Default Whelp, I sucked it up and did it!

I joined the local Sportsplex this morning! I go in tomorrow for a "training" on the equipment and my first strenth workout...then I plan on continuing for at least 3 days per week. I'm actually very excited! It was also VERY nice to be able to write 217 instead of 261 down when I had to fill in my weight!!! Can't wait to write 145!!!!!!!!!

Does your sportsplex have an ice skating rink?

No, it's actually a very small county complex. There is an outdoor pool, but not an indoor one. There is a track and a weight room with free weights and machines, a cardio room with the bikes, treadmills, and ellipticals. I'm not sure what else they have...I haven't had a tour yet...I'm mainly interested in the strength training so that's what I was signing up for. The rest will just be a bonus. I'm sure my kids will enjoy the pool this summer...we're putting one in next summer, though, so that will become less of a thing for them! 3 of them are old enough to use the weight room if they choose (well, 2 are now and 1 will be in June). I've made my youngest son (12) wait until he was 13 to do any type of weight training. That was based on the advise of his doctor as well as his coaches. He's chomping at the bit to get in there!

Ok, I did it! Had a really good time but I'm already feeling that stiff, shaky, sore feeling deep in my arms and legs. I'm sure that's a GOOD thing! I will go again on Thursday and then next week I'll go Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I really liked all the machines! They're kind of intimidating, though. I had to keep reading the stickers to see what I was supposed to be doing. The greatest thing was that even though I obviously need to lose weight I wasn't TOO horrible looking in the mirrors. I was actually OK with what saw...knowing that I'm working really hard to improve it!

So that's the update! Thanks for all the encouragement!

Congradulations. I really enjoy the weight training. I REALLY hate the mirrors, though...Sigh...Hopefully someday soon I will have your attitude and won't look away everytime I catch myself! One good thing about the mirrors, though, is that when I do catch myself I am reminded to suck in my gut!

So, what exactly are you doing to strength train?

Tricia - That's fantastic - I always enjoy that feeling when I have pushed myself to the point where I feel like a limp noodle..... You are going to enjoy it soooo much.... I see a future addict in the making....

Do they have trainers available to talk to about how you are progressing and what you want to do?
