I just wanted to stop by, per request, and let everyone know that Alli's doing okay for me thus far; time will "tell" more, though. I have decided to create a blog based on my overall progress--and my experiences with Alli.

(My blog can be reached by clicking on the link near my avatar--I'm a newbie and can't insert links in my posts yet.)

Have a great day!

Cleo,

Keep the faith. Stay to your plan as Alli prescribes. You will succeed.

I would agree with you saying "Pills don't work." However, Alli is not just a pill. Alli is an overall fitness plan which includes proper eating habits and exercise. Alli will give you a slight edge and sometimes the motivation to quicken weightloss when some may otherwise give up before they achieve their goals.

I was on Alli PLAN for a couple of months. It helped me. Funny, I never "pooped my pants" as you describe. Have you done that? Have you ever tried Alli or read about the plan? When not followed correctly there CAN be some disgusting side effects. Honestly though, it wouldn't compare to how disgusting I felt before.
I haven't tried Alli. I've read too much about it to care to try it. I already have IBS and don't need an added "problem" as far as that goes. I also don't want disgusting side effects as a punishment when I'm not perfect on a plan. Like I said... I gotta be able to do something that I'm willing to do forever. WW teaches proper eating habits and exercise so all Alli does is adds a pill. I've had a pretty horrific experience with "diet pills" and just think they are an overall bad idea.

Like I said... just my opinion on it.

Hi,
I was also thinking of trying Alli while doing weight watchers... but I heard this on the news: there have been reports of liver failure in patients using Alli.

I can't post links yet, but google it, I heard the headline on npr, a reliable news source.

NPR had links to other sources.

Here is the main story on The News Tribune, from 5/26/2010.

Part of the story:

Federal health officials are warning consumers that the weight loss pills alli and Xenical may cause severe liver damage in rare cases.

The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it has added a warning about the risk to the label of the drug alli, which is sold over-the-counter by GlaxoSmithKline. The prescription version Xenical is manufactured and marketed by Roche.

The FDA identified 13 instances of liver damage associated with the drugs. A causal effect between the drugs and the problem has not been established.

That's my official reaction.

ETA:
There is also a thread here at 3FC in "Does It Work?" about the investigation. The initial post is from 8/28/2009, so this has been ongoing for a while

Alli will just make your life more complicated than it already is, why don't you just stick to WW i have and with good results to show of it, alli will make your life harder especially your social life.

I tried Alli when it first came out thinking it was going to be some miracle drug that would instantly make the pounds melt off. I wasted my money and not because the pills don't work but because I had an eating disorder which I had not dealt with. I have been binge eating for many years and thought Alli would magically make it go away. When the Alli didn't work, I moved on to something worse that can only be prescribed by a doctor - Phentermine. I now suffer from anxiety because of that particular medication.

Alli didn't work for me because I refused to change my ways BUT if it will help you make better choices and get you moving in the right direction, try it! Weight Watchers DOES work without having to take any medication, you just have to commit yourself 100%. I have been on this journey for 2 years and everyday is a struggle. Tracking and adding activity are the 2 most important things when it comes to success!
