Exercise! - February 2008 Walk/Run Challenge

View Full Version : February 2008 Walk/Run Challenge

02-01-2008, 07:59 AM
Here it is February already and time to jump in and challange yourself and be supported by others. Walking or running it all counts so come on and join in the fun of becoming fit!

02-01-2008, 08:55 AM
If it's alright with everyone here I'd also like to post strength training days as well. I keep wanting to add it to my week, but with no accountability I slip into only doing my miles.

walk/jog 72 miles
9 strength training days of 20 minutes or more

I've gotten a couple dvds from the library that use an exercise ball for pilates and yoga. We've had a ball for years, but really only use it to stretch our backs and sit on at the computer. I haven't worked abdominals or arms in litterally years. It should be quite humorous watching me try to do a crunch while holding the ball above my head lol That may take a FEW tries.
May your skies be sunny and your paths slush free!

02-01-2008, 09:13 AM
6.15/135 I did a warm up, a 4 mile tempo run then a cool down.

I'm shooting for 60 miles this month. It might be kinda pushing it but that's okay. It pretty much means I need to get my rear out of bed early enough to get it in before my husband leaves for work... it'll be good for me. And it will get me ready for it when I finally find a job... so I won't mess all the good I've done so far!

I've decided to run a 5k at an arts festival on May 17th! :carrot:

02-01-2008, 02:01 PM
I am going to put 135 as my goal. My training plan calls for 145 so just a little cushion for those kids-up-all-night-throwing-up days.

02-01-2008, 02:08 PM
I am setting my goal for 75 this month....

02-01-2008, 02:47 PM
I'm setting my goal for 45 miles this month.

02-01-2008, 09:34 PM
Hi Everyone, I'm new to this thread and I've never publicly committed to a regular exercise program before. So bear with me, please - I don't think I can commit to an entire month. I think I'll try doing this weekly, for now - OK?

I'm a walker and I use a pedometer that counts steps. This week I'll shoot for 7k steps/day, at least 5 days/wk. So between tomorrow, Sat 2/2 and next Sat 2/9 I will walk at least 35K steps.

02-01-2008, 10:06 PM
LOVNMOM you may add anything you want!

Welcome BIRGIT

ENNAy...way to "use" my adopted GRANDkids to "lower" your goals...that is just not right....

I took tonight off....date night...

Goal for Feb ~ 75 miles

02-01-2008, 11:25 PM
Welcome birgit to this corner of 3fc.
We are here to have fun. by may calcs at 2000 steps per mile you are lookingat about 17.5 miles this week X 4 weeks if you do the whole month bringing you too about 70 mile this month. I say YOU CAN DO IT! but we are happy to have you any way you want to join in.

LM, add in anything you like to bring you to goal and gary, NO more excusses for you! I say TM (with or without snack) for the super bowl for you :)

I took the day off but put the pedometer back on today and i waled 2 miles just in chores, retrieving kids and sitting on my butt :) i am not counting it.

Dixie and her best doggie friend and her mom and I are headed out for a few hours of hiking tomorrow. I can't wait! I love weekends to take a chunk off my goal because i hate seeing the 0/75.

Night night, tomorrow starts my month.

02-02-2008, 12:16 AM
Hey all...first off way to go on meeting, making and/or surpassing January goals!!! WOOHOO!!! Way to GO!!!
I am posting a personal challenge of 100 miles this month, I've done it in the past, so hoping this time around I can surpass it...most of it will be logged outdoors, as I have a 10K race on Feb. 24th, conditioning the lungs now for the cold temps.

L144S...I live in the SNOW, ICE, & SLEET belt of MA.
You know north and west of 495, lucky me!!!!!!! (Leominster/Fitchburg area)

02-02-2008, 12:56 AM
Well I surpassed last month's 40 so this month I will try for 45 with 2 less days in the month. I'm sure it can be done.

1.5 today, more to come this weekend!

02-02-2008, 08:38 AM
Welcome Birgit!
Finally above freezing again. Woo hoo! Got out and did 4 with a friend yesterday. I'll be watching basketball from 8am-4pm and then it's off to church DD has to acolyte so...I'm hoping to get in one of those 20 minute strength training sessions.
Have a great Saturday!

02-02-2008, 09:53 AM
I did 91 miles last month even though my goal was 50, so I think it's time to up that!!! February is a bit shorter than January, so I'll set my goal at 90 miles - that's basically a little better than last month, and last month was a great running month for me so it'll be a struggle.

Good luck to everyone with their goals - WE CAN DO IT!

02-02-2008, 01:17 PM
3.5 miles this morning.

Birgit~ you'd be surprised with yourself, I think. It's amazing what we can do with the right state of mind and good support!

I'm so impressed with everyone for doing so good and reaching and going over their goals last month!!!:carrot:

02-02-2008, 02:07 PM
7.33 in the snow

02-02-2008, 03:25 PM
5 miles roundtrip run to go pick up my race packet/t-shirt for tomorrow's 4 mile race. I need to run 3.1 miles every day in February to meet my goal, so this and tomorrow's race will put me on track since I biked yesterday instead of running.

02-02-2008, 08:22 PM
9 miles on my hike today, lots of slushy snow, but it was so beautiful in the woods today. Going again tomorrow!

02-02-2008, 08:36 PM
I doubt I'll make the same 53 miles I did in January. I think I'll bring it down to 40 or perhaps 45. I also will probably only post my miles weekly.

2 miles

02-03-2008, 12:56 AM
Finally some nice running weather...4 miles today...I took tomorrow off (work) to stay home and watch the Patriots win the Super Bowl...I will be out and running early tomorrow, hoping to get in 6 by lunchtime.

4 down...96 to go!!! :dizzy:

4 miles this morning puts me at 7.5/60
Dixie ~ that sounds so great!

02-03-2008, 02:27 PM
7 mile hike today. I need to get some winter hiking boots as my bean boots are just not made for that kind of walking. my feet hurt,
BUT We went to another state park today, lots of hills, snow and water!

02-03-2008, 02:47 PM
Hello Everyone, and thank you all for the rousing welcome and encouragement.

L144S - thanks for doing the math for me. 70 miles in Feb, huh? yowzah... But you're right - it's probably not impossible to do. One day and one step at a time...

Just finished a 2.5 mile walk with my doggie and so far for the day my pedometer reads 6200 steps. Since it's only 1:45pm, I'm pretty sure I won't have trble meeting my 7k commitment for the day.

02-03-2008, 03:12 PM
13.2 today

20.5/135 off to a good start!

02-04-2008, 11:58 AM
4 this morning. I will take tomorrow off as it is a very full day.

02-04-2008, 01:04 PM
I'm back in it this month!! :carrot:

I'm setting my goal at 35 miles.

02-04-2008, 02:02 PM
L, I'm hearing you on enjoying the snowy walks. A friend and I did 4.5 this morning. It snowed really hard, but by the second mile the wind had died down and it was just beautiful. The snow covered even our eyelashes. It actually snowed more than 2 inches in the hour+ we were out there! Everything just felt clean and crisp. I had driven to her rural home to walk a loop we enjoy. Yes, it was already snowing when I left. On my way home there were 2 cars and a tractor pulling a manure spreader in the ditches!!! My guardian angel really worked overtime today. I'm hoping to do 3 more yet today, but now it's raining.

02-04-2008, 06:01 PM
Didn't post yesterday, but I did a 4 mile race and then also opted to walk home from a brunch instead of taking the subway (0.9 miles).

02-04-2008, 06:02 PM
3 more on the TM. It's done, but I'm hating that machine ugh!

02-04-2008, 08:48 PM
Good evening, All -

Don't quite know how I did this today, but according to my step counter I'm up to 9k steps - without even really trying. Guess taking the longer, more scenic route to work in the morning is paying off :D

Be well, Everyone -

02-05-2008, 02:21 AM
Hey all, I managed to get in 12 miles over the past 2 days...

02-05-2008, 10:05 AM
Well I almost made it to 40 last month so I'm gonna try it once more.
Got in 3.5 miles this morning

02-05-2008, 01:19 PM
Hi, I'm new to 3FC and so far I'm loving this site. Everyone is so positive and helpful. I'm up for a challenge so I'm going to try to do 75 miles by the end of this month. I haven't been real motivated so I'm hoping this challenge will help me. :tread:

02-05-2008, 02:19 PM
:wel3fc: Johnson. and :welcome3: to the cahllange!

02-05-2008, 02:47 PM
Thanks for the warm welcome. If I figured it right I will have to walk 3 miles every day for the rest of the month. I walked 1.75 this morning and plan on going home and walking at least 2 more. :?:Can anyone tell me how much of an incline I should be doing? I have been walking the treadmill for awhile but I don't know if I should be walking with an incline the whole time or what. Thanks in advance for all your help.

02-05-2008, 03:18 PM
6.5 this morning - 15.6/135

02-05-2008, 05:46 PM
Johnson, I think it can be fun to try a program on your TM and see what works best for you with the incline. I don't love the TM so I am sure others will chime in on how to increase the incline as you get more fit.

As for the 3 a day. it is a great goal. i find since I walk outside some days I do more and somedays less and sometimes, like today with a TON of rain and a really full day that I will skip a day, but that is life and making exercise wok into your plan.

02-05-2008, 08:35 PM
Hi Johnson - glad you're here! Sorry, I know nothing about treadmills so can't help you.

Sounds like everyone is right on track. Great going, Friends!

I did a 2 mile WATP DVD this morning cuz it was raining pretty hard outside and I couldn't walk. Counting that as 4k steps, I'm up over 9.5k steps for the day. I might even reach 10k today before I go to bed. I'm pretty excited by that.

02-05-2008, 11:00 PM
oops! Forgot to post this week-end...

8/75 miles

02-05-2008, 11:13 PM
Since I was a slug this weekend, I did a couple more miles.

02-06-2008, 09:12 AM
Welcome Johnson, Living in WI I am forced to use my TM much more than I would like lol The TM is a great way to exercixe though. I've found to bust the most calories and get your heart rate going it's best to vary your incline. My TM starts at 1.5%. I'll stay there for a quarter mile and then pop up to 4% for a quarter back down to 1.5% a quarter up to 8% back down etc.....enough to push myself so I feel uncomfortable, not painful or miserable, then drop back down. Of course I have days I use no incline at all. Keeping moving seems to be the most important rule.

I did 3 slippery miles yesterday. The slush and yuck hid black ice. I never went down, but came close a couple of times. I also did a 20 min yoga dvd and a 20 min pilates dvd. They didn't really focus on the upper body in the way I wanted them to, but it shook things up and I did enjoy it.

14 of 72 miles
4 of 8 20 min upper body work outs

02-06-2008, 10:03 AM
Yucky rainny day 2 so i went to the gym. I should use it more but I like being out so much better AND I joined to WO with a friend and we just don't go together. Also I avaided January as it is always a zoo there, but February has brought less people and open machines!

Lovinmom, do you have a pair of yak trax? (http://yaktrax.com/productspro.aspx) they sell them all over, get the pro because of the velcro, but you can walk on anything and not slip.

02-06-2008, 10:46 AM
L, no I haven't invested in anything like that. I don't know what it is about me like that. I've been walking and hiking for 20 years. This past summer I bought my first pair of "good" shoes. I'd always just worn a K-Mart or Wal-mart brand of shoe?!?!?! I also bought my first whicking shirts this summer as well. I even borrow my children's MP3 players and don't have my own LOL I'm definitely putting winter foot gear on my wish list for next winter.

02-06-2008, 10:48 AM
Lovnmom, thank you for the advice, I will try that. I'm glad I joined this challenge because I got up this morning and was being lazy but remembered I had to post so I did walk 3.25 miles. :carrot: Now I need to cut my calories. For some reason I really have been craving sweets. That has to stop!

5 done 70 to go!

02-06-2008, 12:05 PM

02-06-2008, 02:37 PM
Hi all!

I am back from vacation, where the most exercise I did was lifting my drinks :dizzy: I did find the outdoor track on the ship - does it count that I looked for it???????

Okay, so, getting into Feb late and having done zip to date, I will shoot for 75 miles.

02-06-2008, 04:54 PM
Just over 10 miles this evening - 25.9/135

02-06-2008, 09:08 PM
Only 3K steps today. Didn't walk to work cuz the weather sucked. But frankly, I know better. My father always said "There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing." And goodness knows I have the clothing for VT weather. Besides, I could have done an indoor WATP DVD if I weren't so darn lazy.

Tomorrow is a better day. For those of you on track, way to go!

Ceegee - welcome back. Sounds like a fun vacation! Guess now it's time to buckle down to reality once again, huh? Good luck.

02-06-2008, 10:55 PM

2 miles to blow the stin off the dog so sh behaves around the wee ones :) I hoe to go back out for another 2 later this afternoon.

02-08-2008, 03:09 PM
Catching up a little...forgot to add my daily runs so here's what I have so far.

6/40 a bit behind but I have been sick all week so I am ok with this number for now.

02-08-2008, 04:48 PM
liligurl, Will this be your first child? Hang in there. Being a mom is great!

L, How cool is reading with a pooch? I wonder who'll enjoy it more, Miss Dixie, the children, or you? I think that's such a neat way to reach out to your community.

I got out and did an awesome 7 today. I was feeling a little sluggish and jumble minded. My second mile ended at the top of my first hill and the rush hit. After that it was nothing but happiness.....If you enjoy a little "food porn" now and again check out my post on pg 55 or 56 over at the 40 somethings support thread. Let's just say I enjoyed my yummies yesterday. Thus the sluggish start today, but the oh so necessary longer walk!!!!

21 of 72

02-08-2008, 08:52 PM

I still got in 3.25 on the treadmill while Angie took the dogs on a 3.5 mile run.

18.25/75 miles

I have to work tomorrow so I won't be getting my Starbucks 3-4 mile walk in with Angie and the mutts :(

02-08-2008, 11:18 PM
Awww! Rover reading sounds fun!!! My labs would eat the books....

02-11-2008, 05:33 AM
Hello all,
I managed to get in 8 yesterday...hoping to get in many, many more before Thursday night, no running after Friday for a week, then I will be playing catch up... (10K on 2/24)
55/100..probably not going to make it due to the eye surgery..darn it  but I will do my best...
Maybe the surgeon will let me walk? Hmmm? ;)

02-11-2008, 04:31 PM
liligurl, Eye surgery?

I'm playing catch up myself. It was 45 below yesterday but the winds have died down today bringing us to a sunny 4 below. I decided to do 7 on the TM, keeping it at 4 mph, but doing a lot of incline. I did not know my TM turns itself off at 100 min ?!?!?!?! Who new? It started right back up and didn't lose any of the stats. I just thought that was so weird.

Hope everyone is having a terrific February!

02-11-2008, 05:35 PM
7.3 miles this evening - 60/135

02-11-2008, 10:52 PM
4.75 miles

02-12-2008, 03:14 AM
Hey all, the running is going well, and so is the weight loss (yeah!!!)...I have to dial it back next week to absolutely no running, I'm having Lasik Surgery on Friday (yeah!!!!!:carrot:) I can't wait, I hate wearing my glasses..No contacts for 2 weeks prior to surgery  Than after surgery they say no running for 1 week due to the incision (no bouncing) I have about 1 day after that to get ready, arhh . Hubby and I made the decision that, if the MD says no running till after the 24th we are committed to walking the full 10K instead, I committed to this months ago and I will finish one way or the other, I want the finishers medal, and I figure surgery is an acceptable reason to keep it steady (walking) As long as I get out there and get it done, right?,,,,,

02-12-2008, 08:09 AM
I had lasiks last Feb. 21st! I would never look back. I was asticmatic and near-sided, now I am 20/20 and 20/15 with no astigmatism EVER again. The big thrill was that 6 hours after sugery I could rad the guide on the tv. You will need a few days to re-coup and drving at night was tough for a few weeks. The one thing they don't tell you is that your eyes will be tired and you will want to close them. Also make sure you have good quality sunglasses. I was a big fan of the drugstore variety. I still haven't done it but I have them in the car to take my old frames and make them into sunglasses.
Walking should be fine!
Hey congrats on the adoption, when will your son come home?

No walking yesterday, just too darn cold. I plan to get out sometime today and if not it is me the TM and the biggest looser tonight!

02-12-2008, 11:53 AM
Hi guys,

Did 4.25 on TM last night.

02-12-2008, 11:54 AM

3.4 miles on the treadmill last night.

02-12-2008, 03:52 PM
got in 4.55 on TM at gym....

Laura (or anyone!) - when you race, do you find you run alot faster than your pace on the TM, or the same? I am so terrified of racing and sucking at it bc I get nervous, lol!!!

02-12-2008, 09:18 PM
3.75 miles 3 of which were running. Let me go die of shock now!

02-12-2008, 11:14 PM
4.5 miles on the TM today

02-13-2008, 05:49 AM
Ceegee...I personally run faster on the road (races) and I love that my time always suprises me when I finish. Just go run and don't forget to enjoy it. When it comes to running races..they are so much fun, you'll love it, I promise!!! ;)
L144S...I'm terrified to have the surgery done, but I know that I will be fine when all is said and done....still I'm scared
Not sure if I mentioned this before but, we finally got final word on hubby's hips, not good! He's 36 and is diagnosed with DJD (degeneritve joint disease) and requires bilateral hip replacement...he is not a happy camper!

1.5 on the treadmill last night, 1 on the treadmill this morning.

Ceegee, it kind of depends on how you do the treadmill. I hate running on the treadmill, so I do it in very short bits - usually a mile or two. My races/runs outside are usually much longer than that, so when I'm on the treadmill I always try to pick up the pace. It's a lot easier to shoot for a sprint when you know you only have to do it for a few minutes! Plus I don't have a Garmin, so I never know my pace outside until I get home and map it out and clock it. On the treadmill, I know my pace exactly, so I always try to crank it up.

Way to go cakeses!!!

liligurl, My husband had Lasik a number of years ago. I was allowed to be in the room and watch. It's a very interesting procedure. He was like a little kid on the way home. "I can read thaaaaat now!" very exciting, but his eyes did get very dry and painful and we had to pull over and do eyedrops a number of times. The hospital was an hour away. By the time we reached home though he had no more discomfort and still swears it's the best $4,000 he's ever spent.....Give your hubby a hug and surgery is definitely a good reason to walk rather than run.

I did 5 yesterday. Road conditions were the worst I'd faced all year. I was sure I would go down, but I didn't. My time was slower than normal, but it's all in a days walk.

1 quick one on the TM to warm up the muscles then 20 min of yoga and 20 min of pilates. Yeah, I'm actually doing my strength training!!!!! Yes, that is a little pride slipping through. Truthfully though, thanks for being here. Back in Oct And then every month after I've tried to add strength training back into my week. Until I committed to it here at 3FC though I'd always let it slip. You're all so nice and not pushy, but you still have a way of keeping me accountable!!!

6 more miles today but I have to tell ya, this will probably be all for awhile. Lasik surgery tomorrow, nervous yet excited. ;) I will be walking as much as I can after Saturday. If I feel up to it, hubby has agreed to let me go to the mall (its across the street from the MD office) Sephoria's specifically and get all new eye makeup. You have to throw out all old makeup. I hate this because I wear Bare Escentuals and it lasts forever and I have a ton left, and its not cheap!!!
I promised the puppies that I would take them for walks this weekend, just to get outside, so I'm hoping for a few miles. :running:
61/100...hoping to get close I have a committed 6 more anyway (10K 2/24) :p

Night was a problem for a few weeks, I had rainbows around lights for a few weeks. the nice part was that as the days got longer, it was less of a problem and I didn't notice it again.
You will be fine, take the happy pill they are going to give you, listen to music, whatever you need.
Are you going into Boston? who is doing your surgery?

We got another 11 inches of snow, that was preceded by 3" of rain and sleet, on Sunday. My get up and go has got up and went. Mon brought another 2 inches of snow. Kids were home from school for 5 days in a row. I know, quit your whining already. Exercise has consisted of bowling 2 games on Sat, because it was actually beautiful weather and we could drive between Thur's 7" (which actually became 8) and Sun's 11 inches and 2 - 1/2 mile walks 1/2 mile was in blizzard conditions to get milk and movie rentals for survival and 1/2 mile was in 15 below zero windchills to get out for sanity. So, I'm way behind in my miles and no desire to use the TM, but still way to cold to go any distance outside. I'm hoping to do at least 4 today. I'll repost if I do!!

I had the Lasik on Friday at about 8pm, went home and slept till 3:19am, I put in the drops and walked out of the bathroom and looked down my long hallway and I could read the clock on the microwave, WOW! I had been faithful as far as the post op requirements. Post-op day one I had routine check up and was 20/20...and told it would improve over time. Night driving is a little fun, with the starburst effects but not too bad. I do have some eye strain tonight as I write this (computer oriented, I'm sure) I have had abosolutley NO pain, NONE!!! How wonderful, best money ever spent...thanks for the pep talk! Surgery was actually at he Lasik Vision Institute in Burlington, Ma...directly across the street from Lahey Clinic...

L, Thanks for the "warm" wishes. I did get on the TM and do 6 today, but I never did any yesterday. I walked around and took pictures of the snow and just the cutest one of a squirrel on top of the corn bin. It's a huge steel bin. The squirrel has figured ouy if he climbs, way up high, there is a vent he can enter. My husband thinks there are 4 of them. He has started leaving the ground door open for them, but they still climb way up to enjoy their snack sitting on top of the bin. Sooooo cute.

liligurl, I'm so glad everything went well. Happy healthy eye vibes are coming your way.

L144S...actually, I haven't gotten any walking in this week.
We meet with a really nice surgeon who gave us the BAD news. It appears Brian (hubby) won't be putting off the hip surgery for a year like he had hoped. We finally got to see the MRI and the X-rays and they are not good. His left hip is almost dislocated and that is why he is experiencing lots of pain, it is just bone on bone, there is no cartilage left in the hip socket. His right is bone on bone also, but atleast it is still in place at the moment. We are meeting with the surgeon on :luck2you: 3/17 to schedule surgery. He's hoping 4/5 days in hospital then home for rehab (PT) then back to work in 3 months (light duty for 6 months) this does not make him happy as he is an inner perimeter security investigator at his Super Max prison, where he has inmate contact as part of is job, on light duty he will probably man a tower, not a hightlight to his investigator credentials.
We took the plunge and joined a new gym this week, at the surgeons urging...2 pools and a hot tub. Now there is no excuse not to comply with therapy homework, hee hee. We plan on going this weekend and scoping it out...they have a 3 lane:running: walking/ running track, so nice not to have to rely on a treadmill. Hubby was told he could swim:swim:, eliptical, and stairmaster on a pain free day, upper body weight training only:lifter:...however no tennis, spinning, racketball or basketball. He says in time he will be whole again, hee hee...we've moved out of depression mode onto courage and facing it head on, I told him I expect nothing less.
On a positive note he was told no more running and has agreed to cheer me on at all my races this year, I have committed to 25 races so far and he is right on board. He is my cheering squad, as I am his.
************************************************** *************
Now onto HAPPY HAPPY NEWS... :yay:We finally have a HOME INSPECTION scheduled for this Friday for the adoption!!! We have been waiting months for this. This is huge, now we can move on in the adopting process and get he MAPP classes out of the way (10 weeks of parenting classes):yay:
I posted a pic of hubby under profile pic...check out the shape he is in, and that was achieved with his bad hips?, woohoo! can't wait to see where he will be with new ones, mind you up until last week we were running 15/20 miles a week. Now I know why he said he hurt afterwards, but he continued to run.

Helen, I know it's not your goal, but you impress me every month. Do you ever have the, " I don't want to do this today, " days like I do??????

Got myself busy and did 3 on the TM yesterday plus, 20 min each of yoga and pilates. Got busy again this morning and did 2 on the TM and 20 min of yoga. I'm following my kids all around for basketball tomorrow, but if I stay focused and waste no time I can still get in the 17 miles I'd scheduled for this week. I'm not nearly as far behind as I'd thought. The sun has returned and I'm feeling my mo jo coming back. The sun is actually up (not all the way) by 6:30am now and is still out (somewhat) at 6pm. We actually got to like 23 dgrees above 0 yesterday. I can live with that as long as I gots me some sun!!!!

This morning was one of those days, I went out and had a curry and rather too much beer last night with friends from running club, but even though I didn't really fancy it, my plan was to run to work, and my work clothes were at the gym so it made more sense to go with the plan than to work out in my head how to get there without running. And it helps having a goal that I need to train hard for, I don't do it because of my weight any more, I do it because I want to break 3:45 in my next marathon.

02-22-2008, 05:09 PM
Helen, Ah curry and rather too much beer with friends. Sounds like you had a great night. Such a goal you're striving for. I find that simply amazing. My goal is to get busy and move every day. It sounds kind of lowly compared to a 3:45 marathon, but I can be happy for you and proud of myself at the same time. We've each got our own journey, but I can't help but be in awe of "real" runners. That's just so cool.

Me, another 2 on the TM this afternoon. While I watched a yoga video. 5 new "to me" dvds came in from the inter-library loan. Some are yoga and some pilates. I'm really feeling so good. 3 days of bright sunshine can do that for me. There's talk of sunshine Sat and Sun yet and then more snow on Mon. I'm gonna soak it up and enjoy it while I can. Why the TM then, you ask? Ok maybe you didn't, but I like to share. Slush up to my ankles, like everywhere. What can bring on illness in nice weather like this? Wet feet and the belief that's it nice weather just because the sun is shining. I've had no real probs with cold or flu this fall or winter. I'm hoping to keep it that way. Healthy vibes your way too!!!

Ennay, supposedly 1 pound of weight is 2 seconds per mile, so your calculations are about right.

Yesterday I did 1.4 miles on the elliptical before I got interrupted and had to jump off. Annoying.

Ennay, supposedly 1 pound of weight is 2 seconds per mile, so your calculations are about right.

Depending on the source it is 2-3 seconds per mile or some sources list it in terms of %. It is really hard to measure because most people dont gain or lose a ton of weight without also affecting fitness. I looked at my own times...before I got pg I had worked my weight down to ~ 146-150 doing almost the same amount and quality of training as last summer when I was 128-132 and I compared races then and I was coming out somewhere close to 3 seconds improvement.

I never thought I would care about 3 seconds, but it adds up!

Thanks for asking, I am run auctions this time of year for schools and it is really busy. I am running 1 working 1 and a school i worked with last year called agian for help. So i spend a ton of time on e mail, and the auction websites and 3 of them at that, so lots to do on top of keeping the kids hapy with family game nights homework and activities...nothing any other working mm does but it makes for little chit caht time :)
I am also so dissapointed in my walking this month. The weather has been bad, I have't gotten to the Y with so much work and well excusses! I should do better next month. we are going to visit the outlaws in NC and I love to alk on the beach and there is a really nice 5 mile walk and since it is so flat I make record time! it took me an hour to do the 2 miles this moring because of all the slush and snow, but you have it worse so no complaining for me.

I think it's amazing that you can work, make time for game nights, keep your family happy, all the other chores that come with being a mom, and still make time for exercise. Spring will make everything easier for all of us. I can't waite!

3 on the TM today. Getting things done earlier hoping to get in some yoga later as well. Will edit if I do.

On Tuesday: 0.4 miles at 10 MPH on the treadmill (got inspired by TBL), in two short segments! Then 0.3 miles on a HUGE incline (15%) on the treadmill.
Not going to make it this month, but every little bit still counts...

5.0 today...cut my run short for nature

Very pleased...my original training plan for february was ~ 145 miles so no skipped days and all the little extra miles added up to an extra 6.
