Question how many carbs are people eating a day?

The title says it all really. I seem to have already hit a plateau, I'm really struggling to hit the 210's and its getting me down, after looking at my food diary over the past few weeks I'm putting it down to eating a few to many carbs, as my calorie level is fine, my fat/protein/salt levels are fine and I'm exercising.

So I was wondering how many carbs people eat a day, whether its 1 portion, 2 etc, what kind of carbs?

Thank you x

I eat about 80 grams of carbs per day (gross). The way my diet defines servings, it's about 4-5 servings. I generally eat 1 low-carb tortilla and the rest come from vegetables, berries, nuts, oatmeal, avocado, and beans.

I generally stay below 100. I'm italian, I can't help it, lol... although, most of my carbs are coming from veggies. I eat mostly veggies now, and since my veggies are so widely varied, it's hard for me to stay below that 100 goal. I've done it every day the past week though, and I lost 3lbs since last tuesday, thus (hopefully!) breaking my plateau! (and I had homemade veggie lasagna last night, lol.. )

I stay below 50g total but I don't shoot myself if I get to 70. Some people on low-carb stay below 20 net, but I found that too restrictive to shoot for every day (I will still have an extreme low-carb day here and there). 50 is enough to allow me a piece of fruit (20g), lots of veg (20g), and dairy (most of the other 10). If I want a sandwich one day, I skip the fruit. Some days I have berries instead of an apple, for instance, and berries are lower-carb. I never really liked rice or pasta so that wasn't an issue to cut out entirely.

I don't count carbs by i try to cut out what I can, one easey way is getting light bread instead of regular, you can have 2 slices and it is equal to one slice of regular bread.

Hi erhr,
You are doing extremly well. I am on 17day diet. Exercise 5 days a week .
Lost 11-12lbs in abt 40 days. Slow ly but surely inching towards my goal.
Any idea when the visceral fat starts going away?

puneri - Thanks! I am following The Belly Fat Cure. I have seen a drastic reduction in visceral fat - I've lost a few inches off my waist just in the last 3 months, and more before I started measuring. I think I noticed a difference in my waist visually after I'd lost about 15 lbs. You are doing great - keep up the good work!

Usually around 100-160g of carbs a day, mostly complex but I do have a sweet tooth...

I try to keep it around 100. Mostly because higher carb counts end up making me hungrier, and I seem to drop weight much more quickly when I keep the carbs low.

puneri - It's a diet book by Jorge Cruise. We have a thread going under Carb Counters/Other Reduced Carb Diets.

I dont do "low carb" I jsut do lower carb. I shoot for about 45% of my cals coming from carbs. Typically this means 100-150 carbs a day, most days I am about as low as 50-100 carbs a day.

As silly as it sounds, i dont limit my carbs to a specific number BECAUSE when i do that the pounds fall off.. the method to this madness is i am waiting until i really, really hit a plateau and then go and do the super low carb for a few weeks to get out of it, because as we all know plateaus are part of the game and a quick low- carb plan is the trick i have up my sleeve lol .

I keep it between 50-100. I like Mark's nifty carbohydrate curve:

I don't eat bread or grains but tons of fruits and vegg and find it easy to stay under 100 if I stick to whole foods.
