Hi Alyssa!

I totally understand. I'm finding the social pressures of eating to be one of the biggest challenges. Your plan sounds excellent, exactly what I would have done. Please keep me posted on how it goes.

My hospital adventure turned out to be a pinched nerve in my neck. Unfortunately, it was presenting with all of the symptoms of a blood clot in my arm, so off to the emergency room I went. A gajillion tests later, I'm so glad it was not a blood clot. It's not completely resolved yet, but I feel a hundred times better. Thanks for asking!

So far I've lost a total of 18.8 pounds, which I am NOT complaining about at all. After my amazing weight loss of my first week, I'm a little puzzled as to why it slowed down so much though (1.5 lbs. last week, and 1.3 this week ). I was feeling down on myself about it, so I ate Thursday and Friday nights. Then I got down about that.

So... today's a new day, with a new action plan. Here goes:

1) Set my cell phone alarm to remember to massage my beads at the correct times.

2) Drink even more water (I had been drinking at least 8 glasses, but I need more).

3) I had been having a hardboiled egg because I get up so early in the morning, but I'm going to forgo that.

4) Same with the extra portions of milk and veggies (since I am 250+).

5) I'm gonna try to go easy on the Jell-O, since I heard that it could possibly slow down some people's weight loss (though I've only had two servings since I started, but you never know).

I am totally ready to get this diet back working for me!

Good luck with your plan until you're ready to go BOB, Alyssa. I'll keep you posted!

I'm glad your pinched nerve is feeling better, Rachael.

Congratulations on your nearly 19 pound loss!! I'm sorry your weight loss has slowed down recently, but your plan to kick things up a notch sounds really great. I bet it'll work! Oh yeah, and do make sure to rotate those beads on time, girlfriend. That's what keeps your body from going into 'fasting' or 'starvation' mode, which will cause your weight loss to slow way down or stop all together.

I'm doing well so far on eating light and healthy. TOM is due tomorrow so I'm not sure how quickly I'll drop water weight. I suspect I'll start feeling back to normal around Wednesday.

Let me know how your day went, Rachael.

Sooo...

I did end up having an egg this morning. I'm going to have to talk to my counsellor about whether this will be okay going forward. My concern is that my doc has me taking 4 Advil 3X a day to minimize swelling in my spinal disc (which they believe is causing the pinched nerve - it's not significant enough to show up on an x-ray, but they still think that's the culprit). Ironically, the doctor's recommendation for long-term treatment was to "lose weight." Anyway, the Advil is wreaking havoc on my stomach, especially since I can only eat at specific times during the day, and the egg does help a lot with that in the mornings, when the discomfort is worst. Supposedly, it's not supposed to affect the weight loss, but something is really affecting it. I'll see what her advice is on Thursday.

Other than that, I had a yummy sf mocha from Starbucks. Those are really nice.

We're prepping here to get hammered by Hurricane Sandy. I had to take in the Halloween decorations and deal with the backyard furniture. Wondering if we'll lose power. The power company said we could have outages for 7-10 days or more, so if I disappear at any time in the next few days, then you know why. A former county supervisor lives on our street, so maybe that will help bring us to the top of the priority list where outages are concerned. A girl can hope.

I bought some bags of chai tea from Starbucks (can you tell I'm addicted?) I'm going to steep one in milk this afternoon for a nice WARM dinner.

How has your day been going, Alyssa?

Red face back on beads

I'm starting back on beads today, this will be my second time and I'm hoping to lose 25-27 lbs. I lost about 17 when I did this diet the first time, but gave up before reaching my goal, and I've gained back most of the weight over the past year.

I was already thinking about trying the beads again and then a friend asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding, now I'm more motivated then ever to lose this weight!

I plan to post here daily just to keep myself accountable (I'm reusing beads and placements charts since I'm about the same weight as when I last started, trying to save some $) since I won't be checking with my counselor.

Today is a milk day, so far so good, avoided the kitchen area at work over lunch so I wouldn't be tempted, drinking lots of water ...

Good Luck to anyone else still doing it!

Default Day 2 So Far So Good

Made it through my second milk day with no cheating milk days are always the hardest for me so I think I'm off to a good start! Looking forward to the butternut squash and apple bake that's cooking now for tomorrow

I've been resisting the erg to weigh myself, I'm going to try and stay off the scale till day 9, just stay focused on following the diet exactly and not worry so much about the day to day change in numbers.

Anyone else still following the diet and posting/reading here?

Default Day 4

So I gave in and got on the scale this morning, down 5 lbs so far! That's all the motivation I need to keep going and not cheat.

Had some gauc with plantain chips for lunch today, delish

I'm hosting a holiday party this weekend, trying to plan lots of veggie dishes so I can stay on track and still enjoy the party

Anyone else reading/posting here on the diet too?

Hi Dot!

Congrats on your weight loss!

I'm still doing the diet. Had a rough couple of weeks in November, but since Thanksgiving has been great. So far I'm down 37 pounds! It's been a long time (like over a decade) since I lost so much weight. You're right, it's totally the motivation you need to keep going.

I find milk days rough too. I'm always desperate for something savory, or with some substance. My favorite things to get me through those days are Starbucks sugar-free mocha lattes (with whole milk), and two recipes from the AW website: custard (I usually do this with stawberry Jell-O instead of cherry) and tomato soup (for milk days). The last one is a great option if you crave savory foods on milk days and have access to Walden Farms products.

I really love veggie days. By the end of my 2nd milk day (like today), I'm SO ready for some veggies! I'm all set for tomorrow. I'm going to do a baked apple, some spaghetti squash primavera, and veggie chili (the "killer chili" from the website. It seemed weird to me to have chili without meat AND without beans, but it's actually pretty good! ).

Best of luck, and let me know how things go!

~Rachael
