Good morning to most and good afternoon to Jojo.
It's a new week in the neighborhood, so let's all do what we're supposed to do.
My "supposed to" week includes daily posting to myfitday.com to try to understand more about my diet and getting more cardio exercises at the gym. I won't get on the scales but I know I've put on some pounds because of the way my clothes fit. Although I do exercise, I have really cut back on my walking because of the heat, and I can tell it. But, the gym is air conditioned and there are treadmills....so, what is my excuse, really?
Have a great day everyone. (around midnight Vickie told us she loved us! Catch the vibe!)

Good Morning/Afternoon Chicks!
Rhonda is right. It's a new day and a new week. I'm ready to take some more positive steps. I, too, will be walking more. My hiatel hernia restricts my exercise but it does NOT keep me from walking. So walk I shall. Today is Jenny and Doctor day. I'm sure I'll need a walk when we get home but only if it's not too hot.
Sandra, I'm with you.

Good Morning Ladies:)
Had a very busy day & weekend. Now I'll have to take a rest today and get my house in order with a little laundry. Than the new week of events will start all over again tomorrow.Being the doctors than visiting my friends friend in a nursing home that fell on her steps and soon as she better she will be released.Wed to the movies Thurs bible study than back to my doctor and On Fri the PB club. Over the weekend hit the beach if the crowds aren't to bad. There predicting 3 million people in a 50 mile radius will be visiting us this weekend YIKES!!! hope no hurricanes will be in the area as we only have 2 bridges to get get on of off.
Went to the movies to see Eat Pray Love was good in my book, but my friend didn't like it she thought it was too long and see didn't like the part in India.Otherwise she like it.
RHONDA-Thanks for the pages, wish you all the best with your diet & exercising.I decided to go back to low carbing & get rid of my breads and going back to the Revolution Rolls now that the hot humidity is gone for a while I'll be able to turn the oven on again.
VICKIE-Wishing a good W-I at JC I get to go back to basics also, I'm already joined another challenge for Sept to Thanksgiving,to get down to my first 10% goal of 150.
Oh MG had no idea what time it is I have to go and start today's work in order to go out all this week.See you guys later

Cor! What a busy morning and barby yet to come. It is a public holiday today so Mark and I went to an open street market. We had a lovely morning, but it's hard on the feet. When we got home we took the dog for a walk and met everyone we knew. I didn't think we would ever get back to our house and it felt as if I had size 6 feet inside a size 3 shoe.
I think it was Vickie asking what we talked about on girls nights in. Well, we started having girls nights out 30 years ago, but now we stay at home. The person whose house it is in cooks the main meal, the one who hosted last time brings the starter and the one who hosted before that, brings the sweet course. EVERYONE brings a bottle, the excess bottles we save up for Christmas and have a party for partners.
We used to talk about fashion, make up, kids school, PTA etc etc. Now we talk about our aches and pains, where to get good value Glucosamine and the big one... having to get up at night to spend a penny. I don't know about the rest of you, but I often go so often at night, I'm thinking of sending out change of address cards.
Talk to you all tomorrow. Jo

Good morning. It's great to have a new week with a new month. Those are good times to "renew" good habits. Curtis is on the backporch visiting with a friend. I'm on the computer waiting for time to go get a shot. I'm really glad Curtis is able to get around so well. He's not even using a cane most of the time now.
Vickie, was JC good to you today. And the doctor? I am thinking he was probably impressed. He should have been.
JoJo, I got tickled reading about your girls night in. Sounds familiar. Have fun with your festivities today.
Maryann, thank you for the heads up on the movie. I think I'll catch it on DVD later instead of going to see it on thebig screen.
08-30-2010, 12:58 PM
I was down .6 today but with the small gain last week, I only lost .2 virgin ounces. I'll take it after the party this weekend. Now for the Doctor.
08-30-2010, 01:39 PM
Hello, my name is Polly and I want to lose 20 lbs. to start. I like Vickie’s slogan so I may re-phrase that to I want to lose 5 lbs. four times. I am a former WW member and counted points at that time. Since then I haven’t had any success with the points system when going it on my own. I like all Core foods, virtually all of them, so I am hopeful this will lend itself to better success.
I will be 47 in a few weeks, am 5’ 5” and weigh around 160, give or take a couple of lbs. The 140 range is so much healthier for me. All my weight is in my middle and butt (and a little in my boobs!) but I am most concerned about the waistline and its effect on my long-term health. In the past year I have been put on high blood pressure meds, which I believe is from weight gain. I quit smoking over eight years ago.
I exercise 3-4 days a week, but then sit ALL DAY LONG at a desk job, then at home, so I probably burn less calories than some.
It is a comfort to see a group of people with a common plan. I plan to weigh in on Fridays. This Friday can be my benchmark.
Nice to meet you.
08-30-2010, 05:56 PM
Welcome, Polly!!! How exciting to have new folks join us on our journey.
I did ok at the Gastro Dr. today. I'd lost 30 pounds since I was there last and he was quite thrilled. I got my med prescription and he encouraged me to keep going with the weightloss. I've aggravated the hiatal hernia and must take it REAL easy for a while. Then I went grocery shopping. Sigh.
I'll be back later.
08-30-2010, 07:11 PM
:welcome2: Polly. You've come to the right place if you want to meet a nice group of women who encourage and support one another on this journey.
Vickie, good for the doctor for being encouraging. And, good for you for the weight loss, of course
At the gym today a few of us talked about being frustrated about working out so hard and not losing weight. So, we committed ourselves to a week of squeaky clean eating, staying away from refined foods, eating as close to "raw" as possible, focusing on leat meat, vegs and fruit. We'll see if that helps. There is no doubt that I am gaining muscle but still have to lose fat. I spent 20 minutes doing intervals on the elliptical, in addition to lifting.
I also learned from my trainer that one reason swimming is so good for you is that the water actually compresses the joints and the tendons around them so that swelling is reduced, etc. I know that sometimes I just crave getting in the pool after lifting weights.
I hope you all have a good evening. (Sandra, good to hear about Curtis)
08-30-2010, 07:23 PM
Hey chickies. I have been op, so far, today :carrot: I have a core supper planned along with a sweet treat for after dinner coffee. I cooked again this weekend and prepared some breakfast foods, so now I have no excuses. I'm hoping this week will be pretty quiet, so maybe I can actually stay in control for a few days.
Sandra, my friend went to see Eat, Pray, Love, and she loved it. She thought it was definitely a big screen kind of movie because of the scenery. I have not seen it, myself. Sounds like Curtis is really doing well, yay!!
Rhonda, thanks for starting us up again. As usual, you sound like you are motivated.
Vickie, congrats on your good day with Jenny and the doc. You are doing great. Slow and steady wins the race!!!!
Maryann, all of your outings sound like fun. I hope the crowds don't get too bad and the weather stays good. How are you feeling?
Jojo, your girls' group sounds fun. It's awesome that you have been together so long. I loved your story about going to the market, but I'm sorry your feet hurt.
Polly, welcome to our little group! We are all losing weight in different ways, even though this is the core board. I am eating core foods myself, but others do low carb, low cal, and any combination that comes up. Hopefully we can give you some pointers and encouragement. Stick around!
I've got a date with the laundry room, so I'd better get off here. I'll check in later. TTFN
08-30-2010, 11:48 PM
:welcome: Polly. Hop right in and post away. We're glad to have you here and look forward to getting to know you better.
Curtis drove me to the hospital for my injection today. The man amazes me. Also, he's lost about 15 pounds. I am very happy for him. I will weigh next Tuesday to see how well I've been doing.
Rhonda, I think you and your friends have a great idea. I hope you get the success you're wanting.
Vickie, congratulations on your loss. Any loss is a great loss. Now take it easy and heal.
Sloan, you may be right. Maybe if we have a girls' day out soon, we'll go see it. I just don't think it would be a movie Curtis would like. He'd watch it here at home, though.
Well, Chickies, it's late and I'm tired. I'll catch ya'll later.
08-31-2010, 08:44 AM
Good Morning Ladies:)
Going to the doctor this morning and hope that I will have questions answered why my left arm, hand and fingers are tingling.
Accounting to the AAA auto club we're expected to have way over 3 million people on the cape this holiday weekend. The say its going to be in a 50 mile radius. Bad News if we have Hurricane Earl come upon us, there s going to a big panic here as we only have 2 bridges going in & out of the Cape. People are still talking about Hurricane Bob back in the '80's.
JOJO-A street market sound familiar we have that over here in our town for the tourist. Sorry that your feet hurt, that's not fun but your night ow with the girls is a different matter. We used to have that when I was living in NY.
SANDRA-I have seen better movies, but we saw all the other movies in the theater/pub .My friend doesn't want to go to far as her DH is not healthy anymore so we have to stay close by.
SLOANE-I have the best friend ever and we do have lots of fun together. The crowds are going to be at a record high but with Hurricane Earl heading our way is going to be disastrous if it hits.I'm fine, my left hand from the neck to the shoulder is hurting anymore but my elbow hand and fingers are still tingling so I heading out to the doctor for a EMG to see whats going on.
POLLYWelcome,:welcome: to the fold, you love it here,we're very special woman that support and care.
Have to get ready for the doctors, see you later
08-31-2010, 08:51 AM
:welcome2: Hello Polly. I'm only a couple of weeks ahead of you, but I have been made to feel very welcome and I'm quite at home. The girls on here are a lovely bunch and we all have the same aim. I'm in the UK, on the English side of the welsh border.
Hello everyone... Well the barby wasn't too bad. I behaved myself. I had a burger and a hotdog but ignored the fresh cream There were quite a few of us there and mercifully, the wind died down in time for us to enjoy a nice relaxed evening.
To be honest, I'm looking forward to a night in front of the TV with my knitting... sad eh?
08-31-2010, 11:49 AM
Good morning all:
I've been to the gym: 15 minutes on the elliptical and 45 minutes at a water aerobics class. I've had one piece of homemade whole wheat/wheat germ/olive oil bread with a bit of butter and large flake oatmeal with skim milk and blueberries. I'm planning lunch to be turkey breast and some kind of salad.
So far, so good.
I hope y'all have a good day. Watch out for those storms, Sloan and Maryann.
08-31-2010, 02:28 PM
Rhonda, you're having a good day and your bfast sounds yummy. I had cantaloupe for bfast and roasted chicken breast with veggies and homemade cornbread for lunch. So far so good today for me, too. We have watermelon chilling in the fridge for this afternoon.
YoYo, I'm with you enjoying evenings in front of the TV. I usually have the laptop going at the same time. (I can't knit.)
Maryann, that's a lot of people. Are you thinking of maybe going somewhere this weekend? I hope your weather holds out no matter what you decide to do.
I'm driving the mower towing a 35 gal water tank around the yard watering pecan trees. My doctor's office called a bit ago and told me that was all right just for me to not be dragging a waterhose around (like I did earlier today). So far, my back is feeling much better. I'd tell you what is wrong with it, but that would take too long. I'm thinking what it all boils down to is that I'm not aging quite as gracefully as I'd hoped--but all could be worse. I have a lot to be grateful for. Life is good.
I hope you're all having the kind of day you're wanting.
08-31-2010, 04:45 PM
I'm back from the doctors and I had the EMG and according to the test I have a moderate carpel tunnel along with a punched nerve around my left elbow.Have to ware a wrist brace in the evening when I go to bed.If it get worse I have to have my doctor[orthopedic surgeon] to operate on the wrist.
I'm seeing my own doctor on Thursday 9/2.Going to verify what this nerve specials told me. He told me after seeing the neck MRI that I have lots of arthritis in the main section of the spinal cord and there is a disc that's protruding that might cause problems later on in life.
Other wise that's all, hope i don't have to go for surgery on my wrist
Have a nice evening see you guys in the morning
08-31-2010, 06:25 PM
Hey chickies, I have to go supervise a homecoming float site later, so I've got to make it quick.
Maryann, at least the diagnosis is carpel tunnel and not a neck injury requiring surgery. Hopefully the brace helps.
Sandra, glad your back is better.
Rhonda, you never cease to amaze me! Can you come be my trainer?
Jojo, I'm a knitter, too! My most proud accomplishment is socks :D
GTG be a teacher. TTFN
08-31-2010, 07:00 PM
Maryann, that sounds like a good report. Just wear that wrist brace at night. You're wise to share the info with your rgular doctor. We do that, too.
Sloan, how about photos of the float when you get it finished?
08-31-2010, 09:54 PM
Oh Sandra, happily, I was not working on the float. I was just supervising. I will not even get to see the finished product, because I have a conference to attend on Homecoming Day. They were coming right along, though. Each class will work on their floats through Thursday then they will be judged on Friday night at the game.
Hope you chicks are having a good evening. Nighty, night!
08-31-2010, 10:02 PM
I was doing well with food until my niece and I decided to go have Margaritas and Mexican food to celebrate a milestone in getting better care for my brother/her father who suffers from bi-polar and is not really able to care for himself very well anymore. OK, I'll do more time on the elliptical tomorrow because it was so worth it! (I did not eat the rice and beans and tried not to eat all of the chips.)
Also, yesterday, I think I finally got the concept of using core muscles while lifting weights. :woohoo: It sounds simple, but an "ah ha" moment hit me yesterday.
I hope you're all having a good evening/night.
09-01-2010, 01:28 AM
Ontarget I have a longstanding back problem too. The doctors reckon it is from all the years nursing, but my mum (now 90 and sadly has dementia) maintains it is from the platform shoes and wedges I wore in the 70's.
Beachbum My husband has severe Carpel Tunnel syndrome caused by his job (lab. work). He sends you his sympathies and says hang in there. These days it is easier to get it fixed than 20 years ago when he developed it
Sloanie YEAH! Another sock junkie:carrot: I am hooked. I knit all Mark's socks and also ones as Christmas presents. I'm, at the moment, enjoying the random pattern wool. Mark has conservative tastes where socks are concerned.. beige, brown, earthy colours only. So I go to town on the ones I do for girlfriends.
Have a good day everyone. I was so tired last night, I hit the hay at 9.30pm, read until around 10.30 then dropped into a solid sleep. I have been up since 6am. Our dog is disgusted. When I came downstairs she gave me a 'Dog trying to get some sleep here' look.
09-01-2010, 07:30 AM
Good Morning Chicks! I, too, am up too early today. I'll be back later to catch up when I can.
Have a great on program day.
09-01-2010, 11:46 AM
Wish I could chat for a while but I'm was busy getting ready for the Hurricane Earl.
I got my shopping done, batteries, water, canned veggies and cold cuts just if the power goes out. I also, have the patio cleared.
SANDRA-The news media always over estimates the people coming to the Cape, now they saying it might be less now that Hurricane Earl is on the way. Oh I always make or have copy's made for my reg doctor. He has to know what specialist I go to.
SLOAN-I'm so happy myself it was CTS and not my neck.Even if I do have to have surgery on my wrist its going to be micro surgery.
JOJO-Thanks,sorry about your DH having to suffer with this CTS The nerve specialist told me,surgery on the wrist isn't bad anymore.
Have to start dinner, have a good day
09-01-2010, 12:25 PM
JoJo, I beat you to bed last night. 8:30. We slept till after 9 this AM. I'm guessing we're both tired from the heat and from healing. Anyway, I feel good today and am already watering via riding mower/ 35 gal tank and pecan trees.
Maryann, I am sending you wishes for a safe weekend.
Rhonda, I'm having Mexican food for lunch Friday for Karla's 40th bday. Sadly, there won't be any margaritas. We're eating in the elementary school library so her faculty can attend.
Got to go. My timer just went off and it's time to move water.
09-01-2010, 12:48 PM
Hey Chicks! Jim's doctor appointment went as expected. He needs an MRI on both shoulders and probably has bursitis in the one that hasn't had surgery yet. He got some heavy duty naproxen until the results from the MRI's are in. Then he'll either get a cortisone shot or surgery. He needs relief. I hope he gets it soon.
I'm trying to be on program but I feel like I want to stress eat. Not that it helps anything.
Sandra, I'm glad you and Curtis slept. You need your rest.
Mary Ann, carpal tunnel does sound better than your neck. I'm glad you're on the rode to recovery.
Jojo, back problems are no fun. I lost my Mom to Alzheimer's at 79. She was diagnosed at 67. I personally believe she gave up after my Dad died when she was only 58. Sad.
Rhonda, your celebration sounds moderate and rationale. Great for you!
Sloan, you sound so busy. Hope you have time to breathe over this long weekend.
Uh Oh....have we lost Nancy? Where are you Nancy? We're here to help if you need/want us to.
09-01-2010, 07:30 PM
Hey guys...I am still here !!!
Our internet has been out . A repairman came to fix it this am and then it went out again right after he left.. We called him and he asked if we had been paying our bill LOL...they seem to have it working again tonight...
I am doing good most of the time but I have crying spells over dumb stuff...
If I had girls I feel like they would call and tell me all about everything..
My boys call and just say "things are great" Its like pulling teeth to get them to talk on the phone.
Eating is not too bad--not too great...
09-01-2010, 08:20 PM
Nancy, I'm a girl, I left home, I did NOT tell my mother everything!! She would have been shocked
Maryann, now, don't have a hurricane watch party!
I went to bed at 10PM, slept until 6AM, went back to bed at 7AM and slept until 11:15AM!!! I'm not sleepy, by the way.
I saw Todd and leg pressed 450 pounds for 2 sets of 15 reps. That's the most I've ever done. WHEW.
I've eaten just under 1400 calories today with a good balance of carbs, fats and protein. Using fitday.com is helpful.
AND, we just had a fantastic thunderstorm that went on for about an hour, with full display of thunder and lightning.
09-01-2010, 08:29 PM
I ate ribs and a baked potato and a salad. Head hung in shame.
09-01-2010, 09:35 PM
Vickie, you needed it. Just think of what you could have done and used to do. You're all right. I hope Jim gets some relief soon. My shots have worked well, but I'm thinking I'll prob have to have one more. I hope Jim doesn't have to have an operation. If he does, will it be a replacement? Curtis has 2 artificial shoulders.
Rhonda, we got just a smidgen of your storm. It really cooled everything off, though.
Nancy, you're probably better off not knowing. (I know that doesn't help, but it's prob true.)
JoJo and Sloan, I'm waving at you.
Not much going on here. I've been wanting something sweet today but so far so good. Have agoo evening, everyone.
09-02-2010, 03:06 AM
Jojo, back problems are no fun. I lost my Mom to Alzheimer's at 79. She was diagnosed at 67. I personally believe she gave up after my Dad died when she was only 58. Sad.
It's funny you say that Vickie. Looking back with hindsight, the little pointers started with mum when she retired, she seemed to lose her identity.
She was widowed when I was 3 weeks old, I was an only child and back in 1950, we didn't have this 'sit back and live on welfare' culture we have today.
She went straight back nursing and through sheer hard work climbed the ladder to have a high powered job. She always looked so smart. Hair set every week, a well tailored business suit, shoes and handbag always matching... you know the sort of thing? Gradually she has descending into vascular dementia.
She has gone from a UK size 14 dress to a 22 because she gorges food, and wears horrible old canvas size UK 8 shoes because the weight has splayed her feet.
We pay to have her hair set every week and she goes straight back to her room and puts a wet comb through it. The home is wonderful and the staff magnificent but she is a very difficult resident. Her will is still one of iron...a hold over from her real personality. She is in adult nappies and to be honest, I feel that my real mum died years ago and this stranger is just living in her body.
She lived with us until she was just too dangerous to herself and others. Our daughter used to be her whole life and it was hard on her when her granny started ignoring her.
WELL! That's cheered everyone up hasn't it:) I am dreading weigh in on Saturday morning, I shall be happy if I remain what I was last week after the week I've had.
Busy day for us today. A neighbour has to go away for the day and we are going to pick her 3 kiddies up from school. It is a residential private one, and you can smell the money when you walk through the door... which looks like it has come off Westminster Abbey. We always feel like country hicks with straw in our hair when we go there!
09-02-2010, 07:21 AM
More thunderstorms at 5AM this morning, with 55 pounds of scared Husky in bed with us. I had to get up and stay up. She is now at my feet. I told her that she was not showing the brave traits that one expects from a sled dog, but she wasn't moved.
I feel really motivated this week and that's good. I hope it results in the scale moving down. I was up to 184 at some point last week!!!
09-02-2010, 07:54 AM
Good Morning Chicks!
JoJo, hindsight is DEFINITELY 20/20 with Alzheimer's or other related dementias. There were signs earlier that we missed. We wish we had encouraged her to stay more connected to life. Believe me, my oldest Sister and I are very vigilant with ourselves to make sure that we don't make the same mistakes. We are very worried it could happen to us. How sad for your Mom and your family. It so interesting to me that those of us who have experienced dementia with a family member all feel the same; that the family member is no longer inside their body. We, too, kept Mom home until she was no longer safe. People don't realize how scary it is to have an adult in the body with faculties of a 4 year old. How horribly sad for a Woman with such strength. Hideous disease. Well, you won't have time to think about it today once you have 3 kids in your house! I hope your weigh in will be better than you think.
Rhonda, how funny that Kyra is afraid of storms. You just never know. So far, Brodie has no fear. It's good that you are motivated. I'm not, but I'm trying to be.
Sandra, you're right and I appreciate your support. It's good that I recognize immediately that this is not how I want to behave. Before, it would cause a weeklong eat fest or maybe giving up for good.
Nancy, I'm glad you're still with us! What you are going through sounds normal to me. But.....I'm sure your Son is spreading his wings and things are probably never going to be the same. I told my Mom some stuff but not all. Rhonda is right. You probably don't want to hear it all.
Mary Ann, stay safe.
09-02-2010, 07:59 AM
Rhonda, that is your dog's name, right? After I reread my post, I wasn't sure that it looked right.
09-02-2010, 09:25 AM
And I hear you and Jojo on the dementia thing. My ex's mother has been institutionalized for a few years with it. Part of her is still there though. She's amazingly feisty and tough. My brother is also experiencing dementia now at 73 and we believe that my sister did also in her early 70's. I'm just NOT going there
09-02-2010, 04:44 PM
While we're on the subject, my mother and also her brother suffered from bipolar disorder. My mother did have her mind till the end, but her body faltered due to stroke. I don't want to go there either. As to bipolar? Sometimes I think I already have that. Oh, well, life goes on.
I guess what we all have to do is remember the good times and try to do everything we can to take care of ourselves. That's what our parents would want.
Rhonda, I struggled the last 2 days but feel more in control today. Tomorrow is Mexican food at school. Wish me strength.
Vickie, stress is a powerful thing, isn't it? I think you're doing a great job dealing.
JoJo, just remember that those folks at the school are there working. And they put their pants on one leg at a time just like all of us. Have fun with the kiddos today.
I'm enjoying our wet weather, too. I don't even have to water today. We got 1.8" of rain last night and this AM. Life is good.
09-02-2010, 06:38 PM
Went to my orthopedic doctor and he showed me the MRI results of my neck and told me the same about my carpal tunnel symptom just like the other doctor told me. I also told him about my little problem getting out of my bed I twisted my left knee and had to have a cortisone shot and if the pain doesn't go away in two week I have to go for another MRI. That's going to be 3 in a row. My insurance company is not going to like this.
I'm prepared for Hurricane Earl, so I should be ok, since living here we were never evacuate to the high school. The people with houses on or near the water will be. My friend Alice lives across the street from the harbor so I told her not to hesitate and get up to my house until the storm, is over. She can have the computer/guest room.
The only thing if I lose electricity I would be able to be on the computer over this weekend. Wish I had a portable TV as the deutsche bank championship golf tournament will be on this Fri Sat Sun & Monday and if I don't have any power I'll miss that important tournament.Going to miss posting to you gals also.
Have nice evening and hopefully we don't lose power than I can keep giving you an update on EARL.
09-02-2010, 07:29 PM
Maryann, I wish you the best of circumstances this weekend. Keep us posted if you can.
09-02-2010, 08:10 PM
Hey chickies, your stories of alzheimer's/dementia make me glad that my dad passed the way he did. When he "went out" we were talking about opera and the wonderful trips that he and my mom took to places like China, Russia, and Egypt. I do understand a little about what you all have gone through or are currently going through. My grandmother had dementia and finally had to be placed in a nursing home. I, too, had the feeling that my grandmother had left and someone else had taken over her body, so sad. I am doing pretty well with eating my frozen foods, but I have also had a couple of issues with "the wagon". I refuse to give up, though.
Maryann, do you have plenty of supplies? Hopefully Earl will stay out over the water and will not do too much damage. Stay safe!
Sandra and Rhonda, hope the rain is as soothing to you as it is to me. I love a rainy summer day!
Vickie, I wish I could wave a magic wand, and we both would have loads of motivation. :wizard: Did you feel that?
Nancy, one thing I did to cheer myself up when my DD first went to school was to fix up little goodie bags to send to her every now and then. I guess it made my feel like I was still "mothering" her. I hope you are feeling better.
Jojo, did you have fun with your little friends? I wanted to ask you about your sock knitting. Do you knit from the toe up or the top down? Also, what type of yarn do you use? I'd love to see some pctures. I've only made four pairs, so far.
I'm just being so lazy, and my kitchen is a mess!!! I really, really, really, don't want to clean it up :( :tantrum: BBL
09-02-2010, 11:26 PM
I don't want to clean my kitchen either!
I baked "fried" peach pies today but ate only one small one. I'm also baking cakes for an event tomorrow evening at a local art gallery where I take my lessons.
Even though it is really still hot, I'm getting into baking apple cake and honey cake. I also made a lemon poppyseed cake that did not rise much. I think that my baking powder needs replacing. I'm baking all this and am not very tempted. That's good, and I credit fitday.com with keeping me honest. Boy, do those carbs accumulate quickly. I'm eating at 1200-1500 calories a day. Now, if I don't lose a few pounds I'm tempted to hire a nutritionist. This is ridiculous.
I hope you're all having a good evening. (and that Jojo is sleeping soundly)
We had the grandchildren and DIL here this afternoon. Sweet, but tiring. I took a THREE hour nap!
09-03-2010, 02:26 AM
Sloanie I knit them from the top down on 4 needles. The pattern I use is handed down from my great grandmother.
Tejas Did you have another visit from the husky last night? Neighbours of ours had one and when they moved, my husband said I missed the dog more than them. He was a true beauty.
Beachbum Has Earl hit you hard? The pictures we are getting over here are frightening.
The children in the UK go back to school next Monday. The teachers who live in our road look more miserable about the thought than the kids!
I'm not expecting much of a result on WI tomorrow. I am looking towards next week and having a good loss.
09-03-2010, 10:22 AM
Good morning ladies,
I'm reporting my baseline weigh-in of 160.2. I would be over the moon to lose 5 lbs. this month, but I know how slowly I lose weight -- it is like watching paint dry.
I haven't had the time to keep up with everyone's comings and goings this week but I can see this is a spirited group! Anyone dealing with Earl, you're in my thoughts. I live in S. Florida and have seen my share of hurricanes.
Have a nice long weekend ladies!
09-03-2010, 10:42 AM
Good Morning Chicks! I'm tired today but have errands to run. I think I'll start out slowly and pick up speed. I ate too much again last night at our date night out dinner. It was all healthy, but way too much. I MUST get a grip.
I'll be back later to catch up. We had BAD storms last night but we needed the rain desperately.
09-03-2010, 11:16 AM
Good Morning Ladies:)
We have a very gray & cloudy day, expecting Hurricane Earl some time this evening but the rains are expected by3 PM.They now saying that Earl is going to weaken by the time it comes up here,100 miles off of Nantucket will be hit hard MV and the inner Cape will be spared.Wind[60MPH] & rain,so I'm batting the hatches, and going to hang and rest.
I heard on the radio that Electricians from the mid west are coming in to help our NStar Electric company to restore our power as fast as possible. Going to have lots of trees down,as we had not rain since June and the tree trunks are very dry and could split or come down like a tooth pick. TG I don't have any tree around my house. The only woods we have are in the back of the complex.
Went out to the beach to get a few boulders to put over the covered mulch that was delivered the other day but I couldn't find any. On the way home I got caught into a down pour and had to put the windshield wipers on full blast.
Now it stopped but I not heading out for anything else. The mulch will hopeful stay put and not blow all over & make a mess on the common grounds.
THEY JUST ANNOUNCED THAT HURRICANE EARL WAS DOWNGRADED TO A 1 CATEGORY[TROPICAL STORM],BUT IT STILL ON THE SAME TRACK
SLOANE-Yes I all prepared,I have my canned foods & water just in case the power goes out,and have my flashlights, batteries and all my patio furniture downstairs, I also have my car filled with gas.
JOJO-We haven't gotten the storm yet its suppose to be here tonight are 7PM until 2 AM in the morning. We getting the rains off & on right now.It does look scary, but we will muster though as we hardy people up here on the north east.
POLLY-We getting the wrath of Earl some time tonight we haven't had a hurricane since BOB in 1991,but we'll survive. I know what you mean "like watching paint dry" I have been there,I know have to watch my carbs, buts its so hard to do.
Have a nice day going to rest my hand & knee
09-03-2010, 03:03 PM
Good mornng, I'm on my way to the birthday party. Well, I was when I typed this aound 10:30. Actually, I'm already home from the party. We had a good time. My dil was surprised. This was her #40. I stayed OP.
Sloan, watch out for that wagon. I honestly think you're doing great. Just keep up the good work. Having those CORE meals ready is a good plan.
Polly, I love your attitude. I'd be over the moon, too, if I released 5 #'s. You make me smile.
Maryann, please stay safe. I wish you the best of everything---just stay safe.
Rhonda, fried peach pies sound awesome. I am amazed you just had one small one. I don't think I could have done that.
JoJo, I think our bodies have to level out every now and then. You'll most likly have your good loss next week if you don't tomorrow.
Vickie, every time I see your 51.8 pounds down in your signature, it makes me smile. I am very happy for you.
My wi is Tuesday. I don't know if I'll have a loss or not. Time will tell. I have had mostly "good" days but a few "fat" ones.
09-03-2010, 06:22 PM
OK, here's a tip from the gym rats: NO MORE than 30 grams of fat a day. NO MORE, period. AND, are you ready: no carbs after 3 PM. What? I really don't think it matters when you eat, but I'm going to try the less than 30 grams of fat and see what happens for me. I've been able to stick to 12-1500 calories so far this week.
I got nauseated during my strength training today and had to stop. I had eaten 4 ounces of chicken about 1 1/2 hours before the workout and I felt really bad. The chicken was OK, but my body wanted carbs. SO, Torture Todd said toast and PB 45 minutes before the workout....and, he said that the body really doesn't use protein during the workout; it's all carbs. I should have known that I guess.
I'm off to a gathering tonight at the art gallery and I've made such a beautiful angel food cake. I might have a bite of it later.
I hope you're all doing well.
Maryann, hang on! Kyra wouldn't like to be there at all.
09-03-2010, 09:18 PM
Toast and PB sound good to me. I like Todd.
I just had a plate of cantaloupe. It was delicious. I have a cookbook ordered from Amazon. Saw it advertised on "The Doctors" earlier this week. It's supposed to have 150 dishes 350 cal or less.
09-03-2010, 11:10 PM
ooh, let us know how that cookbook is.
Did you hear that the frozen entrees from various manufacturers do not necessarily have the amount of calories they say they do. That's right, the calories you see on the package may or may not be in the food. The manufactures are allowed a wide margin for any individual package, they only have to have an "average."
09-04-2010, 03:31 AM
I have no idea how I did it, but I'm another 2lbs down this week. I think I've been ever so lucky, what with a barby and a girl's night out to contend with.
Ooooh Tejas An angel food cake... I have to stop now and wipe the dribble off my keyboard.
Ontarget Thanks for the support. I was so expecting to stall or worse, gain this week.
Beachbum Are you still with us love? Or clinging to a flagpole in the next state? Any damage to your home? We've been following the news about Earl on the TV. Even downgraded it sounded pretty grim.
09-04-2010, 09:40 AM
Yes, Maryann, let us know how you are :listen:
Congratulations Jojo. I'm envious!
I'm watching the birds gobble up food in the backyard, my normal morning routine. It's cooler today and they were a little slow waking up, and the blue jays are a little more cantankerous than usual for some reason.
All is well here, and I've had my PB and toast. Today, I'm really going to focus on keeping the fat to below 30 grams. I'll let you know how that goes. I should be going to a spin class or at least aquafit this morning, but I don't seem to be moving too quickly.
09-04-2010, 02:16 PM
EARL IS GONE!!!!! EARL IS GONE!!! but left temps in the 70's no damage around me all the stuff on the patio didn't blow away.Going to take a walk along the beach some time this morning.
My friend at the last minute said she wanted to stay, she even walked the beach even as late as yesterday afternoon. She the free spirited one,I wouldn't go down when the predicting that it was around 3 PM but than by the time it really reaches us at 11PM is downgraded to a category 1
I'm happy that Earl is gone,as it would have been my first hurricane alone, and it was frightening, but now that all over I can breath again.
Walked along the beach, for 30 mins ,and than sat on one of those park benches and watched the white caps on the waves moving in. The winds are still blowing, and I got my windows & front & sliding doors opened to get the fresh air into the house.
Thanks for being there for me,being able again to see your post made me feel that you really cared about the approaching storm & me.,Thanks again.
Tomorrow my friend Mary and I are going to see Nanny McPhee,Returns. After that we are heading down to our local pizza parlor.
Monday I'm going to put the BBQ grill for Labor Day and I thinking of either BBQ spare ribs/baked beans are the old burger, hot dog & fries.
Just in time to get to the tv and put the deucshe bank golf tournament. I think they start every over the weekend than they do on the golf channel.
With all this happening around me I forgot to tell you I lost .5 at this mornings W-I. Looks like I'm out of the 170's and hope this time for good.
See you guys some time tomorrow after brunch and before the movies.
09-04-2010, 02:20 PM
Maryann: glad to hear that you are safe and can enjoy watching your golf tournament instead of waiting for the power to be turned back on!
I went to aquafit after all. All is with me, and I hope it is with all of you.
09-04-2010, 03:02 PM
Hey chickies! We are having cool weather today, and it is awesome! My DS and I did some back to school shopping for his art class, and I bought all of the paint that I need for my painting class. We are home now, and I am being lazy. I need to do some house work, but my head is in vacation mode 'cause of the Labor day weekend. Oh well, it will get done eventually.
Maryann, I'm so glad you are okay! Enjoy your time with your friend tomorrow!
GTG try to get motivated. I'll check in later.
09-04-2010, 05:44 PM
I hate to be the "debbie downer " poster but...
I was already blue this week and this morning Robin found my rabbit
dead in his pen. Something killed him and tried to remove him through the
wires of his pen... I have had other rabbits but this fella (Dexter) had a special place in my heart... I just hate he had to suffer through something like that.
Right now I feel like I never want more pets ...My wonderful dog is very close to having to be put to sleep ... I am sure after some time to get over it all, a puppy will be a good thing but right now the heartache doesn't seem worth it...
09-04-2010, 06:52 PM
Oh Nancy, I'm so sorry! What can we do? You know we are here, and you can post whatever you need to. Hang in there
09-04-2010, 06:59 PM
Oh NO, Nancy. I'm so sorry. I know how you feel about no more pets. You might change your mind, but I KNOW the feeling.
When I had to have Anna euthanized in '08 and Jake died in '09 I was just sure I couldn't do it again. And, yet, here we are with 'ole Kyra. And, I'd bet that even she won't be the last one.
Post away, Nancy, just don't eat your grief!
09-05-2010, 03:18 AM
So glad you are OK Beachbum. Hubby and I have been thinking about you and watching Earl's progress.
Oh Nancy, I am so sorry. What a horrid shock.
Sloanie. In the UK a ‘Sloanie’ is also known as a Sloane Ranger. These are rich girls, from super rich or aristocratic families who play at making a living in London (nanny, is a favourite one) and are just marking time until they find someone equally rich to marry. They tend to have apartments in Sloane Square, an affluent part of Chelsea. The most famous Sloane Ranger was Diana Princess of Wales.
09-05-2010, 11:45 AM
Jojo, thanks for the "Sloanie" info. My screen name is Sloanie because that's what my cousins called me when I was younger. My first name is Sloan which was my grandmother's "maiden name". When I was in London 35 years ago, I met a bank teller whose last name was Sloane, and we decided that we were probably related. I know that my grandmother's family came to the US from England, but that's all I know. I can't wait to share your story with my mom. I think I'll pretend that Sloane Square is named after my long lost family :)
Nancy, are you okay?
Have a great day today, y'all! Oh yes, I stayed op all day yesterday :carrot:
09-05-2010, 11:53 AM
Just wanted to let you know that I going got to the movies in 15 mins with my friend Mary and I won't be back until late this afternoon.
Won't even believe a storm like EARL was here, no damage anywhere with the sun shinning and the cool ocean breezes blowing what more can you expect. I guess Labor Day weekend is going to fine after all.
After taking that sleeping pill the night of the storm gave me a terrible headache the next morning feeling droggy and other symptoms will use the pill sparingly.
Have a nice day,See you guys in the morning.
09-05-2010, 12:10 PM
Hi, Chickies. I can't believe I didn't get here yesterday. I thought I had. Guess I'm suffering from old-timers'.
Maryann, I am so glad Earl is gone. I was worried about you. You had to be terrified--but you showed us the brave woman you are.
JoJo, congratulations on losing this week. You are ding fantastically.
Rhonda, I will let ya'll know about the cookbook asap. I'm guessing it'll arrive Tuesday. I'm watching hummingbirds right now. However, ou bird population is down today.
Nancy, how sad about your bunny. Do you think it was a stray cat? We've had one around here that's taken out our wild rabbits and 2 of our 3 squirrels. Sad. Yours has to be sadder since your bunny was a pet. I'm sorry this happened.
I am thinking of weighing in the morning instead of Tuesday. My goal is to weigh every 30 days. Tomorrow is day 90. I think I'll wi before day 30 is over instead of waiting. (Am I making sense?)
Sloan, you rich chickie you. I am impressed. That is very interesting about the history of Sloanie. Thank you JoJo for sharing.
We are waiting a few more minutes before going to church. They were doing some inside painting yesterday and we are avoiding the fumes.
Have a super Sunday, everyone. I'll catch you later.
09-05-2010, 05:37 PM
Whoa!! Back to back. I get some kind of prize. We had a great sermon and wonderful fellowship afterwards. Later my gf came out and we flung a few arrows. Life is good.
I hope you're all having a terrific Sunday.
09-06-2010, 02:05 AM
Well, it's 7am on a wet, cold, grey Monday morning. There's no getting away from it, I shall have to think about getting the winter clothes out and putting the summer ones away. At least this year I won't get that sinking feeling when nothing fits.
We may get a warm spell later on, St Luke's little summer and happens around the middle of October here, Finger's crossed
Sloanie.. why not adopt Sloane Square? If you dug deep enough you'd find a family connection and the Sloane family crest is quite a posh one:smug:
Have a good one everybody. We are off to the DIY store this morning
