What a good time that would be.
Happy. I can't go outside and read or anything. The humidity is real high and the bugs are biting. They just love me. Bug bites are terrible. I get big welts.
Anagram,Candice, Ally and everybody. I hope you have a Great Weekend.
Bye You all..Joanne

Two of the kittens died and I had to watch them struggle to breathe...I
cried and cried, I had to take the one left to an out of town vet
because ours does not see kittens untill 8 weeks old. They told me they
have never seen a kitten alive so malnourished, it is a girl and she is
6 weeks old but looks like she is 2 weeks old. They are keeping her
this weekend and if she is alive by Monday I can bring her home, but
they said not to get our hopes up. She is really cute and her eyes just
steal your heart! It has taken alot out of me this week caring for
them............but I did not want to leave them out there to die on
their own if I could save them so had to try. I wish I had become a
vet!

Good morning-Open House today. No phone calls from ad so we will see how this goes. Let's see , plan B is I sold my house.com and plan c is a realtor. It's in God's hands. Moved more stuff from mother's house yesterday-Brad-not me. Also big old cunky steel desk out of den/bedroom/computer room. I think I would like a tall cabinet so I could hide all the junk in here. I think this would be about 4 pts for the sauce with 2 oz of meat apiece and FF sour cream and then count your pasta..whole wheat is only 2pts a cup, regular is 4 I think.

Weeknight Pasta

Few foods are as versatile or satisfying as pasta, and when it comes to weeknight meals, nothing cooks up quicker. We have a simple and delicious recipe that’s sure to tickle your taste buds and goes from stovetop to tabletop in 30 minutes or less.

You will need:

Dry pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pinch fresh, minced garlic
4 chicken breasts, cut into 1” pieces
1 16 oz. bag frozen vegetables
8 ounces sour cream
1 can creamed soup such as Cream of Chicken
freshly grated parmesan cheese
Begin by heating the olive oil in a wok or large sauté pan over medium heat. A pinch or so of fresh, minced garlic is a tasty addition, but resist the urge to add more, as it will overpower the subtle flavors of the vegetables. Sauté the garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds or so. Next, add the chicken and cook until golden brown. Since the chicken will continue to cook alongside the vegetables, it is O.K. at this point, if the center is still a bit pink.

Once the chicken is nice and brown, lower the temperature and add in the vegetables. Next, add the sour cream and then the creamed soup. Mix and cover before leaving it to simmer for a few minutes.

If you find the mixture is too thick, you can thin it out by adding a bit of chicken broth or white wine until you get the consistency you like. Also, if you’re looking to cut calories, the low fat sour cream works just fine.

While the chicken mixture is simmering, make sure you get your pasta ready. When the pasta has cooked, add a dollop of your chicken mixture and grate the cheese on top. Season with salt and cracked pepper.

Good morning. All the kids showed up for Father's Day-had spaghetti-yum-and Suzanne made a deliscious cake. Only 4 people came to the open house so I posted it on www.isoldmyhouse.com #67730 if you want to see it. Now I need to let go of the outcome. Going over to Brad's mother's to get the last of the stuff which will go to the church's yard sale. Signing on WEd. What I messed up on the crosstitch was the lettering for the bride and groom's name and date. It is freehand, unlike everything else that is stamped, and it came out crooked and then crooked again. Then the thread was a different color so I had to do the whole thing over but it's done and it looks good. Not perfect-good. I just ahve to iron it and put it in the frame. I custom ordered a mat that is a nice color. Maybe I can put a pic on. Mima

Hi,
I have been taking Remeron for almost a month now for fibromylagia. It's turned me into a zombie, even at half the dosage my doc initially prescribed. Being able to sleep at night is nice, but I feel like I'm dead. I've also gained 6 pounds since last Thursday. I log EVERYTHING I eat in fitday, and even with 1 major bad food day, I should have been at maintenance calories for the week, not a 6 pound gain.

If anyone else takes or has taken this drug, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your experiences. I'm going to dump the stuff pretty soon if things don't get better. I feel like it's plunging me into major depression, when that wasn't my problem to start with.

Thanks in advance,
Mel

Mima
06-22-2004, 07:14 AM
I have a friend who takes that for sleep apnea but she doesn't take the whole dose. I take 50mg of Desyrel and that helps. You need a low dose anti-depressant. Not sure if Remeron is but I think she takes half. Don't worry about taking an anti-depressant because it's such a low dose but you need to go into a deep sleep for fibro. I hate thinks that make me feel like a zombie. I hurt like crazy today because I helped pack Mother's house last night. That's it or me. Mima

Mel

Oh, I'm not worried about the anti-depressant part. Over the last 20 years I've been on trazadone, ambien, wellbutrin, paxil, and serzone. I've also taken flexeril and clonopin. The only ones that didn't have really alarming side effects for me were trazadone ( I guess the 40 pound weight gain was alarming) but I was up to a horse's dose when my doc decided it was too much, and serzone. Serzone has just been taken off the market due to liver problems, and I'm back into searching for a drug that lets me get some sleep but doesn't cause so many side effects that I can't take it.

Thanks for your help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I take 10mg of Doxepin each night and that is enough to get me into a sound sleep. He had me on 25 mg and I couldn't wake up most of the day either. I hate fatigue, even more than the pain. This is one of the "old" anti-depressants,. Hope you find something that works for you. We don't want the pain and we sure don't want the weight gain either. It seems like FM is a real "catch 22".

Hi Mima - Hope some of the pain goes away for you as the day goes on. It never fails, though, whenever we do something, ANYTHING, we end up hurting.

Hey Girls - I got out and did some digging and planting. About 2 hours worth. No walking today. I will probably pay the piper tomorrow.I'll probably walk bent over for part of the day. :p
If tylenol pm doesn't do it I try sleepy time tea extra. If that doesn't work I read. I have been a nurse too many years to take anything else. One of My Drs. tried to get me to take something a few years ago. I couldn't wake up and was a zombie for most of the morning. I told him what he could do with his pills after I looked it up. You know that side effects sometimes take years to show the damage of meds .It is too late then. I always look up and find out about a medication before I take it or my hubby takes it.I feel I am in charge of my body.
Fathers Day was a good time, but, I am glad it is over. Next come the family birthdays. I have about a month before that starts.
I have a floater in my left eye. I have been seeing it all day. What a pain.It looks like a crooked string.

The kitten didn't make it the vet said her kidneys shut down,we tried but I guess it just was not ment to be this time.

Been keeping tack with my pedometer and trying to aim for 5000 steps minimum. I'm at 8000 right now for the day. Sometimes if I need more and have the energy I walk in front of the tv and do things from some of my old tapes.

Meds sssssssssssss uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu cccccccc kkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Sorry about the kitty, Candice.

I agree on the meds. Had to add another and have been adjusting to the side effects which were pretty strong at first. Am doing better now and also think it helps. I'm on Plavix now because an MRI showed nonspecific white matter changes (hardening of the small arteries of the brain according to my dr.). No more of the little headachy things (different from other headaches I've had). Joanne, concerned about you mentioning headache (somewhere else, I think). I thought too that mine were partly arthritis or else stress, etc. Also thought some of the other symptoms were stress (and some still may be). But now no headachy things and less confusion, etc.

Anyway, weather good today and I'm off to the pool. Tomorrow I start giving dh two shots a day in his belly so he can go off his coumadin for a colonoscopy next week. One little pleasure after another. But he's so good about it all, I don't think I can complain. Saw his dr. this week and she told him he can have a snickers bar once a week and also french fries once a week as long as he doesn't supersize and doesn't have both on the same day. (We'll see what happens on next bloodowrk.) Also cut his Procrit shots back to every other week. Needless to say he was a happy camper or would have been if he didn't have this other thing looming.

Hope you're all enjoying SUMMER.

Hi girls.

Candice, sorry about the kitten, but you did your best. I guess it wasn't meant to be. 8000 Steps - WOW!!!! I guess somedays I would do that but not too many. I need to get moving!!!! I just wish my feet didn't hurt so much and my hip. Gosh, it makes it hard to walk, and then my lower back makes it hard to do water aerobics. What to do, what to do!!!

Anagram - Glad you got some kind of med that is helping you. That is a serious condition, so hopefully the meds can hold it at bay. I hope your hubby continues to get better as well.

Joanne - good for you working out in the garden. Didn't your neck hurt afterwards? I always found that treacherous on the lower back. Can't seem to hold any postion for longer than a couple of minutes, then it spasams and locks.

Meme - I guess you are just plain busy. Hope your singing is going well for you.

Hi Ally, in case you check in. Hope you are enjoying summer and walking lots, you and your pooch.

Mima - Hope you are feeling better today as well.

I got one of those pedometers from McDonald's and it didn't work. I'll have to break down and pay for one. The prayer group came here last night and all was spiffy clean-don't have to do that again til the cookout in July and then there will be too many people to notice. I am still hurting but my physical stuff is over so I can recover-can't wait to go on vacation next week. I have to go and show condo this am but then I am going to get a pedicure and manicure. Sat night is a wedding and Sun is the church picnic-have to bake-but then we go away on Mon. WHEW! Those kids are about to sing me to death!!! I start at 6:20 and don't even get a break until assembly to close at 20 'till 8 and even then they want to do the theme song again! And every song except 2 are done with exercise moves ... aerobics! I've lost 2 pounds this week already! I'm pooped! I don't know if I'm going to have a voice left for the conference Saturday.

Meds... They're hardly ever exactly what you want them to be. just when you find a good one they either take it off the market or they change it in some way. I was taking Solgonal ... gold shots ... and doing pretty good, then they stopped making it. I don't sleep well at night, either. I take Darvocet if I'm not too bad and Tylenol PMs when I'm bad. I've been on everything else there is and have side effects ranging from hangover to hallucinations. I can't get up and can't function after taking that stuff.

I love anything made with lemon-I am finally getting a new-almost new-washer dryer/ It's in the yard and it came from Brad's mother's-a stack system-the ones I have now are perfectly good but no choices of water level or temp. so I have been complaining for 2 years. I could have gone out and bought them but I'm too frugal. Brad wants to save the others for FL but I won't be happy with them there either. Went to see his 87 year old uncle in the nursing home last night. What a nice man. He has cancer and severe osteoporosis and only has 3-6 months. Wedding tonight and picnic tomorrow. Meme- I take a Darvocet at night too. It ,along with tylenol 2 helps me sleep. Someone told me I was going to get hooked on them. I think at 71 years old that it is going to take a lot more than that.
Hello everybody,I hope y`ou are having a good weekend..Joanne

WHEW! Just TOO much going on!!!

The Conference was WONDERFUL! Oh I just wish every one of you could have gone with me! The speaker was sooooo good. She was so funny. The theme was The Committed Woman in an Uncommitted World. In the afternoon session she did a 'skit' and she used a bunch of different hats. I laughed 'till I nearly cried. She had a chef's hat, a helmet for a Mom's hat, a rag for a cleaning hat, and bunny ears and a 'boa' for a wife's hat. She was hilarious. In the skit, she used each one several times as she went through all the different 'hats' a woman wears in a day ... it was funny but oh so true. And at the end of each one where she had on the bunny ears and boa she always said, "Oh, not now dear, please!" Sound familiar? They had so much food at lunch. My daughter went and took my little five year old granddaughter. We didn't know how she would do for that long but she did great. There were only 3 little girls there. At lunch we turned our back for just a second at the dessert table and, well ... Jenna LOVES strawberries ... and lets just say she sort-of ruined some nice ladies dessert! :o Before we could stop her she had picked up a big spoon and scooped a very large amount of strawberries off the top of a beautiful creamcheese concoction and deposted them in her plate. After the Conference, they gave me a huge basket from Bath and Body Works full of lotions and Shower Gel, etc. for singing (I hope they weren't just trying to tell me something!!!) ;)

Then, we had a picnic we had to go to at 5 yesterday afternoon. Then today we had church and then had the family (ten) over for hubby's mom and daughter's BD dinners then had to rush back to church for the Bible School program. The kids were so cute tonight. They had on their VBS T Shirts and they were so thrilled to get up and sing the songs I taught them for their parents. There were so many flash bulbs going off and movie cameras! I'm POOPED!!!!!!! I'm ready to collapse! Hubby said one man came up to him and told him he didn't know I had 'those kinds of moves' in me! He said I had 'surprised' him. He said didn't she surprise you. Hubby told him, 'Naw, I've seen her in action before'! ;) He's a mess! One of our Trustees told me he thought he must have come to the wrong place tonight. I said why and he said because he thought for a few minutes there that I was going to start dancing! I said, well, you just never know what I'm going to do, do you. :dizzy: If they only knew how bad my muscles were aching! :p

Meme - if you weren't in good shape before, you will be now  Glad you had a good time and maybe now you can relax a bit, before the next onslaught. I would love to have seen that skit. It must have been hilarious.

Joanne - like Mima says. HOOKED, so what!!! I doubt that will happen. The past 3 weeks, I have been taking 2 tylenol 3 before bed, along with Doxepin and I have been sleeping so well. I wish I didn't have to take them, but I wouldn't be sleeping much with this darn hip thing going on. I just wish your neck would get better.

Mima - Glad you had a good time at the wedding. They say summer is the best time to diet, but summer is full of good food:lol Parties etc. Oh, life goes on.

Candice - you have to stop that sleep eating!!!! That is a LOT of work you did, so no wonder you are hurting.

Hi, Anagram - hope things are going better for you and your hubby.

Hi Ally in case you check in.

Still no rain! We watch to weather channel and yell at it!
Happy- It seems that the older we get the more we find to make life harder. But I do have my good days. I suppose things could be worse,so I should be grateful.
Mima--You must be on your camping trip.. Hope you are having fun..
Meme..You have a lot more energy than you know.. It is amazing what we can do when the time is ripe..
My brother and his wife have been in Germany for 6 weeks visiting her family.. They will be stopping here on their way to Az. tomorrow for a few days. I guess that will be the end of company for me for awhile.. I think I am going to excape and go to my daughters soon after. I need to get away.
My son has met a new women/girl and I think maybe God has finally sent him the right one. From all the signs things at last are working out for him. He has been single almost 20 years.Just a bit of happy news I wanted to pass on.
Hello everybody..
Bye...I might be MIA for a few days..Busy...Joanne

You have a place on your User CP where it says Show Thumbnails or Hide Thumbnails ... which do you have selected? And, too, it may just be that your picture is too large to show so they had to put it in thumbnail size. She's adorable!!!

I'm going to go start a new thread so ...

DON'T POST HERE!
