Packaged Meals and Clinics - Nutrisystem, Medifast, Jenny Craig, Etc - Kirstie & Val on PEOPLE cover "Jenny Craig"

I was just walking around my Stop & Shop Supermarket and I was so suprised to look up and see a WONDERFUL photo of Kirstie and Val on the COVER of People Magazine. The Date on the issue is Aug 20 07. So if you get a chance go out and get it. I did not even get a chance to read it yet, but I wanted to give everybody the 'heads up' about the issue out now. I was in the supermarket buying my fresh veggies & fresh fruits & non-fat dairy to go along with my Jenny foods at home.

08-12-2007, 02:29 AM
I thought we could all use the issue for motivation !

08-12-2007, 03:08 AM
Thanks for the heads up. I will be sure to get it, I was wondering how Val was doing. I read about her intentions to lose 30 pounds around January or so but never saw anything since.

08-12-2007, 12:38 PM
I just picked it up...good timing also because I need the motivation!

08-13-2007, 09:50 AM
I heard she already lost 30 and up'd her goal to 40. She is also dating a good looking financial analyst. Very happy for her!

I did get to read the article and yes it was very motivating.

I agree with Val about how I am eating so many more veggies and salads now that I am on Jenny Craig. I actually take the time to look up and down the fresh produce aisle now, instead of just passing it by.

I also like that Kirstie talked about how important it is to work on CONSISTENCY. That has always been a problem for me. All-or-nothing at all. Or else I would go from eating junk to making myself go hungry. I am trying my best to make all 7 days of the week Consistent now (Even Steven) . It takes time, but one step at a time.

Very interesting article, but I was disappointed though that they didn't discuss what kind of exercises they were doing along with the Jenny Craig plan.

Hi Nemesis, You might have missed it because they had it listed in a column right next to their photos instead of in the body of the article. It says that Kirstie says she dances for hours at a time in her living room and she is trying to be more consistent with her workouts and Valerie likes to use the Elliptical machine and also hikes with a weighted vest .

08-18-2007, 03:45 PM
OMG Valerie hikes where I hike and I can't imagine in this heat wearing any kind of weighted vest; arrgh! Unfortunately I have my own "extra weight" to lug around so I don't have to add more. She looks fantastic, I really think the extra weight she wants to lose is "camera ready" thing, I would feel fine where she is now!

Kirstie on the other hand seems like she's faking it....she's gained a chunk of weight back and not owning up, IMO, although I suppose it's hard when you're a paid spokesperson to own up.

The commercial where she's in the car the whole time, it's like, come on....

I thought Roseanne had a funny line -- "Kirstie Alley, New Orleans called, they want to borrow some of your spandex gear to shore up the levees for hurricane season!" LOL....

08-18-2007, 03:49 PM
The other thing is that picture of Val sweeping the deck in Hawaii....I did not think she looked that bad like the tabloids were saying, she didn't look fat, it was just an unflattering angle and a candid shot. Any time the camera is UNDERNEATH you, it emphasizes every shadow, every everything.

Joan Crawford used to say, GET THAT CAMERA UP THERE BOYS, UP UP UP!! Everyone looks like they have a double chin when photographed from that angle.

Well, Val and Kirstie have answered the accusations in an article online. The link is below.

Thanks for the link to that article.

Yep for sure they've answered, but IMO and according to my lying eyes, Val is telling the truth and Kirstie's not owning up.

I know that weight regain is a part of many dieters' lives - I sympathize, but I just don't like being lied to I guess. You can just look at her and tell she's not "within 5 pounds" of that Oprah show, which was weird anyhow, who the heck wears a girdle with a bikini????

What I find strange is that Oprah herself said that when she went on that fast and got into the size 10 jeans for the show, that was the first and last time she ever fit into them, and the pressure of getting into a certain size for an event like that made her go off the deep end, and she didn't wake up for 80 pounds or so.

So why would she orchestrate something like that for Kirstie? It's a terrible idea. I've done it too so I recognize it (losing weight for a wedding, a formal event, a pool party, whatever) it's a yo-yo mindset, which I'm trying to get off of!

Thanks for the link to that article.

I don't mind posting it. BTW, I have used Gildana since the 1980's, created it back then for a character I played in a game (D&D). There are people who still remember me by that name today. Thanks :o

Kirstie's a beautiful woman - even before her weight loss, she looked pretty on "Fat Actress." So she can glam up in these gowns and stuff and look really nice.

But her claims just don't add up.

She says she started at 219#, lost 75#, OK, that would have made her ending weight around 145. So 5'7 and 145, that would be pretty slender.

So then she says she hasn't fluctuated more than 5 lbs because of her "contract" so that would make her around 150 at most, well I don't even know how she can say that with a straight face! At one point around the Oprah bikini-suit thing she was saying she was a size 6. I dunno, I'm just like, why lie about it? I think it would be a more interesting promotion for the company if she said, "OMG, I have to get back on this!"

I just don't think Jenny Craig would keep her if she is telling blatant lies. The truth is that she hAS LOST a lot of weight. She was really big, whatever the scale says,
I am not a particular fan but think the critiscm she is getting is petty and mean. Val doesn't have as much to lose and is very smart to do it now before she needs to lose 75 pounds.I know a little about Jenny Craig as I used to work there.

Well from a corporate viewpoint, there is some risk involved with the current fad of celeb commercial diet spokespeople.

When you see a before & after spot with Joe or Mary Schmoe, you see fat person and then triumphant thin person and end of story, it's a very controlled message.

However, when you have a person who is in the public eye, it's a double-edged sword. When they are doing well, their every public appearance is great publicity. But unlike Mary Schmoe, if there is an "before-after-then after that" ending to the story then the public notices that as well.

As anyone who remembers the disastrous Jenny Craig campaign with Monica Lewinsky will recall!

I hear Genie Francis of General Hospital fame will be promotiong Medifast (an awful program) and Marie Osmond will be doing one too....I believe Nutrisystem. For them it's also a double-edge; wouldn't you prefer to be paid a million bucks for doing this than have to pay to do it? Sounds good but when you factor in the pressure and scrutiny they have -- not so good.

Marie Osmand? Doesn't she weigh like 90 pounds soaking wet? I remember the Monica Lewinski debacle with Jenny I was working there at the time and I asked upper management why we would want her as a role model.I think, unfortunately, some people are just waiting to see people fail. I say give them a break, hey , they are doing something about thier weight problem, not an easy job, as most any dieter can tell you.

08-20-2007, 03:26 PM
Nah, I remember Marie from her borderline anorexic days but nowadays she's more or less where Valerie B. was starting out. Not catastrophic but a little chubby, not 90 pounds though (see link below.) I remember an interview with her where she was saying that before the Donny and Marie show some producer walked her out to a parking lot and told her she was going to embarass her whole family if she was fat on TV - she was only 13!! Throughout the run of the show she was pretty anorexic, that one remark set it off according to her, and in recent years has been in the yoyo club (with me!)

I got nothing against Kirstie, in fact I can relate to her, she seems nice and participates in fundraisers at my daughter's high school (which is by her house in Los Feliz area or L.A.) I'm just sayin' that if she really does have a contract to stay within 5 pounds of 145 she is in violation of it, which presents an interesting dilemma for the company. At what point does the claim become fraudulent?

Which I'm sure is why they've downplayed her presence so significantly on the website & commercials. I tell ya one thing you will never see a Jenny ad with a back or side view of Kirstie!! Heck the last commercial they had her sitting in a convertible, what's next, behind a piano? C09E1B280B4B31D9

Thanks for the exercise info Pookie! :) Totally missed it!

You have a point, K8-EEE. I'm not trying to be mean or petty, but just looking at this from a realistic point of view. If you're going to be a spokesperson for a diet ad, you have got to live up to it. If you fail, at least be honest with the public about it. I believe in this way, the media wouldn't be so quick to snap photos of you all the time, and might even give you a bit more of a break than they would have normally when trying to "catch that photo that implicates you in a lie". I too have noticed that they are showing more of Valerie than they are of Kirstie in commericals, and have wondered if they are slowly phasing out Kirstie. Even the outfits Kirstie is shown wearing these days are mostly free-flowing dresses where you can't tell if she really lost any or not. Normally I wouldn't be so critical of such details, but when the public is trying to gauge whether or not this specific Jenny Craig program works (and keep in mind, you're PAYING for this should you pick this plan), whoever is the spokesperson for this has got to live up to the claims, or at least be honest about why they're failing and how they are working on it.

08-26-2007, 12:25 PM
Any program is only as good as how it is being applied, so I don't think just because she or anybody else has setbacks it means other people can't be successful on it.

I just don't like the dishonesty, it just irks me that she's all, oh, my contract forbids me to gain more than 5 lbs, oh brother, contract schmontract excuse me I do have eyes in my head, who is she trying to kid?

That new commercial with Val Bertinelli jumping out of the cake (looking great) Kirstie is AT LEAST!! 20 pounds up from her Oprah weight and seems to dress exclusively in these odd mu-mu things, while being featured in articles like "how I keep it off.," gimme a break.

These dresses she wears remind me of the old Lynne Redgrave WW commercials where she's in the big "fat dress" and rips it off in the end?
