belmagick -- Being thin wouldn't suit you?? Obviously they were slightly jealous of your weight loss and how good you looked

Hey, look at this way, at least it's not your mother-in-law who's saying horrible things. I dropped my kids off for a few hours about a month ago and she hadn't seen me for awhile. She exclaimed as she rolled her eyes, "you're way too skinny! Aren't you a little old to want to look like a cover girl?" I was too taken aback to even respond, lol. Although in all 'fairness', she's called me 'skinny beyotch' for twenty years behind my back so I'm used to her viciousness. Word does get back to me you know. She's like at least 40 pounds overweight and puts me down every single chance she gets. It could always be worse. Just a thought.

Fitmom, I think a lot of people have completely forgotten about this. My best friend (who is 5'1 and wears a size 0... in college she wore a 00 or kids' clothes) and I (who is 5'9 and wears a size 28... in college I wore a 24) would go to the gym all the time together. We would celebrate our weight goals together on the scale. The day that she weighed over 100lb and I weighed under 200lb was hilarious. We were high five-ing and dancing around the scale, and I'm sure that people had thought we had lost our minds. People would always tell her that she was too thin, but she would always get upset. I never learned why until we started going to the gym together. She was trying to gain muscle (and still is for the past decade) but it is really difficult for her. On the other side of that, she thinks it's cool that I can gain weight so easily (WHY!!!!) because she wishes she could just gain 10 lbs and maintain that weight. I wish I had a high metabolism like she did so I could use my "energy stores" (aka fat rolls )

I don't think people who are "normal" weight understand that people who are underweight want to gain muscle (not just fat, because being too fat is unhealthy for anyone) and people who are overweight want to lose weight (but gaining muscle is totally okay too!). Some people are blessed enough to never have to work too hard to achieve the body type they desire.

Whenever someone gives me a comment that I don't like, I just smile and walk away. Occasionally, when I am feel like a real b**** I will tell them "thank you".

That's an example of a guy thinking he's giving you a compliment by implying you're skinny in a joking way. They can be very thick-headed :P

In the end, it is not my job to raise a grown man to reword his thoughts to reflect what he really intended to say.

In the end, I do take it as a compliment, not as the insult that I felt.

In the end, I know I'm a powerful woman, both physically and socially, regardless of my physical stature.

Thats all I need to know.

I just hope that ALL people, fat or fit, can tap into their inner strength and promote themselves to help others in any way they were blessed to help.
