I'm new here and thought I'd say 'hi'. A little about me...My name's Kat - I'm a 17 y/o high school senior (not quite a 20-something, but kinda close ) - I am going to attend Gonzaga University in the fall to study Special Education. I'm an avid horse rider - have been riding for about 11 years now.
I've struggled with depression and anxiety in the past few years - which is what led to my big weight gain (at my heaviest 195 pounds...). I now weigh around 185 (completely depends on the day) but my goal is 165.
I'm hoping to meet some friends here to help me with this (seemingly ongoing) journey.
Welcome to the 20 somethings! You'll love it around here.
I was an active horseback rider so many many years. Unfortunately, riding wasn't in the budget for the last little while, but I'm trying to get back into it. Anyone who says it not a workout is lying or just doesn't know what they're talking about! What kind of riding do you do?
Hi Kat. Welcome. I wish I would of found a great board like this when I was 17. ( but when I was 17 the internet was almost a rumer ) You'll find that this is a wonderful board filled wonderful ppl and with more infomation than you can think of. It's great.
rockstar87 - I'm actually doing WW right now, not working as well as I'd like it to, but I'm hoping that it will start working eventually
shantroy - I ride english - I did showing for a while when I lived overseas and we had a team, but now I'm pretty content just to ride around whenever I get the chance.
I'm now content to just ride around whenever I can "borrow" a friend's horse. I used to be an eventer, wayyyyyy back in the day. I loved the rush of cross country.
Ya - I used to do cross country - I leased a horse who I trusted with my life, would do anything with him (much to my mother's dismay), but now I'm at a stable without a cross country course (it's on the "to do list") and without a horse who I really trust, so I haven't been doing much jumping, cross country or otherwise. But a horse who I really like might be coming back to the stable, and his owner doesn't really ride that often, so I would be able to ride him a lot - which would /really/ help with the weight loss too.
best of luck in your weightloss and in starting college! Do you think you'll still be able to ride in college? My school actually had an equestrian team... I would have loved to get into that but my only riding experience was at camps when I was in middle school or so.
I used to ride quite a bit myself (showing 3 horses for several years) but now I'm oh-so-close to being an equine vet that I have zero time (not to mention money!) for that aspect of horses. :-) I grew up riding Arabians and Half-Arabians, mostly equitation, western pleasure, medal classes...then completely transitioned to dressage by the time I was a senior in high school. Ah, I miss it!
