Well I just returned from the doc and was told I have PCOS. I don't think I was shocked any. I went in because I was growing facial hair, getting bad acne and I was very tired and moody. After answering the docs questions and after her looking over my chart she told me that it was PCOS. She told me about her problems with it (a little skinny european lady) and that her battle went so far as to have her tummy stapled. She assured me that we would find a solution to the problem. She started me on a medication for my acne and Birth Control Pills. I go tomorrow for a full blood work up including a fasting blood glucose test. Then if that turns out good she will proscribe me another medication to lower my glucose levels.

It makes me feel so good to know that it's not just me that is the reason I can't loose weight (if that makes sence). I also talked to her about my excess belly skin (stretched to the limit from growing fast and kids) she assured me that we can take care of that after my wieght loss.

She made me feel real good. I am so glad I have a great fam doc. What a difference it makes to go to some one who is going through what you are going through.

Bella, good luck. I just got diagnosed with PCOS in June so I'm still working out my solutions too. At least now you have some direction to head.... Good Luck!

I too have PCOS. the acne, facial hair, irregular periods and just feeling yucky. I have been to docs over the years and many didn't seem to help. One thing that helped me tremendously is eating LO carb( not atkins or no carb). I started this woe over a year ago and since then my periods rae regular, I feel better, less PMS weight loss, no acne, still have facial hair though.
Here at 3FC there is a forum dedicated to it. I also found a site called soulcyters
I found all these sies helpful

Take care

I'm glad you found a sympathetic doctor, Bella. I knew a girl who went to her family doctor because she just couldn't lose the weight no matter how she tried. He just blew her off. "Don't eat as many Big Macs," he said. This woman hadn't eaten ANY fast food in about a year and he says something like that....Anyhow, she changed her doctor after that. (Don't know the rest of the story...we lost touch...life of a military wife...)

Hey guys,
I dont really know much about this condition but I wanted to wish you well. It seems like a lot of people have this. I dont know if you knew but there is a thread here on the 3fc site for dealing with health problems and weight loss and I think PCOS is one of the ones they discuss. It may be worth checking out.
good luck to you!!

Bella -
how did your blood tests go? Mine came back borderline for everything so my doc wanted to take me off the Depo Provera which has been rough.. but I'll live. It's only 1 week without it so far.. here's hoping I make it through getting off of it!
