Hi all!!

here's a question for everyone on this diet. Is this something you can do for the rest of your life or is it a typical diet, that once you lose the weight, you'll get off of it and start eating regular foods. I'm looking into buying the book but don't really want to if it's just another fad diet.

thanks

Hi. I suppose you could consider it a bit of a fad diet, in that it restricts your choices, especially in the first phase. I was attracted to it as a way to jump start myself, and get my eating habits back on track. I find that with plans like WW I tend to give myself a bit too much freedom, and eat more "junk" calories then I should. I really needed to follow a plan where there was no room for junk food.

It also stresses the importance of exercise, and after the first 9 days it is pretty balanced. The only real "no go" foods are white bread and processed junk. Do I think I can eat like this forever? Not in a very strict manner. There are going to be times when eating dessert or having a glass of wine will happen. The point of the plan is to reprogram your way of eating, to allow for the odd treat now and again, and not gain weight. Kind of like when you go on maintenance for any diet, you cannot go back to all your old habits and expect to keep the weight off.(I am living proof of that!)

I would suggest that you get the book, it lays things out in a very easy to follow manner. You can then decide for yourself if it is a fad diet or not. Anything with a title like "Fat Smash" sounds a bit faddish to me, but I still think it is a pretty good way of eating. I am still doing Phase 1 most days, then occasionally switching to Phase 2, I am doing fine eating the foods in Phase 1 and until I feel comfortable that I can stay away from junk I will stay there. That said, I have strayed a few times, but not gained anything back, and I am still focusing mostly on fruits and veggies, and making better choices overall.

The book is very short and gets right to the point. It is a very easy to follow plan, most of it just common sense really.(nobody ever gets fat eating fruits, veggies, low fat yogourt, oatmeal and lean meats) Have a look at it, maybe you'll see something in it that appeals to you.

I'm new here also. I'm a 20 year old college student, and I just ordered the fat smash book. I want to lose a nice amount of weight. When I get the book and start the plan I will let everyone know how it goes. Wish me Luck!
