Janette, I feel the same way about portion control.... sometimes I need a reminder too and that I'm going to puke because I ate too much feeling shouldn't be it, LOL! Most of the time when I cook I only make enough for me to have one modest serving so that I'm not tempted to keep eating and that works for me. I also try to leave a little on my plate too knowing I can always get a snack later if I need it.

I feel that the cornbread or any other Core recipes can be considered Core...as long as whoever is making them pays attention to their hunger guage and doesn't binge.

The Core plan satisfies you because it is really hard to go on an "apple binge" and eat 7 of them in one sitting...and I have a hard time seeing anyone sitting in front of the tv and scarfing 4 salads.

I think as long as you are exercising caution-and making a small batch of whatever said recipe-and eating a small serving of it then you are fine. If you are making a batch of Core muffins and eating the whole dozen because they are all Core ingredients-then you are missing the point.

It is no different than an Atkin's dieter scarfing an entire pound of bacon or drowning their veggies in butter because there are no carbs in it...or a fat gram counter eating an entire pint of ice cream themselves just because it is fat free. You can have indulgences and use these recipes within reason...but no matter what plan you are on-don't dance around the rules just to find a "legal" way on your plan to be a pig.

Just my 2 cents...

I had to look through my book and from the getting started book on page 32 at the bottom, it states that the easiest way to manage recipes is to combine only core foods together. The recipe would then count as a core food.

So, if this means making corn"mush" out of cornmeal, applesauce and splenda, then to me, it's a core food. People can get really creative and I agree with everyone here that if you are doing well and losing, then keep baking!!

Spryng, there is a quote from Dolly Parton when she was asked how she lost/maintained her weight. She says she never cleans her plate and always "Leaves some for the angels."

I used to share with the dog, but then I had to put him on a diet.
I think we are doing a great job learning the program, finding what works and losing weight. Onward and downward.
