Unhappy Got bad news from the doctor need to vent.

First of all I am sorry if it does not fal in the WLS category but since I had wls a few months ago and it is somehow relevant I post it here.

As I said above I had my sleeve a few months ago and I had my blood test done a few weeks ago. Apart from low sugar and iron I believed nothing was wrong with me until my doctor called today and announce that I developed hypothyroidism after the operation.

WTF!!!

I am just so mad. I am mad because it is like a sign telling me you are going to be fat no matter what you do. I am mad because now I am worried that I had a surgery and it will lead to nothing. I am even mad at myself for this happening to me. I don't know why I am so mad and disappointed but I wish once, just once I had to deal with weight loss without a problem coming my way. Sheesh is it too much to ask?

I haven't had WLS but I do have hypothyroid (Hashimotos), once I was put on medication I've had no problems losing weight other than me not sticking to a diet. You can see from my ticker that I lost 40 lbs down from my highest weight of 265. I'm back doing WW again and have lost 8 lbs in a week and a half.

Try not to be so discouraged, being diagnosed with hypothyroid is not a "fat sentence". I would think if anything that once you are on meds it would increase the amount that you are able to lose because your thyroid levels will be back within a normal range.

I have Hashimoto's, too, and it certainly hasn't kep me from losing weight. Take your medication as prescribed and follow your healthy eating plan and exercise is a must and you won't have a problem.

I have hypothyroid disease also, and a Lapband and I have no trouble in losing weight if I eat right.

Good luck.

Me too! have had it for years....WLS is a tool to help, it may have taken me longer then some to lose the weight, but I stuck to my guns and lost it.

No need to continue to be angry, takes too much energy. Focus on getting the protein, water and exercise in...don't use this to punish yourself....love your way through this, its important.

Along with what everyone else is saying - hypothyroidism is treatable! It's a good thing your doctor discovered it so that it can be taken care of. This is something you could have developed without the surgery - so, try not to think of it as something you got because you had the surgery.
