:welcome: to ~ One LB. Down and Plenty More To GO!

Old friends and New friends,

This thread is open to any and all ladies who have more than a "few" pounds to lose. We all know that if it's more than a "few" that it's gonna take sometime to get rid of it. And when you're in a certain place in your life for a while it's great to have some friends around that know exactly how you feel and know exactly what you're going through. Having support via family and friends is great and certainly a welcomed thought, but sometimes they just don't get it. We'll help encourage you through the down times, discourage you when the dieting alter ego wants to take over and then encourage you some more! Just jump in and make yourself at home. Let's try to live, love and laugh our "weigh" through this!

. . . and what does the number 227 mean to me today?

. . . both my blood sugar monitor and my scale told me that number this morning . . . the blood sugar number is a :( . . . the scale number is a :) . . . BUT, I'll bet it tells me nice things like that until my 'official weigh-in' on Wednesday when it will likely shoot right back up to 229.8 again . . . the story of my life. Oh well, it's nice to know there is a lower number out there somewhere in my future. :dizzy:

Nowhere to go but downward . . . Keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . :carrot:

I'm talking to myself again . . . :D

My son and his family (from Alberta) are arriving today to spend a couple of days -- I hardly get to see them, they live so far away -- My DIL is very, very allergic to cats. She has stayed here in the past (when there were 3 cats) and it is not a pretty sight. Now that there are 6 of them, she doesn't dare try sleeping in this house. Actually going to work out quite well. The granddaughters (age 4 and 13) will stay here so I get a nice visit with them. The parents will stay at a local Motel so they will actually get a little time alone for a change. My poor cats will go nuts . . . they are definitely not used to humans that are able to move almost as fast as they can. should be a fun couple of days. Will probably be a few tears from Angelia (the youngest) because of kitten scratches (unavoidable). Becky is old enough to realize it's going to happen. Jazz is her favourite anyway, so he'll get lots of cuddling time.

So . . . I don't know how much computer time I'll get for the next couple of days . . . but I will be thinking about you, gang, and will stop in whenever I get a chance. Keep things moving and shaking and I'll see you really soon (if you come out from wherever you are hiding, that is ). . . :carrot:

Hey, I hope you remember me, I haven't been on in months. Too busy, school and work and all that.

Well, I haven't lost any weight but I've been to physio so much that my blood pressure is down to 110/70, which is normal, it used to be 130/80. I've heard that there isn't the same risk in being obese when you're otherwise healthy, but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

I need to lose weight, but I'm so busy, which has got me so stressed I just don't know if now is the right time.

Hi ladies. I'm back from my surgery...I would say back from my hysterectomy, but it ended up just being surgery, no removal unfortunately. Dr. got in there and found stage 4 (most severe form) of endometreosis (had no clue I had it). My reproductive organs and atleast my bowel are "frozen"--meaning they've all stuck together because the endo is sooo severe. So my dr cleaned out what he could of the endo (not a whole lot from what I saw from the pics) and closed me up. Has referred me to a specialist (gynocoligist/oncologist) in a town about 30 miles away. Says he deals with these kinds of cases on a weekly basis and is more skilled at handling it than him...atleast he was honest about his lack of skill. I'm greatful for that.

So, I'm dealing with another surgery within the next two weeks. :( I'm pretty down about it, as you can imagine. You have surgery and wake up in recovery thinking you're all fixed up...no more problems...then they drop a bomb on ya like this. I can't tell you what the last few days have been like for me. But.....this too shall pass! I'm determined to come back totally healthy and happy for my family. They've put up with me like this for far too long.

Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Boy do I need them! And to top it all off, don't know if you all remember me talking about my sister in law woes over the last few months...she had the gall to send me two very negative emails since my surgery...i've blocker her. UGH

Linda, Congratulations on your loss! I hope it "sticks". Did you have a nice visit with the family. The sleeping situation sounded optimal. Hope it worked out as well as it sounded.

Diana, So sorry for the failed surgery. I can guess that was pretty disheartening when you woke up and was told the news. Keep your chin up, you WILL get past this and feel better when it's all said and done. That SIL is a real stinker, isn't she!

Hi Rhiannon, Glad you dropped back by. I hope the stress lessens so you can focus on your health again. Good to hear that the blood pressure is lowering.

I'm still hanging around. I've dropped my calories some lately to try to kick start my weight loss again, after having a 7 week plateau. It seems to be working, as I did lose another 2 lbs last week. After struggling with exercise since Daylight Savings Time went into effect (when was that - March ?!?!) I am finally back on track with my early morning walks.

Take care everyone!

Hi gang . . .

Of course my weight loss didn't stick . . . but after the stuff I ate while the family was here, I'm happy I held on to 0.4 of a pound of it. Most of the problem is water, I'm sure so hpefully it will go away by next week.

Oh Diana . . .:hug::hug: What an awful shock that must have been. Wow, your attitude is absolutely great. I've got everyhting :crossed: for you chickie, including my eyes . . . :dizzy:

Hi Rhiannon . . . Really good to see you. Just do the best you can, girl.

Hi Tammy . . . Good to see you too. Good for you with the exercise. that's always my worst area. I certainly did a lot of walking over the past couple of days -- we did a lot of touristy stuff.

Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking day going . . . see you soon. :carrot:

Hi ladies. Boy, if I can ever get past being tired.....does surgery (even when they don't take anything) make you this tired??? I just can't seem to shake it. Although it could be the stress of the upcoming surgery, as well, I suppose. I did find out that my pre-surgery appointment will be July 23....2nd surgery will be July 26 (tenatively).

Good news is that I've neither gained nor lost...well, maybe lost a lb...maybe....if I'm nice to myself! lolol As much IV fluid as I got, I'm surprised I didn't gain!! I was in hospital just over 24 hours and got 3 or 4 bags that I remember. For a little while I was strung out on demerol....who knows what they did to me then! lol

Linda, are we all alone?? Guess everyone's busy. Wish I felt like doing half of the stuff I need to be doing....I'm suspecting that it'll all still be right here when I do get to feeling like tackling it. :(

Guess I'm going to go sleep some more.

Yes, surgery takes a lot out of you. I think you are doing well to be rid of the IV water weight so soon . . . think it took me longer to get rid of that even after my minor (i.e., no full anaesthetic) procedures. Yes, looks like we hve our own little thread right now. :high:

Hey ladies-
Got back tonight...need to get back to water and healthy eating asap!! I indulged on yummy Mexican food 3-4 times (just can't get it here so *had* to! lol)
I think I'll wait a week before getting on the scale...it just can't be good.
But we had a great time and I am sooo tired. Had a 9.5 hour drive which with kids translated into 12 and we started at 6 (which meant up at 5:15) ANyway- time for zzzs, but wanted to check in.
I'm glad this thread isn't totally abandoned!
Diana- I'm thinking of you!
Tammy- glad you've been able to get past your plateau! Bravo for you!
Hey Linda- hope you enjoyed your visit with your family!

Hi, everyone! Wow, is everyone THAT busy? I miss the board the way it USED to be.

I don't have much to report. I haven't braved the scales lately. I've been eating more than normal just because it seems to help with my energy level. Maybe I'm working it all off just healing?? One can hope, I suppose. Maybe I'll brave them today....maybe. I may not find my braveness until after my surgery. lolol I know I"ll lose a little when they take all my "parts" out. lolol

So Linda, how are you?

Hi everyone, Just wanted to pop in and say hello. We've had DH's sister visiting us last week, but she left yesterday morning, so I hope to post more this week.

Everything still the same on the diet front. I ate a little more than usual over the weekend, but nothing too high (still stayed under 1600 per day on those days). I'm trying to keep my calories around 1200- 1300 to try to push to my goal. BOY IS IT SLOW GOING........

Diana, The only surgeries I have had have been C-sections, but DH and DD, who each had two (pretty) big surgeries last year, tell me that it takes quite a while to recover. In fact, my DD11, seemed to take most of a year to get her energy back. Not that I think it will take you that long, but just give yourself time. Is DH a good nurse? ;)

Hi Linda, How are things with you? When do you go in for your surgery?

Emily, Oh I love Mexican food (actually, I seem to say that about every kind of food...hmm...) so if I could only have it when I was traveling, I would want it for every meal. :) I think it's a smart move to get back on track and then wait a week to weigh. The sodium from one mexican meal takes me almost a week to recover from.

Do any of you garden? We are doing a small garden this year and have an abundance of zucchini. I need some zucchini ideas if you've got them. Have a great afternoon.

Hi again . . . :grouphug:

I'm having a really strange day . . . a bit 'out of sorts' . . . probably a knee-jerk-reaction to my life suddenly calming down again. But, not to worry, nothing keeps me down for long so I'm sure I'll be back to normal (or whatever passes for 'normal' :dizzy:) soon.

My weight creeping back up as we approach WWI (Wednesday Weigh In) isn't helping either. For some strange reason, I often have a nice number from the FFM on Sunday and then it's back up by WWI. Nasty old scale-. I'm thinking of changing my official day to Sunday . . . but probably some offshoot of 'Murphy's Law' would then make Wednesday turn into the 'best' (read lowest) day. Oh well. Nowhere to go but down (I hope). ;)

Oh wow, DIANA . . . I know exactly what you mean . . . I have no idea what has happened to so many of the old crowd . . . even our very own Tina is totally MIA :( Hey, good threads come and good threads go, I guess. I post in a few different places on 3FC -- most of them somewhat specialized (Diabetes Forum; Age 50 Plus Forum; Crazy Canuks; Volumetrics) -- but I really do suggest you roam around a little and start posting in new places as well as here. I know I'd be lost without the support network at 3FC and sometimes you just have to expand that network a little.

Hi TAMMY . . . Good to see you too. My surgery is September 20 and I know it will be a long time healing for me. :( Oh well, like Diana, I hope it will eventually be worth a few little pounds. Know that you also post in various places around 3FC because we do bump into each other from time to time.

Anyway, Chickies . . . have a great evening and I hope to be seeing you again soon . . . both here and elsewhere on this great big site . . . :carrot:

Linda, Funny that you mention having a lower weigh in on Sundays. I do that too, and I have finally decided that it is because I sleep slightly later on weekends and weigh slightly later and for whatever reason that translates into a lower weight on weekends. I'm crossing my fingers for your weigh-in tomorrow.

I do post in different areas, well, really where-ever strikes my fancy. And Diana, I would also encourage you to expand your network, as Linda so aptly puts it. There are many great areas of 3FC and I enjoy seeing the ladies from this thread out and about on other threads also. I visit the 100 lb club most days, usually just to read, but I occasionally post, and occasionally in the support forum. I usually click the "New Posts" tab and read whatever sounds like something I would be interested in.

Oh Ugh . . .

Remember the Tortoise . . . Remember the Tortoise . . . Remember the Tortoise . . . Hardly a day goes by that I don't say that to someone somewhere around 3FC.

Guess I just have to keep telling myself the same thing . . . especially every Wednesday as I watch my weight on my "official" day of the week sit about 2 pounds higher than it was the Sunday before . . . but, at least it is a magnificent 0.2 lower than it was last Wednesday. Oh well . . . the general direction is encouraging and the things I've learned and the good habits I've formed in the past year and a half are also encouraging.

Oh . . . yeah . . . Good Morning everybody . . . :grouphug: . . . and thanks for the :crossed:, Tammy . . . your heart was definitely in the right place. Too bad the scale- had other ideas.

I have to throw a little :tantrum: over my stupid scale. It was down to 226.6 again this morning -- naturally, now that it's not official. Since I'm feeling a little jaded about this weight-loss-stuff today; thought I give you this list to add to your pile of reading . . . :)

D I E T is a four-letter word . . . that really means . . .

Disallowing Imperfection Equals Trouble
Dangerously Inadvisable Eating Tactics
Deprivation Inevitable Everything Taboo
Donít Imagine Eating Treats
Definitely Inviting Eternal Torment

Determined Initial Enthusiasm Temporary

Deny Ingesting Everything Tasty
Did I Eat Today

Linda, I like the acronym = Dangerously Inadvisable Eating Tactics. That's what most of my "diets" were in the past anyway.

hi everyone. we had a weekend trip to take the kids to magic springs in hot springs arkansas. it was fun...the kids really enjoyed it. although, i rode 2 roller coasters (less than two weeks after surgery)...not the smartest thing i've ever done. i was seriously sore the next day (yesterday). i could tell halfway thru the first one that i was going to be sore...then like a dummy i got on another one. how dumb is that? guess i deserved my soreness. i figured i'd take advantage of being able to do it...my second surgery is coming up in less than two weeks...i won't be doing much of anything for atleast 6 weeks after it. sounded like a good excuse anyway.
i ate way too much sodium while we were out. i know i've gained weight...and i'm swollen on top of that. i figure i'm going to lose some with surgery though....especially this surgery. i'll be making an attempt this week at cutting back (hope it's not too half-hearted)....we'll see what happens.

hope everyone's having a wonderful day!!

Hi Linda and other ladies!! :) Well, I'm one week out from surgery. Gettin' just a tap nervous...although not probably as bad as I'll be this time next week. There's just as much to be excited about post-surgery as there is to be nervous about pre-surgery. Maybe that's why.....Poor hubby is scared to death. He keeps asking me, "You promise you're gonna be okay? You promise you'll come out of surgery?" I think I've done more comforting to everyone else than I've received from anyone. How backwards is that? LOLOL Not complaining....it's just funny to me. :)

Still haven't braved the scales since right after first surgery. It just can't be good. I'm wanna wait til I know something's been lost (my reproductive system!!!) before I get back on 'em.....although when I go to Dr. MOnday, I'm sure they'll weigh me. :( UGH!! Keep me in your prayers, guys! Please!

Hi ladies!

Long time no see, I know. I had been aiming only to put on 25 lbs with this pregnancy - *snorts with suppressed laughter*.

Yeah right - I went a bit mad and hit the 25 lbs about two months ago!!

BUT - I took myself in hand and managed to maintain that weight for about 7 weeks. Then went away on vacation last week and came back 5 lbs heavier. So I've now put on 30 lbs. However, I am determined to lose those vacation pounds and maintain at a 25 gain for a while longer, then I can allow myself slowly to get up to 30-35 lbs.

I have my maintenance diet all figured out - I allow myself a few indulgences over the weekend and then am really good from Monday to Thursday. My little group still comes round on Thursday nights so that's my weigh-in day. The indulgences make me feel like I'm not totally deprived. I haven't actually been calorie counting, just being sensible. But I do want to lose those vacation pounds so I am calorie counting till they've gone, then I'll go back to the maintenance diet.

I do actually have medical approval for maintaining - when I told my midwife that I had put a lot of weight on early on and had been trying to maintain for a while, she said that was fine. Baby has plenty of fat to feed off.

Where is Tina? I have read this thread and the previous one and no sign.
