So ..I'm just really concerned right now. I'm going off birth control this month and my husband and I are going to try to make a baby! yay..great news....BUT I'm soo terrified of gaining like 60 lbs when I get pregnant. My goal this year was to lose weight so I could be thinner when I got pregnant but I haven't really been successful. I haven't lost any weight this year. I actually gained about between 7lbs. I just needed to put this out there..cuz this is depressing me.
has anyone else tried to lose weight anticipating having a baby?
This is one of MANY reason i've started this process back up.... My husband and I are thinking about starting in the next year/6 months. I want to lose as much weight for health and for comfort as possible! So yes! I get it. It seems like a normal concern to me. And, yes! I am trying to lose weight in part for pregnancy. Happy TTC!
Ditto! I'm trying to lose weight mostly for a future healthy pregnancy. Even though we plan on TTC anywhere from 2-4 years from now, I know it'd be best if I started now (especially since it may just take me that long).
If you do end up pregnant (which I hope you do!), I wouldn't focus on gaining weight. Just focus on eating healthy for you baby.
Also, what keeps me positive is that if I do lose weight before TTC and then gain some after.. I can be one of those moms walking baby in a fancy jogging stroller.
This is also a reason that I losing weight! My boyfriend and I have been dating for 4 years and I hope to get married and start a family in the next 5-7 years. I want to get to my goal weight by next year so that I can enjoy my engagement, wedding and a healthy body before getting pregnant! Not to mention that being overweight makes it harder to get pregnant!
has anyone else tried to lose weight anticipating having a baby?
Me. I was pregnant last year but miscarried which totally sucked. I vowed that I would not get pregnant again while being so overweight. I have unfortunately only lost 15lbs since then but I'm trying again. I need to lose at least another 15lbs before getting pregnant again. I don't take BC though, I just do NFP which I have botched in the past (the first time I got pregnant). Added a little more protection this time so hopefully I reach that goal first.
This is the reason I want to lose weight too!! I want to be back to my pre baby weight so I can be healthy and have another successful pregnancy. I feel like it's never going to happen tho
has anyone else tried to lose weight anticipating having a baby?
Yes. DH and I are planning to start TTC by the end of this year and I want to try and get as much excess weight off of me by then as possible. Partly because I miscarried a few months ago and partly because I want to be healthy and fit for the baby.
That's my plan too. When I was pregnant with my 1st I had high blood pressure and gestational diabetes. It sucked. Lol. So the goal for the next pregnancy is hopefully NO GESTATIONAL DIABETES.
My husband and I are not TTC in the near future, but I just wanted to go off what alleybat said. I found out I have a genetic predisposition for Type II diabetes, and part of that is that if I ever get gestational diabetes it's unlikely to resolve itself when the pregnancy ends. So my future goals is also NO GESTATIONAL DIABETES. And yes, part of why I'm losing weight now is to be in the best possible physical condition before TTC - it's just that for us that isn't imminent.
I was worried about being overweight for my 2nd pregnancy. I was off BC but not actively trying. I lost about 15lbs before I got pregnant, BUT I was also at the weight I was when I had my 1st child. However, because I was already overweight, my body had enough fat storage to compensate for the stuff you gain for breast feeding. I gained approx. 18lbs. with the 2nd child and I've already lost that plus 15 more lbs! With that said, I gained about 35lbs. with the first. So, I was very happy with the 18 and so was my dr. I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes, it helps to be at a lower weight to get pregnant, but don't let your weight hold you up from trying. Always talk to your Dr. and see what he/she has to say too.
I guess I should put my weights in there. I was 200lbs. when I got preggo with the first...gained 35lbs which put me at 235. I was about 235 when I got preggo with the 2nd and gained about 18lbs which put me up to 253lbs. I immediately lost back down to my 235 within a few weeks. Then the last couple of months I've lost another 15 lbs. I did not have any trouble with swelling or gestational diabetes. However, I wasn't one to eat a bunch of sweets and junk food either. I tried to eat healthy and even skipped meat at some meals because it just turned me off. I also walked just about everyday and drank lots of water.
I don't feel so alone anymore! My husband and I are trying to both get healthier before we start trying for a baby in about a year or so. We should start a getting healthy to have a baby support group
I want to start trying at the end of next year.. but I'd like to lose as much weight now and be super active so I can 1) enjoy my body for a summer and buy cute clothes lol 2) if I'm already active I will stay active during pregnancy and have a healthy baby and a healthy mommy
I'm doing the same! My hubby and I are going to start trying in the Spring, and I want to be at a healthy weight before then. I also want to get into good eating and exercise habits now so I can continue into pregnancy. Good luck TTC for everyone!
