Default Weekly Challenges for April 3-9

Disclaimer: I've never organized anything like this so, please, bear with me, and feel free to share any tips you have!

Welcome to the first South Beach weekly challenge thread!

Weekly challenges are a great way to stay accountable on your goals over shorter terms. You choose your goal for the week. It may or may not be sustainable over the long term. If a challenge/goal is not working after one week, re-evaluate and modify or move on. If you're thriving and you like it, feel free to reuse goals week to week as you integrate the healthy habits you develop with your routine!

Let us know your goal for this week and be sure to check in along the way and at the end to let us know how you're doing!

This weekend is a rough one eating-wise and a lazy one exercise-wise.

This week I'm going to workout every day for at least one hour. No leaving the gym after 20 minutes!

3: ✓ (45 minutes treadmill + 20 minutes arc trainer = 65min)
4: ✓ (15 minutes arc trainer + 60 minute BodyCombat class = 75min)
5: ✓ (45 minutes treadmill + 60 minute BodyFlow class = 105min)
6: ✓ (35 minutes arms s/t + 25 minutes calisthenics = 60min)
7: ✓ (35 minutes jog + 26 minutes walking = 61min)
8: ✗ (40 cumulative minutes of chest compressions = 40min)
9: ✓ (45 minutes jogging + 15 minutes walking = 60min)

Challenge complete!

Reflections: Achieved my goal 6/7 days! It wasn't that hard to do (except on the 8th) when I had the mindset that it just wasn't an option, and I planned for it. I can't and won't sustain exercising 7 days a week, but I've discovered 60 minutes isn't hard get (especially when I'm already at the gym). Pushing my endurance even became fun!

Since I'm already in the Spring Challenge for daily postings and eating three meals a day and I have an April goal of exercise so I think I'll work on my water intake here this week. I'm going to check with my doc, but think I was wrong about the max amount I can have. So for now am going to shoot for 64 oz of water daily. I haven't been anywhere near this so it's a far reach!

4/3 - Done but it wasn't easy! My gosh 64 ounces is a lot of water!
4/4 - Did it again and it didn't seem quite as hard
4/5 - Made it today too!
4/6 - Was out and about and didn't start drinking until mid afternoon when I got back home but I got them all in!
4/7 - Got er done as Larry the cable guy would say
4/8 - Darn, didn't get the last bottle of water in. First time I haven't made it this week.
4/9

Love the water & exercise idea! The two go together so naturally, but neither come so easily to a lot of us for some reason.

What are your strategies for getting enough water and/or keeping track? I'm thinking I'll focus on water next week as I'm planning to try going without diet soda!

I'd like to join the challenge ... I need to make sure I stick to this. Week after week I start off good and mess up horribly. Yesterday was the first day that I stayed totally on plan in a long time.

but for accountability purposes I'd say ...

~ get in 80ozs of water
~ I am a Curves member ... but need to make sure I go at least 3 times a week or do some form of exercise
~ leave the house if I feel the urge to cheat when no one is here (I know me)

03~ water done, Curves is closed today, but I got my treadmill so no excuses
04~ water done, Curves/Zumba ... a little time on the treadmill
05~ water , lots of walking
06~ water done, no exercise hung out with my DH a bit of walking though
07~
08~
09~

Ok, I'm in....really had to think about this. I just got my annual bloodwork back. While I lowered my total cholesterol by 10 pts (199), my HDL and LDL could still use work.
Everyday: 1 Tbsp olive oil, 1 Teas Chia seeds, 1 aspirin

4-3-done
4-4-done
4-5-done
4-6=done
4-7-done
4-8-done I've been doing great with my goal...but not so good with posting!
4-9-done

This was great for me! I will continue this as a new and healthy habit.

My goal for this week is 1 grain/1 fruit - no more, no less - every day starting tomorrow. My fruit and grain/starch consumption was a bit out of wack this week since I was out of town, so I want to get back on track.

April 3 - excused... travel day
April 4 - done
April 5 - done
April 6 - done
April 7 - done
April 8 - done
April 9 - done

Shelf, what I do to track water is I fill up 2 34 oz. glass jars (left over from juice) at work to drink during the work day, and one 34 oz. jar at home to drink in the evening. My evening water is flavored with a slice of fresh lemon and my work water is flavored with tea made with a ginger and peach tea bag. I need a little taste to my water. Once all three are empty I know I've drank all my water. I can't keep track of glasses here and there.

At first I thought I would find something to hold the entire 64 oz that I wanted to drink in a day but that looked like just too much water to me......so what I do now is work with one 16 oz bottle. I make sure I have two before lunch and the other two before dinner. So far it's working.
