So I took the greek yogurt challenge and LOVE IT! I get the zero fat kind from trader joes, and it has a whopping 22g of protein! awesome stuff.

I still need to get some of this. I wish we had a Trader Joes here, I have been to TJ in OR and I really liked it. We do have a local co-op here but it is always so crowded and expensive. I am sure they have greek yogurt though.

Mmmmm I found some! It was not with the regular yogurt but in the organic foods fridge.

It is quite delicious!

Hey! maybe that is where I need to look for it...I have had no luck finding it on my own. My partner got it for me somewhere other than our regular grocer.

I just finished a 6oz container and it was very filling. I think I'm hooked.

I've been experimenting with greek yogurt and have come up with a couple things I love!!

1. I love the individual flavored yogurts. Particularly the honey flavored. They really fill me up and start the day well.

2. I mix thyme with plain greek yogurt and use it as a spread. I put the yogurt spread, hummus, lettuce, and turkey in a wheat pita - it's great.

3. I take that same spread and add a little salt to it and mix it with spinach greens, mushrooms, red pepper flakes and chicken well coated with cayenne pepper, and some garlic almond slivers.

Very creative, Rodeogirl! Sounds like it would make a great dip, too!

I finally found some greek yogurt at the market. It is the 2% plain (130 calories for the container). I will probably thaw some frozen strawberries to have with it....

So is greek yogurt just yogurt without the liquidy stuff? If so, why does it have more protein?

If you make greek yogurt, can you make it from vanilla yogurt? Most recipes say plain but I don't like plain yogurt and I can't find greek yogurt at Kroger. I don't want to go to walmart to buy it.

Just wanted to mention something about the plain yogurt. I like the plain taste but I know lots of folks don't. I diabetic friend of mine sprinkles in a little bit of sugar free gelatin powder to give it flavor. I thought it was an interesting idea.

In Greece, they strain their yogurt which makes it thicker. You can strain it yourself and you could use vanilla or any flavor but the taste of greek yogurt you'd buy in the store is plain flavored.

After reading this thread, I went into the kitchen last night and made a small batch of some plain yogurt with vanilla just to see if I would like it. OMG, it is so good. And, so easy, I used papertowels this time but I am going to get some cheese cloth when I go to the store. Thank you all for the info.

If you are looking for Greek Yogurt be sure to check your store's natural/organic food section. None of the stores where I live carry it with the regular yogurt.

Also Agave nectar and Greek Yogurt, I just found out, is very yummy.
