Hi Turtles,
I started this thread because our last one was running long. Go back and read #230 if you haven't had a chance because Lin had some interesting things to say and I posted my new lowest weight. :goodscale:

Lin- Good to hear your mom is out of the hospital. Sorry to hear you are dealing with so much stress right now.

Judy - Yay on the 1.2 pounds lost! You are so close to 180's. I am proud of you.

There are some disadvantages to checking my weight every morning but i am keeping on keepin on.

05-13-2010, 09:59 AM
Cherry, you are down seven pounds!!!!! That's wonderful!. Last time I checked you tracker I noticed you were down five pounds. Weigh to go!
:bravo: :balloons:

I'm planning on having a good day. I'm hoping to get on the boardwalk today although it's supposed to rain.

Have a great day, everyone and keep on keepin' on.

Hi Guys,
Pretty good weekend as far as food, but LIttle grandson broke his arm. I'm going to babysit tomorrow because he's not going to school. I'll have to go prepared with food again to keep on track. Haven't exercised as much as I'd like. It's tricky being good. LOL.

Morning, turtles:

Judy - sorry to hear about your grandson, hope he has a speedy recovery.
Hope you can stay on track & keep focussed & you are so right - it is hard being good all the time.

I have been super busy up here. Was down 1.75# Wed night, so was very happy with that. Did more yardwork, then had a Jack & Jill Sat night & my gf came for dinner last night which was nice. In between got my trailer opened up & ready to go for another season. But was too wet to cut the grass, so that will hopefully be later in the week. My dd is going up there with friends for the upcoming long weekend & will stay at the house & get more yard work done there & then should be on top of things in both places.

Hope you all have a great week!

05-17-2010, 06:56 PM
Hi Turtles,
Bandit!!!! Weigh to go! What a great weight loss. :goodscale: :bravo: :balloons: :carrot: :dancer:
That's a wonderful accomplishment. It's fun hearing how you've got the trailer set up and ready for another season. Wow-===that time flew.

I feel like this is the year for me to lose a big chunk of weight. I'd love to lose 8# between now and July 4th., so that's my goal. I've got to get on the :tread: right now and then I'll have my dinner. My food could have been better today-----but I didn't binge and now I'm going to write it down to see what I have left in points for dinner.

Keep on keepin' on, folks.

Bandit- 1.75 down, that is great! Do you do a lot of traveling?

Judy- Hope your grandson is doing better. Good to hear you have a plan to stay on points. Sounds like a good goal you set for 8 pounds.

weigh in this morning. My husband and i really overate a lot more than we should have, but tried to make up for it some on other days. Considering we did fairly well. We are both down 1 pound. Hoping for a better loss this next week.
1.) Really need to up the water
2.) Try to work around the emotional eating (find other ways to deal with emotions)

05-18-2010, 12:48 PM
Hi everyone:

Judy/Cherry - thanks for the congrats. Always nice to have support.

Cherry - I travel when I can, usually take some kind of trip mid-winter to get out of the cold up here. My trailer is only 1/2 hour from home but still fun to get away most weekends from May til Oct. We swim, have campfires and just try to relax when we are there.

Going to movies tonight with my ladies group to see Letters from Juliette - so will probably have popcorn for dinner, so just brought salad for lunch & no 3 pm snack.

Have a good one!

05-18-2010, 05:01 PM
Cherry :goodscale: You're cooking on all burners! Weigh to go! ;bravo: :balloons: That's a great weight loss and you're going in the right direction!!!

Bandit, good planning for tonight with the movies. Sounds like fun. I'll hear later today how the appointment went with the orthopedist for my grandson.

Yesterday wasn't perfect, but I regrouped, counted out my points, and had a very light dinner that only put me over by 1 point. Pretty good, I'll say.

Tomorrow is WI and I've got my fingers crossed. Today has been great, but I didn't get to the boardwalk because of the rain. Will try to get on :tread:

Good luck everyone.

Hi Turtles,
I'm not a happy camper today. I am up .8# after having a very decent week. I've lost 3.2# this month so that's a good thing. I was hoping to break 190# today, but that didn't happen. Next week. As I checked my tracker to see what had happened, I saw that I had less exercise than usual (rain here) and I ate 30 of my 35 points-----where I usually don't eat any of them. That made a difference this week, so I have to make sure not to do that next week.

Wishing you all well. :goodscale: to all of us. Tell us about something non-scale that made you feel good. For me, I got into a pair of size 16 pants ordered online from jcPenney. Not a plus size or anything..... Yay.

Hi turtles:

Judy, too bad about your gain but before you know it, it will be gone.

I was up 1# myself this week - guess the movie popcorn Tues night & chinese for lunch yesterday did me in.

And this weekend it is a long weekend with 2 bbq already planned with friends.
So will really have to make good choices

Have a great day

05-20-2010, 05:06 PM
Bandit, you're so wise. Here's to making good choices! :balloons: :bravo:

We can do this.

Judy!! LOOK at you, lady!! :carrot: You are such an inspiration to me right now! Wow! You knocked off the weight you gained back, plus some more! Wow, wow, wow!! Wish you could see my face right now. What do you think is making the difference for you now?

Bandit, I'm always so jealous of your trips to the country. What a perfect summer thing to do!

Cherry, good to see you doing so well, too!

Lin, I'm so sorry about this stressful time with your mom. I know it's hard, really hard. We're entering into that phase with our parents now, too; Pop was in the hospital last week for his heart. Somehow we just have to do our best, given the circumstances, and take care of ourselves, too -- without using food to do it. {{HUGS}}

My eating has been mixed, exercise not so much. I'm still in the same size clothing, but some of it is tight -- and you know I hate tight clothes! Weight is pretty much holding right now. Not where I want to be by any means, but it could be worse. My goal at the VERY least is to not let it get worse! I'm aiming for baggy britches by July. :)

I find I do eat OP for the most part, then will eat one or two extra things here and there. Those add up and keep me from losing. So not heavy overeating, but not eating as little as I need to -- or moving as much as I need to!

Am enjoying working on the second gig a day or two a week; makes a nice change.

Well, must go out and enjoy this lovely day -- 80 degrees! Must get in some porch time before dark.

05-21-2010, 12:37 PM
Hi turtles:

Nice to see you all chiming in when you get a chance.

Lauren - got a kick out of your "baggy britches" goal - think we can all use that to strive for.

OK ladies - I need some suggestions for bbq appetizer & side dishes. BBQ season has kicked in and always looking for something yummy to take.

05-21-2010, 04:00 PM
Lauren, here I am complaining about putting back .8# and you helped me to put it in perspective. What am I doing now that I wasn't doing? Well, I am taking to heart that I needed to eat less and move more! For me that means staying at my points for the day (no eating 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter just before bedtime and "forgetting" to count them in) and the other thing is moving more----much more. I stepped up my :tread: activity from 1/2hour to 1hour which means I'm walking three miles. I try to do that 5-6 days a week. I am also using the easy WW DVD that includes a 20min. toning routine which is not too strenuous for me and I moved from 3# weights to 5#. In a perfect world, I'd do that tape 3x week and walk 5-7 times a week. I haven't achieved that yet, but this is what will shake up my weight.

Baggy clothes is a great goal. I'd like to be down 8# by July 4th and I know I can do it, but I can't backslide and reach that goal. I'm sorry your clothes are a bit tight (yep, we know how you hate tight clothes) but you are working on this and you'll get the situation righted. I am really wallowing in your weight loss journey all the way from your photo as a bride, through the Italian shoes in the gondola, to now. I know you!!! :bravo: :balloons: It's tough with your parents, but I hope it is nicer having them here and being able to offer some assistance to them.

Bandit, here's a hot appetizer that I think is great. Hope you like it. You and I often like the same foods, so here goes. (Also, would you consider bringing a veggie pie to a cook-out? Just a thought)

WW Appetizer
1/2c. blue cheese crumble
1 pkg. FF cream cheese
1/2c FF sour cream
1 cup cooked and chopped chicken
1/4c. Frank's hot sauce
MIx and Bake in 350 oven for 20 min. Serve w/ celery (The beauty of this is it's like Buffalo Wings without the points. (I'll look up points in a minute) Points 2 for each of 10 servings. (21 points in total) Not bad!

Creamy roasted pepper dip
6 oz. ff sour cream
1 (7oz) jar roasted red peppers, drained
4 oz. ff cream cheese
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 T. fresh basil leaves
1/2t. dried oregano leaves

Blend all ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Pour into bowl and chill before serving.
Makes 2 cups, 16 servings zero points/serving

Crudites w/ Garlicky white bean dip

1T. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
15 1/2 oz can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
juice from 1/2 med. lemon
1-2T. water
salt and pepper to taste
paprika or chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Crudites--any raw veggies

Prepare dip----heat olive oil in small saucepan and saute garlic, stirring constantly until garlic just begins to turn golden 102minutes. remove from pan and cool.

in food processor, comgin garlic-olive oil mix, beans and lemon juice. Process until smooth, slowly adding 1-2T. easter to obtain a thick yet creamy consistency. Season to taste

Put in pretty bowl and garnish w/ paprika or chopped parsley.
Number of servings: 4
Points per serving: 2

Okay, gotta run, but thought some of these ideas might work. :chef: Also, I always have cooked shrimp in my freezer and I make an easy cocktail sauce with horseradish and ketchup. Voila! I'm done and it's very few points.

Cherry, how are you doing?

Newyearnewme, what are you doing this weekend?

Lin, :goodvibes: with all you're doing.

I  you guys!! Keep the support coming and keep on keepin' on!

Judy - thank you so much for the recipes, will definately be trying these over summer season, they sound sooooooooo delish and simple, love that!

Just heading out to do yard work at home before it rains.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

05-22-2010, 03:55 PM
You're welcome, Bandit. I am going to pick up some of the items too to have on hand. Both my girls are working very hard at losing weight and it's starting to show. Yay! :goodscale:

When my dh and I went to my dd's home yesterday, I brought some filet mignons I had bought on sale at Omaha's Steak store. Then I bought some potato wedges I had cooked and frozen, a big tossed salad, a fruit salad, some vitatop muffins, and a pkg. of organic green beans. My dh grilled and I put together the rest of the dinner. It was delish and point friendly. I plan on doing similar things over the summer. When I find an especially good recipe, I'll post it here and your Turtles do the same. Okay? I love easy to prepare, low point, and delicious foods.

Have had another good day. Made an egg salad sandwich w/ tomato and lettuce on a Bagel Thin by Arnold's. My egg salad was one egg, one eggwhite, mustard and a tiny bit of reduced fat mayo. Yummy and the mustard helped.

Just finished mowing the lawn. I'm having a restful and kind of lazy day. I think I need it.
Have a great weekend, everyone!!!! :goodvibes: :grouphug:

Weigh in this morning. I am down from 244.2 to 241.2 that is down 3 pounds. It is good that everyone seems to be doing well. I didnt get to sleep till late last night and am just feeling off this morning. Hopefully it wont throw off my eating.

Hi turtles:

Cherry - congrats on such a fabulous weight loss this week. You must be doing somthing right - keep it going. Great job!!!

Judy - you always seem to be so busy with family things, which is really nice.
Planning ahead is key, so good for you for getting ahead of things with your menus. Thats what we all need to do to succeed.

Pretty hot up here over the weekend which was nice - got lots of yard work done & my lawn furniture all out & the trailer is now completely up & running & the grass is even cut.

Grand finale of Biggest Loser tonight, so looking foward to that. Those people have lost soooooooooo much weight, they seem actually like different people. Right now I am hoping for Ashley (pink team) to win it all and Daris (if he got sent home) to be the at home winner. But really they all deserve to win.

Have a roast all cooked for tonight and will also have turnip, peas (tiny bit of
gravy) for my supper.

Hope you all have a great week.

05-25-2010, 09:13 PM
Cherry, you're doing great! :goodvibes: :goodscale: :bravo:
Fabulous weight loss. Keep up the good work.

Wow Bandit, you got so much done this weekend. Sounds all good. I'm working at my backyard a bit at a time, but since we're having the kids in this weekend, I better step it up a bit. LOL Roast sounds yummy. Keep on planning and preparing. It's our best bet to get where we want to be!
Gotta run---dh's calling.

Hi Turtles,
Another WW WI and disappointment. I was up a tiny .2#, but it's still heading in the wrong direction. I need to monitor my bread intake. I'm going to sit down with my books and plan my meals. What I have been doing is having all sorts of food available and eating what sounded good (and easy to make) at that moment. That's not working, so I'm heading into our Book One to get back to basics. I can do this. My exercise is great. Now I want to make sure I'm not wasting weeks by eating too much bread, etc.

Good luck and :goodvibes: to us all !

05-28-2010, 11:14 AM
Hi Turtles,
:goodvibes: and :grouphug: to us all! We can do this! We are doing this!
For this week, I am giving WW's my best shot. I am exercising and I am monitoring my eating very well. For a long time now I knew I was eating too much bread for my body. I always do better with fewer carbs and more protein. However, I just didnt' want to do that. This week I am committed to eating one serving of bread a day and I am allowing myself a VitaTop item once a day. This should break my plateau. No sense in doing "most" of what works instead of "all" that works. After all, I've been maintaining for a long time now. Gotta shake things up!

Does anyone have plans for the weekend? We're having a family BBQ here. Here's a potato salad recipe you might like:

10oz. small red potatoes, boiled until tender and cut into half inch cubes
1/4c. chopped celery
1/4c. chopped roasted red bell pepper
1/4c. nonfat mayo
1/4c nonfat sour cream
1 1/2T nonfat chicken broth or skim milk
2T. dried parsley
1t. dried dillweed
1/4t. freshly ground black pepper.
Combine all ingredients and chill before serving.
Serves 4
1 point per serving
(Just a note---I don't think you need anywhere near the amt. of mayo and sour cream---) Judy

Okay everybody----chime in when you can. I know we're all busy. Keep on keepin' on!

Hi turtles

Judy - thanks for the recipe, sounds like a good summertime dish.

I was down .25# at my meeting last Wed & then headed out to TOPS conference last Thurs/Fri/Sat - which was great. Nice to see so many people get awards & listen to speakers. Very inspiring/emotional and hopefully will help me get/stay on track. I spoke with a few people who lost alot of weight & have also kept it off & of course, had to ask how they did it. Same answer: Set a goal and work towards it daily with small changes and rewards for victories along the way.

So this week, my goal is: Journal faithfully, stay within my points and get in some exercise.

How about you? What are you going to do this week to see some positive results at the scale?

05-31-2010, 05:10 PM
:goodscale: to Bandit! :bravo: A loss is a step in the right direction! Yay!

Good advice from the big winners at TOPS.

For this week, I will walk at least 1 1/2miles per day.
I will track faithfully (remembering to write down each BLT.
I will think of all the Turtles and wish them well in this journey.

Part of me didnt want to post this morning. Weigh in did not go well and it was no ones fault but my own. I have been giving into cravings and emotional eating. It doesnt help that it is T.O.M. so maybe that is part of the gain. I am up +2.4. Seems about every three weeks so far i have had about a 2 pound gain. This next week i am going to be out of town all week for a convention with my hubby and all three little ones. I am worried about the gain from eating out so much. Anyway good to see everyone else keeping on track. I may not get to post again till Monday or Tuesday.

06-01-2010, 05:16 PM
A lot of us over the years found that TOM brought on added weight. Do the best you can and next week you can be lower. You're doing great. Look at the tracker. 9# down is wonderful. Now, as far as being away from the house at the convention, what snacks are you bringing to keep the munchies at bay? Do you have some safe meals to eat? Let us know what you're thinking.

I'm doing fine. Yesterday was higher points than I wanted but today has been good. i'm dealing with hives again. Ugh-----but they will leave and I'll be back to normal.

06-01-2010, 06:03 PM
Hi turtles:

Cherry - just keep at it and as Judy said, next week will be different.
I know how you feel being up at the scale - really bugs me, even if I know why. But don't give up - just try & plan ahead for your upcoming convention.

I was away as well last week & overdid it. But, I did take a couple of wraps with me & a banana, peanut butter & made that for one of my meals. Also, took some cherries & oranges and my crystal light for my water. Little things like that can help. But, also enjoy yourself with your family and just make the best choices each meal & if you splurge, try better next meal.

Judy - Good you are back on track today. Keep it up!

I have leftover beef stirfry for my dinner tonight, with some chicken.
Really helps me to have things already in my fridge, rather than standing there & finding nothing and tempted to just get fast-food.

Jillian from Biggest Loser has a new show starting tonight, so am planning on watching that.

Have a good evening.

06-03-2010, 03:28 PM
Beef Stirfry sounds yummy, Bandit. Did you enjoy the Jillian show?

I went to my meeting yesterday, but I didn't weigh in. I would have been up and that's just not fun. Saw my friends, get rededicated and am doing fine.

Good luck to us all!

Hi All! It has been ages since I have stopped by here to see how everyone is doing and I am sorry about that... life got in the way for a while I guess... LOL.

While being laidoff I gained lots of my weight back and I tried to get back on track with weight watchers a few different times... it just does not click for me right now. So, I bought a couple of The Biggest Loser books and have started on that plan... not too hard really and not that far off from WW but at least it is a change. So far so good but this is my first week :)

In January I was offered a consulting job, it is only for 6 months so it is almost over with but at least I have been working and it helps.

How is everyone else doing?

06-04-2010, 07:55 AM
Hi Turtles,
Princess, when I saw your name I was soooooo happy. It's great to hear from you. It's so easy to gain weight back, especially when dealing with so many stressors as you have been. It's great that you found something new to knock off weight! Change is good when it comes to getting back on a losing track! Glad you've been working all this time and I've got my fingers crossed for you to find something else soon. :welcome3: back. Great hearing from you and seeing your cheery photo!

I'm doing okay. I've plateaued since early December and I'm not at all happy about that. The good thing is I haven't gained much, the not so good thing is that I've stymied my weight loss at around 192# or so and I've got a lot to lose. The new thing that I'm trying is tracking on my iPod. My dd set me up with the iPod I received for Christmas-----not that I procrastinate or anything---and I like it. I'm tracking WW points and activity points on it and it's a fun gimmick for now. The tough thing that happened to me is that I have hives. They allow my body to hold onto fluids and that's not fun. I'm trying to be level-headed about this and I keep on saying that they don't have to last for months this time. Everything else is good. My dh and I are spending more time together and we often walk on the boardwalk near our local beach for 1 1/2miles and that's a great time for us to talk and have a nice time together. So glad you're back! And good luck for :goodscale:

What are everyone's plans for the weekend? We're celebrating my dd's :hb: here. She's strong into WW's right now, so I'm planning a good heart healthy dinner. The guys are having pizza. My other dd and I are having rotisserie chicken---It'll be easy to assemble and it'll still feel like a celebration.

Okay=---gotta run. :goodvibes: to all of us!!!!

Morning all and Happy Friday to everyone!

Judy: It is great to be back here and seeing everyone again. Hives? Wow, that has to be painful! I am so sorry that you are going thru that! Do you know what causes them? Your weight loss has been awesome! You should be extremely proud of yourself! congrats...

Bandit: How you are you doing? It is nice to put a face to your name with the addition of your avitar picture! I am thinking about joinging TOPS since the cost is so much lower than WW and it would still give me the accountability of a weekly weigh in... does it matter which diet plan you follow to be a member of their group?

Lots of drama and stress for me over the last year but it is better left in the past so I will not bore you with the details. Still having back/neck issues but they are down to a dull roar so I move forward just at a slower pace. :D I have started walking again, boy it is hard to get back into that habit! Other exercises I have to take a step at a time and make sure it does not cause a flare up but I will be adding them in as of this weekend. Going to a local AAA baseball game tonight, the Indianapolis Indians - it is my consulting companies summer picnic. I will most likely pass on the food and just fill up on water since it is not plan friendly by any means... will eat when I get home but since it is down town I will get lots of walking in since you normally have to park far away and walk to the ball park.

Talk soon and have a great weekend!

06-04-2010, 05:23 PM
Judy, hives! Bummer. Sounds like you've had them periodically? Any idea what brings them on? Seems like an allergist should be able to help you there. I am in AWE of your exercise regime. WOW. :carrot: This is the area where I have the most difficulty staying consistent.

Princess, I'm sorry things have been so stressful and VERY glad to see you here again. We can all relate. I am also self-employed, and it can get a bit nail-bitey when you're not sure where your next gig will be. Hope you have one lined up soon. I'm currently working at 2 places (4 days a week at one, 1 day a week at the other), partly to keep my bases covered in case one goes belly up. What do you do?

Bandit, I like how you plan ahead. Very smart! I'm still jealous of you hanging out at your trailer in the country. We'll be in Canada this weekend, BTW, hanging out with MIL. I'm looking forward to sitting on her balcony and watching the ships go by, weather permitting. I also love to go to Shoppers Drug Mart! :D We don't have those.

Cherry, hormones are horrible! Mine are all over the place right now (peri-menopause) and have been for a couple of years now. I cannot WAIT to be past all this. Hope you're doing better.

Let's see ... eating has been up and down; weight is hanging in there at about the same place. One pair of jeans is baggier for some reason; I'm not complaining. The tooth is doing much better; I may get to avoid that roooo ... rooo ... procedure after all. I'll phase off the meds next week and see how it goes. Hey, maybe I'll drop a water pound or two!

Temps here are great; in the upper 70s. I'm taking advantage of the summer by taking long weekends as often as possible. I just LOVE them. I have a bunch of 4-day weeks coming up, which is very exciting.

Parents are doing OK. Pop found a lump on his neck, which is worrisome (he finished chemo for lymphoma last summer). We're hoping for the best. He should see his internist today. We planted a big garden for them for my mom's birthday last week; she was thrilled (and DH, who did all the work, was exhausted but happy with the results). Now their condo looks wonderful. There are still a few things that need doing, but nothing pressing.

That's all my news for now. Oh -- had a wildlife encounter yesterday on my way to work. I was driving on my usual country road, and I saw this HUGE turtle in the middle of the road. I didn't know they came that big in Michigan. Cars were driving right over it (between their tires); it was completely frozen. So I pulled over, picked it up, and moved it back to the reeds in the ditch by the side of the road. It was NOT happy with me, hissed and stretched out its neck, etc. It wasn't until I got home and looked it up that I realized it was a Common Snapping turtle, which they tell you to never pick up or touch! They can snap your finger right off, apparently. So I got lucky.

What a book this has been. That's what happens when I don't post here for a couple of weeks.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

06-05-2010, 05:28 PM
Good afternoon everyone and happy Saturday to you all!

It is a rainy day here. Got my errands run this morning so I am good for the weekend, now just working on laundry... I need to get a walk in today but it may just have to wait until tomorrow when the weather is nicer... although there is that treadmill down stairs gathering dust :D I could get my butt on that.

Lauren: I am a Project Coordinator, right now I am consulting at Sallie Mae, but they have had huge, huge cuts since the President put the nationalization of student loans into the health care bill, they can no long originate student loans so they have laid off 1/3 of their work force and are in the process of cutting down the ones that remain... sigh... I was hoping for a perm. position there but it will not happen now. The end of June is my last unless I get an extension but none are being given, although I was told that they loved my work and wanted to keep me so were trying to find money in another areas budget... we will see. I am actually getting used to this so it does not stress me out as much as it did two years ago... LOL.

I am making a biggest loser recipe tonight... Grilled Parm. Chicken... I made a chili recipe out of their recipe book Thursday night and my DS and DH loved it which surprised me greatly. I am sure that these recipes would work for WW so if they turn out I would be more than happy to share/post them for those that are interested.

Have a great weekend!

Can I join? I've been off and on with Weight Watchers for years now, and every time I stick with it... I lose, every time I fall off... I gain...

:welcome3: KimL
Of course you can join! This is a great group of Turtles----we all do well by sticking with our plan. We also admit that sometimes it's harder than others and that's when we count on our Turtle Buddies to help us get back on track with a kind word or two. So, tell us a bit about yourself and post a lot. It helps!

Lauren, great hearing from you! Do you think it's funny that you're a Turtle and the snapping turtle didn't hurt you? :bravo: It's amazing that you were able to move it and save its life. I think it found a kinship with you!!!!!! What a wildlife adventure. Crazy! Weigh to go with keeping weight steady leading to baggy jeans! That's great news. I hope your Pop is okay. These things are so tough as we get older. My dh and I are older than you guys and although everything seems okay right now, we really try to make the best of each day.

Princess, every job you've taken over the last couple of years---they've wanted to keep you. You are an incredible worker. I hope Sallie Mae can find a way to put you on their permanent payroll. You deserve it. You know what? You've got an awesome  attitude about working. I hear a lot of the stress gone about that. :goodvibes: Good for you! And yes!!!!! I'd love any new recipes from the Biggest Loser Cookbook. I'm always looking for new twists to keep boredom away.

As a matter of fact, here's a simple and low point snack or appetizer. You know how it's popular to have bruschetta on Italian bread? Well, I took the 100calorie (mine were 1 point) bagels, toasted them, spread them with bruschetta from Trader Joe's and put a leaf of basil on them. Delicious and they came in at one point or one and a half points if you ate both halves. Tasty and not damaging.

I'm not sure why I have hives this time around. I've had hives twice before in my life and they're not fun. I am hopeful that the thing that prompted a severe spell this time was mowing the front and back lawn after fertilizer and weed killer were put down. I know it was stupid on all levels. Sometimes I just get that way and want something to be done. It was supposed to rain and the grass was high, and oh well!!!!!! Although I've had hives since, they aren't as bad as they could be. ON the good side, my doc said losing 25# last year was good and he's taking me off a medication. I'm thrilled. MY aim is to get my BP to such a good place that I can come off meds altogether.

Okay----gotta run.
Cherry and Lin and Bandit-----hope you all had a great weekend.
I love this site!!!

Hi turtles - OMG so many posts in so little time - great job!

Princess - Soooooooo happy to see you back with us. At Tops they do have a food plan, but it basically the Canadian Food Guide (what they taught us in school) and most people just do there own thing - I still basically WW plans with a few tweaks here & there. BUt it really is alot cheaper than WW
Nice to see you back & glad you are back on some type of programme.

Lauren - yes the Shoppers area nice stores & I have one that I can walk to at work, so quite often pop in there on my lunch and always buy something.

Judy/Cherry - nice to see you gals chiming in as well. Sounds like everyone is pretty much doing well, so keep up the good work.

I made a different salad when my gf came for dinner Saturday. It was watermelon with feta cheese and was very simple and very tasty. Will post if anyone is interested.

SUnny but abit cooler than last week up here right now. But still nice.

That is soooooooooo awful about that oil leak in the Gulf - makes me actually feel sick reading about it. How are you all coping with something so tragic?

Take care!

Afternoon all and Happy Monday!

The weekend was good and productive. I got my bike out of the basement and DS is going to inflate the tires for me this evening so that will be fun. First week on TBL diet and I was down 4.0 lbs... not what I expected really but it is fine. Dusted off the treadmill Sunday morning because it was raining when i woke up so thought I may as well go ahead and get my walk in for the day.

Bandit: The salad sounds wonderful! Yes, it is heart breaking about the Gulf... and I for one am just frustrated and unhappy with how long it is taking to get it under control...

Kim: Welcome!

Judy: Ouch! They sound really painful! I am like you, if somethings needs to be done I will just do it myself... not always a great idea... LOL, but none the less I press forward :D

Have to run.

Hey Bandit, yes!!!! Please post the watermelon feta cheese salad. It sounds refreshing and yummy.

Princess :goodscale: That's a wonderful :bravo:  weight loss. Good for you.

I'm just checking in to say hi. Glad to see our group being so active right now. Have a great day.

Itryharder~ Thank you for the welcome! Hives!? Any idea what from yet?

bandit2~ The oil spill is awful! Today, to get our students to understand how big it really is we had them go on a website that lets you move the spill so that it centralizes over where you live. Right now it would cover the whole state of Vermont, half of New Hampshire, a third of New York and a small part of Canada as well… Scary…

Princess1122~ Thank you for the welcome! 4 Pounds is AWESOME!!! Congrats!

Today was a really good day with the exception of an hour of bad snacking. Ugh. Lets just say it was a good thing that there was only one bag of chips and that it was only half full… I ate a very light dinner and pounded a lot of water afterwards, but I’m not sure if it really made up for all of it…

Morning, turtles:

Lauren - nice job saving the turtle!

Kim - welcome to our group, nice to have new members.

OK, here is the recipe

Watermelon & Feta Salad
Lemon Dressing:
3 tbsp (45 ml) olive oil, 2 tbsp (25 ml) fresh lemon juice, 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt,
14 tsp (1 ml) freshly ground black pepper

1 small watermelon (about 1# or 500g)
2 nectarines or peaches (I used 1 of each)
6 cups (1.5 L) mixed salad greens (whatever you like)
1 cup (250 ml) crumbled feta cheese
2 tbsp (25 ml) toasted pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds (I used pumpkin)

Make dressing first - place all in larger container and shake
Cut watermelon into small chunks & cut nectarines into 1/2 moon thin pieces -
tear greens and add to fruit. Toss to mix. Crumble cheese over salad, sprinkle seeds and drizzle with lemon dressing. Toss together and serve.

To serve salad later, prepare fruit & dressing, then add remaing ingredients later.

Serves 4 = per serving 198 cal

Happy Tuesday everyone! Just a quick flyby to see how everyone is doing... can't stay but a minute though.

Bandit: The salad looks very good!

Kim: Snacking is hard! Night time is my worst time for snacking right now... I get hungry before I go to bed but I have been trying to work/walk through those times on my treadmill... last night I wanted a snack but was just too tired to be bothered so I went to bed :D

Judy: Thanks! I am not losing like they say you should though so I must be doing something wrong... to be honest the calorie counting is harder then the point counting... I can see myself going back to points real soon... LOL.

Lauren: What a wonderful gift to give someone... a garden! I just love my gardens and was out weeding my vegetable garden last night, that is the part that I don't love so much ;)

Have to run!

06-08-2010, 10:54 PM
bandit2~ Thank you for the welcome!

Princess1122~ Planned a little better for snacking, but it will definitely be a struggle…

Landlord comes tomorrow to inspect the house I’ve been renting, so I will be doing some crazy cleaning before she arrives!!!

06-09-2010, 08:43 AM
Morning all and happy Wednesday to everyone!

Boy oh boy we had some wicked storms come thru here last night... my one dog got her panties all in a bunch because if the thunder and kept us all awake... LOL. Poor old girl!

Today I start to count points again, I think that the calorie count on TBL diet that I have is just too high for my activity level... which is still pretty low... I will see if the points system works better to get me going in the right direction.

I will post TBL Chili recipe when I get a chance, that was really good, I am not sure of the points value but between us all I am sure we can figure it out.

Kim: Good luck with your house cleaning! Planning is the key to staying on track with food I think, and one area that I used to excel in and now I have to really work at.... along with many others... LOL

Bandit: I think I will pop down to the TOPS meeting tomorrow night, if their website is right there is one just down the street from me now so that will be super! I will let you know how it goes.

Judy: Any plans for the upcoming weekend? I miss walking on the boardwalk! I used to love heading to the shore to do that very thing! It is such a wonderful experience and I would sleep so good at night after all of the fresh air that you get... nothing like it!

Lauren: So you are self employed? May I ask what you do/specialize in? I would love to be self employed somedays... and others, well, not so much. It is one of those things I can never make up my mind about. I only take contracts on a W-2 basis so that I don't have to worry about the taxes, etc.

Have to run but will check back later on!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Turtles,
Watermelon Salad looks delicious. I've got a melon sitting in my fridge and I even have FF feta cheese, so I'm going to give this a go. Yummy! Thanks for the recipe, Bandit. :chef:

Princess, good luck at TOPS. I think that's a good move to make. It'll be the "change" that we often need to get in gear and lose weight. It'll be less expensive than WW's and that's always a good thing. Interesting about the diet plan you just tried. I tried a "detox" plan awhile ago and didn't lose anywhere near what the average losers lost. However, for me, it was the feeling good that allowed me to kickstart my weight loss this year.

My dh and I are on a good roll right now. Boardwalk yesterday, good foods, I am looking forward to a decent WW WI. I still love my WW's group. There is such a great group of gals there. I've been going for a loooooooong time and consider a few of the gals my friends. I'm thinking of having a lunch here again soon the way I did at Christmas. That would be fun and I think I'll make the watermelon salad.

KimL, good luck with your house cleaning. Yeah, I should do some of that soon myself. LOL. Good luck with planning your snacks. Do you like popcorn? I bought a microwave popcorn maker and use 2T. of unpopped kernals-----no salt, no butter and I've gotten used to it and it's filling. Sometimes I scatter 4 almonds (.5point) into the popcorn when it's done. The almonds are like a CrackerJack surprise. They get warm from the hot popcorn and the whole dish is yummy.

My little garden isn't doing too well at all. The flowers look pathetic. WEll, this is only June and they've got time to perk up.

This weekend we're having another Murder Mystery Party. This one takes place at the Deadwood Saloon in the late 1800's. It should be loads of fun. Having chili and Vitatop cornbread and lots of food I can eat around. I'll load up my plate with salad and remember to have fun!!!!!!

Hey Lauren, what a lovely gift to plant a garden for your folks. The whole idea is wonderful and cheerful. Good for you guys.

Okay, here's :goodvibes: to us all. Lin, I'm thinking about you and wishing you well.

Let's get this weight gone!!!! :cheer:

Okay Turtles,
I'm back on track. After not weighing in last week because I knew I had put on weight, I had a great week----lots of exercise and very good eating. My WI was 191.8# which puts me down a smidge from the week before that. With a great attitude, I'll break 190# yet!!!!!! :goodscale:

Here's to feeling a tiny bit hungry if that helps us lose weight! What is your best tip to keep on losing weight or on getting back on track.

234.6/191.8/189 and finally breaking 190# I can do it!!!!!!!

06-09-2010, 06:01 PM
Hi turtles:

Judy - weigh to go at the scales! Anything down is great.

Princess - good luck at Tops. I am sure you will fit right in!

Lauren/Kim/Cherry - hope you are all having a good week

As for myself, off to Tops tonight and will be doing a quick presentation about my convention for those unable to attend.

Have a good evening!

06-10-2010, 08:28 AM
Morning all!

Judy: Great job! You are doing so good! You will be below 190 very very soon I just know it!

Bandit: I am eager to go to TOPS tonight... I have to run home after work and quick mow the yard because they are calling for rain here all weekend and it needs to be mowed badly but hopefully I will get done in time and head down for the meeting...

Not much is new here... just chugging along. Have a great day all!

06-10-2010, 11:02 AM
Princess1122~ Haha! Bad storms= my cat practically in my armpit!

Itryharder~ I really like the almond and popcorn idea! Congrats on your weight loss!

bandit2~ Week is going well so far, how is yours?

My mom took over the computer all night last night, so I wasn’t able to get on a check everything. My day went okay, as the landlord was happy with how clean I’ve been keeping the house, but upset with my now ex-roommate, who baled on me in April and has not been paying the landlord her half of the rent. She thinks that because she’s not living there, she doesn’t have to pay, but her name is on the lease until July just like mine…
No soda again! 5 days without any soda is definitely a record for me!

06-10-2010, 11:33 AM
Morning, turtles:

Princess - hope you made it to your meeting, think you will like it.

Kim - glad your week is going well. Mine is too.

Was down 1.5# last night and gave my presentation, which went really well - lots of questions and joining in from members, which was great. I was pretty nervous, but got throught it. Sometimes good to have to step out of your comfort zone & public speaking is alittle unnerving for me. Anyway, good evening overall.

Going bowling tonight with my ladies group - 10 pin - should be a laugh.
On Thurs from 9 to 11, bowling plus shoes are free for ladies - which is even better. Get some excercise as well, we will probably get in 3 games (4 ladies per lane) and throwing those big balls for 2 hours should be good for us.

Have a great Thursday!

06-10-2010, 02:28 PM
Congrats Bandit! That is an awesome loss!

Kim: Good job on not drinking the soda pop! I don't drink it but I know that many struggle with limiting it so way to go!

06-10-2010, 04:48 PM
Hi Turtles,
I wish I could WI today. I'm down 2#!!!! Yay! Now my job is to keep that weight off through eating lunch out tomorrow, having our cowboy mystery party on Saturday, going to a baby shower on Sunday and having my women's group final get together/dinner on Tuesday. Egads! I think I should WI on Tuesday morning this week. I'll have to think about that.

In the meantime, Yay :cheer: and :bravo: to KimL for getting through all those days without soda. Good for you!

Bandit, that's a :goodscale: if I ever saw one! ANd congrats on public speaking and keeping your meeting moving along. :bravo:

All goes well today. Am coping with the hives and doing my best. Right now I'm eating under points to see if I can knock off some more weight and break through the 190# plateau. I'd love to do that this week. :goodscale:

Good luck and :goodvibes: to all the turtles!
234.6/191.8/189 and closer to goal

06-10-2010, 10:28 PM
bandit2~ Bowling is so fun! Did you have a good laugh? I know I average at least 3 gutterballs per string! Congrats on 1.5lbs.!

Princess1122~ Thank you! I would call today a successful Day #6 without any soda.

Itryharder~ Wow! You’re super busy over the next week! Just keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll see that loss plus a little more next week! Any idea on what the hives are from? Thank you for the bravo!

I’m calling today a successful Day #6 without any soda! I also made some amazing Weight Watchers homemade chicken tenders tonight with sides of broccoli and sweet potato fries for dinner. Dad had an issue with the seasoning I put on the tenders, but he just scraped it off and still ate all the chicken. Success when Dad cleans his plate (minus the breading)!

06-11-2010, 08:14 AM
Good Morning all and a very Happy Friday to everyone!

They are calling for rain all weekend so I got my yard work done last night, mowed the grass and got some marigolds planted in the veggie garden to keep pests away. They garden is a bit smaller this year then in years past but I am hoping that it will be more manageable. Now if I can just keep those pesky hail storms away that seem to do so much damage every year just when things get going :D.

I went to TOPS last night, my youngest DS went with me which I thought was nice so I did not have to go alone. He seemed to enjoy it though... it was all women and most of them were older so even though there was no one his age or gender he took it all in good stride. I was super nervous about weighing in at the end of the day since I would have three meals plus snacks and gallons of water in me but it was not as bad as I thought, actually not at all. Maybe I need to mow the grass before every W/I... LOL. So I will update my ticker even though the numbers are super ugly, I have gained back almost every pound that I had lost... oh well, have to start some where... right?

Bandit: I think that I will like TOPS a lot! It is so much more personal than WW was... not that I am slamming WW but this group was small, maybe 10 in all and they welcomed me with open arms... each one made it a point to say hello, etc. It was a nice feeling. They also do activities, etc together, fund raisers to pay for the facility fee, dinner out once in a while and a pot luck style meeting so that everyone can try different low cal meal options. I thought it was great!

Judy: You are doing so awesome! You do sound busy and as always your Mystery Party sounds fabulous! I am so sorry that you are dealing with hives! Can the doctors give you something to help get them under control?

Kim: Great job on the meal! It sounds like it was a huge success! How were the sweet potato fries? I have never tried them although I have the recipe somewhere I think...

Everyone have a great day and a wonderful weekend!

06-11-2010, 12:23 PM
Sorry I havent been posting much. The past 2 weeks i had a gain. The scale is headed back down now though so i will try to update later.

06-12-2010, 12:01 AM
Princess1122~ Sweet potato fries are awesome! There are a couple companies that make frozen ones now that you can bake. I don't mind making them from scratch, but have found the frozen ones to be a lot crisper, plus, a HUGE time saver.

No soda again today!!! One whole week, 7 days, with NO soda!!! PLUS! I did not have any fried food at work tonight! Resisting temptation all over the place! SWEET! Hopefully when I have a bad spell it won't equal trying to make up for all my soda and fried food free days...

06-12-2010, 10:56 AM
Hi Turtles,
Congrats to Princess for posting here and getting to TOPS while you were still lower than your original starting weight. :bravo: From my experience, many people eat past their starting weight, gain more, and are reluctant to start over, so I consider you :dancer:  Weigh to go for taking care of yourself!

KimL, :carrot: and :cheer: for you accomplishment! Duh. I never thought of buying frozen fries and making them. I make sweet potato fries from scratch=----but your way sounds better. :chef:

Okay Guys==I've gotta run, but I'll start a new thread before I do. All of a sudden we've gotten long. :carrot:
