Copied from yesterday:
To all you gals out there that have been IP'ing for a whle. I have been very strict in following the program. Tonight while I was at work I noticed that I was no longer in ketosis. Why does that happen? I do not eat anything with sugar in it nor do I stray from the list of approved veges. I have only had a 1-2 lb loss every week. Any suggestions?
How did you "notice" you were no longer in Ketosis? If you are following protocol 100%, you are in Ketosis. Ketostox are highly unreliable.

Take "only" out of your weight loss sentence. I think it is time to figure your % lost weekly and celebrate!

You joined in Nov. You have lost 19 lbs!!!!!

IP is removing the 3-5 lb/weekly average claims from their materials. The only place you'll see that is at clinics that don't stay up-to-date.

Good morning, all!

As the first topic is ketosis, any recommendations for the smell? I have noticed some days are worse than others. I was in meetings yesterday and could not help but wonder, "are they smelling me on this particularly bad day, because I sure am! "

I weigh in today... know I am bloated from stomach issues but not worried because regardless of what the scale says, I can feel the progress this week!

I sure hope y'all have a wonderful day!

My mantra for today is, "it just takes one more step, and one more smile, in the right direction, to do this thing. "

Take great care of yourselves today!

Lotsa water & even more water and your body will adjust to it given time. I don't get the dry mouth anymore. It took a couple of months for things to settle (sleep patterns, hormones, general weirdness)

I found a product that might help with smell. Body Mint. Have not taken any my coach is checking it out for inclusion or not. So, I have no idea if it could help but I bought some to try if she approves it.

good morning ladies

yaebelle good luck on the weigh in

lisa is right, you are in ketosis, the sticks turn a different color based on water intake

i have been weighing myself daily since last wednesday because the scale did not move, after 13 days it moved, from 131.6 to 131. I did introduce strength into my routine, i was doing cardio here and there but strength has always made me go up in weight in the past

going to go back to weighing weekly from thursday

stay op, it works

Morning everyone!!

I've been up since 4am, I fell on the ice Sunday (after hitting the ditch:() and my shoulder is just not happy!! AND my chiro & massage therapist are on holidays....aahhhh. Hope the increase in pain killers is okay, Guess I should check if the gel caps have sugar in them...hmm.

I still get a few things from my coach, but the information from the clinic is quite obviously not the greatest. So, I wanted to get your thoughts here. I have 15lbs (give or take) to go, I have not been exercising at all (which, I am quite happy about:)). But at this point, should I be introducing activity?

I was thinking walking or yoga/pilates at a light pace. But, if the concensus is no, then I am content to spend my evenings in the hot tub as well:). Oh, I guess maybe swimming?

Thoughts? Thanks, have an OP day

Light excercise should be ok, but you should have a packet within 30 minutes of that. It might still affect the losses though.

Scale went down 1 lb today and I am counting -2 lbs for the cast that I have on half of my leg! It may weigh more but I'd rather go conservative than liberal with the lbs. I will make the 10 by Christmas! I'm over half way there! Very happy with me. My DH and I were discussing maintenance this morning (he wanted to know if I am eating like this for the rest of my life. He asked in a positive way, he likes eating more veggies) I explained to him how I will phase off eventually and eat a few more carbs. he said "oh you can eat whatever you want" I told him technically yes but that mentality got me where I am today so I have to look at it differently and need his help with that. HE was so on board it was wonderful! I know, I know, I have a logn way before I get to maintenance but knowing he is there to support me just means the WORLD to me!

Good Morning Everyone! YAY to everyone for the losses and NSV's!

I'm relatively new here and finding the amount of different threads here a little overwhelming. I've really only been looking at the daily thread, alternatives thread, and what you are eating thread.

Are there any good ones out there that I'm missing?

ragdoll you are right fat went down and muscle was higher than the day i started

i am feeling a little lost, need to take pictures so i can see progress, since i am so close to goal

i used to go by my pant size to know i lost, at a size 2 i am now losing in my abs and boobs and i am not the most observant person in the mirror. i hardly ever look at myself in the mirror

so i cannot see if i am losing, i dont care about the number on the scale, but i do want to make sure i am making progress

thanks for your support

maezy congrats on the loss!!!

Iamescaping I too have 16 pounds to go, you must listen to your own body and figure this out. do you build more muscle? how does your body react? how much have you been losing every week without working out?

Can't believe it's December!
Been on Ideal Protein since End of June have lost 70lbs! So blessed to have a highly Successful IP Coach that keeps me inspired and helps be visualize my goal is within reach!
22lbs more to go !
I am so happy that I took her advice and put myself on my to do list!
This was a rough 2012 for our family both husband and I had injuries and illnesses and both were off work husband went from hospital to rehab to a hospital bed in family room with intensive PT,and back to work.
We took the opportunity to take an inventory of our life and made life changes. While going thru all the turmoil we started IP.DH reached his Goal of 30lbs and his medications for his Diabetes were decreased and all his Labs Stable WNL.
I have lost 70 lbs have 22 lbs left to go despite my working night shift.
Now instead of 2 hospital beds in our house there is only one for my mom who lives with us I am her care .
Oh we had our teenage daughter get in her first car accident(major) and they were totaling the car until an Angel from the insurance company intervened on our be have.
DD was also in PT the whole summer for Shoulder injuries related to sports.
I am very grateful this year is almost over and ending on a positive note.
We are blessed to have 3 dogs that have given us the motivation to walk whether we wanted to or not.
Our Golden has completed her advance training and is working toward being a Therapy Dog. Our Airedale puppy is now in Advanced training I am not sure if I will show him or compete in obedience have not quite decided.
We all have challenges in our lives it how we choose to handle them.
Life is about learning to juggle and make adjustments when are plans collide with real life.
I realize I am blessed to have the blessed assurance that all things work for the Glory of God.
I Thankful to have made it thru this year and am grateful for everything that has occurred. I know had not happened I would not have started on IP.
My point is none of us live a charmed life ,we get to make choices that can positively or negatively impact our life...I choose positive.
I am grateful I found this forum I lurked for a long time. I am impressed with the diversity of opinions and the people who are here.
Here's wishing everyone the success they are striving for.

Wow! Your weight loss is amazing. That is such an amazing thing to do -- to stick to a diet when things are tough. I often use a bad spell as an excuse to eat, and it's never good. Congratulations on having a successful year and a positive attitude.

MomPattie: 6.2 pounds??? Seriously? That is amazing!!!

I'm just starting my 2nd week on IP. I like low-carb diets because I have a sugar addiction. Yesterday, I finally felt comfortable with the food allowed; and wasn't hungry most of the day.

I do wonder if I'm in ketosis, though. I don't have that taste in my mouth. I know the splenda packets have a couple of carbs each, so I'll be careful about those. I am down 3 pounds in one week which is amazing for me.

Also, can't believe how wonderful this site is. The recipes alone make me happy!

Here's a question. I had the banana pudding last night. It was a free sample, thank goodness, so I only had the one. Anyway, it tasted quite bad to me -- bitter and chemical. I wondered if others had had the same reaction, or if it was just me. You know how some people have the tastebuds that means that cilantro tastes like soap? Well, maybe I have some weird tastebuds that make whatever is in the banana pudding taste bitter. I'm surprised because I'm actually quite happy with all the other varieties I've tried.

I personally did not like any of the "fruit" flavored IP products. Puddings or drinks, the only one I could tolerate was the Wildberry yogurt drink. But if some people didn't like them I'm sure they'd stop carrying them! I think it's just a matter of tastes :)

Mompattie - A BIG CONGRATS!!!
Roo2- wow,congrats!

Bushtail - if you are losing weight don't give ketosis another thought. I haven't bought a ketostix or worried about it once and I am 3/10ths of a lb from 40 off! Also, from what I hear the ketostix are very inaccurate. I have different symptoms than others so just because you don't have those symptoms dont worry, please
The banana pudding tasted the same way to me, awful! I hear that there are recipes that make it taste better but I'm not going to try them just yet. If I get a craving for bananas then maybe but I doubt it. I can live a long and happy life without bananas!!!!

Hi everyone!!

I had a horribly downhill week and up am 8 lbs. I had my fun, but now I am trying my hardest to get back on the bandwagon.

I ate all the stuff I had been craving, things I thought I really wanted. Then, I got sick to my stomach. Bloating, gas, crazy bathroom trips and just feeling crappy overall. Not to mention I wanted to eat EVERYTHING in sight. It proved to me that this is where I need to be, one way or another. I am going shopping today to stock up on lettuce, veggies, and I am going to portion out meats.

I don't want to be where I was back in August. I like the new, healthier me and want to maintain under 200lbs. I can't give up so I'm going to struggle one day at a time. maybe post in the What Are You Eating thread to hold me accountable.

Wish me luck!

I'm very curious about this too - mainly because that just doesn't seem to be enough protein to be equivalent to the other meats:

1 whole egg: 77 cal, 6g protein
1 egg white: 16 cal, 4g protein

2 whole plus two white: 186 cal, 20g protein

8oz chicken: 248 cal, 54g protein
8oz lean ground beef: 392 cal, 54g protein
8oz white fish: 184 cal, 40g protein
8oz yellowfin tuna: 248 cal, 56g protein

I can really relate. I've had a few pretty bad days in the past few weeks for no good reason at all and it has started to catch up. I suspect I'll have a gain this week, but hopefully I can at least maintain.

You've done SO great and are so close- keep up the good work! The gain stands no chance for next week's WI!

I don't get it either. I wonder why IP has revised the phase I sheet at least twice this year. IP's been around a while, so why do they need to keep changing the protein allowances. Wouldnt they have figured out the correct serving size of eggs by now. The sheet my coach gave me was from 2/7/11, and that one had only 2 whole eggs as a serving.

NOLA, I had the same thing last week. I think that I lost more than 3 lbs but I am being conservative (I have a cast on my leg and I have no idea how much it weighs) I'm starving today again. Maybe the tooth fairy was wrong and there is a woosh fairy!!!

Equally as strange, I also woke up feeling "hyper" this morning. I was running around the house like a squirrel on pure adrenaline. I told my son that I felt like I drank 4 shots of expresso (which, of course, I hadn't!)

Oh, I believe, I DO believe! Please come see us, woosh fairy!

Good Morning, Another rainy day here in Seattle ;)

Maezy: Congratulations on your loss. You are doing so well, especially considering you are in a cast. That is awesome. Just remember every SINGLE POUND makes that cast and crutches easier to handle. Keep up the great work. I am trying for the 10 lb Christmas goal too. I will be cutting it CLOSE! Really HOPING I have one of my bigger loses this week as it has been a while.

roo2: CONGRATULATIONS on all your accomplishments. Such great weight loss in the mist of personal problems. You are a true success!

Mompattie! Wow, 6.2 lbs gone at this point in your weight loss. You are doing GREAT! I still cannot find the frozen rhubarb but really want to try it and just not willing to deal with the fresh ones.

AnnaBoBanna: YOU CAN DO THIS. Getting back on this board is a sign of your commitment. You WILL NOT go above the 200 lb mark. You look so great, just look at your pictures, it gives me inspiration so I am sure it will give you. You are back on the horse now ;)

4Mom: I had lots of intermittent stomach pains from about week 2 to 6 I believe. I have not had them for a while. It may be certain packets, but I didn't watch out for which ones. I am going to take a closer look if this happens again, but it has not in the last 3 to 4 weeks. So, I don't know if it is common, but wanted to let you know it did happen to me.

Both our dog and I had loud gurgle tummy's last night. For me I hope its the sign of the woosh fairy working. For her? I'd better give her a cup of pumpkin puree with her dinner tonight! I wish I had her figure. She's a Great Dane and we have to fight to keep weight on her!

Does anyone have the latest Phase I sheet they can post? The one I have is dated June 12, 2012, but I just found out that the qty of eggs has changed on the newest sheet. Eggs are now 2 whole eggs, plus 2 egg whites.

I'm curious to see if there are any other changes.

Updated 8/20/12 : What is meant is they can have UP TO 4 whole eggs and 2 whites IF THEY WISH. Look, they can have up 8 oz of meat, but if they only want 6 oz, that's their choice. 1 whole extra large egg (56 g) has 70 cal, 7g Protein, 0 carbs and 4.5g fat.
Hope this helps

I gotcha - so rather than hammer in the 8oz of protein at dinner, they are setting it as a "max" amount of protein for the meal, but leaving it up to the dieter if they want to have a bit less? Did they change it to a minimum-maximum amount? Just trying to understand :)

Wuv- question for you....so my losses have slowed to about half the rate they were the first 14 weeks. I measure everything(unless eating out which is rare) and have been eating the full 8oz of protein with dinner.

Do you think cutting down to 6oz might get me back to 2-3 lbs a week? I have been following the plan very strictly, and I still have 29 lbs to go.

Correcrt, this is what I am gathering from what was told to me in that response.

I have ALWAYS eaten 8oz of meat, in my honest opinion the more protein the better to keep your muscles right. I wouldn't cut back my protein, but you could experiement with it for a week or 2 and see how it goes for you. You will lose slower when you get closer to your goal. I am only losing like .5 a week now sometimes less, I just go with it and let my body release it whenever its ready. I don't over think anything, I just kinda go with it

If you are on Ideal Protein you just need to start fresh and move on - not much you can do to mitigate the damage other than getting back on the horse :)

Once you've been a forum member for 20 days and you've made at least 20 posts, you can add a weight tracker to your signature. When you go to "User CP" (first on the left in the top horizontal menu bar) you will see an option to "edit signature" once you're eligible :)

I found that changing up my routine of eating has worked for me. I start the day with a bar at 7 am, an IP drink about 10-10:30 am, lunch at 1 with 8 ounces of meat. Required veggies at 330-4 pm, leafy salad and rest of required veggies at 7:30ish and then my last IP drink between 9-10 pm and then bed at 10 pm.

I have been losing every week since I started and I just finished week 14. I weigh in tomorrow, think I will have my first stall as I am just coming off of 10 days of prednisone.

I would love to have an eating schedule that would have coffee at 5:30a, my 8oz protein and 2C veggies at 8a, my snack at 11:30a, my lunch IP and veggies 1:30p, breakfast IP at 6p and no evening snack but both my coach and the coach in the next cubical say NO. They say that's too much time between meals and protein hits. I say I hate going to bed stuffed. (they have approved my dinner at noon and breakfast at dinner but I still go to bed stuffed. Maybe i should just try it out....)

On conventional diets that might be true - IP is totally different because in Ketosis your body is using your fat stores for energy to make up for the calorie deficit. Your engines are constantly running. When you eat is much less important than what you eat. You may want to give it a try, especially if that much food late in the day is uncomfortable for you. Remember in Phase 3 that's pretty much how you'll be eating anyway - Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper.

Awesome, Maezy. Congrats on your weigh-in and making your goal. Also, congrats on having a supportive husband. Mine is, too, and I'm so grateful.

I don't have that ugly taste in my mouth either! Never have had it, but man for fuzzy teeth!!! LOL!

Whoo Hoo! Husband support is so important! You are a very lucky gal. :)

Nice WI!!!!! What in the world is a kobo? :?:

I added this to one of the recipe threads (possibly the wrong one! please forgive me Rainbow!) but thought I'd link it here, too. This is a delicious cauliflower curry soup recipe. I made it without the potato (just let it simmer longer to thicken up a bit more). I took it to a party and it was a total hit. Hope you all enjoy! http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/13/health/nutrition/curried-cauliflower-soup-recipes-for-health.html?_r=0

Good day everyone!

I had WI today - another 1.5lbs lost. I have had a busy day and am now home with my sick DS. I was horrified when he told me he thought he had food poisoning (I was cooking again) but then my DH and I did not get ill so I think it might not be my fault. It turns out that his friend at school had the stomach flu before the weekend so it probably came from school. I'm so paranoid with all the meat we cook now but I am getting more comfortable, well until someone takes ill and then I assume it is my fault. LOL Someday I may be a confident cook.

I fell off the wagon on the weekend... and while at the time it was fun, it is TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT. I put 4 lbs on and my head has been KILLING me for 2 days now. At least now I know, and there is no way I'm going to indulge over Christmas.

I am back in the saddle, and I am in control. I hauled out the Wii Fit to track my weight and do some light exercising, just to get the blood flowing, and I've almost got the extra pounds off. I can do this!

Have a great evening everyone!

I hope this is the right place to ask this question: I am new to IP - today is day 49 for me. I have lost 35 lbs and have been doing just fine until yesterday when suddenly I was unbelievably hungry. Today I feel the same way. This might sound silly but my stomach is growling and I really feel like I need to eat something.

Up until yesterday I really have not been hungry on IP at all except once when I got stuck and went 7 hours between lunch and dinner. I haven't changed what I am eating and wonder why this is happening and if I should eat something extra like another packet. Thank you for any advice.

WI results last night : 6.2 loss! Woot woot!! Still sick in bed though, no appetite! I made stewed rhubarb with porridge packet on top at least that felt like comfort food!! DH taking over the house which is awesome and amazing!! Does anyone know the name of Dr Tran's book so I can download into my kobo?
What??? 6.2 lbs AND you are sick???
I'm not wishing sick on you or anyone... It's not worth it.
Congrats on the scale and GET WELL!!

I hardly eat ANY packet mix without doctoring. I like banana muffins and banana pancakes made from the banana pudding or banana/chocolate ice cream (banana and dark chocolate puddings frozen into 2 separate single-serve containers) Not a fan of it by itself.

On another note, I didn't like the butterscotch pudding at first and now I like it. Tastes definitely change.

Hot herbal tea & a big lettuce salad. I got hungry about 5 weeks in for a few days. Whenever I have a ravenous day or 2, I throw my entire dinner on a huge bed of romaine lettuce and drink warm liquids all day (lemon, lime, or fresh ginger in you hot water work well, too)

You might want to read about leptin and ghrelin. These are hormones that affect hunger.

35 lbs in 49 days? Wow you are losing fast! Your body is probably sending you some signals it wants you to stop (making you hungry). Those are strong hunger hormones to fight.

Good to know! my coach agrees with what you're saying. I've been having the same kind of days -- Eggs in the morning, salad with soup or drink for lunch, veggies for dinner, and then jello/drink for late snack. I'm glad that it's training me well for future phases!

Ok so today was WI for me and it wasn't fun. Seems like TOM (last week) is still messing with my WI. Ugggggggg. Now I have to keep a journal all week till my next WI to see what I am doing wrong if anything. I am so frustrated !! Oh and I have to stay away from weighing in everyday.. He seems to think that's stressing me out too much.
