This may sound like a stupid question (and it probably is), but since I don't live in the states and don't watch Oprah, I was wondering how this diet "came to be"?
Was it advertised during a show? Was it a special? Did she have a ghostwriter (I would guess so)?
When I googled for it, I did find a book with the same name on Amazon, but I could not find any connection to Oprah...
The book and diet were created by two doctors and they have appeared on Oprah and other shows explaining there diet.
Ahh, thank you for your reply!
And Oprah endorsed this? Hmm, I wonder how much she got for this. Otoh, she is pretty rich already so she probably doesn't not need the money that they would offer.
Anyways, I think it's good that this is being addressed in shows like this, especially as more and more people in the industrialized countries are overweight.
You can be sure these two doctors are getting plenty of money because they have appeared on Oprah. She has a lot of influence , appearing on her show almost guarentees huge sales for your book.

Yes, I know. That's why I was wondering who they payed off to get on that show.
Since they both are doctors, I seriously doubt they did this for the money. Dr. Oz has a special on the Discovery Health Channel in which he talks about food and the affects on people's lives. I love the choices I am making now but I am not naive enough to believe it is for everyone.
Do you have issues with the content of the book, Markstar?
Oh no, not at all. I was merely wondering about how the name Oprah was associated with this diet.
@Iwanawurkit: I wish you were right. Maybe I am too cynical by now but if somebody who has written a book and appears on a talk show, there is always money behind it. Maybe not even the person who wrote the book, but the publisher, the agent, the network, ...
Anyways, all that matters it that it helps people!
Dr Oz is also a weekly guest on Oprah (or every other week). Discusses everything about the Human Body not just diet stuff. I think that's why his diet is under the "Oprah Inspired Diets" on this board.
Mehmet Oz is an internationally renowned cardiothoracic surgeon who's made the jump into celebrity. here's a link to his academic profile at Columbia University
Hmmmm....
I think even if you enjoy people and enjoy what you do, you can be highly motivated by the almighty dollar. Nothing really wrong with this, unless it becomes an extreme situation.
I have noticed certain minor similarities between this program and WEight Watchers. For example, the emphasis on Fiber and there is a homemade soup used when one gets over hungry. Both encourage exercise; particularly walking. In addition, WW has two programs, one of which avoids breads and sugars and encourages lean meats and lots of vegetables. With Weight Watchers you get weekly support and ongoing motivation.
Both programs seem very good to me. I guess any good weight loss program will have some similarities.
The important thing is that a person finds something healthy, do-able and above all else...actually does the program.
