Well, I am leaving on vacation in 3 weeks from tomorrow and I need to lose some weight. This is a WAY over due thing. But better to start now than never. Anyone looking for a buddy. I need to lose about 45lb and would like some extra support. Hope you all are doing well on your diets.

Juiceinjudy- I don’t think there is a limit on any because they are both vegetables (It may be different if you are using can foods). The only limits that are stated is on the rice, oatmeal, and yogurt

Okay all today is going to be my official start day! Good Luck to everybody I know the next 8 days are going to be tough for me. I am just hoping I have enough time to prepare and exercise. My plan is to workout each day for my detox phase. It’s going to be tough my boyfriend went out of town for work for the next five weeks ( I want to lose about 20lbs before he comes back)so that leaves me with our almost 6 months old by myself EEK and I am currently on mandatory overtime at my work. Last night was so weird it was the first time I slept in the house with her alone.

Brook505-I really don't remember. I am nursing student, so my class schedule is crazy. I usually pack a snack but I forgot to. So between the commute to school and class time. I was starving by the time I got home. So I just need to remember to pack my snacks.

On another note. I had clincals today and I remembered my snack. I avoided the Halloween candy. I just have to squeeze the gym into my schedule.

Good Morning All

I’m sad to say that yesterday did not go that great for me. I actually did well all day but didn’t bring enough food to work with me so I was starving bout time I got off so I stopped to get food. So today is a re-start for the 9 day detox…

I'm REstarting today for Detox. I'm looking to lose 20-25 pounds that seem to keep finding me!!! LOL I did FatSmash last year and lost that weight, but here I am again, after letting all I learned go out the window, trying to get my eating under control. COUNT ME IN!!!!

I really do love this diet though!

Hello Everyone,

I am on day 4 of the extreme fat smash diet. I have done this diet two times before. The very first time was the most successful as I got down to 188lbs, then I had two pregnancies and two miscarriages so besides my hormones going up and down so did my weight. After the last miscarriage I lost 20lbs from 229 to 209, and here I am again trying to get back to that 188 point. I am looking forward to having all of you as buddies.

Well, I started on Sunday, 11/1 for the second time since 10/18. So far so good. Just having a challenge with drinking water and eating 4-6 times a day.

Hi Jess,

I know I'm a little behind (no I didn't say I HAVE a little behind or I wouldn't be doing this!) Anyway, I'm onboard with you although before last week I didn't even know about this website or make a decision on my diet choice yet.

I have been with a couple different websites in the past and after 2 years bowed out of the last one about 6 months ago. I am now ready to re-commit and get into shape........other than pear shape that is! I started this already on Monday the 2nd so that makes day three of Phase 1 detox.

Hope your doing well to get back into shape for your vacation. Please everyone that has done this website and or diet before I need some guidance so feel free to jump in and give me advice. Thanks.

Ok, some good news! On day 3 and down 4 lbs! And I thought I would never lose another pound. I have been doing low carb diets, WW. I remembered that this is the only diet that really kept me disciplined and since it is short term I can keep it in perspective!

Congrats on your 4lb lost. I am trying so hard not to get on that scale, however, my husband keep taking it out of it's hiding place. I am waiting until the end of Cycle 1 for me to weigh again. I'm looking forward to it. I am starting to feel much better about myself and my clothes are starting to fit better.

Congratulations Dingo on your 4 lb weight loss! So you signed up for this thread but you are not on the Fat Smash? I would be curiuos to know if there is a website that can give me what you are eating/doing "just in case" this one dosen't prove to be all it's made out to be.

Equinata, I am also trying hard not to get on the scale! I have it out in the open and every morning when I walk past it I think "hmmmmm wonder if I am losing"? My goal is to wait until tomorrow morning when I am at the half way point. This way, if I am losing, I will continue doing just as I have been. If I have not lost, (I won't even think that!) then I will tweak my consumption somehow.

Just had my breakfast of "Heather's Smashin Pancakes" with mixed frozen berries warmed and crushed for "syrup", not too bad. I made them the other day, had my portion (3) and froze the rest (I made 9). I can't say I am thrilled with the texture (or sweetness, but I'm a sweetaholic), I added some mashed bananas to mine but still found it neccessary to add the fruit on top. I wonder if a little more baking powder would "fluff them up" a bit?

My other vice besides sweets? COFFEE! I can't seem to go without it. I get very bad migraine headaches and it dosen't take much to set them off. I didn't want to go "cold turkey" without the caffeine so I bought some half caf coffee and have cut my consumtion down to one cup.....that in itself was a major adjustment!

I made the Roasted Garbanzo Beans yesterday and I think I have found my new crunchy snack.....I loved them! I added some in my afternoon salad and it was a nice addition. I have been making a "Mexican Salad" the last couple of afternoons. I made a big pot of chili on day one, then used about 1/2 cup of it (heated), added a sprinkle of cheddar veggie shreds, 2 tsp of plain non-fat yogurt (for the sour cream), and mixed it all up into a bowl of salad. It is sooooo yummy if you have not done this yet, try it, you'll like it! The chili mixed with the yogurt coats the greens nicely and it is very filling. The Roasted Garbanzo Beans made me think I had some crisp tortilla in there!

I have a recipe for Sweet Potatoe (or pumpkin) Muffins that I am going to alter to our ingredients and make this weekend. If they turn out well I will share the recipe. Speaking of that, is there actually a place on here that lets you input recipes for either your own use or to share? I have had trouble manuevering between this forum and the recipe section, and I'm pretty compuer literate! Is there a trick or a "path" I can take to get from one place to the other?

You are making those meals work. I've been trying to be creative this time around and so far so good. I've been preparing my food ahead of time and since hubby is doing it with me it is much easier that cooking two different meals at the same time.

Thanks for responding. I wish my hubby was doing this with me but he's not. I am getting my meals done in advance either by preparing and/or logging them in on a food tracker so I know what I am eating. Then I work on what I am going to feed him and my 11 year old daughter for dinner. They will share things like salads either green or fruit but the beans, brown rice, eggplant, and so on is a no husband hates any kind of squash and green beans gross him is a past bad memory of childhood for him! So I've been on my own with the majority of the veggies. It's ok, as long as I keep myself commited they can continue to eat as they want! So far I have not been tempted....although that grilled chicken I made them for dinner last night looked darn good!

If you go to the purple bar on the top of your pages (this one also) you will see a "Quick Links" catagory with a drop down menu. If you click on "Sig Weight Tracker" it will take you to the area to create one is required that we wait for 20 days before they will allow us to have one. You'll see when you go in. You can create one and then hopefully it will show up when we've meet our requirement.

PS-I just went in to check this. I have created one before but it seems not to save. It IS 20 days to wait from the time we signed up to have it show up. I'm not sure if we have to track the days or we will get an email telling us we can. Chances are we will have to create one at that time.

I may have a trick for that water - kellogs have two drinks on the market that will held with all diets. They are the K2O Protrein Water Mix and the ALL BRAN Fiber Drink Mix. They come in different flavors like that crystal light stuff and taste really good. Take my work for it, because I can't stand to drink anything with a vitamin taste to it. These drinks are awesome to put in your water and keep it moving.

Is there anyone who can help me try to get a ticker at the end of all of my posts?

I started the Fat Smash this past monday 11/2 and I am loving it I am feeling better already I need a Buddy too, I need to loose 37 pounds not fast but at a reasonable pace. I have done this diet before and lost a considerable amount of weight....We can do this together Buddy Style...

Hi Fellow Phase 1 Smashers,

As promised earlier today, I have converted a muffin recipe for Sweet Potatoe Muffins and have made it Phase 1 and Up Fat Smash Diet friendly. I've named them Fat Smashin Pumpkin Muffins, in the recipe I substituted pumpkin which turned out well.

Already made some today and they are pretty darn good. You can find the recipe on the Fat Smash Diet thread. I would suggest maybe cutting the batch in half if you don't have anyone else in the house that will eat them...although I can't imagine why, they are tasty! It makes 40, yes 40 mini muffins. I also included the nutrition stats for those who want to know. Even with using brown sugar, margerine, and olive oil, all of the quantities per serving (2 mini muffins) stay within our allotted daily intake of all ingredients.

Hope you enjoy them! :chef:

Well, I have doing pretty well on the diet. Have been eating fruits and vegetables. Have been walking. Probably not eating enough times in a day or drinking enough water...but overall, pretty well. Until yesterday! Yesterday I was out, I got hungry and had some popcorn from Target. Then when I got home I had a sweet potatoe burritto (it was small but unfortunately it had a little cheese, black beans and a flower tortilla). Well, I am still going to go back to the diet today and stick with it the remaining 4 days. But, I guess that I will not be completely detoxed. Any thoughts?

Good morning All, Its nice to see so many people doing this diet I REALLY need the support :hug:. Well today is day three for me I have not had a chance to work out at all so I am a little disappointed about that but I will try my best to get something in this weekend. I know its only day three but I weighed myself and I am down 2lbs. Is anybody else getting bored with the food? Maybe I am because I did the detox phase a few times last month but decided to start over because I never made the full 9 days. I will see how the rest of the day and the weekend go usually my weekends are when I lose it and start eating all the “bad” food again.

Good Morning ladies, I finally subscribed to this thread so I can never lose you guys again.
I am on the EFS diet and to change the foods up I usually cook my brown rice about 4 servings at a time and then when I need to have the brown rice for a meal I would sautee some onions and minced garlic with very little olive oil then add the rice and some soy sauce just like the chinese restaurants. It makes a huge difference. I get creative with my beans like I would made some white kidney beans with some chili ready tomatoes (sold in a can). I also like to use spanish and mexican seasonings for my beans, tomatoe sauce, sofrito, recaito, onions, garlic. You can never go wrong with onions. Even with my veggie or soy burgers I will sautee onions to eat with it. Bake chicken and fish with basil, italian seasoning, oregeno, etc... I'm a straight garlic veggie person it's great with spinach and stringbeans, but my brocoli has to have a little sweet & sour sauce (made by hellmans now) and soy sauce. Ladies being creative will get you very far on this diet.

Good Morning Ladies,

Nice to see a number of you reporting in this morning already. So, I know that we are not supposed to weigh in until day 10, but from the beginning I had made a mini goal for myself to weigh in at the half way point. This way if I needed to tweak what I was doing, I could. Rather than staying on it the same way all 9 days and finding out it really didn't make a difference, that's just insane.

So after 4 full days I am down 2.8 lbs. Happy about that especially since I am a past thyroid cancer patient and I virtually have no metabolism! What I do have, is controlled with medication. The Dr. however, keeps me on a low dose in order to keep my levels supressed. This is great for not allowing cancer to enter me again but not so much for weight gain or trying to lose.

I only got activity in 2 out of the 4 days. I have promised my husband I will go out and cut our back yard today, which is way overdue. This will be a good workout I'm positive!

Just like with anything, you dust yourself off and get back on that detox horse! So, it was a partial day of questionable choices. Make up for it by working out some extra time to burn those calories off. Keep concious of the choices next time, before you put them in you mouth. If you still do it, then you forgive yourself, make apoint of not doing it again, and do something to burn those extra calories off. I know this is detox but you can bet your butt if those celebrities had the chance to sneak in something not approved, they did it too! Good luck and know we are here for you.

Congrats on being down 2 lbs already! Like I said above, don't get discouraged, just get back to it! Equinata has some wonderful suggestions as to what she does with food. If you are looking for a change for something that is "approved" then just shout out ahead of time and we will try to come to your rescue with something! Good Luck!

I'm glad that you figured out to subscribe to this thread. I had done that already so I was getting regular updates, but didn't know that was the "key"! Thank you for sharing your great suggestions on what you do to "mix" it up in Phase 1. Am I correct that you are talking about future phases with the mention of chicken, fish, and sauces? I'm sure you will continue to be a good source of information to help us all with our challenges!

wait is it 2 late???? cause i'm starting bak on this 2morrow ...I already ate a sausage biscuit this morning so that canceled me out... but i'll be detoxin for the 3rd tme.. I went on vacation and completely KILLED my diet and put back on what I lost a whole 17lbs (not wanting 2 lose to much weight for the clothes I bought so I stopped dieting and exercising.. + the food on the cruise did me in!)...but I need to be back. I wanna drop a hot 30-40lbs by FEB.. COUNT ME IN.. I NEED SUPPORT..

Hey everyone,

Jan - I am actually doing the Extreme Fat Smash Diet by Dr. Smith. It is only 3 cycles long which last 7 days and 3 cycles is one rotation. This diet does not cut out any food group, so meat/fish is on the menus in the amout of 3 or 4 ounces. It is said that you can loose up to 12lbs in one rotation if you follow it to the letter.

I apologize ladies, if I confused you as I am smashing along with you just from a different book!

Happy Weekend! So far so good with the Friday night "junk fest" around here between my husband, my daughter and her friend! Cookies, chips, and leftover Halloween candy all over the place!

The other night I made the recipe on here for the Sugar Free Apple Cobbler. I make cobblers the regular way for the family all the time. However, sinced I used fresh apples (as opposed to sugary canned) and sweetener instead of real sugar, I didn't get any rave reviews. I felt it was better the next day and beyond.

I ate my portion with 2 teaspoons of non fat vanilla yogurt, not too bad. I know I am doing this for a GOOD reason, so I was satisfied with it.... and I'm still getting my "sweets" in! When I was craving something salty, a handful of Roasted Garbanzo Beans-Yum!

Vdotson and anyone who may be interested in the difference between the FS and EFS Diets. I found this on a thread from Suzanne, one of the 3FC's:

Fat Smash vs Extreme Fat Smash (extreme nutshell version)

This is an extreme nutshell version of the plans. Hopefully it will be enough to let you know which book you should purchase for the remaining details

Fat Smash Diet
Designed for weight loss no matter how much or how little you need to lose
Consists of 4 phases
Phase 1 - Detox, lasts 9 days
Phase 2 - Foundation, lasts 3 weeks
Phase 3 - Construction, lasts 4 weeks
Phase 4 - The Temple - Life
Allows all fruits and vegetables, except white potatoes and avocados.
Phase 1 is vegetarian and allows limited grains and dairy.
Phases 2 - 4 gradually add additional food choices, including meats and occasional sweets.
If followed as written, the diet balanced and contains around 1300 calories per day, according to my calculations.
You'll eat 4 or 5 times per day.
Exercise: Recommends a variety of exercises suggesting 30 min per day 5 days per week to start, and gradually increasing it each phase.
FYI- This book lacks many details and has caused a lot of confusion among dieters.

Extreme Fat Smash
Designed for people that have 10 to 25 pounds to lose
Consists of 3 Cycles, plus maintenance
Each cycle lasts 1 week, and 3 cycles = 1 rotation.
Repeat rotations as necessary until you reach goal. Then follow the maintenance guidelines.
Food choices are more specific this time. You will eat foods which are low on the Glycemic Index. For example, you cannot eat bananas, watermelon, or pineapple because they are high GI, despite being low in calories and fat free. You'll also be encouraged to eat foods higher in fiber and protein.
Averages 800 to 1000 calories per day, according to the sample menus we checked. We assume this is why it is for people with few pounds to lose, because it would not be healthy to follow long term.
You'll eat every 3 hours.

Exercise: Requires intense exercise, usually about an hour a day.
This version seems to be more detailed, apparently avoiding most of the confusion that resulted from the first book.

Both books include recipes.

I have been keeping quiet because I wasn't really sticking to FS to the letter, more adapting it! I have been following during the day, but maybe having chicken at night. One night last week I had a Lean Cuisine meal because I just didn't have time to prepare anything else. We always go out at the weekend so I kind of factored that in too. I have been exercising at least 30 minutes a day. Good news - I am down 5 pounds since last monday! I am feeling much better all ready, way less bloated and my skin is looking great. I think I should be able to carry on with my adapted version! Hope you guys are all doing good too..

I stayed on track and didn't cheat all weekend but I have to say I have not exercised since last week (other than playing Wii with my daughter!) I know this will play a factor in my continued weight loss (or not). I did however spend more than an hour sweating trying to prop my fence up in the back yard that almost got blown down by the fierce winds here the last couple of days! Got that hurricane Ida heading past the West coast of Florida and it's kicking up some major winds over on here on the East Coast! Batten down the hatches! No big deal here, really. Hope it's not heading to any of you.

That was the jist of it between the two diets. I stayed on track all weekend and am officialy on cycle 2 of the diet and had a 5lb loss for the first week. I set to do two workouts 5 days this week with the first being set at 5AM bless my heart. I'm trying so hard this time. I plan to sign up for a bootcamp class come January to get some more guidance on my workouts as I am a pretty active person who has been battling this weight loss thing for some years. I can truly say that I've come a long way from when I first started my battle at 250lbs, but lord knows I want to break into the 190's and pray this week will do it! Sad but true that two years ago I weighed 188lb after my first touch with the EFS, but I had two pregnancies since that ended in misscarriages. Me and hubby decided to wait before trying again so back to the faithful BC's and weight loss.

How did the rest of you ladies do this weekend?

Thanks for giving the "ok" to what I posted regarding the difference on the FS and EFS Diets. I only know the original and you the EFS so between us I was hoping we could say it's fairly accurate.

Now I am curious, do you have the book? If so, does it state that it's suppose to be for those wishing to lose a smaller amount of weight? I suppose like any diet, if it works for you, then it's a good diet! Is this the continued diet you have used to lose the weight so far? I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your pregnancies. Once you are healthy enough to handle it I'm sure you will be blessed again.

Good for you for working out twice a day, that's my downfall. Also for wanting to sign up for a bootcamp...I hear they kick your butt! I was layed off my my job a few weeks ago so unfortunately any working out needs to be done right here at home....and I don't have any machines. I know where there a will, there is a way though...I just have to do it!

It's wonderful when we can almost go back and forth in real time. LOL Yes, I do have the book and it does not say it is for those who only need to loose a smaller amount of weight. It is just a more straight to the point teach you a lesson diet. For me it is more about planning ahead and teaching me what foods are better for my body and diet type. I have been using this diet only, but understand that during those times of pregnancy I did away with the diet thing all together. I'm a carb girl, but have learned that I do not have to always have the pasta or white rice. This diet has taught me to make better choices. Now we only buy whole wheat pasta for home cooking and brown rice and for all of you carb lovers this makes a big difference for us. I've learned that water is my best friend. Now I can't even drink a soda without having bad gas. My husband will tell you that my cooking has been enlightened since you have to be creative to not get bored with it and no, I am not the cookbook type. I will take a cheat day after the entire rotation before starting cycle 1 again and when I reach my goal I will have to stay in the maintenance phase. I have come to the understanding that I will have to get some kind of excerise for the rest of my life and it will help me live longer I'm sure.

I used to be with Sparkpeople and so I have continued to go into that website, toggling back and forth with this one just to input my intake. I know we don't have to but I like to see what I am consuming just the same and see if I am having a "high" calorie day, a "low" calorie day, how I felt when I ate those things that particular day, was I still hungry or did I stay satisfied with my choices. You guys get the idea.

Yes I do like that we are able to share our stories and of ourselves via this website. I am having a tough time getting the family on board with the whole wheat pastas and brown rice. Even when I was dieting another way before and introduced those they ate it but continually complained...that's a using a nice word!

I am going to continue to try on this original Fat Smash at least a few weeks and see how things go. If I find once I get past Thanksgiving and feel I need to change it up a bit, then I will either invest in the EFS book or see if I can get a copy at the library.

From what you have read as to the types and amounts of foods we can have on the FS, do you feel that you have a better variety & more or less quanity of foods?

Jan I do not know how to navigate this site yet, sorry I csnt help you there. You guys may have a variety as your menu is not set, but the EFS menu is set with guidelines ofcourse. This works for me as I do not have to guess when meal planning and I really don't have to give up much when it comes to food groups. I will try to list my menu for today when I get back to my PC. I'm mobile at this moment and it will take forever on this tiny blackberry.

Hello Ladies,

Here is my menu for today on the EFS, so you can get an idea of how they are set up.
1 cup of cold cereal with low-fat, fat free, or soy milk (Cheerios, Corn Flakes, Puffed Wheat, Shredded Wheat, All-Brain, and similar cereals are recommended) No presweetened cereals
1 piece of any type of fruit OR 1 cup of freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juice

Meal #2
1 small salad (optional: 1 chopped hard boiled egg)

1 serving of vegetables
1 cup of boiled brown rice

1/2 cup of beans, chickpeas, or lentils
1 serving of vegetalbe
1/2 cup boiled brown rice

The diet allows two snacks in every meal plan if you would like to have a snack they must be 100 calories or less.

Thank you for the idea of what a day of EFS is like. That menu at least sounds like something I could work with. I'll have to go to the bookstore or library this weekend and read over the book.

I worked with my brother-in-law today, he lives in Connecticut but has work here in FL a few times a year. I was wondering how I would be if we went to lunch. Well good news is that I didn't have to find out because we were too busy. By the time we stopped at a store on the way home, he got a sandwhich and I got a bag of pre-cut apples. I also had packed water and a yogurt so that saved me from starvation mode....or at least from getting too dizzy and passing out!

I was really hungry when I got home but stayed focused and on track. I made a salad, some brown rice spaghetti (questionable still in this phase), and light made eggplant "parmesean"....without the parmesean!

Tomorrow is my Mom's birthday and her husband, myself, and my daughter are taking her out to lunch, this will be a big test. Then since my brother-in-law is leaving on Thursday he is taking us out to dinner tomorrow night! The only thing I have to say is that I am glad today is my last day of Phase 1 and I can at least have a little lean meat while out. I was going to continue on Phase 1 for another 9 days but I'll just have to take tomorrow off, be good, and start back on Thursday.

OK I have given you TMI for one day. Hope you all had a nice day and stayed on track. For those that started on the 2nd, tomorrow is weigh in day!

Jan it's good to hear you were able to stick to it. It is always good to know where you are going before going out to eat this way you can look over the menu and make your choice ahead of time. Be sure to tell the waiter to please forget the bread basket.... LOL or at least put it far away from you as possible.

Hi Ladies,

Hope you all did well on your first phase of FS or EFS. I weighed in and was down another 1.8 lbs. This gives me a total of 4.6 for the total phase of 9 days, however, I only exercised for 3 out of those 9 days.

I'm taking today off and adding some lean meats just since I am going out to eat today to celebrate my Mom's birthday. I will watch what I am ordering and the way it is cooked though!

Tomorrow I am repeating the detox phase and am going to try to be more determined in getting at least 30 minutes of exercise in at least 7 of those next 9 days. You know me, chatty cathy, I'll be reporting in.

Well I'm not seeing any reporting going on here with weigh in and have not seen one post from Jess the girl that started this thread. I have to say though I have enjoyed cooresponding with Equinata and a couple of the other ladies.

I went out to lunch for my Mom's B'Day today and felt I did well. I ordered a small portion of grilled mahi mahi, salad, and sauteed veggies. I would have preferred they were steamed but didn't think to ask for them that way until after the fact. I left the mayonaisse filled cole slaw alone, didn't take one bite of the hush puppies that were put on the table and everyone raved about and drank water with lemon. But..... I did have a small peice of B'Day cake that they brought out for my Mom. That was the worst that I did all day though.

I was suppose to go out to dinner with my brother-in-law but his plans turned another direction so I ate a leftover turkey burger, brown rice, and steamed broccoli. Made the normal "bad food" for the family. They wanted chicken fingers and fries....didn't tempt me in the least!

So that was my day. Hope you all had a good day!

Jan you did great and I am sure that one different meal and a piece of cake will not hinder you at all on your journey. I had to improvise yesterday for dinner as well as my DH had to bomb the house after sitting a counsins dog who had fleas (made me so upset). We went to Picadilly and oredered grilled chicken with two green vegetables, so it was different from my menu but in the same range.

Thank you for the support Equinata. I know I did ok but had been avoiding those sugary things up until yesterday. They are my weakness. I love to bake and more so love to eat what I have baked, or what the grocery store has baked, the bakery, you get my drift. I can live without alot of things but sweets and coffee are something that is tough to give up.

I still made a couple "sweets" during my 9 days on the detox but kept within what I could have. I ground my own oat flour, used artificial sweeteners, egg whites and so on. Was able to create a few things that were from "ok" to pretty passable. I never gave up my coffee though. Cut back on the amount from 2-3 large cups to one, went to half caf, and put less of the sweetener and creamer in it. It seemed to all work for me although I don't know if I would have done better to have avoided these things all together.

Back on my next round of detox today. I always start out first thing upon waking with about 8-12 oz of water because I have to take my medication in the morning and then also can't eat for an hour. After that it was on to my oatmeal....and coffee.

We are having a great weather day here today as I'm sure you may be also in Georgia. Well in general I know it is cooler there than here. We have 70's right now with low humidity....that's the best, although it's all overcast. I'll take this over the high 80's to 90's anyday...especially in November, come on now it's time to cool off and stay that way darn it!

I have a freind that I met on another nutrition website (Sparkpeople) that I keep in contact with via email and she lives in Georgia as well. You Georgia people are so nice, just a peach, sorry for the pun!

Anyway, I need to get back on to that other website to input my food intake from the rest of yesterday and then plan my meals for today. I was trying to plan out in my head last night as I was going to sleep how to arrange my transition through the phases of this "diet" in order to keep losing some weight and to get to my goal by April 2. This was 5 months to the day from starting this. I was hoping to drop 12 lbs this month and a minimum of 10 lbs the other months. I can achieve my goal by that date if I can keep regimented and true to this.

Where are you in your weightloss journey Equinata? What is your goal and do you have a date as to when you would like to attain that? It seems that this thread on this website is going to be dead before too long. It's pretty much just you and I now. Is there another website you frequent that you would like to stay in touch on? I do like Sparkpeople but just got burned out being on a "team" and going through the 12 week challenges. Especially since I was having a medical and medication issue that stopped any progress.

Anyway, let me know. I would love to keep in touch with you either way and be supportive if you need it....I'm sure I will need it! Have a good day.

My goal is to come down to 180 as mu first goal hopefully by the end of February and to maintain this healthy lifestyle to reach 170 then I will see if I want to lose more or maintain. OK, I weighed in this morning and am down another 1.6, which I am very please with. That's 6.8 pounds in 2 weeks, and I was very, very bad on Friday night and Sunday!! i had a burger on Friday and hot wings yesterday, and beer! Still, I did work out for an hour on both days, and 45 minutes on Saturday. Actually, I have worked out for at least 30 every day except 2 in the last two weeks. It's a struggle making time for it, but my Hubby has been marvelous support, even eating soy with me!! Back to the program today...

Hi ladies! Hope you don't mind but I'm going to jump on this thread. My mom, sister and I all did a 10 week weight loss challenge in April, and I decided to try the FS diet. By the end of June I lost 25lbs! After that I trained for a 5k with my sister, which I completed in 38 minutes (and I'm SO not a runner). Now I put some weight back on and I'm ready to start my journey again.

I like the FS diet because even though it's pretty strict (the no bread thing kills me), it's very clear, and I don't ever feel hungry. I'm worried that it might be more challenging for me in the fall/winter, because my favorite fruits are spring/summer ones (peaches, mangoes), and I don't know that I'll want to fill up on melons.

So I'm ready to start tomorrow. And looking forward to working with all of you to meet our goals!

Okay so I'm at work for 12 hours today. I think I did fairly well. I had an orange and green apple for breakfast. For lunch I had a salad and cup of yogurt. I have been drinking water throughout the day. I'm trying...I checked the scale this morning and I'm motivated now! With God and you guys I can do this!

Jan I did very well, just finished my salad for dinner and I signed up for an adult jazz class that starts on Jan 7th at my eight year old daughters dance school. She is so psyched about me doing it.I am also going to sign up for a bootcamp in Jan too. I'm trying to create an activity habit.
Motivated mom I guess you dropped a few pounds. You can do anything just let the flesh follow he spirit.

Motivated -- I must say that I'm a little concerned. You don't seem to be eating much of anything! And I know from personal experience that walking around with an empty tummy isn't very sustainable. That's why I love the FS tummy is almost always happy. Maybe you can try starting off with some hot oatmeal. That always seems to get me through the first part of the day.

Today was Day 1 of my FS diet, but Day 7 of the family weight loss challenge, which meant a weigh in at 4pm. I know I should have started 7 days ago, but better late than never! So I started off with some instant oatmeal (apples and cinnamon, yum!), had some light string cheese for a snack, a salad at lunch, and some fried brown rice with broccoli, onions, and egg whites when I came home, after the weigh in, of course.

So last week I weighed in at 239.2 (yikes, I gained more than 10lbs from our last challenge), and today I came in at 236.2. Not bad for being a diet procrastinator. But of course my sister won this week. She also lost 3lbs, but since she's much smaller (140ish) her percentage was bigger than mine. Now I'm determined to follow through and keep with it these first 9 days.

I have clinicals from like 1230-530, not to mention it is 45 min to an hour drive, depending on traffic. I need ideas of snacks that i can pack with me. That has been part of the problem. I would forget to pack a snack so by the time I got home I was starving. So any ideas would be great.

Good Morning Ladies! It' nice to see some new life in this thread!


I would like to see a show of hands, what Diet are you all on?
Extreme Fat Smash (EFS) or Original Fat Smash (FS) and what Phase?


Reason I ask is that Equinata is on the EFS and I am on the Regular FS. If any of you need suggestions or support with something specific then we can give you what we have learned so far for that plan or phase.

There are 2 things I find very important:

1) Plan what you are eating in advance. This leads to less bad choices.


2) If it goes in your mouth then write it down. This will make you fully aware of what you are eating.

This I find is not an easy task. I have not found a place on this website to record my food or to get a break down of what a particular food, food grouping, or recipe does for the waist line. I am a member of another website (not actively anymore) but find that there meal planner section is great. It's called Sparkpeople. If any of you would like to set yourself up on that, let me know.

I'm hoping that you are on the FS as this is what I can relate with. It seems that you can have your breakfast, one snack and lunch before you get to class is that correct? Do they give you time in between for another snack? I used to work 45 minutes away from home and so I know that eating on the road can lead to big messes. The safest foods are still always going to be cut up fruits or veggies, zip lock bags are the best. No fumbling with containers while driving. I have to repeat myself again, it's all about pre-planning. Takes time at the time but saves you calories later.

Apples have fiber and along with some water on the way home can help curb your ravenous appetite. This will hopefully eliminate the need to tear the door off the fridge upon walking in. Grapes are an easy, non messy snack too. Baby carrots, cut up celery, cucumbers, you pick. Want something "salty"? Make some roasted garbanzo beans, bake them in bulk and store them in an airtight container. Divvy them out into your little bags for the road but beware, they can become addictive! My whole family eats mine now and loves them! Have you been on the recipes on here? I'll see if there is anything else I can suggest and let you know. Good Luck.


A family challenge? I love it! This should keep you motivated. Of course they say that you should not be in competition with your family but I say "why not" if it's going to motivate you to work that much harder to beat her tail! Are you on the original Fat Smash? I read something about string cheese. Was that vegetarian because I would love to have some? The regular cheeses (even light/fat free) are off limits in general are binding to the system. Not scolding, just checking. I have vegetarian "cheddar shreds" and "mozzarella" slices....they are so, so. Good Luck to you in this and your family challenges!


An adult jazz class.....I think that is great! I'm am sure that your daughter is so happy that Mommy is joining her in dance! Mine is just in baton classes after school at this time and there's not much I can do with that! My baton twirling days were over long ago!


It sounds like you are motivated this time around! Working 12 hour days can definitely wreak havoc on trying to eat healthy let alone trying to follow a specific plan. You sound like you are choosing your foods wisely but I agree with Spinsistah, do make sure you are getting enough of the allowed foods in to keep your energy up!

I am on EFS and am on my last Cycle. Yay, but I will be going back to cycle 1 after this. Jan the snacks you mentioned are the ideal for traveling. I look like a school kid when I'm out the house because I don't leave without my lunch bag. Jan can you give me the recipe for those garbanzo beans?

Motivatedmom tomorrow will be a better day. We have to make time for planning. Cook in buk on the days you have ample time then freeze them or refrigerate. Keep plenty of fruits and veggies to be ziplocked and grabbed to go. Keep water bottles filled and near buy at all times.

Hi Ladies,

Getting ready to settle in for the night. Not feeling the greatest and don't know why. Going to have a nice cup of green tea. Been having some strange issues with my throat, feeling like it's tough to swallow at times, being hoarse, and voice cracking. Due to see the specialist next month for my 6 month check up but can bump that up if I need to. Wondering if it has anything to do with the foods I have been consuming on this diet??? Enough complaining, sorry.

I think that is great that you are able to get into an earlier boot camp program. Thank you for posting the other website for calorie counting. I knew there had to be a number of them out there but just suggested the one I was familiar with. I'm sure that one is easier to navigate then what I suggested.

You know what you did and didn't do so just adjust it tomorrow...or tonight with your meal planning. None of us are perfect, you just have to get back up on that horse!

Thank you for the well wishes. The throat seems to be better but I do have the old stand by migraine this morning! UGH!

Equinata knows but the rest of you don't. I had thyroid cancer a couple years ago and no longer have one. My metabolism and many other things are simulated with the medication I take.

However, there are certain foods that can prevent proper absorption of the medication if there is not enough iodine in the system. This could mean feeling crappy. Even seemingly innocent food items like broccoli or soy products (just to name a couple) can effect me if my levels of other nutrients are off. So this is why I wonder if the way I am feeling by days end has to do with what I am consuming throughout the day. Don't know if you guys get that but it's ok......I appreciate the support either way! LOL

So, have you all prepared your meal plans for the day? A half hour of planning can save a half pound of weight...ok I don't really know that but certainly it's better than winging it!

I get things in my email every day called "My Daily Inspiration". If I find it could be relevant I will share it. I thought today was one of those days. Have a good one and I'll check in later.

Its good to hear that your throat is feeling better today. Are you keeping a journal so you can see if there is a pattern to your mood and the exact menus of the day?

I am strapped and prepared today, I brough all three meals with me including my snacks to work like I have been doing the past three weeks. Guess what happens then. My boss calles her managers into a meeting to tell us that our salaries will be impacted in one shape or another come January, so I found out my individual impact and was immediately stressed. I had floats of burgers and fries spinning around in my head. Then she freakin offers to buy lunch for the entire office. I politely said no thank you and went to the bathroom to pray the thoughts of grease filled foods out of my head. So here I still stand and have had my second meal for the day on "MY" menu and can't wait for an hour to pass to go work out. UGH..........

My Mom came by and dropped off the Turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Her and her husband know we needed the help and have never done that before so it was very much appreciated. I have been buying and hosting all holidays, every year and usually just say "bring yourselves, nothing else". This year I am not going to be so proud, or stupid.

My Mom also told me she was making a pumpkin pie, german chocolate cake (one of my favorites!) and some special mincemeat cookies...........ok, sit those in front of me and I'm pretty much safe from wanting one! Please don't think I am being ungrateful, I love my Mom and she is such a good baker. Better yet she taught me well and I too am a good baker but this is part of the reason for the weight gain. I appreciate everything she brings and does and those cookies are a blessing in a mincemeat disguise!

Here's hoping you will all have at least one dessert for your Thanksgiving that will turn you off and make you go "I think I'll pass"!

Hi ladies! Sorry I was absent yesterday and earlier today. I work as a counselor and educator part-time, intern as a school counselor part-time, and go to graduate school double time. Phew. So sometimes it's hard for me to log on "for fun." But it was really nice being able to catch up on the thread and see how everyone's doing.

I'm sad hearing about your struggles with your thyroid, but am grateful that it has been controlled. Absolutely the things you consume will be affecting how you feel, since your body and hormones are in a different kind of balance than most. I echo Equinata's thoughts that keeping a mood/food journal might be helpful. I wish you all the best and appreciate how much support you've given this group!

I'm so sorry your salary will be impacted, but definitely grateful that you have kept your job. Too many people out of work or underemployed. And you are now my new hero -- I don't know that I would have been able to keep the greasy day dreams out of my head for too long! Congratulations. You give me hope!

I know it can be super hard to make time to plan the night before, especially when you have a kid to take care of and a million other things to worry about. But it is totally worth it. And I kind of like walking around campus with my cute little lunch box :D And make sure to vary it up. I for one get bored if I'm eating the same thing over and over.

I'm totally going to try that garbanzo recipe. And I know there's a FS granola recipe that my sister makes. It's super yummy too, and has Dr. Ian's blessing. Since my schedule is really hectic and I don't always have a fridge/microwave, I love snacks like carrots, cut apples (whole apples are too messy for me), and plenty of grapes.

I'm on the original FS diet. My sister did the EFS last challenge, and there's NO WAY I could handle it. A cup of garbanzo beans and a serving of veggies for dinner. Nope, not gonna happen. But I love the FS since I feel like I get to eat a lot, even thought I don't always get to eat the things I crave. Last time I fell in love with the FS pizza that I found on here. If anyone's interested I can find the link. It takes a while but is totally worth it when I feel like I'm going to break. And I'll be sure to limit my cheese/dairy intake. I know I should, but I just loooove my cheese.

Anyways, I look forward to catching up with all of you tomorrow. It's back to papers and studying for me. Good luck all!

I have been on the computer for awhile but have been reading emails & articles before reporting in here. It's great to hear from all of you and the support of each other is wonderful!


Tomorrow is my weigh in for my "Repeat FS Phase 1 Detox". I'm pretty sure that I won't match or even come close to the 4.6 lbs I lost the last time.


I think initially when you start it definitely is a more extreme detox then the body is used to. Then with just one day off I repeated the phase. By then my body was more used to that way of eating. I can't imagine how now heading into Phase 2 tomorrow and adding meats & more foods that I can continue to lose. All I can say is "I'll try my best" and step away from the dessert table on Thanksgiving!


You do have an awful lot going on in your life. It sounds like you are doing great and the thought of you with your little lunchbox on campus is adorable...and commendable! I have been doing a journal of my food but not also keeping track of how I feel when I've eaten particular foods. I'll have to do that or I won't get to the bottom of these mostly night time blahs. Keep up the good work and thanks for the advice & support.

I'm hoping that you are on the FS as this is what I can relate with. It seems that you can have your breakfast, one snack and lunch before you get to class is that correct? Do they give you time in between for another snack? I used to work 45 minutes away from home and so I know that eating on the road can lead to big messes. The safest foods are still always going to be cut up fruits or veggies, zip lock bags are the best. No fumbling with containers while driving. I have to repeat myself again, it's all about pre-planning. Takes time at the time but saves you calories later.

Apples have fiber and along with some water on the way home can help curb your ravenous appetite. This will hopefully eliminate the need to tear the door off the fridge upon walking in. Grapes are an easy, non messy snack too. Baby carrots, cut up celery, cucumbers, you pick. Want something "salty"? Make some roasted garbanzo beans, bake them in bulk and store them in an airtight container. Divvy them out into your little bags for the road but beware, they can become addictive! My whole family eats mine now and loves them! Have you been on the recipes on here? I'll see if there is anything else I can suggest and let you know. Good Luck.


Hey, sorry I am just getting back. Yes, I am FS, I have to restart phase 1 again. This will be the last time. On a good day, my I got up in enough of time to eat before clinicals. My schedule is changing again next semester, but I see the value of planning ahead now.

How do you make roasted garbanzo beans? About what temp do you put the oven on. I am trying to plan ahead, this time. Scheduling has never been my strong point, which is not good. But I am going to get reaccquinted with this site again. Along with the recipes.

Hello Ladies,

It is definitely a struggle when you are so busy to have to plan your meals in advance. It's adding "one more thing" to your already over scheduled day. However, you will find that once you start it WILL get easier. Some things can be prepared in bulk.

On my very first day I made a homemade pot of spaghetti sauce. I limited the salt for me but took some out and added more salt for the family. I divided my larger portion and made chili using the tomato sauce as the base. Now mind you this process of making, dividing, and separating in smaller containers for freezing did take me close to 2 hours, but it has been extremely worth it.

This gave me sauce for my brown rice spaghetti (not sure if this was fully approved but it has worked for me), used it for my eggplant "parmigiana" of course minus the actual cheese! I ate the chili by itself and used it for a "mexican" salad. I add salad veggies of choice, a little vegetarian cheddar cheese, some nonfat plain yogurt for the sour cream and about half cup of chili, yum! Wait, I forgot about the crunch of the tortilla strips........of course we can't have those!

But, this is where the roasted garbanzo beans come in. Toss them in any salad and they make you think you have those tortilla strips or croutons. The recipe is on a link I provided on an earlier post. It goes to a website called Sparkpeople where I do my meal tracking and recipes. All of the information for the recipe as well as the nutritional facts are there.

As far as us staying motivated, hmmmmmm. Well I personally feel like it comes from within. It was a choice, a determination to not want to be this way anymore. Have I started diets before and faltered? Of course I have and I am pretty sure so has everyone else here. YOU just have to want it. It really comes down to that. You can't make excuses for not doing this or not doing that because in the end who does that hurt? YOU!

Myself for example, I promised myself that after I did Phase 1 with only 3 days of exercising that I would make myself repeat the phase and THIS time exercise at least 5 days out of the week. You know what? I just finished my second repeat of phase 1 and I only exercised 2 days this time! I stuck to my diet plan (mostly) and yet still did nothing to improve my end result. Who's fault is that? MINE! I didn't push myself to do it. I didn't motivate myself to do it, I wasn't determined to do it. So, I am sure I did not lose as much weight as I could have had I done what I knew I was suppose to do.

Again, it was a choice. I have one, you have one. When you are ready to make that choice and commitment to yourself I am sure you will. That doesn't mean if you make that choice you still won't "fall off", but if you are truly determined you will get back on and continue, and harder that next time. I certainly have been exactly where you are now. Schedule is so busy that you just don't feel you are able to add one more thing into it. If you are ready this time, or when you are ready, YOU will make the choice and the time to take care of yourself. In the meantime, we are here for you for support, suggestions, or whatever you need.

I hope you don't think I am scolding because I certainly didn't mean to sound like that. I just want you to know that I (we) do understand what you are going through but it really does come from within, YOU have to be ready.

I gotta go, I have an 11 year old that is just hanging off the chandelier waiting to go see New Moon that we have tickets to at noon!

Hello Ladies,

I had a full evening last night as one of the organizations I belong to and serve on the board had a celebration for it's 37th Anniversary with a nice spread, that actually fell right into my menu choices. Very great for me. \

I am still stuck with the same weight for the second week and my motivation is knowing that it will take longer to come off than it did to stay on and I must stay stedfast on my journey to succeed.

Congrats Jan on your 3 pound loss. You go girl!

Life4ver practice makes close to perfect. Keep practicing and then it will be second nature. (

Hi Ladies,

Hope you all are doing well and staying on track this weekend. A slight slip yesterday at the movies for me with a handful of popcorn and a couple sweet tarts minis but nothing too drastic. Overall I stayed within my calorie allotment that I have set for myself but not perfect on the FS allotment!

Yesterday was the first day on Phase 2 for me. I still didn't alter my menu much other than my earlier confession and adding one whole egg to my breakfast as opposed to just the liquid whites. This was allowed so that was ok. Stayed pretty much vegetarian the rest of the day...past the movie indulgence!

I also went to the bookstore last night and got the actual book to refer to. I had been getting my information for Phase 1 online from here and various sources but on Phase 2 felt it was incomplete. Now that I have read through the book I can see what some others have said in regards to what is allowed and what is contradicting in some of the sample meals and recipes. It's nothing major and can easily be altered, or not, without much difference.

On Phase One I was weighing in at a half way point and then at the end after the 9 days were over. With the new phase being 3 weeks long, I think I will just go forward from last weigh in (yesterday) and weigh myself once a week on the same day.

This Phase will take me to December 11th and at that point I can re-assess. If I find I need an extra little push before Christmas then I can revert back to a round of Phase 1 before the actual day of celebratory eating again!

Well ladies, that's my weekend and my plan for getting through the holidays. Have YOU consciously thought of or made YOUR plans for a healthy holiday?

Hi ladies! What an eventful weekend! It started off with the midnight show of New Moon -- no, I am not 11, but I still found myself screaming with all of my high school students when Jacob took off his shirt! And it ended with a ten o'clock munch on carrots. Overall it wasn't my best go at the diet, but it seems to be getting better. I always start off great with some oatmeal in the morning and a yogurt for a snack. But at the end of the day when I'm tired and hungry I tend to make poor choices. Plus I often end up eating out with my family, especially on the weekends.

My poor choices this weekend included popcorn at the movies, three cheese raviolis (but so worth it), and a half glass of red wine. I wonder how you all feel about slip ups. Do you start all over or vow to be "better" the next day?

Tomorrow's going to be tough since I'm buying boatloads of bagels for my students in the morning. I've always been a bread girl. I will not eat the bagels. I will not eat the bagels! If I can make it through that, I think tomorrow will be a good day.

I also started working out again. 40 minutes on the treadmill going uphill for what seemed like forever. I'm glad my knee cooperated, and I look forward to sticking to my schedule (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sun at the gym). Hopefully I can get in shape for the next 5k in March!

Thanks again all for the support. It's been refreshing to talk about all of this with women (besides my mom and sister) who get it. Good luck this week!

Plus they have a data base so you can look up the nutritional facts if you don't have it in front of you. I still think Calorie King's database is better, but their service isn't free anymore. Ok, my thoughts on "slipping up" is to get back to it as soon as possible. That has been the same encouragment as I have been giving myself & everyone else "get back on that diet horse" a.s.a.p!

I gave myself that advice when my daughter took us out to dinner last weekend to Olive Garden. Afterwards I found out I ate over 400 calories worth of the darn salad alone! Warning, warning, the Olive Garden salad (as they serve it) is NOT a good choice! That was for one serving too! The whole meal which was the salad and an appetizer portion left me with over 1100 calories for that meal alone. This was NOT a good choice of restaurants for this diet!

Ok, getting back to your question. Personally, if I had a few days in a row of slipping up or even a few days out of the 9 on the detox phase I would repeat it. That could be as soon as that next day or finishing out the 9 days with a galant effort and seeing where that left you on the scale. Seeing the numbers on the scale should motivate you one way or the other!

We are not here to judge one another but just to give support and encouragement. However, since I am so long winded it could seem like I am judging or at best giving a sermon but believe me that is not my intent! LOL

I think you need to do what is right for you. You have a very specific reason for losing weight and getting in shape.....your marathon. This does put you on a tighter timeline then the rest of us though so guage yourself accordingly. I commend you for taking on that challenge!



How was your weekend and how did you do on your exercising and/or eating? I saw that you are taking the approach of tackling one thing at a time. If this works for you and makes it not so overwhelming then I say "go for it". Baby steps, none of us started out running!

I am here ladies and today I am on day 2 of cycle one for the second time still with no weight loss, but no weight gain either especially knowing that AF could show any day I am happy I have not gained anything. I am hoping that the scale will take a dive once she leave me. LOL

What has the scale been telling you around your time of the month when dieting? I always think it's about 3 to 4 pounds hight during this time.

One more thing I wanted to share. Even if the pounds are not shedding the change is helping whether you know it or not. Friday I had my physical and my doc was excited about hearing me doing something about my weight as he seen the decrease since the last time I was in his office. All of my test results are back except the Thyroid tes which I didn't even have to ask for he recommended it as he feels that might be a reason why I am having a hard time getting rid of the weight. Well, I can testify that the scale is not moving but I'm healthier than my muscular built husband and he lost about 18 lbs in the same 3 weeks as he did the diet with me. My blood pressure was perfect, cholesterol great, Sugar test great, liver, kidney.... Thank the lord for keeping me.... This is motivation for me outside of the weight dropping. So yes I'm obese, but I'm healthy and plan to stay that way. I told my hubby he needs to step up and work out - he has it too easy with his natural muscular build for now. LOL

See ladies the fruits of your labor will come in one form or another. (

If you go into the "Quick Links" button above there is an option (now that we are eligible) for "Edit Signatures". If you go into that there will be a box that looks just like the one we write our posts in but it says "edit signature".

You can add what you want along with your tracker link as long as you are using the websites icons and it dosen't exceed 600 characters total.

This was a toughy for me since I am so detailed. I will have to edit mine as I want to add more dates of progress....and I am being optimistic that I WILL have more dates of progress to have to edit for! Let me know if you need any more help.

Well, today was officially one big mess up. Sadly I did not properly plan out my meals (and I woke up late and had to be out the door in 30 minutes), and after the first four hours of our sex ed day (did I mention I'm a sex ed teacher?), I gave in to the bagel. It definitely helped me get through hours five and six, but dang it! I entered it into the calorie counter, and even though I totally failed, it made me feel a little better to know that my bagel of choice is a C+, as opposed to an F-.

I think I'm just going to start on Day 1 of Phase 1 all over again tomorrow. Which will make Thanksgiving dinner very very interesting. A local farmers market has tofurkeys on sale. Has anyone tried them before? I don't know if that's what Dr. Ian had in mind when he said "good sources of protein," but come on!

Well just wanted to check in with everyone earlier. My partner and I are off to the gym in a bit, and then I think it's going to be a nice clean salad for me tonight. Probably followed by more carrots. Tomorrow's weigh in #3. I'll make sure to check in with you right after. Wish me luck!

Quick update I went to the gym yesterday, Sunday. I had to drive right past it to drop off my time sheets for work. Anyway I did about 30 minutes on the eliptical and did some ab work. It wasn't so bad yesterday but today I am a little sore. My eating habits have been not so great. But I am taking baby steps.

Yay for getting your signature! :carrot: My daughter made her first ham the other night and sent me pictures....I was salivating looking at it! :ink: I have to remember that not only is it not good for my weight but would send my blood pressure through the roof! Wahhhhhhh I love ham! LOL
I had my first "meat" last night on Phase 2, it was roasted chicken breast. As much as I liked it before I realize that part of the reason was I was eating the crunchy wings and skin. Without that it just wasn't the same but let me know I didn't totally miss "meat" as much as I thought. Hope you enjoy your low fat banana pudding. I'm still deciding on whether I am going to make something special for myself or just have a sliver of pumpkin whipped cream!

:write: What I think I am going to do is put what I WANT to have in my menu planner (within reason) and see what that does for my calorie, fat, sugar count. If I can handle that and eat lightly the rest of the day then I will.


Is your real name Yumi? If so, that is beautiful. I know Equinata's real name & I have to say if that is your real name mine is soooo boring in comparison! I would say "no worries" on the bagel if you are trying to still eat right the rest of the time. As long as it's not a bagel every day!

I'm not sure if you really want to start Phase 1 over BEFORE Thanksgiving but if you can handle it then I say "good for you"! :chin:"Tofurkey".....that was one of the funniest things I heard a couple years ago when my oldest daughter told me what they were having for Thanksgiving! She is a vegetarian and so is her girlfriend. Thier husbands still incorporate some seafood and poultry into their daliy diets but the girls are mostly vegetarians.

They have had Thanksgiving with their friends for the last two years and with the infamous "tofurkey". She said it wasn't bad but then again she is used to eating that way. I have never asked her what it tasted like in comparison to real turkey which she used to eat before converting. If you get one, let us know how it was!

In closing the only thing I have to say about you being a sex education teacher is hmmmmmm, interesting job!

My mother in law calls me up because she knows I have been fighting the buldge for some time now and ask me to look into it for her, so I did and I read more good than bad, however you still have to be weary about introducing hormones into your body. YAY! We just finished the weigh in and I won! Even with all of my indiscretions I managed to lose 2.4lbs. Which means I didn't have to cough up any money into the jar...a good thing, since I'm losing hours this week. I'm i'm hoping this is the motivation I need to keep on my diet and exercise. I had a great workout last night (solo, since my partner was too tired to move off the couch) and a good food day all day. I even bought my first tofurkey, though I'm not going to get mad at myself if I don't stick to the plan on Thursday.

Thanks for sending out those tips, Jan. I think it's ridiculous that we have to be reminded to be nice to ourselves, but it's true. I know I definitely get mad at myself when I fall off the wagon, and I also know that negativity makes it harder to get the weight off. One big ugly cycle.

Equinata, I haven't heard about that diet before, but any time we add hormones into our body, we disturb the natural balance, which always affects our weight. I was diagnosed with PCOS, which means that my hormones are out of their mind. So I have to be super careful about what I put into my body. I'm hoping that I'll finally be able to reach the tipping point in my weight loss so my hormones even out. Til then, it's an uphill battle.

Live4evr -- congrats on keeping up with the workouts. Do you ever do the treadmill? It's my cardio of choice, after seeing how many calories I burn when walking straight uphill for 45 minutes. Are you incorporating weights too? Even light weights can help boost metabolism.

Spinsistah, I was just coming in to post. Well I did the treadmill today. It was okay. I had avoided it for a while, I have had shin splints before and sometimes the treadmill aggravates it. But today I decided to try. I figured I could always hop off and switch if it got to bad. No I haven't incorporated weights just yet. I will probably do that soon. Trying to get my cardio up a little bit before I do.

Today is a good day for me and I will do exactly what I planned for Thursday, just eat a very little of what I really want and my low fat desert. I will still get up at 5AM to do my normal exercise and do an extra one before heading to the dinner to try to balance that meal out. I am once again motivated as I am on my cycle and the scale finally budged not much but I will take the one pound. Yay!!!!!! I am one pound closer to onderland.

That's great that you still went to the gym even though your partner didn't feel like it. Congrats on the 2.4 lb loss! It's also good to hear that there is another Biggest Loser fan here! It's one of my favorite shows and is so inspirational. I don't know that I could do what they do everyday with those workouts but then again I'm sure given that same opportunity I would. It's so life changing for all of them but especially for those that are really big. I am anxious the see Shay at the finale to see how she has done. Do you think they will invite her back next season like they did Daniel this season? So, you made the plunge for that Tofurkey! Let us know how it was, not that I ever see myself getting one but would like to know just the same how you liked it!


Glad to here that you went and worked out. Baby steps, baby steps. If you are not ready to do the weights yet then continue on with what has worked for you. Some exercising is better than none, which I am mostly guilty of! I am getting the food under control but gettingout there and even walking I whine about. I know I will not get in my ultimate shape without it so there is going to have to come a time when I get as determined to do that as changing my eating habits. Keep, keeping on!

I have got alot of cleaning to do to get ready for tomorrow. Have my middle daughter driving up from Ft. Lauderdale tonight with her boyfreind. I think I am actaully going to see my son and his girlfriend too who live in the same town but have been absent from my life for more than a month now. Gave him his old room back for a few days when the "you know what" hit the fan with his girlfriend and her family. He makes ammends, takes his clothes back out while I was out, and I have not heard a thing from him since. It's been a good month and a half with no thank you, hello, phone call, nothing. I have been told he is coming over today to see me and believe me we will be having a discussion about being "thankful"! Chances are he will be having dinner at her family's house tomorrow which is the norm and I may get them for dessert. I guess I'm just more hurt than anything but we'll get over it.

I do hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving Day. How did you all eat today? I stayed within my plan but really did want more desserts then I had allowed myself. I had the sliver of pumpkin pie that I wrote in plus then had 2 bites..that's it, of my Mom's chocolate cake! Still within my daily plan but it was a hard resisting day!

It was very nice here, uneventful which is always good. I even had my son join us! His girlfriend's family was eating later and so she stayed to help prepare their meal. She actually "let" him come over by himself though, so that was nice.

Both of them came over last night after my daughter and her boyfriend got here. We all played poker together and it was fun....would have been better had I not been so tired from cleaning and cooking all day but I'm glad we got together just the same.

I made sure I took my son aside and told him that I was upset that I had not heard from him in over a month. I said "please just try to call your old Mom to check in and say hello every two weeks at least". Since I broke down and cried, he understood that I was serious about being hurt and missing him. My 6'3 son said "Mom, don't cry, you are going to make me cry", that was sweet!

Everyone has returned home and we are now settling in for the night with a movie. The cool front is coming in and we have gone from the A/C on to windows open quickly. Tomorrow and this weekend should be "crisp", the weather man says the coldest weather we have had so far this season. Going to be in the 40's tomorrow night and just in the upper 60's to low 70's on Saturday, refreshing! Tomorrow should be gorgeous! I'm sure that all of you in Georgia and North Carolina are feeling this too....only colder!

I hope everyone did as they planned for Thanksgiving dinner. I stayed within my plan as well. My low fat/cal banana pudding went over big time so did my ham. Yay... There was plenty of desert and my dear husband decided to make two pecan pies last minute and they laughed at them, but he tried and ofcourse I did not take a taste. lol We played cards, looked at pictures, took pictures, and laughed. Christmas is at my house this year so I have to get it together. I am trying to start getting what I need now.

Anyone have lunch ideas for FS detox that dont need to be heated?
DH and I want to give it a go again but he is worried about his lunch he has no way of heating anything. He could tke veg soup in a thermos I guess but thats basically what we will be having every night for dinner.
So anyone have any fab lunch and dinner ideas that work for the first 9 days?

Sounds like you did well with your day yesterday, good for you! I was famished by early evening and got into some turkey again but stayed within my range for the day still. Sent most of the desserts home with the family just keeping enough here for my husband and daughter to finish off by today...hopefully!

Don't worry about one day. I had my share of getting into the pumpkin pie yesterday too. I still stayed within my plan range for the day but it definately was not part of the excepted foods for Phase 2! Just get back to it today and do your best.

Today was my weigh in for my first week of Phase 2. A combination of Thanksgiving indulgence along with little exercise made for very little improvement this week. I was only down .8 oz :goodscale, better than up!

Gonna go and I'll check in tonight. I know that weekends tend to be quieter around here since hopefully everyone is having family time.

I'm doing the EFS so I am no help with meal ideas for the first nine days of the FS diet.
For those of us who did not do to well on Thursday "stuff happens" don't beat yorself up, do the best to stick to plan now that its over and Christmas goodies are right around the corner and I am sure some of us will be taking about not doing to well again.Its hrd when everyone round you is eating so many tasty things.

You sound "motivated", that's great to hear! The planning of your meals will really help. If you are a member of Sparkpeople already then that site is a good tool for your meal planning. If you have not used it however, it could be complicated to start. The ladies here gave a couple more, calorieking I think and there was another. Go back in the posts and see. Either way, good luck and let us know if you need any help.

Ladies, I have been half cheating all weekend myself. As long as I was not really eating sweets I was ok. Then I got some real sweets in me for Thanksgiving and never really fully backed off. It's not that I have completely overindulged. I have stayed within my daily meal plan limits I have set for myself, but I have certainly not stayed within the FS plan the last few days. I did go out and take a 2 1/2 mile bike ride Friday and Saturday night for exercise but I'm not sure that will pay off in the end. I will continue marching on like the rest of you, and confess my sins along the way while trying my best. Catch ya tomorrow.

I say "Amen" to the last part of your post! I'm glad that you are familiar with SP because I really like it. The recipe base is great although some recipes need some conversion for our meal plan. I have about a dozen recipes on there of my own, some "good" as in healthy and others that are family favorites where I have a "warning, indulge at your own risk" type! :hun:


Wow, it must have been pizza weekend! My husband ordered pizza and wings yesterday. :jeno::chicken: I wanted some but resisted. He kept saying "why do you keep looking over at the table where the pizza is, you know you are not suppose to eat that". I said "I know, I am just taking in the aroma"! I say to you "get back to it sister, today is a brand new day". Step away from the leftover pizza, go make yourself a salad, you'll love yourself for it! LOL

I hope to see some weight loss this week, otherwise, I don't know whatelse I could do to drop the pounds maybe quit working out so much. I don't know. I wish I had some tried & true methods for moving the scale but I am certainly no expert. I do have a few questions though.
1) Are you tracking and logging your total food intake?
2) How about nutrients or more importantly sodium, fats, sugars, etc.?
3) Did you take your measurments at some point?
4) Do you have, or is there a trainer at your gym that you can ask questions
regarding food/nutrient intake vs amount of or type of exercise you have been doing?

Since muscle weighs more than fat, you may be building muscle while working out and this is why it is not showing as a loss on the scale. Are you doing alot of cardio that would be burning calories or more strength training? Anyway, this is just my personal "food for thought"!

I have a terrible headache this morning and this computer keeps acting up and erasing everything I have written. I'm going to go before I scream and/or throw this $#*&^@ computer out the window!

Jan I am sorry you are having such a hard morning. I hope you get some rest so that headache will subside. I have been keeping track of what I'm eating as it is a set menu on the EFS and it is little to no sugar at all. I have been working out 5 days a week with more resistance than cardio so I do believe I am putting on muscle which is another reason why I have not been killing you ladies with that scale not budging. I did not take measurements, however I am back in my 16 pants comfortable so I do notice inches moving downward. My belly has started to form what is really a stomach at this point and my side love handles have almost vanished. I'm going to continue with the same workouts until my boot camp and then after I will repeat the diet with just minimal cardio that is suggests. I want to be toned not flabby when I lose the weight.

See you answered your own question without really needing me to help. Lets see, you fit more comfortable in the pants that were once too snug, you are noticing more definition in your stomach and your love handles are no longer. First off I say "hoorah"! Second of all, you are doing great, that scale is not the only indication that your body is improving. You keep going girl!

I do see your point in wanting to be toned once you lose the weight instead of flabby. That is my concern since I don't work out much. In the end I am sure you will be in better shape then I will be.

I am restarting on Thursday, 12-3. Simply because I have a trip planned to Outback tomorrow, a I survived the first semester of clinicals. So I allready know that wouldn't go well. Off to do some work and study.

Good Morning Ladies,

I have been missing The biggest loser for the past two shows, so I am lost at this point. I'll catch up online I guess.

Jan, I figured out one more thing with the EFS that causes me to stall instead of dropping a pound on the scale and it's that darn brown rice. I have eliminated the brown rice from this weeks menu - so when it tells me to have brown rice as one of my items for the meal I just don't eat it. I have lost a full pound since the final budge of the scale of 205 so I am at 204 today. Eventhough, Sunday is my official weigh date - I'll take the 1 pound drop. I hope to be at wonderland by the 14th which is when my bootcamp starts and I am hoping to lose at least ten pounds by the end of boot camp hopefully putting me at the 189 mark then I can go for my next 30lb loss. I know I'm trying to put some action plans together for this thing. LOL I plan to go back home to NYC to visit family in the spring and I want them to be floored when they see me, but mostly I want me to be floored when I see myself naked. I told my husband hopefully I will be able to get my breast down to a DD cup so I can finally shop for lingerie like regular women. Eventhough, I may not be huge I have some gigantic breast. They have always been big no matter the frame, but I am in a 36HH now and I tell him don't even think about going in to Victoria's Secret because I have more secrets than she could ever have. LOL

Life4ever I know how you feel about colds. I am fighting one now with old faithfully Zicam... That stuff is good! Continue to make baby steps with the workouts and before you know it you might be addicted. I roll out the bed with no problem now. It's been four consecutive weeks with my firm program and I will not miss my morning work out for anything now.

Sorry I was not on earlier, woke up with a migraine again this morning. I had one yesterday and it went away after taking my prescription meds but returned overnight with a vengeance. Once I took some more medicine today I felt better but then my daughter talked me into getting on a ladder to put up the Christmas lights. In hindsight it was probably not a good idea after being off kilter most of the day. It turned out ok though...well I didn't fall off the ladder anyway but as usual had an issue with the lights!

I have brown rice about 3 times a week and wonder how it's affecting me. I know it fills me up really quickly. Sounds good that you discovered that might be a culprit in your scale moving..or not. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will continue to see a decent loss by actual weigh in day.

As for the gigantic, I didn't see that confession coming! LOL I'm sure as you lose more weight they will get a bit more "reasonable". That is a lot of extra "boobie weight" that you are carrying also. They probably add an extra 5-8 lbs each! I'm sure you have suffered back & shoulder strain over the years also.

I know as I gained weight I went up in size to a 38D but not near what you have! My Mom was always big breasted with her biggest being a 40DD. My older daughters don't have much to speak of and always say "Mom why didn't you pass those to us like Grandma did to you"? My oldest doesn't have much more then a bud...and she's almost 29. That's not going to change now, not until maybe she has a baby. My middle daughter is a bit better but certainly not well endowed. My little one who is 11 can't wait to get "boobs". Some of the girls in her class already have some but they are also bigger in general. Brooke is very slim and so she has not "grown" yet, just taller. She takes her shirt off every day and tries to jump up and down to see if she has any movement yet....bless her heart. At least if she doesn't get much in time she won't be too far from what her big sissies have! OK enough boobie talk!



I hope you feel better soon. Just take this all one day at a time. Get your exercise in when you can and feel better. In the meantime, try to watch your food intake if you are still laid up. If you are not active you also don't want to be adding a lot of food to the mix. Last thing you want is to come out of feeling crappy and have gained weight too! Good vibes, wishes, and blessings coming your way!


We rented a movie and are going to sit down and all watch it together. Probably cry, it's MY Sister's Keeper, I hear it's a tearjerker.......any of you see it yet? Hope you all have a good evening.

I finally put my lights and tree up as well and it was a headache like always now I can't wait to take them down. My daughter tries to help but just gets in the way all the time. Next year I'm thinking about letting her decorate all by herself.

I am glad to hear both of you ladies are doing better and hope it continues.

I have not seen that movie so I will put it on my rental list.

Good Afternoon Ladies,

Another day, another migraine. Woke up with it being the worse of the last couple of days, I'm hoping this is the last. Already nauseous upon awaking, never a good thing. Managed to take my daughter to school but as soon as I got home I had to run right back into bed and curl up in a fetal position with a pillow so that I wouldn't throw up my expensive medicine I had already taken. A couple hours of that, an ice pack on my head, and I am feeling a bit better. Still not 100% but I'll take this in comparison to earlier.

My husband kept calling and was worried I had died or something. Wanted to make sure I got our daughter to school, but then again if I had not, she would have been calling him over and over again.

The movie was good, I've seen better and I've seen worse. The storyline was good. Thank you both for "weighing in" on whether or not you had seen it. I watch the show Medium and I thought the girl from that show that played the older sister in the movie did an excellent job. Enough said, Equinata has not seen it yet!


How old is your daughter again? I was always a control freak with all the kids and the holidays, the decoration, lights, tree, but I have "let go" in recent years. Started with the tree and me letting my little one decorate with the ornaments but when she went to sleep I would then rearrange them and "make them perfect". I have since given up on trying to be Ms. Perfect.

I now let her do whatever she wants with the tree after I get the initial lights on and was trying to let her do some of the outside lights yesterday. It was more of a teaching experience since she had not done the outside before and didn't want to be "taught" so we both became cranky! I am afraid to say that I have become more of a scrooge not caring if we do Christmas, lights, or a tree at all. If it wasn't for the nice smell the tree brings into the home I probably wouldn't care about that either.

Especially with me being out of work and trying to do the best for the kids all through the year it's just so senseless to put myself more in the poor house to have to do gifts all around and go through all of that. See, I am a scrooge! The older kids understand my logic and won't ask for anything but "because it's Christmas" I feel I have to get them gifts anyway as their mother. I want to, don't get me wrong, I love them so much and want to do all of this for them, it's just so tough financially I would prefer to just bury my head in the sand. It's hard to feel the joy. I want all my babies here together I just hate the obligation surrounding that togetherness, it's stressful. Wah, wah, wah, poor me, there are a lot people out there that have it much worse so I should just be grateful regardless. So now that I have expressed my royal scroogeness I'll shut up!


I do hope that you feel better. You literally have a lot of things going on in your life that can wear you down. "Burning the candle at both ends" comes to mind. Just remember that whether it is school, your diet, or other challenges you are facing, you are doing this all to better yourself and should feel proud. You will be making yourself a better, stronger, more productive person for the future. Anything worth doing is never easy, bit it IS worth it! We are here to support you as much as we can with the dieting part!

Hi ladies! I can't believe I've been off this site for over a week. Thanksgiving was really hectic and difficult, so I spent most of last week dealing with that. Although I did manage to get about 11 hours worth of shopping in on Friday with my sister -- I should look up how many calories we might have burned :D

Meals were fairly good, though I definitely didn't stick to the FS plan. I filled up with the tofurkey (which was waaaaay better than I anticipated), but still managed to put some stuffing and mashed potatoes. Plus I had half (but only half) of my auntie's cream cheese pumpkin muffins. Totally worth it though.

The rest of the weekend/early week has been spent catching up with school work. My classes were cancelled last week, so my professors gave us a boatload of work to turn in this week. Sheesh. I should've just gone to class.

But now I'm back and excited to catch up on all the happenings. Jan, I'm so sorry your health has been rough going. It makes me sad to know that you're in so much pain, yet still able to give all of us love and motivation to keep on pushing.

Ok, I should be working. Will check in later tonight.

Oh! And I forgot to mention that we had our 4th weigh in on Tuesday. We all managed to gain, but somehow I managed to gain the least (.4 lbs). It was a pretty bittersweet win, but now all three of us are back on track, so I expect big losses next weigh in.

Great to see you. Thank you for the kudos regarding trying to be supportive through my darn pain! I try to stay positive but some days it's just so hard.

Glad to hear the tofurkey turned out well. I'll mention it to my daughter that you liked it! They didn't have one this year. I forgot that they were in Ohio visiting her husband's family for Thanksgiving. Although his family are of Indian decent (from Guyana), and don't usually celebrate the same holidays as we do, the Aunt (who is American) still had the full out Thanksgiving dinner along with the traditional Indian food. Of course my daughter does not eat regular turkey (no meats at all actually) but I'm sure her husband enjoyed a taste of real bird instead of the tofurkey this year!

Great that through the whole holiday you only gained a few ounces. Regroup and continue on!


Thank you also for telling me how you appreciate my support through my pain. I am happy to say that as rough as yesterday started out it ended ok. I woke up with some partial pain this morning but overall, not bad at all. I have often wondered what my quality of life would be without migraines. I am hoping to find out after menopause! I'd say that 40 years is enough of head splitting pain! Unfortunately, I don't see myself getting past that point for another 5-10 years.

It's great if you can get others on board with you to do the EFS. It keeps you and them accountable more so then by yourself. Support and motivation is what helps keep you on track, as long as you are all looking at the same common goal.

I however only have the support of the ladies here. My husband is proud of me but continues to bring bad things in the home and eat them in front of me. I was hungry last night when we were out and was waiting to come home to have a "decent" snack. I felt bad that I got the remark from both my husband and daughter that "we can't go to Burger King or McDonald's because you can't have it". I told them they were more than welcome to but despite being disrespectful to me, we also don't have the money right now to be making those fast food runs just for the heck of it. They didn't stop at either of those places, but my husband still stopped at the convenience store and let my daughter get "snacks". Pizza rolls and some other kind of junk. Ok, where was the monetary or nutritional value in that over the fast food run? My husband and I are never going to be on the same page regarding money. Ok, enough complaining about the family!

The thing with your daughter being "8 going on 18" sounds familiar. They always seem to want to add 10 years, mine is "11 going on 21". We actually have been having some behavioral problems with her and so started some counseling last week. It was just my husband and I basically telling the counselor about our history in order for her to determine how we have screwed her up! She is also having issues in school that she never had before, mostly in comprehension of math and reading...this was something she was a whip on early on so it does not make sense. The math was always a struggle but more so since they started algebra.

Anyway, my daughter goes by herself next week to the counselor. The counselor had asked if she was ever medically or developmentally tested. They tested her hearing and vision in school early on but never for anything else and not since. She has seen the regular Dr. for check ups but again not to be tested for anything specific. My husband was afraid they would automatically say she had ADD and would be given medication to make her a zombie. I told him the Dr.'s know best (most of the time) and if it is determined that's what she needs to feel like the other children, to be able to focus, comprehend, and learn without such a struggle, then we should try. Anyone here have experience with this where you could weigh in?

Hey Jan,

I've noticed my daughter struggling with reading and have since got her a tutor so hopefully this will correct the problem. I do not know about the behavioral thing though as you have way more experience than I do with children. I do know that when I was 11 I was pretty hard to except I still did well in school to make up for the hard times I gave my mom. Hopefully, the therapy will help her and she is just in a phase right now.

Thanks for responding about the daughter issues. When my daughter was your daughters age she was an absolute whip on reading. She was part of a school challenge for amount of books read and everything. She has a good friend who we have over almost every weekend, she always brings a book and reads before bed every night. Grant it, it's usually Twilight or New Moon but she's still reading up a storm. My daughter has just lost interest as her comprehension has not been as easy to her.

I am hoping we will get to the bottom of it all through the therapy and possible testing. It's upsetting to see a little one of only 11 going through issues and acting out about things she may not even understand. We have also asked about tutoring (especially for math) but the school system is limited and only gives them help during FCAT testing. We would have to hire a private tutor (which is what you may have) but they are so expensive and right now we can't afford it. We'll start with where we are, see what is suggested and then go from there. We have to get her straightened out before she really heads into the's all downhill from there!

On a "lighter" note, today was my weigh in. :goodscale: I was shocked, I was hoping for maybe 1-1/2 lbs but I had a 3 lb loss this week! I don't know how that happened but I'll take it!


OK, got to run, hubby is saying the pan is hot for my breakfast!

I'm feeling a little queasy this morning, think I ate some bad fish last night. I received my new scalr that shows body fat and water hydrstion and will be trying it out tomorrow for weigh in.

I'm sorry that you are (were) not feeling well. Usually if it's bad food you would feel it pretty quickly after eating. Either way, I hope you are feeling better. Your new scale sounds cool. Let us know how it weighs you in tomorrow!

Tonight we had a parade for my daughter who is in baton. It was a Christmas parade, preceded with the city tree lighting and following with fireworks. It was really nice and they all did well. It was a brisk, breezy 59 degrees but the downpours that we had most of the day didn't come back. Last night she had one in another city but the rains were coming right at that time and it was cool out also so we decided to skip that one. We were told by those that went that everyone got rained on and then were cold the rest of the parade.

Regardless that I didn't go to the parade, I spent last night finishing the Christmas the rain and coolness. I ended up waking up with a scratchy throat, itchy internal ears and feeling generally crappy. This too shall pass.

Oh and tonight they also had different vendors including elephant ears, caramel apples, those great roasted sweet almonds, but I did nothing but breath in the aromas! I'm glad no one else decided to get those things either. I did however come home and am now baking my famous Banana Bread. I have made some alterations to it though. It is still about 250 calories per piece for a 12th of a bundt cake size so it's an indulgence still. It needs to either be my full breakfast allowance or a major big snack. Only thing is even as hungry as I am right now, it's way too late to be eating it. I'll have something but need to keep it to a minimum at this hour.

Well let me know tomorrow or Monday how your weigh in did. Feel better.

;)Good morning Chicks! Just wanted to say "hello." I haven't been on FS this week, but I will very soon. I've been dealing with some issues lately and God has really answered my prayers. So just trying to get things moving in the right direction. Anywho...I haven't been eating like a pig either:0) I'm more conscious of what I'm eating. Hello All,
My name is Salesse and I am a 23 year old mother of a 3 year old daughter Serenity. I work full time, go to school full time, and am a full time mother so its hard to find the time for me. But this is my first post, and I am weighing in at 159 as of 7 days ago. I am on day 7 of Fat Smash Phase one Detox... now i have not cheated once as far as food is concerned, but i did go out last night for a friends birthday and had one glass of moscato, and 2 cranberry and Ciroc's (vodka). Besides that i am doing well. I have worked out 4 of the 7 days for newhere between a half hr and one hr. n the AM:D and will hopefully hit the treadmill 2nite FYI : i was gettin soo tired of brown rice and beans with steam veggies and alternating with salads and oatmeal, that i made the most DELISH dinner 2nite. Instead of brown rice.. i found brown rice noodles and made fresh tomato sauce with a piece of "chicken" ..its really Quorn product, which is made out of some type of mushrooms or something, either way it was really good and under 450 Cal!! hope 2 see everyone around..ill b in quite often :D

Sounds like you are doing well so far. Creativity with what ingredients are allowed is the key to success in this diet. Have you done it before or is this your first time? Please let us know how your weigh in goes in a couple days. We are a small group but very supportive. Not here to judge if you "fall off the wagon" with food........or alcoholic beverages! LOL You are doing great with your exercising amount, I commend you since I am horrible with that part! Anyway, hope you will stay around and let us know if you have any questions, concerns and how you are doing.


Nice to hear that you are going to re-commit yourself to the plan. I have personally found if you are not totally ready to give yourself up to any diet plan then you will not continue. Life gets busy and then other things take priorty as opposed to dieting. It's a choice and a willingness to decide to take control no matter what life throws us. However, sometimes that is just too much to add to an already overloaded schedule. I have "been there and done that" many times. I give you credit for making this attempt during an already busy time for you. You know we are here to support matter what!

I have not seen you yet this morning but I am sure you will be here soon. Hope you had a nice weekend.

I have a task at hand for the next week and this is my story to describe it.


Something about the author: My name is Jan and I'm a sweetaholic. :cookie:

I love to bake. :chef: I'm not professional by any means but I enjoy it.

The bad part? You guessed it, I EAT it! :hungry:

So with that, here is my story.

My Love Story............

:cheers: It's a love affair, between me & "sweets". "Sweets" and I have been together for many years. Seems like forever that we have gone hand in hand together down a road that is laced with sugar, fat, and empty calories.

He's sweet on me and dosen't care about my extra weight. As long as I am willing to consume him, he will be here for me. I can't help it, I just crave him. He is sweet as pie, as gooey as a warm chocolate chip cookie, and his sweet aroma just makes him so irresistable! I just can't seem to keep my hands off "sweets" and I am embarrased to say, he's all over me too...on my hips, my thighs, my behind, you get the idea.

"Sweets" says he loves me but I'm afraid I have to end our unhealthy relationship. His "sweetness" is so controlling that some days he's in my thoughts for hours. I told him that he either needs to "lighten up" or it's over! I said there are ways that we can enjoy eachother's company without it being so obsessive, such a strain on my heart & body.

I set down the new rules of our relationship. First, "sweets" needs to get on this program with me. He has to cut back on calories, fats, cholesterol and sugars. Next, he has to be reasonable about the amount of time we spend together. I can only be with him just a couple times a week. I told him that he can't be all over me anymore, I just won't have it!

I am altering my recipes for life! "Sweets" may not adjust well, he might fall, he might crumble, he may just not be sweet enough anymore. If this happens, it will be "tough cookies". I will have to cut "sweets" out of my life completely. I'll let you know how this love affair goes.



So, the reason for this quirky story? If I want to take control of my sweet habit then I need to learn how to successfully adjust my recipes! This is my task at hand for the week as the holiday cookies are expected for the family! I am going to try the favorite first...Linzer Tarts. I'll use my husband & daughter as the guinea pigs before sending any out!

Please share with me any challenges you may have this holiday season.

Life4ever I hope you meant a flop as not following exactly as planned, but if you still made good choices don't count it out. I have been doing the maintenance portion of my diet versus the strict menus as this week has been hectic, but it is working. I'm dropping faster using the maintenance skills that following the menu. I do make sure to eat as frequent as the menu's tell me to.

Jan - Your story is so real life. It's better to try to live with him before just leaving him altogether. LOL I am sure it will turn out just fine and they probably won't even notice the difference, but you may. LOL

And Thanks I am on day 9 and besides the drinking on Friday night, i have stuck with it. I can commit to these short term things, but i do need to work on my long term committment. I loved your story about your "obsessive" relationship with your sweets LOL.. that was great! I started my journey at about 160 or 159.5 somewhere in between there, and on day nine morning weigh in, im at 151.5! whohoo..verry exciting ! So i have decided to do phase ONE again on Monday for about 5-7 days! tommorrow i will get into phase TWO finally! i will be frugal about meat though, mayb only once a day, or some deli meat in my salad. I am afraid of falling back to the same place where not being aware of what i am putting in my mouth, and late night snacking on chips and dip! or worse brownies and cookies by the package in a few days. I will be checking in daily with you ladies so hopefully we can motivate each other!!

Nice to see you returning to check in. You did fantastic on your Phase 1!!!


Especially since you are not as heavy as most of us here. Usually the less you weigh (or have to lose) the less you do lose with a plan like this. This makes it extra great that you took off 8 lbs in 9 days! I believe that it was Ian Smith's intentions when doing the Phase 1 as "detox" phase to drop the most amount of weight. This is to prep your body for the other phases to follow. You seem like you did as you were supposed to and achieved a wonderful end result!

I lost about 4 1/2 lbs when I started but was not religious with the exercising and I'm still not. So, I repeated the full cycle of Phase 1 and said that I would work out more.....and still didn't. I lost 3 lbs the second time mostly I think because at this point my body was more used to eating healthy...and I didn't work out.

I started Phase 2 a couple weeks ago and felt as you did that I didn't want to add too much into my meal planning and blow it. I have stayed with most of the same things with the addition of some lean meat usually once a day as well. I had forgot about having "meat" at lunch until yesterday.....added some lean deli turkey meat in my salad and ate it like there was no tomorrow!

I'm glad you enjoyed my story. It's really all true, I have an obsession with sweets and need to take control. I have altered some of my recipes and have been 50-50 on the success rate. Anything with a moisture content like pumpkin or banana seem to be best.

Trying to do a cookie without the appropriate fat to make it spread, moist or crisp was dreadful. I made some Oatmeal Banana cookies a couple weeks ago and I could have used them to play fetch with the dog! They were cardboard tasting...with a hint of banana and dry. Other than slathering them with sugary icing or chocolate there was no way to save them and that would have defeated my purpose! So, they hit the trash husband still hasn't forgiven me for making a huge hole in the bottom of the can from the cookies hitting! Kidding!

As you can tell from my story I am all too familiar with eating brownies, cookies, chips and dip too! You have done well, don't give in to those temptations. If you must (as I do), try to convert some recipes so that they are not as bad for you and eat them sparingly. Pre-packaged or the goodies from the bakery are the worst.

I just saw your message hmm Raeford, is a very small town. The county is a decent size but actual city limits are not. It is known as a "bedroom community" most people live and own houses here but do not work here. It is by Ft. Bragg and Fayetteville, and Pinehurst, depending on what side of the county you are on. About an hour and something from Raliegh.
It's pretty affordable, but you have to drive everywhere for everything.

Please don't leave us just because you are not ready to commit yourself fully. Having support makes it so much easier when you do decide to embark on that journey again. You may just have to get past the holidays.

Sometimes that in itself can be extra overwhelming. Even if you do not get back to the program soon, please do continue to check in and let us know how you are doing. I know I preach about "the commitment", the "journey" and so on but I am just trying to keep any motivation I have, or "we" have as a group of individuals needing the same thing. I don't want to scare you off just because you are either not ready to commit fully or can't right now.

Stay with us and check in. When you are ready, and when you can, we will be here for you to support your efforts.

Life4ever I am with Jan - don't leave us. Keep doing your best for now and the more practice you get you may surprise yourself. We all have to make tiny steps first before the leaps. Try to hang in there and take the good with the bad, but don't give up. Two or Three good days is better than none and it takes you a few more steps closer to your goals.

I have been at this weight loss thing for 4 years and wish I had found this forum back then. The support on the boards are huge and very inspiring.

I happy to hear that you are not leaving us completely! A big congratulations for passing your first semester of nursing school! That is a wonderful accomplishment and you should feel very proud of yourself. That took a lot of hard work and dedication, good for you!



Thank you for the well wishes. I am not as tired today (not yet) but suffering from a headache. Today is my daughters first day of counseling so I need to gauge how I feel and take my medicine accordingly to make sure I get her there. Luckily, it's not until this afternoon so it gives me time to recoup.

I can't wait for you to report in after your first day of bootcamp! From what I hear you are going to get your butt kicked and be quite sore a day or two after! Good luck on that, I know it will be very beneficial once you get past the initial pain! LOL


FYI: I tried out some new recipes for cookies last night. Still not real fond of the oatmeal ones. They called for dried cranberries but the sugar content alone made me not buy them to use. I decided to substitute canned tart cheeries. They were mcuh lower in everything and enhanced the flavor. However, the cookie part itself (I made some without the cherries) was a bit bland and didn't spread. I suppose that's why you NEED butter in cookies such as that! They were better than the last batch of the "cardboard banana oatmeal " cookies I did last time though. I may just have to continue to tweak and one day may get someone good tasting and not bad for you.

The big test is for my famous holiday Linzer Tarts. I also made the dough for that last night. It has to be refrigerated for a couple hours or overnight before being rolled and cut. The recipe I found on an online "low fat" cooking website was better for you on paper then my altered original but the test will be in the flavor after they are done!

My husband's already complaining that I am going to "ruin" his favorite cookie by making it diet. You know what I say to that? "He is lucky I'm still baking for him at all"! I am my own worse critic especially on things I bake myself so I will be the judge if it's good or not! He can eat it if he choses or go to the Italian Bakery down the street and pay $4.00 a piece for one and clog his arteries!


On that note I am going to go make myself a "diet" breakfast! Tomorrow is my last weigh in for Phase 2 and I have "TOM" visiting, hope he dosen't add to the scale this week! Hope you all have a good day.

Hi I am totally new to fs and I am starting today. I do not have the book and will order on line. Went to the store and stocked up on fresh fruit and veggies, beans, oats and brown rice. One question (i did have looked through the forum before asking) Raisins? are they allowed since they are a dryed fruit with nothing added to them in the ingredents.

I am really looking forward to this diet as I have been a low carber for ever. need a change. Thank you for any help.

Congrats Life4ever - I know it's stressful trying to get through school alone so trying to do that and lose weight is tremendous. I can tell you from experience once school is done you will have more focus and dedication.

My confession,

Ladies today was a hard day - I prepared my foods and carried my lunch bag to work to only not really want my food. Today I had a very tired feeling towards my boring salad and beans so I ran out and got me a Fresh Fit Subway meal. I do not know what is going on with me... I did not even work out this week, not even a little bit. I am going to try to get on the treadmill tonight, Saturday, and Sunday to try to make up. What a bad time to slack when bootcamp starts Monday, I am still very excited about starting and I am hoping I can get back to wanting my menu options. It has been a 5 week straight stretch of the same menu so I guess I am entitled to be tired and bored of it.

WOW Jan, i am getting hungry thinking about all of your tasty recipes. I tried the oatmeal cookies and ummm yeah i need to work a little more on then, they just tasted like oatmeal- the cookie part.haha.. but thats ok.. at least your trying. Have you ever tried a scrunch cake? i saw it on the recipe forum, and looks yummy!! Thank you Equinata for the encouragement. I wanted to tell you i look thru the recipe forum and found some really good healthy alternatives, i make brown rice pasta, with home made tomato sauce, diced tomatos, with some sprinkled low fat cheese for dinner yumm yumm with a side salad. I also switch up the brown rice and beans, and curry it, or make it spanish style, with some grilled veggies, or even "fried" with pam or olive oil, carrots, corn. veggie soup.. it made phase one and two a lot more easier and actually fun. you should def try, and eat half and put the other half in a bowl for lunch the next day. Losing 20lbs seems like a lot of work
but i am willing to do it. i want my goal of 130 really bad!! and i actually enjoy working out, i did cheerleading in HS, track, field hockey, dance, i love being active, so that makes it easier for me, its just having a daughter and school and work full time, makes it difficult for me. Surfman, i believe the raisins are a no-no.

I am on the original FS and I got the book a few weeks ago so any questions or need any suggestions and let me know! Sorry to say that raisens are NOT on the plan. They are still loaded with sugar regardless that there may not be "added" sugar to them. That goes the same with any dried fruit. This is an issue I just had with trying to make some "diet" cookies. They called for dried cranberries and I just could not bring myself to buy and use them with 26-30 grams of sugar per serving....carbs are usually high also. You are a brave girl to be starting this just prior to the holidays! We are here to support you no matter what! Good Luck and thanks for joining us!


You have been doing so well. Being "off" temporarily with eating and working out happens sometimes. As long as you continue and get back on track then you should be fine. Sometimes it's stress, PMS, just plain being tired or busy that makes you say.............well I can't say what I am thinking but it makes you want to throw your hands up. Staying on a certain Phase or Cycle for a long period of time can get boring for sure.

I have my weigh in tomorrow which is for the last week of my Phase 2. I need to read through my book to see if there are things on Phase 3 that will make a difference in my daily routine and not have me go stagnet in weight loss. I may decide to repeat Phase 2 again. It gave me enough of a variety with the addition of lean meats, seafood, & cereal but I still primarily eat like Phase 1 taught me to. Anyway, I am confident you will get right back on track and that boot I said, it's gonna kick your butt, don't you worry!



You are very fortunate that not only do you have a relatively small amount of weight to lose but that your body is also conditioned to be active. That gives you definate benefits! You sound like you have a good grip on the food for the plan and "mixing things up" to keep it interesting. I have done similar things mixing it up and with the brown rice spaghetti. I could never find if it was totally "approved" and as a matter of fact one article on here said it wasn't. It's made from brown rice though NOT like alot of the other pastas in the organic area that say they are made with spinach, tomato and so on but the top ingredient is still the semolina wheat. I think when they gave that advice and "no" to the brown rice pasta that were not clear that it is indeed made with brown rice! So I say (and do) enjoy!

Other than saying they were smaller my husband gave them the thumbs up! I thought they were decent, even my daughter and her girlfriend liked them!
They are fairly low in calories, fat, and sugar with no cholesterol.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. One down 4 more to go. Well I have a month off from school, and not alot of work schedule. So I will probably restart on Monday. That way I won't spend my Christmas break eating everything. Not to mention my school scrubs are getting tighter allready.

Ok heres alittle about myself I am 51 and going through the dreaded change of life, hot flashes and loss of tom(only good thing lol) 5 years ago I weighed close to 200 lbs, and the loss of my husband (30 years) and low carb I went down to 132. I kept it off for 3 1/2 years. Then started working out side of my home for a major store wallymart midnights. Talk about stress. I was doing heavy lifting and runing aroung the store stocking. That was fine kept me in shape. but I started eating huge amounts of junk food to relive the stress of the job. will the lbs started creeping back. quite the job in may, and returned to my starving artist home job. still the lbs were creeping up. So trying to get back in to lc since may the stoping and starting the diet I managed to add 10 lbs more on. So stepping on the scale the other day it read 158. bummer

I started reading through this site and found you guys. and started looking up the fs diet.

I am a grazer and I eat all the time, and this seems to suit me better then lc as I can munch on carrots, fruit(whats that) lol have not had much of that in awhile. Oat meal wow.

So my plan is not to get hung up on the calorie thing, and just eat whats on the 9 day detox when I get hungry or the need to graze and see how it goes.

I am really burnt out on count this or worry about that. Naturally I would like to get this extra weight off and I think it will if I dont worry over it. Just let me munch.

yesterdays food
1 cup oatmeal w/raisins and milk
1 banana
munched on carrots
large salad with lf dressing
black mashed beans on a flaxbread(homemade)
sweet potatoe fries in the oven. (first time I had these they were great)

I saw that flax was accptabe on the faq board for phase 1 and changed my lc version to fs

Flaxmeal bread recipe
2 tbs flaxmeal
2 egg whites
1 tbs water mix together and let set a few minites

Spread it out on a non stick hot fry pan like a 6 inch tortile flip and cook to desired browness.

now if you add 1/4 tsp of baking soda to this you can nuke it in a coffee mug for the muffin version add in some apple chuncks and alittle cinamin and sweetener. not sure on the nuke time 1 min or 2. just watch it.

oh a few more things, sorry so long. I am looking at this as a way of life and lot so much a detox diet. So I am keeping in my coffee that I drink black and my diet soda. Yes I need to drink more water.

Also will not get back into working out until some of the lbs come off. I run and have a gym quality treadmill, love it. But working out causes me starving issues and weight gain (water and musal weight). one thing at a time. get my eating back in order. then the toning.

So I hope you all dont mind me posting here, since I am not following it 100% only 97% since I have my 3 sins coffee, dietsoda and exersise.

Hello Ladies,

Today was weigh in for week 3 of Phase 2. I feel fortunate because even with the "diet" cookies and I had some Orville popcorn last night I still managed to take off 1.4 lbs. This gives me a total of 5.2 for Phase 2 and 12.6 since I started on 11/02/09. I am happy with the way things are and after reading through the Phase 3 of the book I am sticking with the additions already given to me on Phase 2. At this time I don't really feel I "need" the new addition of bread and carbs. I have been allowing myself the diet homemade goodies anyway that ad to my carbs so I can do without the bread to add more of that. Maybe after the holidays and extra goodies I will go to Phase 3.


I just have to say that you sound like you will do very well on this. I too could not give up my coffee and don't exercise the way I should. My third downfall however is not soda but the sweets. I too got creative making a flatbread and pizza crust just to have variety. Your flaxseed flatbread sounds good and I'll have to try it. I am almost 49 but unfortunately I am still going through TOM even though I have had perimenopause syptoms for a few years. I wish "TOM" would go away and take my migraines with him!


Glad that you are going to give this another try. It will be tough during the holidays but at least you will have a small reprieve to not also have the studying or school to distract you.

Ok, I have a very patient husband here waiting for me to get ready so we can brave the stores and get some Christmas shopping in. I hope his patients hold out once we get there! Have a good day ladies.

Jan wow 12 lbs. way to go. I am a big time sugar junkie also. Man gotta love cookie dough. I like to bake alot also but since i was low carb here and there, didnt bake so much.

have you added in any fat free stuff to your daily meals aka butter, sour cream, cheese. or are you staying mainly vegin with added meat.

yes it is nice not doing tom anymore but the hot flashes were a killer. they have slowed down some thank goodness.

Happy Sunday Ladies,

Fairly successful shopping trip yesterday. Got for a few of the "kids" and then for their significant others. Still have a few to go but we'll figure it out somehow.

:present: comes a Christmas tree story! :tree:

Got the Christmas tree at a pretty good deal too. We used to go to the same family owned place every year. The "ambiance" was great but their prices were so much higher, so a couple years ago we stopped going there. Last year we got a tree from Walmart. We were actually pretty happy with the tree from Walmart...and the price was right. Their trees this year are $20, $30, or $40.

However, "this year" though seemed like we needed the extra "spirit". Me being out of work and the threat of losing our home is just depressing. We also have somewhat taken in a friend of my daughters on the weekends. She has been going through a rough time too. Her Daddy is "away" for a few months and gets out on the 30th of this month. Since he was her only parent, she has been living with her Aunt and her cousins who treat her horribly (the cousins). So we decided to unofficially be her surrogate parents on the weekends.

Anywho, we decided to give that family owned place a try again for the uplifting experience knowing full well that it would be hard to get a tree for those Walmart prices. They are all out decorated, have a little cottage that sells hot chocolate & little gifts, they make wreaths and arrangements, have one of those big wooden boards with pictures painted of Mr. & Mrs. Claus and 2 elfs that you can stick your face through and take a picture, a fire pit with seats all around, fake snow machine, and best of all, a hay ride. We have seen their golden retriever dogs grow up over the years and they join in with every hay ride!

The trees were very limited as this place sells out quickly. Because they like to keep their trees super fresh, they get shipments in every few days but once it gets around the 10th of the month they are done getting shipments, this was their last. They had some decent trees left but the cheapest one of a good size was $48.00 and up. Well we went to "Grandpa" Lowry and said "we have $40.00 flat to spend. Told him that we were going to do Walmart for $30 but felt that we needed to come back and see them this year again.

First he gave us the story about the difference between them and Walmart.....regarding everything and the trees! He said that he knows we had been coming there for years, times a tough all around, and that we could have "Matt" (they name all their trees) who was a $48.00 tree with no tax....$40.00 out the door, enjoy your hayride! So we got a decent tree for the amount we said we could spend, enjoyed the ambiance, the spirit, the hay ride and overall came away feeling good. So that's my Christmas tree story!

Today is decorating day which means moving the furniture around and washing floors too! I am also cringing at the thought of how our little cat is going to react to the tree. He was just a baby when we got him last year and is a real crazy man now. I have a feeling he will be climbing it and I will have to constantly scold him. Not to mention I hope he dosen't thin it's acceptable to pee near it since it smells like outdoors....I'll really have to spank his furry behind for that one!

Oh, and confession time. I had a bad eating day yesterday. Me & hubby were famished while shopping and not heading home yet. So, we went to McDonald's. It was already late afternoon and I needed to make dinner after we got back so I got a grilled chicken snack wrap. Then because I was not prepared for a dinner for myself I ate what was made for dinner...pork steak. Since I am on Phase 2 I can have meats but they are suppose to be lean.....and this was not. In a 3 oz peice I consumed about 20 grams of fat! Overall I was at the high end of my nutrition chart with fat, cholesterol, and carbs all day. So, today is a new day and I need to get back with the program!


Thank you regarding the weight loss. That 12.6 lbs was lost in a 5 1/2 week time. Even though I would love to have lost more, I am happy that it is averaging about 2 lbs a week which a safe weight they say to lose. Some weeks it was more and some less but I feel fortunate to have lost every week I have been on this plan. I know you are new to this thread but in a nutshell, I had thyroid cancer, no longer have one, and the thyroid is what controls the metabolism. So now medication does and not always so good.

Anyway, I do have limited fats during the day. Mostly in dressing for my salads (I'm a ranch girl-Southbeach kind), a tsp of reduced margerine in veggies or cooking sometimes. Mostly for cooking it's always the olive oil spray. I also will indulge in a snack of air popped white popcorn with butter favored spray and a little sea salt. I do use limited quantities of either fat free or 2% milk fat shredded cheese on some things now. When I started on Phase 1 I got the expensive vegan cheeses. I don't usually do sour cream and had been using low fat plain yogurt instead.

With the baking I have been doing I feel I am slipping more. I know it's more the holidays and so I am hoping to hang on to my "losing" streak through this time. Let me know if you have any more questions regarding the plan.

I also need to report in something about my Linzer Tart recipe. I thought it was good but it still needs a tweak! I know that in their normal made form they do soften up after the first day when kept in an airtight container. However, I think it was either the lower percentage of the butter I used that may have caused them to really sog. Maybe it's because the cookies were smaller and denser that they got that way. Maybe that I used the sugar free jams and the water content is higher than the sugary kinds? It could be any or all of these things and although they are still tasty I am not at all happy with the sogginess. I'll report in once I have tweaked....and change my recipe to reflect in case any of you were going to try it.

Do any of you have suggestions or thoughts on what could be the single or multiple cause of the cookie sog?

Good morning or afternoon (feels like morning still)

How nice a live tree. I sorta dont feel the xmas spirit to much since I lost my Dh. 5yrs a go. I did get married again last year, but still can not get into any holidays. Going to my daughters this year as she took on the roll of doing the family dinners, so will be happy with that. And this will be the first x-mas that me and my 6 childern will be together again. plus my 5 grand kids.

This morning I pan fried cubed apple,sweet potatoe and some raisins (no fat) till tender and brown, added cinnamin and alittle splenda filled me up quick saved the rest to add to my oat meal later (i know no raisins but I will risk it lol)

Jan my mom has no thyroid either and she is batteling the weight gain. She hardly eats but still putting on the pounds.

I had to laugh about the cat made my day. Enjoy decorating I am off to sew dolls.

After the 9 days are up thinking about adding back in ff cheese , and ff sour cream and white potatoes ditching the rice. or only a cup if I have the potatoe.

Good Morning Ladies,

Tired this morning but not as tired as my 11 year old. She was still in high gear at 11:00 last night thanks to Daddy letting her have a toaster strudle filled with sugar at 10:00 pm. So I decided to let her come out with me & look at the meteor shower. Next thing I knew it was midnight. I thought "15 minutes and she will get sleepy" but it was an hour later before I knew it. Bad Mommy!

She got to see about 15 shooting stars and was very excited but was paying for it this morning.....and so was I. Fought me every step of the way to get up to go to school but I got her there, though late. I feel sorry for the teacher now, he's in for a cranky kid today!

Today I need to get back to my eating plan. Stop with the extra junk that I know I should not be eating.....well at least not more than one low cal, low fat, treat a day.


That pan fried apple & sweet potatoe sounds good. I just cut an apple and sprinkle with cinnamon & sweetener or micro for a baked apple effect but yours sounds so much better. I also put the cinnamon & sugar combination on air popped popcorn too for another sweet crunchy snack.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your husband 5 years ago. Once you have a loss of a family member around Christmas time it's really hard to find the joy again. I lost my father unexpectedly when I was 11, it took many years to find the joy again and then it was in the hearts of my own children. I'm sure that being around your children & grandchildren help ease that pain?

Was your husband also your children's father? Do you honor him at Christmas and speak about the good times when together? The fun times, the crazy times, even though it can tug at your heart strings it also can be a great way to bring him there with you on that day and let the kids know that you too have not forgotten him. This is a wonderful thing having ALL of your children and grandchildren together this year. I am blessed to also have my oldest flying in from Texas to be with the rest of us.

I am sure your new husband understands that this was very traumatic for you and there is no reason to forget or not speak about our lost loved ones during the holidays.

FYI-You inspired my breakfast, I just had oatmeal with cut up apples in it!

It's nice to be able to share things and have thing shared with the ladies here. I just want you all to know that I appreciate all of you.

Hang in there Surfnmom, the first phase is the toughest but can also give you a terrific step up on the way we should be eating for a lifetime. Just to make myself a creature of that habit I repeated phase 1 again before going to 2.

There are not too many diets out there that tell you that white potatoes, white bread, white sugar, white flour, etc., etc. is GOOD for you. If you have some every once in awhile then it's not too bad. Just don't have a potatoe, baked, mashed or any other way more than twice a week. The sweet potatoes are better for us but can get tiring.

I see nothing wrong with adding in FF cheeses as long as you are not going over the recommended daily amount. Sour cream is another thing but I really don't see where that can do much damage either. We can have some "fats", can have some dairy, so I would think that could be added in although it does not specifically say that.

You have to do what's best for you. It's better to add things in that you really enjoy as long as you don't fall off the wagon completely & overindulge!

Good Morning Ladies,

I was looking in over the weekend but was too sore to sit up at a computer too long to type or type on my itty bitty blackberry. I told you guys I was going to try to do the 2hour treadmill thing the entire weekend and I did Friday and Saturday which is why I was so sore. I couldn't understand why my arm muscles ached when I was using my legs, but anyway. I did all of that to just take a bite of my daughters brownie yesterday... Who the heck told those two people in my house to make brownies? I felt so guilty about a bite.

Jan congrats on your weekly loss and getting the tree you wanted for what you wanted to pay for it. I'm sure those tarts where still good to your hubby and daughter the next day.
Surfnmom I hate the withdrawls of change. Since I am doing the EFS and not the FS I was able to have snacks and when I would get that salty craving I went for a bag of the 100 cal popped popcorn that I buy from SAMS and when I want something sweet I go for a graham cracker. I try to limit these snacks for only when I really need it.

Boot camp started today and I had to do a pre test and man - I didn't know what to think - would it be easy or will he just kill us. I am happy to say today was an in between day, however, I was pushed more than I would have pushed myself. There was not modified forms of push ups, sit ups, planks, dips... none what so ever. He timed us to see how many we could do in a certain time frame. We did a lot of running as well so I know next time to bring my asthma pump. LOL The class is co-ed and the only two new comers where myself and another young lady. I was however, the largest in the class but was proud that I kept up and my numbers where not so drastically behind all the fit ladies. LMAO.

Jan my late hubby was the father of all the kids. I meet him when I was 16 he was 19 and passed away at 49 (to young) he was my everything.

Will yesterday went good. pop some popcorn, to help with the munchies, need to get an air popper, had to use alitte oil but made a huge pot so I dont think it will be to big of an impact on the diet.

Today think I will pan fry some cubed apples and make some flax muffins of quick snacks. or meal. depending on my hungry level. today is day 5 (hump day Ill call it) getting kinda worried that I will be the one to gain weight on a veggie fruit diet lol.

I have been trying to lose weight for some time and have been back and forth... Its a very long story, but recently in the pas two years I have two misscarriages so those where some big set backs in weight loss. Anyhow me and hubby decided not to try for now and I have regained control of my weight issue again.

I wish all of you baking ladies would let me send you a small fee to package me some of those healthy baked snacks you are coming up with. I am not a baker and since I am not foods best friend right now I prefer not to cook to much of anything at all.

Boot camp today was very intense. I can not hold my arms above my head and my legs feel like noodles, and geeze my whole stomach area is sore and it hurts to the muscle when I laugh or cough. I sure hope the hubby don't expect much of a wifely duty this week, because that is just too much!!!! LOL

:ginger: It sure is a "Silent Night" around here! I know it's the holidays catching up with all of us. The days are just running into eachother filled with shopping, cleaning, and tomorrow baking again for me.

I hope you are all doing well with your nutritional needs and not letting the holiday festivities ruin all that you have accomplished. I myself have had my share of off limit foods and too many of my own baked goods.

I decided to repeat Phase 2 again and this was my first week of weigh in...or actually I called it "week 4". I was down 1 lb. I'm still happy to be going in the right direction but I am afraid by the end of this holiday week I will not fare so well.

:newyear: The New Year is coming also though and this is a time for renewal. A time to re-access our old habits and change them. A time to reflect on all that we have done good or bad for ourselves this past year and make the changes needed.

"Yesterday was the PAST, Tomorrow is the FUTURE, but everyday is a gift and this is why we call it the PRESENT". We should accept this "Present" that GOD has been graciously given to us and make him and ourselves proud. :present:

I am here Equinata, I am here! Seems like it almost ended with us before and now we are keeping it going again. I'm sure all of our 3FC friends will be back after the holidays and for sure after the New Year with some new resolutions!

I'm glad you have not gained and that boot camp is going well. I too am going back to Phase 1 (Detox) after the holidays. I am still baking cookies and although I have altered the recipes I know they are still not what I should be eating.

I have my oldest coming here tonight. She flew in from Texas yesterday and spent the night with my other daughter. I get her tonight until Christmas evening. My daughter she's with now will come Christmas Eve with her boyfriend and then they will take her back to Ft. Lauderdale with them for the rest of her trip. It's boring here with old Mom and the "girls" have a better time hanging out together, I understand. My youngest is so excited for her biggest sis to get here and so am I!

That is something I miss with my mom since she passed when I was 20, now I have a mother-in-law who I want to just say not today mom, but I love her for it. LOL Wonderful we don't live down the street from each other. LOL

Life4evr I know the feeling of not liking the crowds - that is why I start my shopping in October. LOL and if I don't have it by the week before Christmas then they just won't get that gift.

I am challenging myself for the New Year to lose another 30lbs by April.

A Belated Merry Christmas to you all! Been having computer issues on top of the normal holiday stuff and feel bad I didn't get to wish you all a "merry" before hand.


Hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. Today my older daughters leave to go back to Ft. Lauderdale where my one daughter lives. My oldest flies back home to Texas on Tuesday. I was happy to have all of them here together for the holiday.

We are going out for a very late breakfast together and then they are going from there. I weighed in this morning but knew that the ham my Mom made and I ate yesterday wreaked havoc on my body before I even stepped on the scale. My hands felt like little sausages this morning and my face looks swollen. The scale was not kind at all as right now it's showing a 5 lb. holiday gain. I am going to drink alot of water today, weigh in again tomorrow morning and try to see if it was from all the sodium intake or truly from ALL of the bad eating.


Congratulations on making it to "onederland"! That is great and to do that during the holiday is even more commendable! Continued success to reach your goal during the New Year.

Jan don't worry about the gain... It was expected. I have not been able to put the food down so that is the only reason I did not kill myself trying to eat it. My body just kept rejecting the spoon. I was feeling like I wanted to vomit so I had to stop because I can not stand vomitting. LOL I learned that I have to listen to my body otherwise the outcome is never pleasant. LOL

Hi Ladies,

Well I have confessed my eating sins during this holiday and am waiting to see how the rest of your did. So ladies, how have you done?


I know that you have reported in and I think that you did wonderfully! I too felt the effects of putting the wrong things in my mouth.... but did it anyway. I started out feeling nauseous, then felt bloated and got heartburn from the extra fats, sugars, & calories. Lost the energy that I had newly gained from eating well, and it has also lead to constipation...sorry TMI on that one! Basically my one week of bad eating has totally wrecked my system and I feel like crap! I was...and that's the opportune word...WAS doing well and staying faithful but boy did I fall off the wagon.

Although my oldest daughter (the vegetarian) kept saying "it's ok Mom, you'll get back to it, and it's the holidays", I felt that I should have tried harder to show her what I had been doing and can do. Instead, in front of her I reverted back to my old habits. It's funny but I wanted HER to be proud of ME for a change instead of the other way around. I know I will get back to the plan and report in to her once she is back in Texas but wish I would have had the will power to show her my efforts while she was here.

Well I did get a Wii Fit for Christmas so I am hoping that will help with my future efforts. Also got a new Biggest Loser food scale and a Biggest Loser "kit" that has meal plans, journals, and other booklets along with recorded motivation & tips from past contestants. As you can tell I need to actually crack into the box to see what's all in it! I wanted a treadmill very badly and asked for only that from everyone as a gift but it wasn't possible. I still feel as the Mom though that I made out pretty darn good!

My youngest got a bunch of great "Taylor" things from everyone. Her favorite people right now are Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner. She got T-Shirts, an outfit, a bag, a puzzle and a blanket with Taylor Lautner. My daughter's boyfriend is a big ebay buying guy and got her an autographed picture of Taylor Swift, a pink acoustic guitar and picks to go with it with Taylor Swifts picture on it. As usual, she was spoiled rotten by her older siblings!

How did your little one make out and what was her "theme" this year, anything in particular? What did you get?

My dughter didn't have a theme this year. She hs been begging all year round and we bought everything we said no to. Lol Needles to say she made out like a bandit with a new bike, scooter, plenty of clothes, money,dolls,shoes,sneakers,boots,wii games,science projects, spa maker, ice cream maker, etc... I got plenty of work out clothes - can you guys believe that. Lol. I also got jewlery.

How did all you other ladies do?

Holy Cow Equinata, what time does your boot camp start? So you were up and waiting for the instructor at 5:30 am? That just told me right there that there is no way I would take a class like that...not at that time anyway. I am sooooo not a morning person! Good for you though, hope it went well and they didn't kick your butt too bad!

Sounds like your little one made out pretty well too, I guess that's the advantage of being a kid. Sounds like she got some fun things to do and make. Surprisingly enough one of the least expensive gifts that my daughter got has kept her occupied.....a big pad of paper, some paints, and little ceramic animals to paint. She has made some awesome pictures so far. Sometimes the old basics (not electronic) gifts work out well!

I am meeting my older daughters in Palm Beach (and bringing my youngest with me) at 1:00 today to have lunch together. This will be the last time this trip that I will get to see my oldest daughter before she leaves tomorrow. She would like to move back to Florida but closer to her sister down south of here but her husband does not want to. He wants to go back to Ohio where his family is from and my daugter won't go for that, seems they are at an impasse. They have lived in Texas for about 4 years now, both have very good jobs, but neither have family there. They moved with friends and thought that it would be a good move (and it was for awhile) but now they are realizing they would like to be near family. Of course I am hoping they would move back here to Florida in which case I would stay here myself a bit longer. I was contemplating a move to North Carolina. I guess it will be a "wait & see" scenerio.

Jan you are absolutely right about the non electronic gifts... They are more appreciated. Boot Camp was tough this morning as we had to workout in the frigid cold on a hill at that. LOL I made it through at time sure flies because this is the last week unless I want to spend more money to sign up again and it's just not in the budget.

My New Years resolution? To get back to this program and reach my goal by summer!


I am hoping that after the New Year comes tonight there will also be some similar new resolutions. I miss the rest of this group, where are you? I know the holidays have been busy. I also know that I have failed miserably on keeping myself on track.


I promise you all, (if you are looking in here) neither myself or Equinata are here to judge what did or did not happen during the holidays with your eating or exercise. It's like Vegas....what happens there, stays there!


We just want you to come back and join us. We will help you get back to your plan. I too need some help and extra support after pigging on cookies and "bad" food all holiday! Won't you please re-join us?

Ok, can I just say that I am heading into this Phase tomorrow after totally pigging out today. I have eaten so much junk with and without the family I am literally sick to my stomach.


Bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, leftover pizza for lunch, chicken tenders and fries for dinner...oh I did have green beans! I followed that up with almost constant snacking. Chocolate cake with chocolate coconut icing, deluxe nuts, chocolate kisses, now I feel like I want to throw up I am so full! Not to mention I'm disgusted with myself.

Last night also I indulged with the family in New Year snacks. Nuts, crackers and a nut coated cheese ball, Fritos and onion dip and cake last night too.


When I weighed in after Christmas last week and after having salty ham I had gained 5 lbs of holiday weight. By a day or so later once I was able to get rid of some of that sodium water weight it was actually only a 2 lb gain. However now that I have pigged out totally the last couple of days again and with salty snacks I am sure my weigh in for tomorrow morning and the beginning of Phase 1 again will NOT be good.


I have only myself to blame but wanted to confess my eating sins here where I know I can. I will see you again in the morning for the ugly truth on the scale!

I wanted to let you know that you have been a tremendous support for me on this website and a nice friend when we were emailing. So I wanted to let you know that I have just re-joined my old team on Sparkpeople. Our new challenge will begin on the 12th. They go in 12 week increments.

I was the only "original" member on the Pink team existing (coming over from Biggest Loser Wesite a couple years ago) but was just not in the state of mind to continue. This lead me to withdraw for a few rounds. I feel with a new change of mindset and this new eating plan, I may be able to feel I can now be an active, productive, part of the team again.

I got in just in time to get in when the team was still in a private invitation mode. Today it has gone "public" and chances are all of the spots will be filled quickly. The current and past members of course get first priority in choice of team and I would be nothing more, or less than a PINK! Then anyone else that has asked to be on the team because of family/friends...or even a love of the color (LOL), will get chosen.

There are limited spots but would you be interested in joining with me there if there was an opening or do you have enough on your plate of challenges?

If you don't want to or can't, I will still be checking in here or emailing you. I am hoping that some of the other ladies will return on here shortly, or maybe even some new ones looking to start a New Years Resolution. This is not structured, just support orientated and I can always give and get more of that! The team structure pushes me to do things I would prefer not to do, but know I have to, like more exercise!

I just wanted you to be the first to know. I WILL continue to keep in touch with you regardless if we get more ladies on here or not.

Wish I could say I'm having a "good" morning but unfortunately this great crisp air we have here in Florida this week has also set off my migraines! Been hanging around for three days now, UGH!


Don't you think for a minute that I am leaving you on here ok? I just may not be posting as much. My challenge on the other website dosen't start until the 13th, so until then it's posting as usual on here! Once I start there I will be required to post at least 3 times a week and be an active part of a the team meaning challenges and such but I will still have time for my lovely "chicks"!



It's wonderful to see you back now that the holidays are over. I don't know about you but I sure fell off the wagon! I wish you the best of luck as you embark on Phase 1. I too started back on it yesterday due to "holiday gain"!

It seems that you have experience with FS already so that's a plus. You know the challenges of sticking to Phase 1, and the need to be creative with what they allow you to work with. This has been my biggest help so far is being creative with the foods they allow. I am a "sweetaholic" and even though in Phase 1 we are not allowed "desserts or sweets" I have managed to still make some decent desserts out of what we have. Grinding oats makes some nice oat flour, I can do wonders with that!

I wish you the best of luck as you embark on this weight loss journey again with the FS Diet. Please come here on a regular basis, we are here to support, answer questions we can and give you tips if needed.

Hi Again Ladies,

Getting ready to take my Imitrex and lay down. I had to pick up my daughter from school early because it appears she has a stomach ache??? She tried this yesterday too but I didn't get her and then when she came home she ate like usual. This morning she started playing me before she even went to school. The regular nurse who knows her was out and another lady was helping in the school clinic. By the time I spoke with her twice and my daughter 3 times I just decided I would pick her up and give that lady a break! My husband on the other hand is not as thrilled with her antics and says if she really isen't sick he will make sure she gets a spankin when he gets home. Highly unlikely that will happen either!



I'm fortunate that I like oatmeal. Have you tried any eggwhite & veggie scrambles? Smoothies with yogurt? Pancakes?

Here is a recipe I just put in today for Oat FS pancakes on my Sparkpeople Recipe page. They were pretty good and better than some of the others I've tried listed on here. You can decide to do whatever you want for toppings. I made a fruit & sugar free syrup puree but that syrup has a lot of artificial stuff in it and may not fall under our strict guildlines....I had it anyway!


Let me know what you think if you make them and what you would do (or did) to improve them ok?

Alright, got to go lie down....ouchhhhhhhhhhh!

The ladies you see on here now are not the ones responsible for starting this thread but Equinata and I have kept it going. Through the times when others have come and gone we have continued checking in and hoping for "new life" to come in. This has happened twice since this thread was started. We are happy to have you hear and will support you the best we can!

When you were on 3FC before were you on the FS Diet or another? Glad you are having a better day with your FS Diet then the last few. Some days are better than others, the first few are sometimes the toughest.

I am on my third round of Phase 1. When I started this program in November I did Phase 1 back to back....I don't recommend that! It's challenging enough trying to find new ways to make things to start with, try doing it all over again when you are already bored with the food choices! LOL I am repeating it now only because I made it to Phase 3 then took a couple weeks off to go through the holidays. I did pay for that in the way of a 2 1/2 lb gain but this is why I am repeating the cycle again.

I will say to you what I have said to others, (and you may know this already), planning is important and creativity is the key! If you try to plan some things out in advance by even making batches of things and refrigerating/freezing them it makes it so much easier to make the right choices. Grabbing anything when you are tired, busy, or just plain "don't feel like preparing something" is too easy, but detrimental to what we are trying to do. If you can mix it up enough, be creative with the foods allowed, then you will breeze through Phase 1 and know you can continue onto Phase 2 with success as well when more food is added.

Most of the ladies are on the original Fat Smash and are repeating Phase 1 again after the holidays. Equinata, my great support on here, is on the Extreme Fat Smash Plan. She has been a trooper moving through the cycles of her plan, even through the holidays! Equinata, where are you these days on your plan?

I am a new comer. Just started the FS diet on 1/03. I own a restaurant, around good food all day long. and am responsible for preparing the desserts, i.e. peach cobblers, bread pudding, sweet potato pie, banana pudding. So this is really a challenge. So far I am doing ok. Enjoying the healthy eating. I am trying to be very creative with my veggie dishes using tofu, lentil, chick peas, etc. Have not started excersing but plan to do so before the 9 days are over. Glad I was referred to this site. Wish me luck.

Good to have you here with us. We are not a big group but we are a supportive least try! Is this your very first time on FS? How about on the 3FC site?

Being a restaurant owner can definitely add to the challenge of losing weight. On the other hand, since you are the owner you can also prepare yourself healthy meals at work. The best thing you can do for yourself is plan ahead. You already have been creative with the meals and that is the second most important thing behind planning.

If I was in your position I would have a hard time mostly because I am a sweetaholic! You have a talent though and can use that talent to prepare yourself some low calorie, low fat desserts with the ingredients allowed. Who knows, you may create something for yourself and think it turned out so well you will put it on the menu!

I made them again yesterday and served them with a warmed blueberry/sugar free syrup combo, pretty darn good!


You are doing great not giving into those temptations still in the house. I have a husband who is such a junk food junkie that it makes it hard to not take a handful of something he has. I have done fairly well myself but still have a taste from time to time. You will be able to have your Ahi Tuna before too long. You are just days away from Phase 2 and being able to incorporate seafood and lean meats (if you eat them) into your plan. Good luck, you are doing great!

Jan, no i haven't tried it yet. I have been sleeping late, so I really haven't been in the mood for "breakfast" food, lately. I will probably try it tomorrow since classes start back.

I am doing okay with my eating. I had a tossed salad with some turkey the other day, because My grandma's appointment took longer than I thought. Which I am okay with considering, I was thinking about double cheeseburgers, instead I just got the salad with some meat. Trying to exercise but my iron levels are low, so I am really sluggish and tired.

I'm going to sound like a parrot repeating myself but....the key to especially Phase 1 is to plan ahead with your menu & making meals and be creative with the ingredients allowed. Thinking about it and ways to keep things a little more interesting is the best way to stay faithful on it.

As for the oatmeal question, I personally prefer the regular oatmeal for a few reasons.
One is that the texture is more "hearty", the instant is more mushy. Some people like this and some don't.
Two, you can control the amounts of sugar and sodium in the regular since you are starting with just oats. The instant tends to contain more of these as is.
Three, you can also grind the regular dry oats to make natural oat flour to use for other recipes, can't do that with instant.
Lastly, the cost, regular store brand oats are usually less expensive for the amount you get compared to pre-packaged.

These are my personal reasons for cooking & eating regular 5 minute oats. If you are in a time crunch, don't want to actually cook & dirty a pot, prefer the mushier texture and/or can get the instant on sale then I say "go for it". It really is all personal preference, I prefer the regular oats, to me more versatile. Do you know of anyone else that can give you a whole paragraph on oats? Geez Louise! LOL
