  • Hi, I'm new to 3FC and so far I'm loving this site. Everyone is so positive and helpful. I'm up for a challenge so I'm going to try to do 75 miles by the end of this month. I haven't been real motivated so I'm hoping this challenge will help me.
  • Johnson. and to the cahllange!
  • Thanks for the warm welcome. If I figured it right I will have to walk 3 miles every day for the rest of the month. I walked 1.75 this morning and plan on going home and walking at least 2 more. Can anyone tell me how much of an incline I should be doing? I have been walking the treadmill for awhile but I don't know if I should be walking with an incline the whole time or what. Thanks in advance for all your help.
  • 6.5 this morning - 15.6/135
  • Johnson, I think it can be fun to try a program on your TM and see what works best for you with the incline. I don't love the TM so I am sure others will chime in on how to increase the incline as you get more fit.

As for the 3 a day. it is a great goal. i find since I walk outside some days I do more and somedays less and sometimes, like today with a TON of rain and a really full day that I will skip a day, but that is life and making exercise wok into your plan.
  • Hi Johnson - glad you're here! Sorry, I know nothing about treadmills so can't help you.

Sounds like everyone is right on track. Great going, Friends!

I did a 2 mile WATP DVD this morning cuz it was raining pretty hard outside and I couldn't walk. Counting that as 4k steps, I'm up over 9.5k steps for the day. I might even reach 10k today before I go to bed. I'm pretty excited by that.
  • oops! Forgot to post this week-end...

    8/75 miles
  • Since I was a slug this weekend, I did a couple more miles.

    6/45
  • Welcome Johnson, Living in WI I am forced to use my TM much more than I would like lol The TM is a great way to exercixe though. I've found to bust the most calories and get your heart rate going it's best to vary your incline. My TM starts at 1.5%. I'll stay there for a quarter mile and then pop up to 4% for a quarter back down to 1.5% a quarter up to 8% back down etc.....enough to push myself so I feel uncomfortable, not painful or miserable, then drop back down. Of course I have days I use no incline at all. Keeping moving seems to be the most important rule.

I did 3 slippery miles yesterday. The slush and yuck hid black ice. I never went down, but came close a couple of times. I also did a 20 min yoga dvd and a 20 min pilates dvd. They didn't really focus on the upper body in the way I wanted them to, but it shook things up and I did enjoy it.

    14 of 72 miles
4 of 8 20 min upper body work outs
  • Yucky rainny day 2 so i went to the gym. I should use it more but I like being out so much better AND I joined to WO with a friend and we just don't go together. Also I avaided January as it is always a zoo there, but February has brought less people and open machines!

Lovinmom, do you have a pair of yak trax? they sell them all over, get the pro because of the velcro, but you can walk on anything and not slip.

    24/75
  • L, no I haven't invested in anything like that. I don't know what it is about me like that. I've been walking and hiking for 20 years. This past summer I bought my first pair of "good" shoes. I'd always just worn a K-Mart or Wal-mart brand of shoe?!?!?! I also bought my first whicking shirts this summer as well. I even borrow my children's MP3 players and don't have my own LOL I'm definitely putting winter foot gear on my wish list for next winter.
