Good morning gals. Well, we had the ac guy come back out again yesterday because the compressor wouldn't come on and he changed out the capacitor and left but the house didn't cool off and it would stop. Well, Jack and I but the bullet and turned it off and left if off all night even though the temp was near 90 in the house. This morning it is about 85 out but we turned it on and it is working fine. It has a shutoff to keep it from burning up and the house was so hot yesterday because the ac didn't work all weekend that it just couldn't keep up and shut down. I am going to keep an eye on it and see how it doesn today, but I can already tell the difference this morning in the house.

Jack's plant all were complaining of the heat so they put them on 6-2 shift, which made Jack mad. He hates the early morning's anyway and having to get up at 4 now doesn't make it any better. He now has to go to bed around 8 to get 8 hours of sleep and how ridiculous is that! On top of that, we think he stress fractured his foot at work yesterday but since it is oji, they send them to a minor medical place. This dr told Jack with his knee they are given instructions to fix it and send them back to work, no time off, which wasn't the problem, but she didn't even haved it xrayed saying he couldn't have stress fractured it. How does she know without an xray? She put him in a boot and sent him back to work with advil!!! Told him to come back in a week if it still hurts and she will have it xrayed. He told her he can't wear the boot at work as he has to wear safety shoes but she was basically like, "not my problem." Royally oinked me off. He is in pain and limping this morning and says it hurts to put weight on it. We can't even take him to the ER or to the dr because if Tricare finds out about the oji they won't pay for anything we have done.

Gail: God will give you an extra crown in glory for you dilligence with your father and father in law. Truth be told, when the spouse goes the left partner usually gives up if they are elderly. I am sorry you can't make any headway with your dad, but the other one is certainly a character. Like you said, at least he has a positive attitude so he can dance again. Did you find any yarn??? I bought some great felting yarn in two colors a sold and a striped and am going to make duffer slippers for gifts. They are so cute and you can make them look like little ballet flats with embellishments and whatnot. I just have to adjust the sizes that are offered as the lady is German and uses metric sizes and European foot sizes. They must have smaller feet than we women here in the states!

Maggie: I feel for the kid, for sure, but like you, nothing is safe anymore and he should have kept his bike in the house. Jack had a beautiful brand new 10 speed stolen right off our porch and it was padlocked to the porch years ago when Jay was little. He bought it to ride to work at the base and it only lasted about a week. That hurt the pocketbook big time back then. My hair has thinned a lot too from meds and such and coloring it red hides the thinness. I have always has super fine hair anyway and as I got older thinned out a lot. It isn't perfect but except for a wig it is the best I have!

Jean: We are supposed to get to 96 today and 98 on Thur and Fri. The only thing good about that is warming up the pools. Used to be you went into a department store and were measured for bras, now you grab one off the rack and hope it fits, which it rarely does. Jack was looking on Google Earth at the Missouri and a good part of the interstate is parallel to the river so it is likely they will end up having to close it. I just hope it doesn't swell up the MS again as we are finally below flood stage.

Susan: Sounds like you had a lovely relaxing time. The problem with a new ac unit is $$$$$ You have to have them to replace it and we just don't and comfort or not, I am not taking on another bill by financing it. I am working very hard to get our finances in order for retirement, ie paying off everything I can and will suck it up over thousands of dollars of financing. I imagine in the next couple years we will have the money to let Jimmy replace our unit and we just have to keep our fingers crossed it will hold out I guess. I am a long way from clothing being too big, but I hope by the end of the year to fit into stuff I wore 6-7 years ago and if I am really lucky maybe the stuff I originally bought for the cruise a few years ago will fit me for next year, but not until the last minute I imagine. I have some really cute stuff, but if it doesn't fit then it will.

I gotta go gals and get some upstairs work done before it gets too hot. Have a lovely day and try and keep cool. We are having a country wide hot spell it looks like Faye

Donna Faye, my crown in Heaven will surely be tarnished because I have not always been the best daughter no matter how hard I've tried. I lose patience (my brother is so much better with Dad) and get frustrated and then I'll snap at my Dad and end up apologizing for how I said something. Sometimes I think Dad wants me to snap at him because I remind him of Mom then. Whenever I visit (and I do try to get to VA at least once a month and I do try to go more often than that but with gas prices, Wayne's work situation and worrying about him I know I don't get down there to see Dad as much as I should) Dad wants me to sit with him. If I get up he wants to know where I'm going (to the bathroom) and if I go outside or run an errand he wants to know when I'll be back and if I'm not back at the appointed time he will phone me on my cell. After 24 hours, I'm ready to go back to Delaware...so my crown will surely be tarnished. I pray for guidance, patience, and wisdom each night before I go to bed. ......You know what? I didn't have the heart (my good sense kicked in) to buy any new yarn yesterday. I didn't even go near the yarn shop!

Susan, yes my Dad is depressed. I know first hand. I, too, have been on medication for depression. I don't take anything now. I still get anxiety and panic attacks but a therapist I've seen in the past has taught me ways to relieve the attacks so I don't take any medication for those either. Wayne knows how to "talk" me out of an attack. I believe depression runs in my family. My Mom suffered from depression (but did not take medication). Both of my daughters take medication now for depression and the oldest also takes medication for anxiety attacks.

Maggie, I deleted my post from the end of the last thread because when I re-read it, it just made me so upset...but I will say this about suggesting Dad volunteering. Volunteer work is so far out of Dad's world of thinking I think he would be confused by the shear thought of it. (And Dad was a volunteer fireman when he was younger.) My Dad's day consists of waking up (from sleeping on the sofa all night long), changing into his day clothes, eating a small bowl of corn flakes, LOOK at the newspaper (forget reading it), watching tv, watching more tv, falling asleep, eating a HALF sandwich for lunch, going to the bathroom, watching tv, napping, more tv, my brother bringing over a hot dinner he may or may not eat, looking out the window, watching tv, going to the bathroom, then going to bed (the sofa) to sleep for the night. Throughout the day, my brother is over there at least a minimum of six times a day. If there is a bad thunder storm he will sit with Dad and watch tv with him. My ex-sister-in-law comes over every Saturday morning to clean the house and do his laundry (and yes my brother and his ex get along). Family members check on him but I think he depressed the heck out of them. They get frustrated/annoyed/angry with him. My aunt (his sister) has tried to talk him into going to see another specialist (for Parkinson's) in Richmond. She would set it up the appointment and take him. He refuses. My uncle (his brother) has him over for dinner once a week but if anyone he does not know is invited he will not go....of if it's cloudy outside he won't go then either. I've tried to get him to come to Delaware for a visit at the very least. He refuses. I tell him I have a nice recliner and a remote control. He refuses. You know his excuse? He takes too long in the bathroom. I tell him I have three bathrooms and he can take as long as he wants. When Wayne drove down at Christmas to pick up his Dad to bring him back to Delaware for the holiday he tried to talk my Dad into coming also. He refused. I've tried everything I know. By the end of my visits with Dad it is a relief to drive home to Delaware. I am blessed to have the brother I have...and you know my brother has not always been the best brother or son for that matter...but since he's stopped drinking (he's now a recovering alcoholic) he's been wonderful.

Jean, I want to say hello...and good morning...but I'm worn out from typing about my Dad...but you have been so kind in your support to me about my Dad and my father-in-law....

...and oh yeah...update abut my father-in-law. He saw the surgeon that did the work on his leg, yesterday. The doctor wants him off his leg for another 4 weeks. Marvin is choosing to stay in the rehabilitation/transitional hospital he is in now until he is officially released. He's in good spirits. But I think he needs a break from the food in the hospital. I'm going to suggest to Wayne that we take him a pizza (he loves this) on Saturday night and we eat with him. And my oldest daughter is going also and that will be a surprise to him (and to my Dad as well as she will see him also).

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining, NO wind, and it's a cool 51 degrees in my corner of the world. We are taking our senior pastor and his wife out for lunch today. The church is having a farewell dinner the 19th, but we will be in MN so will miss it. Other than that it's just sorting through the never ending pile on the kitchen island, :rollpin: and a couple loads of laundry.

"Gma" -- Thank you for starting the new thread today. :cheer: I hope your air conditioner continues to "work" enough to keep you comfortable. I was sorry to read about Jack's foot; I can't imagine why they wouldn't take an x-ray to prevent more damage if nothing else. I know when your foot hurts you hurt all over! :stars: You will enjoy wearing your new cruise clothes and be right in style by the time you are ready to leave.

Gail -- I had to chuckle about your crown being a bit tarnished! Bob would get upset with his mom because she would either twist the facts around or play innocent when confronted about a family matter. He'd pin her down on the facts until she would admit she didn't know for sure. She spent her last year living in an assisted living facility (her choice) here in town. We've never lived in the same town with either set of parents so it was an adjustment. He's one of four children but the oldest and only one living in IA while I was an "only." How did the interview go for Wayne? Are you knitting lots of dish cloths? ;)

I need to get dressed and get busy. Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! :D

Good afternoon, ladies! It's 92 degrees, but not humid.

It's 81 in my house and I can live with that. The AC man came. I thank God for not letting my house burn down. There is a second breaker box outside the house for the AC (it goes through 2 since it is also on the breaker inside. That box is what blew up and it melted all the wires! Anyway, I'm getting an electrician to replace that and then they will replace the AC and heat so that will be done. I cancelled my trip to PA and the other 2 retreats I had scheduled for this year. Getting this stuff taken care of is more important. It's going to be $5,500 for both. I also thank God we have this honest AC/Heat business in Yorktown that does a good job and doesn't rip you off. They have done work for us in the past.

I did my water Zumba and water aerobics this morning at the Y. The water sure felt good.

Faye, you'll be needing those smaller clothes before you know it. Poor Jack has had so many knee problems and now his foot! I'd be going back to that doc every day until she x-rayed it.

Gail, I am with Fay - you are a good daughter and daughter-in-law and will have extra stars in your crown. And not buying yarn yesterday makes you a saint.

Jean, I wish we had a bra fitter around here. Sometimes Macy's or one of the other department stores has one in for a day or 2 and you have to make appoints, but it only once a year. I'm sure the young girls would sell us wonder bras or some such.

Hi, Maggie!

Have a great day!

Jean

Susan -- I'm also thankful you didn't burn your house down! I sometimes think repair businesses take advantage of women who live alone, but it sounds like you have an honest one working for you. It's good to get everything fixed asap, but I'm so sorry you have to cancel your quilting trips to do so. Congrats on doing your :swim: exercise today! I sure don't need a wonder bra as I have more than enough "wonder" as it is! :lol3: It is thundering and the rain has begun so I'm shutting down the computer for the night.

See you all tomorrow!

Good morning ladies. It only got to around 78 and is supposed to be about 96 today. Unfortunately, the compressor on our ac turns off when the heat is excessive due to it continually running so then the house heats back up. It is something for the time being we will have to live with as the only solution is replacing the unit with a bigger one and we found out yesterday because it is tied in together they would have to replace the whole ac and furnace unit and it would cost us about 7-8 thousand dollars so we just deal with it and cool the house down when the temperature is not so high then turn it off when the compressor turns off. Our heat index will be around 103 today, ugh!

My plans for today include a haircut and nail job and getting a couple grocery items then back home until it is time to pick up Jack.

My son called yesterday afternoon to tell me my oldest sister's son's ex-wife though they were on and off again all the time was dead. They are still investigating but according to Jay she killed herself by driving 90 mph into a tree. She has had long time mental problems and over the last few months has attempted it a couple times so though they are grieving, I doubt they are surprised. I saw a picture of the van at the tv station website and the whole front back to the backseat is gone. It is a pretty horrific picture. Please send up prayers for my nephew. He is going to have a rough time of this for sure.

Susan: We had something similar except we weren't home. We were on vacation and had left our cat at the house with Kelly going to peek in on him from time to time. The ac quit working and come to find out, something upstairs on the furnace burned out and we are lucky it didn't burn the house down frankly. Glad you found someone reliable to replace and fix it up.

Gail: Anyone can get frustrated, angry and such with someone with depression issues because they are hard to deal with and nothing interests them so your crown is not tarnished. A lot of folks would stick someone like your dad in a nursing home and forget about him as it is easier. You have loved and cared for him even through the most frustrating times. You cannot do much with someone who is mentally sharp enough to make his own decisions and refuses help. I am sure your FIL had a good time with his pizza My prayers are with you as I know it takes a huge amount of strength to juggle what you are.

Jean: I am so irritated at that dr I can't stand it. He came yesterday afternoon having worn safety shoes all day that have steel toes and hard thick soles with his foot killing him. He put on his boot as soon as he got home and took his crappy medication they gave him but is going to have to put up with this until Monday afternoon when he sees her again. I told him even if it feels better, tell her is it killing him so they will xray it to make sure there are no breaks because it will cause him a lot of trouble later. I broke a bone in the exact area he is complaining about about 36 years ago and still have tinges of pain every once in awhile. He says it hurts to put weight on it and to me that signals some of a break.

Well I am going to go and put the dishes away and maybe knit a bit before Jack gets up in just a bit. Boy, I thought taking him to work at 6 was tough! Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! It's a cloudy breezy morning in my neighborhood. The weatherman says it will get up to 90 today, but it sure doesn't feel like it now. :dunno: I have WW later and need to work on my ironing pile.

Beth calls after work while she is waiting to get on the interstate near the flooding in SD. She said there is talk of closing the interstate next week, and that there are sheriff deputies checking IDs of people trying to get off the interstate. She has to call every morning before leaving for work to see if she can get there and they have electricity. Bob was at a meeting last night and one of the guys was going over to help sandbag today. He said that some of the "fancy" home owners are taking out light fixtures, woodwork, and cupboards. There was an aerial picture in the paper today and the houses closest to the river all have pools. I can't imagine what a mess it is going to be to clean up afterwards. There is a park where lots of weddings take place and they have been cancelled for the summer. Brides are trying to find alternate reception areas because their first choices were places along the river. I can't help but feel there will be some major law suits against the Core of Engineers (?) that ok'd the water release. These dams were supposed to prevent flooding.

"Gma" -- The estimate for a new furnace and air conditioner seems really high to me. Will you get a second opinion? It is so sad about your nephew's ex; I will include the family in my prayers. Has Jack tried a gel insert in his boot? I know that sometimes helps cushion the foot. I really feel for him! :stars: Enjoy your haircut and getting your nails done today.

I need to get dressed and get busy! Have a terrific Thursday and enjoy! :D

Good morning, ladies. Only 84 right now and it's supposed to be in the high 80s today -- and low 50s tonight!

Faye, my townhouse is 1853 sq. ft. and the new AC and heat is costing $5500 installed. I'd get some more estimates before the thing goes out altogether. I really feel for Jack. That was terrible about that girl. The poor thing must have been so depressed and full of dispair.

Jean, they said they were opening the flood gates to save the bigger towns down river. I doubt you can sue the government.

I have quilting bee tonight so can enjoy Sandy's AC. LOL

Have a wonderful day!

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

I slept in. It sure felt good. It is 90 degrees as I type and the talking heads say it will get up to 95 before the day is over here in the Heartland. Our trip to buy jerkey was a bust. He had sold out over the holiday weekend and the new bach is not ready. Well it wasn't really a bust for we had fun going and coming from that butcher shop which is over an hour away. He makes the absolute best. I should just make my own for I know how.;) My mother taught me and I have Emerials recipe. She also made "bathtub rootbeer" and I am not going to do that though for I don't have a huge wash tub to use and don't want to order one. Nor do I have a bottle capper device. She made awsome catsup also. Had a nice zing to it. She took the Sunset Magazine for the West Coast and got some great ideas out of it and had "can do" so made some neat things. But her root beer made the best root beer floats I have ever had. Now I settle for one made with sugar free A&W root beer and ff sf vanilla ice cream. A&W root beer is the best on the market I do believe. Barts runs a good second. I like to on occasion make a freezie. Mix the root beer and ice cream all up in a blender. Life is good.

DONNA FAYE That is a tragedy what happened. I certainly hope that your nephew gets some good counseling to get though these troubling times. Some of the best training I had was in how to deal with suicidal folks. You need to get a commitment each day from them that they won't do it that day. Each and every day as they are getting treatment. Suicide is such a final act. Isn't it fun to get your hair done and your nails all spiffed up. We are running about the same temp here as you are there in TN. I am so thankful that this air unit works well and keeps us cool. If the unit goes ka-put the church will replace it ;) for it isn't something we would take with us when and if we ever leave here. We bought the fridge and freezer and washer and dryer because we wanted to keep them otherwise the church would have bought them for the house. We put up ceiling fans and some window treatments ~ but will just donate them for we certainly won't be taking them.:p We always leave a house in better condition than when we moved in. I just hope this air conditioner doesn't go out since they are a high ticket item. :crossed:

JEAN Fargo floods every year. I wonder why they don't just bite the bullet and make that river deeper since it is so shallow and escapes its banks every year. Every year it floods at least it did when we lived in SD. But the floods are worse this year all over the world. Those folks that are taking the things off the walls and such are probably under insured. Most of that "stuff" they are taking out is custom made and very spendy. They are thinking of rebuilding. I say dig that river deeper to handle the water.

GOOD AFTERNOON SUSAN & GAIL Hope all is well with you this day.

I need to figure what it is I am going to make for dinner this day. Shopping in the freezer I can come up with a nice meal.

Susan -- I am wondering what will happen as the Missouri waters combine with the Mississippi and move further south. I hope people are paying attention along the way. Have fun at the quilting bee tonight and stay cool. :D I hope your place isn't too unbearable for you to sleep.

Maggie -- I'll take my 85 degrees instead of your 90! ;) The wind has picked up but so has the humidity. The neighbors have trees with those little whirly whigger thingys and they collect by my front door. I would go scoop them up but until the wind quits there is no point. Sorry you didn't get your beef jerkey. I thought sure you were going to say you would make your own. We haven't heard much about Fargo flooding the last few years. I'm thinking that is the Red River, right? I know the Mighty Mo comes from MT.

My mashed potatoes and ice cream caught up with me at WW -- a pounds worth. :( I am so hungry for Chinese so may suggest that option for tonight and start with a clean slate tomorrow. Onward and downward we go! :cheer: :cheer2: :cheer3:

As you can see, another early morning for me. The dog woke me up having to go out again so I thought to heck with it I would just stay downstairs and sleep but it wouldn't come so here I am. We are going to have a heat index of 105 today so I am staying home and staying indoors.

I got my haircut and nails done and a bit of shopping, but frankly in the heat it took it out of me and I just grabbed a sandwich and a diet coke on the way home and ate it driving then dragged in my store purchases and crashed on the recliner in the dark for an hour before I had to go out and go get Jack. We did Olive Garden early for dinner as my legs and feet hurt from retaining water from the heat. It was a pleasant dinner than we came home and just relaxed for the evening. I did a quick load of laundry so Jack would have fresh city logo tshirts he could wear as he only has two as the rest of them haven't come in yet. It is much cooler to wear the white tshirts that the dark uniform shirts to work and I don't mind.

I am so very proud of my nephew who has dug deep and found the strength to do what needs to be done. He went along with his bil to identify the body so her boys wouldn't have to do it then they went to the facility there in town that handles rehabs, mental illness, etc to find out why she was released. She has been in and out of that place over the years and a lot recently I understand and actually on the day of her death was in the center and was released to "self" even though her records clearly state she should only be released to her sons or husband because of her instability. They released her at noon and by 3 she was dead. I hope they sue the heck out of the dr and hospital for just letting her go like that. That is not to say that sooner or later she wouldn't have accomplished what she did, as people who have suicidal issues unfortunately sooner or later find a way, but she wouldn't have died at that time if they had only called my nephew or her boys. I just feel so bad for my nephew and her sons.

Jean: Believe me, at least we here in Memphis are paying attention as the river is on the rise slowly again. Hopefully, it is down enough to be able to absorb the swollen Missouri's waters. I was reading the online paper from South Bend last night and it said it was 78 degrees there and we were at 98! I told Jack and he kind of groaned and said that would be nice. I guess though when you are freezing and in feet and feet of snow, you can say that about us. Ugh, I read your post quick and originally saw you say your mashed potatoes and ice cream caught up with you and thought, ick who eats that together??? :lol3::frypan: I could be a Chinese food addict so I really have to stay away from the stuff except once in awhile. We love PF Changs and I have this little shop that has good stuff too. The big price tag would be because the furnace and the ac would have to be removed, all the ductwork coils and all would have to be replaced, a bigger box to handle the bigger units, etc. So basically you would be putting in a new furnace and a new air conditioner. Jack was just talking with a guy at work who does HVAC on the side and he said that is the kind of price we would be looking at to increase the tonnage on our ac unit because to accomodate we would have to rip out everything. I know when we had the furnace replaced about 5 years ago if we had had to pay for it we would have had to fork over a few thousand dollars. We ended up paying nearly a thousand anyway even with a home warranty.

Maggie: I like A and W too. When I was a kid they had "Dog and Suds" drive inns which had great root beer. Do you remember when you were real little your mom could get you a root beer in those teeny tiny mugs? I always wanted one of those mugs but mom couldn't afford to buy us all one so I never did get one! Jack and I like IBC root beer too.

Susan: Our condo is about 100 sq feet smaller than yours and is basically a townhouse too. Do you happen to know what your tonnage is on your ac? We have a half ton at the moment and the guy who worked on our ac said it would probably be a lot better if we would up it 1/2 to 1 ton more. We are thinking of getting a portable ac unit to help with the cooling for now. Our ac works fine as long as the temps are like they are right now, but what happens is the house gets too hot for the ac to keep up with it and it runs constantly without stopping so it has to have a breather so to speak to cool down so the compressor will stop and when it does no more cooling of the coils. We haven't had this hot of weather this early in a long time so I hope this isn't an indication of how summer is going to be only worse.

You gals have a wonderful weekend. Jackson called me last night as he has gotten most of his birthday presents. I told him that his big present would be there tomorrow (today now) and he said why and I said because Nonny and Granddad wanted to get him lots of presents and he again said why and I said because we love you bunches and why and on and on. I gave up and told him I loved him and ask to talk to his dad!

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun was peeking out when I got up this morning but has disappeared. If it comes out and stays out it will be hot and sticky again today. I have an appt. to get my glasses checked this morning; I don't think the prescription is right, and I'm still having issues with the no line working on the computer at church. I don't know if the people in the office don't communicate with each other or what, but I've called with questions and/or concerns which take sometimes up to a week for an answer.

"Gma" -- I woke up around 3 and couldn't get back to sleep. Bob was restless and said he'd been up wandering around because his stomach hurt. We didn't eat all the same things last night, but I was fine. I couldn't get back to sleep but was determined to stay in bed. I hope you thought of me while you were eating at the OG! ;) We are going to an "Elvis" program/play of some sort in Sioux City next week with another couple. I'm hoping we will have time to eat first and OG will be my choice if asked. That really is sad about your nephew's wife being released from the facility. It makes one wonder if anyone anywhere does their job correctly any more. I have a little A & W mug; I think we (I know I didn't do it) stole it when we were teenagers on the loose. There is an A & W on our way to the cabin and we sometimes will stop there on our way home. It's hard to believe Jackson is 4 -- time flies! What is his big present? Kolby would just lay the phone down and walk away if Beth wasn't right beside him.

I need to get busy and start another SOS box. I visited with a neighbor who lives nearby and she has a "hoarders" room too! They are adding on a double garage to the double garage they already have and she expects the "hoarded stuff" to spread! I would lose my happy home! Enjoy your day today! :D

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

It is currently 83 and expected to climb to 93 by 5 o'clock this day. I have decided we didn't have any spring but jumped right into summer again this year. We don't have 4 seasons here but three. Our library here in this little burg has a deal where I could download Audiobooks and eBooks on my Blackberry. Such a deal to be able to do that and not have to buy books for the phone ~ just check them out of the library. That is if I want to read a book on my phone. :p They are getting just too cute with the downloads available. We have certainly come a long way baby. Yep I can remember those old dial up phones with a party line and our phone numbers were just a few digets. Life is good. I need to clean off my desk so I can tear off May for it is already the 3rd of June. I have a few things sitting on that area. After all it is on the middle of the surface of the top of my desk. One of those big desk calendars. Will is out doing some yard work and they dogs are helping him. Beanie loves to be in the thick of things. Ole Ragg Mopp just kicks back and watches and lazes in the sun. They are fixin to remodel Applebees and Will had to take some pictures of some of the items they have hanging on the wall for the museum. If they don't have some of the "old" items they are taking down they can get them from Applebees for the museum. The pictues were to check if they already have those items or not. Anyway so we ate there last evening. I didn't choose from the WW offerings but went for the ribs. Yikes. If I show a loss this next weigh in I will be surprised. Shame on me but they were so delicious and it has been a long while since I had any so good. I'll not snivel if I show a gain. I am back on it today though. Gonna be OP the rest of the week which is 3 days. :p It was worth it, so there. :D I ordered something real neat that I am looking forward to getting. Since it is so humid here at times my spices in my jars tend to clump. I put rice in some of them but found something I know I will like better. They are called "Spice Saver Tablets. They are food safe tablets that absorb moisture and you just put one in a spice jar and it goes to work. Now I will just have to figure out which ten spices I want to put them in. :o If ten aren't enough I know where to get more. I want them especially for my lemon pepper, garlic and onion powder and some of my spice mixes. I found them in a catalogue called The Artisan Table by Cooking Enthusiast.com. I have bought several neat "different" things from them through the years.:p

DONNA FAYE Oh my. With that on her record that she only be released to a "person" and not on her own ~ they definitely have a law suit. Did you know that A&W have made little mugs but they are smaller and in colors and plastic. I used to have a couple of the small origional glass ones but they have gone by the wayside during some move or another.:?:

JEAN Another garage! Wow she must be serious and her husband is an enabler. That is a sickness that does have a cure. I do hope you get your glasses deal fixed for that is miserable when they don't work right. I know for I once had the wrong perscription and it was terrible. Keep on them and they have to make it right.

Okay...I am here. Life is busy. And I guess that is the way it is supposed to be at least for right now. My FIL gets out of the hospital on the 14th...and he's comin' to Delaware...kickin' and screamin' the whole way. In fact, he's already doing that and he hasn't left the hospital yet. His doctor did not increase the weight that he can put on his leg and according to the hospital Medicare and his insurance will not cover the tab after the 14th. And he cannot be on his own because he cannot put any weight on his leg whatsoever. AND on top of all that, two physical therapists and a social worker have phoned me letting me know what he should be doing once he gets to Delaware and...how he's been acting there. Evidently, my FIL has not been playing nice--he's been biligerent, cussin', and having moments of confusion. Like...they were telling us something we don't already know? The moments of confusion really are not that bad. Heck, I get confused! But the biligerent and cussin' part is inexcusable. When the physical therapist works with him, he doesn't want to follow direction although he claims he is. Then he cusses her out. The Lord is going to have to send me some patience. And guess who gets to drive down to VA to fetch him? Yep, you got that answer right! ME. Plus, he needs a ton of home health equipment he's already squawking about claiming that he doesn't need it. He claims he doesn't need a wheel chair (it can be rented and Medicare will cover the cost...and he knows this) that a walker will do (which they want him to have also). AND he doesn't need a seat for the bathtub that swivels or slides (or whatever) and he doesn't need a thing for the toilet that has arms. He does not want to come to Delaware; he wants his life back. And I don't blame him! I really don't but sometimes you've got to do physical therapy and have certain things to help you to get from Point A to Point B. Please Lord, don't let him break his leg again on my watch! Wayne says he refuses to argue with his Dad (and I feel the same way) about any of this; that if he doesn't want it or do the physical therapy....so be it. It will be his choice. Yep...gonna be a nice summer ahead of us!

Maggie, I love Applebee's. We ate there last week. I ate off the WW menu and it cost me 13 points. It was some kind of chicken thing. Good. Hope I recognize it on the menu again! See? I have moments of confusion!! It's a beautiful day here--high 70's. My ac has not come on once today. Oh...I have not been to WW this week.....and I need to get back. I'm thinking about transferring my membership to the senior center in town (5 minutes away from my house) on Tuesday mornings.

Jean, you should've phoned me...I was awake at the same time--3am. And I haven't taken a nap yet. This is happening more frequently to me--waking up in the middle of the night and I can't go back to sleep.

Donna Faye, God bless your nephew. What a tough thing to do. You be careful in this heat. I understand everything you've been saying about your ac unit. We went through the exact same thing with our's last summer. Our unit is hooked in with our heating system and we replaced both. And went up in size and we can tell the difference. And it is expensive. We had to cash out a Roth IRA to pay for it but I think it was worth it. We just could not stand to have another monthly bill.

Susan, I know you enjoyed your quilting bee. I love the time I get when I lunch with my girlfriends or go knit at the yarn store.

Wayne will be home in a few minutes...so I need to get started on dinner....or at least think about what I'm going to have for dinner....

Good evening, ladies! Its been a blessed cool day today - only 75 degrees.

I went to the Y this morning and then when I was making a turn, I turned to wide and hit the curb and blew a tire. Oh, joy. I called AARP assistance and they had a nice young man to me in 10 minutes. He put the spare on and I went around the corner to the tire store and got it replaced. That shot 2 hours. It's always something.

Faye, the AC is a one ton unit. They would have only replaced that if I wanted but I knew the heat would be the next thing to go being 22 years old. They both were original to the house. It seems you were just racing up the highway to be there when Jackson was born! How's Jack's foot?

Jean, I have a friend who is the next thing to a hoarder - house, barn, back room at her husband's shop are all full to overflowing and she still buys more. Rather sad really that they let possessions mean so much to them.

Maggie, my library has the ebooks and audio books online too. I download to my computer or MP3 player. It's so nice to have them available 24/7.

Gail, maybe you could get your FIL to cooperate with the PT more if you stressed to him that was the only way he was going to get to go home and get back to dancing. Rudeness is another thing - totally uncalled for. I try to order WW friendly when I go out, too. I'm at the point where I don't do well with sugar or fat in my meals and processed foods make me bloated.

Have a great evening. Tomorrow is WI day at WW (first meeting of the month) and then grocery shopping.

Susan, I'm finding a lot of foods upset my stomach. As a rule I eat "clean food". Very seldom do I eat casserole type foods. I have to be careful that I don't eat a lot of fiber. The older I get the more sensitive my stomach is! About my FIL, that's what I plan on telling him...you want to go home then do the work with the least amount of lip! LOL But I'll say it nicely! :)

Maggie -- Don't worry too much about eating ribs at Applebee's. You know how to work the program and should be able to enjoy a favorite food from time to time. :T I decided to go back to lined tri/bifocals because of working on the computer. The no line just didn't give me enough visable area and that defeated the whole purpose of the trifocal part of the glasses.

Gail -- Don't be surprised if your FIL figures out a way to stay put in VA. ;) He sounds like my grandpa many years ago . . . onery! I have those sleepless nights every once in awhile and I'm just thankful I don't have to get up and go to work. Usually I've had a good nap in front of the tv the evening before. How did Wayne's interview go? I looked at WM's yarn; all they have is acrylic. :(

Susan -- Congrats on going to the Y today. Did you :swim: ? I'm sorry you had to get a new tire but at least that was a fixable. Good luck at WW tomorrow!

Good morning to you all! It is going to be over the top hot today, at least 100 and heat index says 109. We may take Fortune, put him in his seat belt and car carrier and head out towards Nashville just to get out of the heat today. It will be just a ride in the car, but he loves it and we enjoy it too.

I have to go to the store this morning and pick up a few things. I am finding out that the minute I get home from shopping I need to dump all my raspberries in a colander and rinse them, put them out on paper towels to dry then store them. I had two boxes mold before I could eat them and I bought them just a few days ago. That is over $5 down the drain. On a happier note, Jack and I have been back on WW for a full month without a hitch. Jack will be able to see his shoes soon I think! He has lost about 4-5 inches off his belly area and he says his new work pants are about two inches too big. We are going out to eat once a month and allowing ourselves whatever we want, but are trying to stay away from really high fat places like Mexican. Like I said, we did OG the other night and even treated ourselves to a dessert, but it was one time and though delicious, I found it upset my stomach so no more dessert except maybe a bite here and there. I don't know if my scale is going to move on Monday as my feet are so swollen from the heat. I can't even wear my new sandals now and I just bought the darn things. I have to either clunk around in a pair of black crocs or I have one pair of Land's End sandals I can wear if my feet aren't too horrible.

Gail: I too have to be careful of fiber. I guess because I have so much less colon with the surgeries, I don't know but it can cause havoc if I eat too much. I think your idea about your fil is the way to go. There may come a time where you have to just tell your dad, it is a scooter or a nursing home, take your pick. Sometimes you have to get tough with them though you don't want to. He is missing out so much but not taking medication for depression and getting a scooter to give himself mobility. We old codgers can get cranky, can't we???

Jean: I am soooooo sorry we forgot to call you and Bob and ask if you wanted to go to OG with us! ;) I have been working on a restaurant list for Branson and found a nice pasta place and he refuses to go because in his words, "those mom and pop italian places you know can fix goofy food." Well, this is a chain restaurant and I told him so, but no going so if we want italian on vacation it is OG I guess as it is the only place he likes. I want to go to Fuddruckers for lunch someday and he said he ate there once and "wasn't impressed." GRRRR, the man can drive me to distraction. I think I will buy him a half gallon of milk and a box of cereal and let him eat that and I will go to the restaurants! Oh, we bought him a scooter/skateboard. He rode a radio flyer scooter at a little friend's birthday party a couple months ago I guess and loved it. This one is for the same age group, but the handle comes off so he can learn to ride it as a skateboard. His dad was a huge skateboarder in jr high school so thought he would have a good teacher. He already has helmet, knee and elbow pads I bought him last year for his birthday to ride his bike I bought him, which he still hasn't done. I imagine it won't be long now that spring is here as it should fit him much better now.

Susan: Ours is only 1/2 ton and our square footage isn't much off yours so that is probably why it doesn't keep up, it just plain isn't big enough. I turn it on at 4 am and it runs until around noon then when the compressor turns off the first time, we put the thermostat up so it won't turn on and don't turn it on again until early morning. It does not good to turn it on later as it won't stay on because the heat outside won't keep the unit cool and the heat in the house is such it would run constantly and can't do that. So, we just live with it. The house gets warm around 6 or 7 but not unbearable with the fans all going all the time. We just plain can't afford a new one having to tear out everything and replace it and it is stupid to put in the same size if that size can't do the job. Jack's foot is still really sore, but as long as he doesn't have to walk on it he is fine. It isn't throbbing or anything, just hurts to walk. He has to go in on Monday to have her look at it again so we shall see what she does. Oooh, since you gals have it, I am going to have to look at my library system to see if they do it. I doubt it with the city finances in such a mess.

Maggie: I love audio books to listen to while I knit. I can knit a long time if I am listening to a book. Music, though I love it, doesn't do the same thing as a book. I love my ebooks on my Iphone too. I have a whole bunch in my library I have already read. We had a party line when we were growing up and it drove us nuts. We had someone on it that was a real blabber mouth. Boy, how things have changed!!! We now can take our phones with us anywhere in the world.

Well gals, Fortune is barking which means he wants to be fed. Have a yummy Saturday all. Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! We got up to clouds and evidence that it had rained during the night. The sun has come out and the humidity is on the rise although it isn't supposed to be that hot. Bob is up at the cabin working on the shed doors. The neighbors tease him that all he does is work when he is there. How true that is! Jason has been all over MN and ND this week adjusting wind damages for another agent who had emergency surgery, and was on his way back to Sioux Falls when Bob talked to him last night, so he won't be at the lake today.

"Gma" -- I had to laugh at Jack seeing his shoes; that reminds me of being pregnant and not being able to see my feet. Oh, the memories! :congrat: to both of you for working the program together! I am not a big wine drinker (nor any other alcohol) but OG has a Muscato wine that is so good. At $6 for a 3/4 full glass I rarely order it. They gave us a sample a long time ago and I actually remembered the name. I usually drink water when eating out because it bugs me to pay high prices for coffee, pop, etc., when they are the cheapest item to serve. Jason had a skateboard and was pretty good on it. I tried it once and about broke my neck! :stars: It's hard to believe Jackson is old enough for a scooter or a bike. They grow up too fast!

I need to get laundry switched to the dryer, work on some never ending ironing, and try on some clothes that I wore last summer. They'd better fit! Have an enjoyable weekend! :D

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

It is currently 85 here in the Heartland and expected to get up into the 90’s again this day around 5:30 pm. The wind isn’t blowing this day :crossed: so far anyway, just :flame:. I don’t have anything I “must” do this day and so am just woke up to the world nice and easy. It was time to do my nails so they are all nice and polished with clear once again. I don’t usually use any color but when I do them I like to use clear. The tips of my nails which are 3/8 of an inch long look like they are done in creamy white so I don’t even do that. I was blessed to inherit my great aunts nails. I like to keep the clear on them because of some of the chemicals I use with my glass works is drying to my nails. When my nails get any longer than they are now or I break one  I trim them back. We just got back from running a few errands and came home with another wind chime. This one has a big mouth bass on it and nice pieces of drift wood. Now there are three hanging on the edge of the patio roof. :cp: On the way home we passed by a house having a yard sale and I saw a table of Christmas items. We turned around and low and behold I got some real nice spendy items for 50 cents apiece. I have seen some of the things in catalogues and one is a 18 inch stuffed soft moose with a Christmas bell on a red ribbon around its neck which sold for $70 which is still in new condition they had on a table with children toys. A couple of 8 inch tall stuffed scare crow mom and pop are neat and of great quality that have wire hangers on them. One of the more spendy items that cost a whole dollar was a large gold wire sleigh with greenery and pinecones in it that will look great as a dining room decoration. I got some quality things for under 5 bucks which puts a smile on my face. They are now in a closet that holds our Christmas things. Christmas shopping in June. :smug: But come December I will be glad we got these items. For dinner this day I am baking a couple of nice bakers I have and oven cooking some chicken breast tenders rolled in lemon pepper Panko. Life is good.

DONNA FAYE How is Jack's foot doing this day? I hope y'all enjoyed your drive in the country. :bravo: for you and Jack being OP for so long. It will be interesting to hear how much you lost when you lose that water weight. OH ~ I can't eat much of the sweets either anymore. I would rather have fruit and :cheese: for the most part. A taste of a good pie is about all I want anymore. My system calls out for fiber ~ so I have one of those that has to incorporate lots of fiber into my diet to keep it on a regular keel. I bet your library does have that book program for you to download. Sure saves money to do it that way.

JEAN I can just hear those neighbors at the lake teasing Bob when he isn't there to enjoy a vacation but to work. Those eagles are something now aren't they. Wonder with they will finally leave the nest.

GAIL I just know you can get you FIL to do his "thing" to get back to dancing. If he wants to dance again he will do his rehab exercises. If he sits and does nothing then he will get nothing for his lack of effort. You go girlfirend you can deal with this gentleman.

SUSAN What ply tire do you have that would blow just hitting a curb? Sorry  that did happen though for they can get spendy. Are you ready for this? We run 265 (the size); 75R (size of radial); 16 (inches of rim) 10Ply. But our Jeep is called a "Rock Crawler" so it had better be able to climb a curb.

I need to go start dinner now. Time sure flys when you are having fun. Type at y'all later.

Maggie -- I was beginning to think you were out and about having fun today when you weren't here earlier! It has cooled down nicely since the sun has gone down. Bob thought it was "hot and humid" but he was outside working most of the day. He came home and mowed the yard after finishing the shed doors at the cabin. The weatherman says we are going to have several high 80s and low 90days next week. It sounds like you made quite a haul at the yard sale. :cp: Our party neighbors, who live behind us, have another couple there tonight. They've been hootin' and hollerin' since late afternoon, either on their deck or down below in the yard. They tried for an hour to get a charcoal grill started  while they have a gas grill sitting right beside it. I'm sure by the time they eat they will be feeling no pain. They have a place up at Okoboji, but not on the lake, where they spend most of their time. I have no clue why they'd come home this weekend. :dunno:

Good Morning, Flowers! It's a beautiful morning in my corner of the world; sunny, slight breeze, and low humidity. We skipped church :o this morning, and really don't have a good reason other than a lay person was speaking since the pastors are at annual conference in Des Moines. I've read the paper and started the dishwasher; I thought the rinse stuff was disappearing too quickly so have been paying better attention. I let it go completely empty, refilled it, and before I could run it again the gauge said it was half full. This will be the second service call in 3 years and I am not a happy camper about that! :hyper:

I have a load of laundry to take downstairs then need to sort through some shoe boxes in the closet. I know I haven't worn some of the shoes, hiding in them, for a long time; they are going in the SOS box! :cheer:

Have a relaxing day and enjoy! :D

Good afternoon, ladies! It's only 68 degrees. We had a thunderstorm earlier today and that was good for we are really dry again.

I maintained at WW yesterday and that was good. I've added 8 points to my original 29 so that is a goodly amount in addition to my APs and WPs. My first word day will be June 18. I'm looking forward to it. The classes are good.

Glory and I went to tea yesterday afternoon. Nora, the English lady who puts on the teas, was just back from there and had several new items on the tea including the fruitcake that was served at The Wedding, and Queen Victoria sponge cake. Everything served at the tea is just a bite or two so it's a no guilt to try them.

Maggie, my tire was covered under the road hazard clause so I don't think its uncommon for hitting the curb just right blowing a tire. I have Goodyear Eagles on my car. I'm like you, love to find a bargain at thrift shops or yard sales. I feel so virtuous.

Jean, sometimes it's just nice to kick back on Sunday morning and read the papers. I go to the Saturday evening Mass and then I can do that, too.

Faye, I'm surprised you were here already!

Gail, I hope your weekend is going good for you.

Have a great Sunday!

Wow. What a weekend! Wayne and I went to Va. Beach. Again. This time we drove down early Saturday morning and were back home by midnight! But it felt good to wake up in our own bed, wake up and go to church (empowers us for the week ahead!), go to the fruit/veggie/lawn care place, come home and putter around the house. Same ol' same ol' with my Dad. I will drive down and spring my FIL from jail...I mean the hospital on the 14th, bring him up to Delaware and then back we go on the 29th for a doctor's appointment on the 30th. He has not been in his own house since April 27 and I know how badly he wants to go home but he does realize until he sees his doctor on the 30th he needs help. There is no help for him in Va. Beach. Help is here in Delaware. One day he will be able to dance but slow dances only. He knows this. BUT...one thing we're starting to notice with my FIL is that he's aging incredibly fast now. He has moments of confusion. Not bad moments; he knows who he is, who everyone is, where he is. He just has moments where he stops and he has to think or he may speak a little too fast and he gets things wrong. He catches himself. But he's a tough old bird.

I just wish I could give a better report about my weight. While I'm hanging in the area of maintaining (3 lbs. more or less than what I have posted), it scares me to think I could slip so easily back up above 200. I never want to see that.

Today is going to be a very nice day and a busy one but I wanted to come in and say hello to everyone. I promise I will get back in here and get more personal but I just wanted y'all to know I'm okay. :)

Take care...

Jean

Good Morning, Flowers! It is going to be a HOT one today! There is NO wind and no one is outside unless they have to be. I've been to church only to find out that the program I need to use wasn't installed on the new computer that I need to use. When the secretary called the rep, he said it would be a 1/2 hour wait. Yeah, right -- 2 hours later I finally came home and will go back when he's been there and gone. I did help the VBS director get set up, sorted snack food items, and made name tags. We've had a lot register but there are always those who just show up at the last minute.

Susan -- :congrat: on another maintain at WW this time. You are doing so well with the program. I'm glad that Glory is feeling better and could go the tea with you. A tiny bite of different goodies is a good idea. I wish they would do that at potlucks!

Gail -- Your car will soon be on automatic pilot after all your recent trips to VA. I think any time an elderly person has a major medical issue, they don't bounce back as easily. Heck, I get confused when I can't remember what it is I wanted to say if my train of thought gets interrupted. As far as your weight ups and downs, just try to eat sensibly and be aware of what goes in your mouth. That's hard I know. :(

Maggie -- What are you up to today? :twirly:

"Gma" -- Whheeerrrreeeee are you? I hope all is ok at your house. :crossed:

There is another load of laundry waiting in the basement and a load of towels to fold. Hope you all have a marvelous Monday and enjoy whatever you are doing today! :D

Jean -- from Iowa!

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

It is in the high 90's right now and fixin' to get over 100 this day. No spring. We hopped right into the heat of summer. Our Jeep is acting up so it gets a check up on Friday. Probably needs the tranney serviced. Whatever it is it is fixable and not to fret. The dogs don't want to be outside much with this heat. Can't blame them though. I just knew I was going out of bounds too much this past week and was paid off with one pound gain :goodscale:. Got to get a grip and get back on it now so I will do just that. Those dogs. Will got each a new toy but they weren't exactly alike so each wanted each others then they wanted the other one back and on it went. Next time they have to be exactly alike. They are like a couple of two year old kids going at it. My sides hurt from laughing. Will now has the nicest piece of marble to pound on. He needs that hard surface to do some of his leather work. I need to tackle my kitchen and get it all squared away again. I didn't put some things up where they belonged and need to get at it this afternoon. I am not having good succes growing herbs on a shelf in the window in there. I think I will just not try that anymore. The basil and parsley look real good but the chives and thyme are not well. :( Will can replant the two that look good in the garden or not. I am through trying to grow my herbs inside. Through. Fini. That's it. No more.

JEAN I don't know why the tech folks can't come when the say they will or call. I hate to sit around waiting. Good for you to go home and wait. VBS is always a fun thing to do. And lots of work.:o I imagine it is as hot there as it is here this day.

GAIL That is a scarey thought to go back up after it has been so hard to go down. Put the skids on and hold firm. We don't want to regain what it took "blood sweat and tears" to get off. Graceous girlfriend we can do this thing.:soap: You see I can tell you that because I need it also. :high: we can do this thing together ya know. It is a bright :sunny: day to be OP.

SUSAN I know you are looking forward to that first work day! :congrat: on that maintain and WOW you get to add points. What a wonderful reward to have lost so much. That tea sounds like it was a fun do ~ gettin a taste of British pasteries.

DONNA FAYE Were art thou?

Time to go and fix some lunch and then tackle rearanging my kitchen counters to make them more user friendly. Type at y'all later ~ have a great afternoon.

Afternoon ladies! We are ok here in Elvisland. I just got a wild hair after posting on Sat about a ride to Nashville and we packed up and went to Nashville for the whole weekend. It was wonderful. Fortune was sick, but his little tummy and intestines always cause him trouble if he gets excited. I just hope we don't have to go another round of antibiotics. I made him some eggs this afternoon and so far he hasn't even eaten that. :( We stayed at a fairly new Red Roof Inn that had an outdoor pool and a big king room with a fridge and microwave and it didn't cost us a cent to bring Fortune. We stayed cool the whole weekend. We had to come back this morning though because Jack had to go to the drs.

They did xray his foot today, it was another doctor not the same one and this one had sense enough to put him on light duty where he sits at a desk all week with his foot up. He says that now it hurts when he is just sitting too. Since it has not breaks or cracks I imagine he may have a pinched nerve or bruised muscle. I asked him if he stepped on something possibly but he says no so who knows. He is still gimping around.

We came home to the house being ok, but not particularly cool. We just cannot afford to buy a new unit so we are doing the next best thing and getting a portable unit for upstairs in the bedroom and one for the downstairs for the living room/kitchen area. We can vent it out through a window and it is flat so it is not seen by the outside besides there is a couple big bushes in front of the windows. It is portable on wheels and sits inside on the floor instead of in the window. It isn't going against condo rules as it doesn't change the outside of the condo besides there are folks here who have window units and if they want to make a stink about ours then theirs definitely have to go. It is the best solution for us for now.

I will talk to you gals more tomorrow. For now, it is going to be a hot and muggy evening as it is over 95 degrees here today. Have a good afternoon all. Faye

Good evening, ladies! Another lovely day in the low 80s.

I didn't get to the Y today because the electrician was coming - this morning he said - got here at 4 pm. I was a bit miffed. The new Heat/AC goes in on Wednesday. Those folks are so nice and they gave me a 10% discount since I'm a senior.

Gail, it seems like it sure has been raining in your life. Good luck with your FIL living there. You are doing well to maintain at this point.

Jean, I hope the people at church are appreciating all you do. Was that levee that broke near you? I ask because they said it closed part of the interstate.

Maggie, I would love to meet your dogs in person. I love the stories you tell about their antics.

Faye, that's nice you had a little mini vacation for the weekend. It sounds like you have the solution to your AC problems for now. I hope Fortune is okay and eating again.

Have a great evening. I'm reading a good book "Islands" by Anne Sidden and that's what I'm going to do this evening instead of tv.

The weather bug says it is 98 degrees as I am typing right now. All I know it is HOT outside! I'm still waiting for some nice "calm" spring days, but I think we missed those somewhere along the line. I called the church office after my meeting this afternoon to see if the tech dude had been there. No answer so assumed the secretary was out of the office and I drove over to the church to check, which was closer than coming home. Well, the treasurer (or whatever she is) was on the computer. "They" are trying to talk her into learning a new accounting program that is much cheaper than the current one and she is having a fit about it. Anyhow, I asked if she had just gotten started or was about finished; she snipped at me that she was right in the middle! So I told the secretary I'd be back tomorrow afternoon and do my posting. We had 60 kids registered for VBS and 45 more just showed up! I have a feeling they're going to run out of snack food before the middle of the week! :dizzy:

Maggie -- You know what to do to get rid of that pesky pound in short order! :cheer: I had to laugh and RM and B fighting over the dog toys. I need to clean out my kitchen cupboards and get rid of some dishes I never ever use.

"Gma" -- I'm glad you had a nice trip to Nashville! I hope Fortune is feeling better and his tummy has settled down. It's good that Jack got to see another doctor this time. Hopefully the light duty will let his foot heal properly.

Susan -- It's nice that you are getting a discount on your new furnace and air conditioner. :cp: Perhaps you should have given the electrician a "bill" for your valuable time spent waiting for him to show up! ;) My dishwasher guy said they would call before they come out to see what might be the problem. I told him I would be in and out this week, home on Thursday and gone again on Friday. I hate waiting for a repairman to show up! :tantrum: I think the broken levee is south of us towards Hamburg, IA, which is on the NE, IA, MO border. (5+ ?? hours away from here) The news tonight said they expect Hamburg to be evacuated and some people would leave permanently. As far as I know the interstate is still open around Sioux City although they have shut one exit and entrance ramp on the west side. When they redid the main street there, they should have raised it but didn't so it will flood even with a heavy rain.

I just got a call to help register VBS kids tomorrow afternoon! :spin: I am off to read my book for awhile and take advantage of the peace and quiet. Bob had a meeting and went back to the office afterwards.

As you can see it is 2 in the morning. I have been downstairs tonight because it is hot for one thing and cooler downstairs than up and secondly Fortune is really sick this time. We took him over to the vet this afternoon and they did a fecal test, gave him anti nausea and diahrrea meds and some antibiotics. She said if he wasn't eating by this morning to just bring him back and the doctor would run extensive blood tests and such. I have been really worried about him and had a devil of a time getting his antibiotic down him and wasted one putting it in food he wouldn't eat, which is what she suggested. I did get one in and down around midnight then decided I was going to start to give him stuff anything that wasn't harmful ie chocolate, etc to see if I could get him to eat. Well, I go thim to eat vanilla ice cream about a tablespoon, about 2 tsp of yogurt which will help with his tummy issues too, a small handful of cheerios and finally he ate 1 1/2 slice of some chicken bologna. None of it is the best, but I thought if I could get something anything down him that his stomach would tolerate than later on he would eat a better meal. I am thawing out hamburger which she said to make for him but to rinse it so later when I give him his second nausea pill I will make him some burger and see if he likes that. I explained what happened over the weekend and she said yorkies have the most sensitive of all dogs systems. She said it is because they keep trying to breed the perfect yorkie and it basically deteriorates their organs and such. Anyway, we shall see. I was going to keep the car and take him over later this morning, but since I got him to eat, I think I will hold off until Jack gets home and if he hasn't eaten any more by then we will head over. I think he will eat the hamburger though.

Susan: I hate waiting for service people. I understand when they get held up at a previous job, but Alexander Graham Bell invented this neat gadget that has come a long long ways and it actually works! I did have my ac guy call me when he was running late, which was nice though I didn't have plans like you did. Nice that the hvac people gave you a discount, which for that kind of money is quite abit.

Jean: Sounds like one grumpy lady. You seem to have gotten our heat wave too. It is totally miserable here and I am looking forward to putting in the portable units this weekend and getting my house cooled down. You are more busy since your retired then when you were at the school full time.

Well gals, I am going to get in the recliner with the dog and try to get a couple hours sleep, before Jack comes down to go to work. He said yesterday he thought it wasn't too bad going to work at 5 instead of 6 and wasn't as hard as he thought it would be. He will have a quiet week if he is desk bound until Friday. Have a good one, Faye

Happy Tuesday everyone! I am sitting here debating whether or not to get my butt (more like my legs) in gear and go for a walk at the park before it gets hot. I NEED to walk in order to lose weight. Eating a healthy diet (WW style) is not enough for me. Even if I walk slowly it will help me to get on the losing path. I know one thing is for sure when my FIL comes to stay with us I will definitely start walking. Walking is therapeutic for me; however, it's the getting started that is the hardest for me to do because...I. Am. A. Lazy. Person. At. Heart.

Donna Faye, bless your heart. Up at 2am. I've started the habit of waking up at 3am and going downstairs and watching tv until I'm bleary eyed enough to go back to sleep in bed. And then I'm awake at 5:15 for a few minutes (alarm goes off for Wayne) then I'm awake for the day at 6:30am. I know also what you are going through because of the heat and the ac not running properly. I went through that last summer. Heat makes me one cranky lady. Just ask Wayne! I'm sorry about Fortune. I would be doing the same thing--feeding him anything (besides chocolate) to get that medicine down his throat. Wayne used to have that duty with our dog of a long time ago. We keep saying we're going to adopt a new dog but we haven't yet. I'm thinking of doing that AFTER my FIL is back home on his own.

Maggie, Wayne would love to have two dogs! He would get a kick out of watching your two go at it over a toy. He gets so much joy out of having a dog. I'm thinking about surprising him for his birthday in July. However, the one criteria I want in a dog is I want him to be a Virginia Beach puppy. I want a dog that barks with a Virginian accent! :D You're right...I can lose weight! I can do this! Goodness gracious I've lost enough pounds in my lifetime to know I can do this. BOTH of us can!

Jean, spring missed us this year. It's supposed to get up to 97 on Thursday. It will be in the low 90's today. Delaware's corn crop is starting to wilt according to the newspaper this morning. I'm the same way--there are moments for me when I feel confused or forgetful. I don't know how much my FIL's confusion is from being in the hospital since April 27 and how much is contributed to his age of 86. Wayne says that is just one thing we'll take a day at a time.

Susan, I have been maintaining this weight for too long now. I've maintained for so long I am now used to this body and feel fat. Yeah...I know at this weight I am...but you know that feeling when you've lost a chunk of weight and you "feel thin"? I miss that feeling now and I want to feel the thinness again. Does that make sense because it makes sense to me!

My FIL wants to go home so badly. He hasn't seen the inside of his home (or the outside for that matter) since April 27. If I were him I would want to go home also. He says his leg no longer hurts. And he doesn't understand why the doctor is not allowing him to put any weight on his leg now. I tell him the doctor is just being cautious so when he does give him the go-ahead to put weight on it he will be that much stronger. He does not want to come to Delaware. Not even viewing it as a visit...and truthfully that is all it is--a visit. I tell him its just a transition phase from the hospital to our house and then to his house. I tell him everyone needs a little help every now and then and that it has nothing to do with that he is not an independent person that can take care of himself. He can take care of himself. He just cannot keep his house clean...and I don't tell him this (but Wayne has) but he's just too tight with money (think Scrooge) to pay anyone to come in every now and then to do the heavy duty stuff to keep the house clean. Personally, I have my doubts whether or not I will be bringing him back to Delaware with him. He is a stubborn old goat (and I say that with love because I do care for him even if he annoys the heck out of me most of the time). Wayne thinks he'll come to Delaware but it's how long we can keep him here that he questions!

Okay...enough is enough. I need to stop typing. I need to drag on my walking clothes and hit the path at the park.

Everyone, try to stay cool. Donna Faye, stay downstairs where it's cool. Drink a lot of water!!!
