UK support groups?
Hi all,
I am in a bit of a funk. I'm struggling to feel motivated, and spending a lot of time comfort eating. I am thinking about joining a weight loss support group, where I can get some support and contact with people. I'm wondering what support groups are out there, and how to go about finding them, and I though it was worth creating a thread as a resource that others can call upon.
So here are the groups I'm aware of so far:
Slimming World - I attended slimming world in the past, I liked that I didn't have to count or weigh anything, and that we were allowed a certain number of syns, that could be used for treats. I didn't like how heavily they relied on fake foods (e.g. fat free yoghurt and sweeteners), and I got through my syns quite quickly on simple things that didn't feel all that unhealthy (nuts, bread and proper cooking oils instead of synthetic sprays).
Weight watchers - my former housemate did this, and said it wasn't as strict as you might think, however I'm a little put off by the need to count points all the time, so see it as a quick fix diet, that I'd probably stop when I reached my ideal weight, and then put all weight back on.
Scottish Slimmers - as the name suggests, this is a Scottish group. It sounds similar to weight watchers in most respects. The people I know who have tried it lost a fair amount of weight, and still seemed to work treats in, but I never asked about how it works.
So what other groups are out there? Where do you find them? I'm hoping to focus on groups as opposed to one-on-one (so no personal trainers)!
