Sorry I've not been around. I got caught up in watching the Olympics and just wasn't on the computer. I'll have to go back to last week's posts to catch up.
My scale isn't working - I suspect it needs a new battery. At any rate, I've stayed off of it for the last couple of weeks. Tomorrow I have an appointment with the gastroenterologist, so I suspect I'll be weighed there. My eating has been in and out. My eating has been spotty. I haven't been feeling all that well and haven't done much cooking, so we've been relying on pre-made meals or take-out too much. The good news is I've been having cravings for fruits and veggies lately, so I've been eating a bit better as of late.
gained a few pounds in the past few weeks...just haven't been very dilligent about staying on program.
I got down to 161...now up to 164...even with all my running, my food choices just weren't very good.
But, that's ok - i'll pick myself up and keep on going strong. I'm determined to not let myself get back to where I was so I know I will be able to stay strong and OP for the next few weeks.
Getting there is definitely hard...staying there is hard too
ON the plus side...I ran my half marathon on Saturday in cold rainy weather in 1 hr 59 min - woohoo!! My goal was under 2 hrs and I'm definitely glad it is over with
Saturday was kind of a free day for me (eating-wise) but I still think I came under my points for the week.
Yesterday I felt like eating and DH was going to make me lunch (since my legs were still so sore and he was trying to be nice to me) so I told him I wanted a huge tortilla with two slices of good cheese and black beans...and then i wanted to make cupcakes. He was like, 'um i know you have flex points from your run yesterday but i don't want to see you make poor decisions'...at first that comment really ticked me off but i saw the error in what i was about to do and settled for a LF cheese stick on my 1-point tortillas with the black beans and a fruit cup...
I've heard so many people say they've been off these past two weeks -- wonder if there's something going around? A spoil-your-diet bug?? I have a dietician appointment next week, haven't seen her in 2 months... I've only lost 10 lbs since the last time she saw me, I hope she'll be happy with that. Last time she saw me, I had gained, so I guess any loss will be better than a gain!!
Carla, so nice to see you back - I was getting worried about you! I was an Olympic couch potato for the last two weeks. It's going to be so exciting having the 2010 Olympics here!
Jaime, I think you're right - lots of us seem to be struggling a bit at the moment. I think it's a combination of the New Year's enthusiasm wearing off, and the end of winter blahs setting in. We just have to plug away and keep at it.
Emily, CONGRATULATIONS on doing your half marathon! That's a huge accomplishment! Good for DH for helping you make good food choices - that's very cool of him. Thanks for the will power dust - I'm sure we can all use it!!!
Judy - hope you had a good weekend!
Besides being in Olympic withdrawal, things are pretty good here. I had a good weekend on the food front, except for having creme brulee for dessert on Saturday night. My brother and s-i-l came up for a visit (our first long-distance company since our move) and we went out for dinner. It's my all time favourite, and I haven't had it in forever, so I don't feel bad. I decided to join Curves until we get our workout room built and set up, and went for a workout this morning. You really have to push to get much of a workout from the resistance machines. I'm making a big pan of roasted veggies and chicken breasts for dinner, better go and start peeling and chopping.
Jaime ~ There's definitely something going on - I've been out of sorts with eating too. I'm managing to stay within points most days but my choices have been pretty poor. My craving have kicked in again so it's a battle most days not to binge the way I normally do.
Emily ~ Congrats on doing the half-marathon, AND in under 2 hrs too. You're a machine. WTG to DH on keeping you in check - although I must admit I would have been peeved too
Carla ~ Good luck with your Gastroenterology appointment tomorrow. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Karen ~ I've never tried Creme Brulee, although I've heard people say how nice it is. Glad you had a nice dinner with your brother and SIL - I always find it hard to make good choices when out.
Weigh-in tomorrow. I've stayed within points this week but my choices haven't been great on the whole. I've kept up with a lot of exercise though so hopefully that should balance things out a bit.
I thought I was all alone in the weight gain thingy....not that I'm glad others have been up but at least I don't feel alone anymore.
We lost a good friend at dialysis one day two weeks ago and so I have had alot of stress eating and BAD choices but am back on track this week. I was up 4 pounds but have lost 2 so I am happy with that.
:bravo: Emily congrats on the race, I wish I could do that.
I will be glad when this cold winter is over so I can get out and walk or bike I know that will help me alot.
Keep looking to your goals one and all!!
Welcome to the newcomers! To those of you who lost last week, congratulations! To those of you who have been struggling a bit – I understand. I started the week OK last week but by the end I was struggling too.
Carla – I hope the appt with the gastroenterologist goes well. Sorry about the eating being spotty but it’s so hard regularly and even harder when you don’t feel well. Glad to hear that you have been craving fruits and veggies – that should help a lot.
Emily – sorry about the gains but we all backslide a bit. The important thing is to do what you’re doing – pick yourself up and keep going – doing what you know works. Major congratulations on running a half marathon! That is quite an accomplishment. I agree with Karen – very cool of your DH to help you make good choices!
Britomart – It sounds like you are doing quite well – congratulations on what you’ve lost and good luck to you too!
Karen – what would like be like without a favorite dessert once in a while! Sounds like a yummy dinner. I have not been doing lower body weight work because of my hip but that’s no excuse for not having done any upper body work in week. Your going to Curves is giving my a little push to pick up some weights tonight.
Tanya – Good luck on your weigh in. It sounds like even though your choices haven’t been the best you should do OK. Maybe try to pick one of the “healthy habits” to work on this week, like getting in the fruits and veggies or the milk.
Kristiekat – I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. That is so sad and it’s easy to make bad choices under those circumstances. Good for you for picking yourself up and losing 2 of the 4!
I have to go now – I will update you on my week a little later.
Down 400g (.88 lbs). A little disappointed, especially with all the exercise I've been doing, but as you all say, a loss is a loss and maybe I worked on some muscle this past week.
Tanya - WTG on the loss! Isn't it funny that a gain of less than a pound is a big deal but we don't make a fuss when we lose less than a pound?
I ended up gaining 0.4 last week - I was disappointed because I did VERY well in AC (of course, not being able to taste the second dinner we had there because of my cold helped) but I wasn't too surprised because I sort of blew it a bit at the end of the week. I did get to my meeting on Saturday and something there clicked. We did a little "reframing" exercise to hlep stop a negative or unwanted behavior. Mine was, of course, evening snacking which is my problem area. Between that and finding out that my Leader, who follows the Core program, still writes down what she eats (but still only counting points for non-core foods), I'm doing pretty good so far this week. Writing down what I'm eating really DOES help, even if I'm following Core, AND I *finally* picked up my knitting this week and it has really helped.
I did a 20 minute yoga workout today after work (my back really needed the stretch) and even though I'm a bit behind on where I should be for my workouts (20 a month at least to get to my goal of 240 for the year), I'm going to keep trying to slowly up my workouts to near where they used to be withoug aggravating my hip.
I still haven't made it over to last week's posts, but figured I'd better jump in.
Judy - Sorry to hear about the gain. But it was a blip and will be gone this week. I hope you're cold has gone away. We've all had one in our house - it's definitely going around. So is some sort of stomach virus, which I really hope stays away from us. You are so right how differently we think of a fraction of a pound when it's a loss versus a gain. I think writing down food makes us very aware of what we're putting in our mouths and keeps us honest, so I think it's a great idea.
Emily - Sorry to hear about your gain. I'm the queen of the backslide, so I know how it goes. But, yay for you for doing your half-marathon and meeting your goal of completing it under 2 hours! And how great that your husband helped you along with making a good decision about lunch (and how great that you ended up making that good decision).
Jaime - Hello and welcome! I'm sure your dietician will be pleased with a 10 pound loss.
Karen - Great to see you! Are you all settled in and enjoying your new house? I'm sure you've posted all that already, so I'll have to go back to read. I thought of you every time they mentioned the 2010 Olympics. Do you think you'll try to go to some events? Your chicken and veggie dinner sounds great. Gives me an idea for a dinner this week.
Tanya - Congrats on your loss. I know the small losses are a bit disappointing, but any downward movement is great. And it goes to show that even though you struggled, you did ok.
kristiekat - I'm sorry to hear about your friend. At times like that, it's really hard to care about what you're eating. And, since I'm an emotional eater, it's usually a trigger for me to stuff my face. Congrats on getting half of that gain gone again.
Well, the gastro guy has determined that I must part ways with my gallbladder. He actually said that it's usually lucky when you have a gallstone to have a huge one like mine because they don't "wander" and are less likely to cause attacks. But since my gallbladder has already turned on me once, it will do it again. Even though the next attack might not happen in a long while, subsequent attacks tend to be more severe and the next one could lead to emergency surgery. So I guess I'll have it yanked now. I have to make an appointment with the surgeon he recommended, although he wants my regular doctor to concur with his choice. Other than that, I'm peachy keen, gastro-intestinally speaking. He doesn't think the discomfort I've been feeling when on my feet (a kind of pulling, aching sensation in my lower right abdomen) is caused by any gastro problems and thinks it may be due to - sing it with me sisters - being overweight. One more reason (as though I needed one) to get with the program and stick with it. I took my first step by getting out of bed early this morning and staying out of bed. (I usually end up resetting my alarm.) Perhaps tomorrow I'll stay up and actually exercise.
Carla, I'm glad you made out well with the gastroenterologist. I'm sure you'll be much better off without your gallbladder. I parted ways with mine 8 years ago. You'll need to watch fatty foods after your surgery, believe me...they'll have you racing for the bathroom! Yup, I'm settling in nicely. The dogs love having freedom to romp, and I'm loving rural life. We have to wait for the snow to go before we can do much; first on the agenda are a workshop for Mike, and a barn for me, and a deck, and a mudroom...and the list goes on and on! Good for you for getting up with the alarm clock this morning. I'm waking a little earlier each week; mostly because I haven't bought blinds for our bedroom yet - I'd better take care of that very soon, or I'll be waking way too early. Mike doesn't get home till about 11 pm so I need to sleep till 7 a.m. at least (or add a nap in the afternoon). I'm not sure if we'll be taking in any of the Olympic events in 2010, but I'd love to.
Judy, sorry about the gain, but it sounds like your "reframing" was helpful. I'm in the same boat as you, up .4, but for no apparent reason. My weight can vary 4-5 lbs in a three day period. It's frustrating, but not a big deal, as long as the general trend is downward. I've been developing some bad evening snacking waiting up for Mike, I need to nip that in the bud. I've got a knitting project on the go, but have put it aside because I was continually screwing it up last week and having to rip out two to three rows to undo the damage. When I quit being mad at it, I'll pick it up again.
Tanya - any loss is a good one, and I'm sure with the ton of exercise you've been doing, it's replacing fat with muscle, which as you know weighs more, but takes up mcuh less room! The new muscle will soon be burning more fat for you, and you'll be seeing some great losses.
Kristie - I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. That must be very difficult for you, and stress eating doesn't make you feel better in the long run, does it? Here's to making good choices this week, and good on you for taking care of half your gain already.
Nothing monumental to report. As I said, I'm up .4 lbs, but have been eating well and moving my derriere consistently, so I think I'm due for a good loss very soon. I did my Curves session this morning - there are some nice women there, and the manager lives a mile down the road from me. I'm going to make a cup of tea, and then strap on the snowshoes for a little trek with the pups.
Karen - Yep, I've heard that about fatty foods. Is that a permanent thing or does it eventually go away? (Thinking about never having another onion ring again makes me sad, but I can deal.) What about spicy foods? I'm staying away from them right now, because I had my attack after I had some very spicy, but very tasty, guacamole and also some salsa. I'd be really, really sad to give up really, really spicy foods. But again, I'd deal. I'm glad to hear that you're loving your new place. I love the thought of snow shoes. I bet you're going to have an awesome butt and some great thighs after a winter on snow shoes. What about cross country skiing? Do you do any of that. I'm thinking that next winter when I've lost weight and am in better shape, I might take that up.
Carla - I've found it kind of unpredictable...sometimes it happens, sometimes not. Initially it was always. Never had a problem with spicy foods...I'm wondering if it wasn't the fat from the avocado in the guacamole that set you off. I'm sure under all the fat I have a great butt & thighs! I cross country skiied a bit when I was much younger and much thinner - I've been thinking about taking it up again next winter - it's just about the most complete exercise around.
hi everyone, this last week was not as bad as i thought went to my dad funeral and mended some fences felt good. well i am down one pound which i will take, even if i only lose a 1 lb a week at least i know it will stay off. hope every one will have good week.
