Hi all.

Judy - I think you got our snowstorm after we were done with it last week, no?

We have snow and we have cold. It's all fine, but I think it's going to be a long winter. It's usually not as cold here as it's been the last week or so until sometime in January. I gained .04 last week, but since I started my period the same day I weighed, in, I'm not sweating it. I'm getting back on the stationary bike today. I've got to get the exercise in gear. I do NOT want to have to go on diabetes meds in March. And I DO want to get this sleep apnea under control. So, I have to do what I have to do, like it or not. I think I'm going to try Bob Greene's total body makeover again - at least the exercise portion of it. And now, off to find my workout clothes...

Have a good one.

Carla

Carla - Yes, we did your storm but while it snowed about 3-4 inches in the city and a lot more in Westchester and Jersey (north and west), here on Long Island we had one inch and then the whole thing turned to rain. Sorry about the 0.4 gain but you know that's water. Good for you for getting back on the bike. I can hear the determination in your voice - you go girl!!

Karen - it was great to hear from you! I can't believe you are moving up to the property so soon! I hope that when the job from he** is behind you, we'll hear from you more often - I miss you!

Well, I had a 0.8 gain which puts me at having gained back all but 4 pounds and change but I'm OK with it as that's having not been to a meeting in a few weeks and it takes Las Vegas into account. Not bad for being away. Las Vegas was great - we had a good time (no jackpots but we each came back with a lot of our budget) but we didn't like the place we stayed - too dark and smokey. In any case, I ate moderately and I guess it pretty much paid off. I went to my meeting on Saturday and got inspired again. We had dinner out on Saturday and I did really well with fish served with polenta (core) and I just had to count a few points for the sauce and wine. I've been trying to get all my veggies and milk in and did well last night. The sneak peek this morning was good and I'm determined to keep it that way!

The GREAT news is that when we got back, there was a message on the phone machine offering me a job as a permanent sub in the building!! I accepted last Tuesday and have been working every day since. It's really amazing - I was hoping to get a position when one opened up (because of a maternity leave) in Feb but one of the permanent subs resigned (got another job) and they offered it to me! The money isn't great but I work everyday that there is school and it's the "next step"!

The only thing I'm bummed about is that since about a week or so before Vegas, my hip/hip flexor/something has been bothering me. If I sit for any period of time, it hurts quite a bit when I get up. Once I move around it's OK but it means I can't go back to doing the kind of exercising I like (step, FIRM, etc) for a while. I finally went back to the chiropractor. Whatever she did helped a bit - we don't think it's a joint problem; she thinks it may be either a muscle spasm or a bursitis. In any case, I'm doing yoga and stretching and I'm giong to do upper body strength. I'll give it a while to see if that helps; if not, I'll go to the orthopedist in January.

Have a great one!

Hi all...

Judy, glad you had a good trip to Las Vegas - too bad the accommodations weren't better. You'll know for next time not to stay there. Congratulations on your job! That's great! I'm looking forward to being gainfully unemployed for a few months starting January 13. I think a .8 gain is pretty insignificant given you were in Vegas. A victory, almost. Well, not quite. At any rate, it could have been a lot worse! Yes, I'm quite amazed at how our forthcoming move all came together well ahead of schedule. I question the sanity of relocating in the dead of winter (LOTS of snow up there...), but I'm looking forward to living a simple country life far from the rat race. I've been a rat too long.

Carla, we *can't* have you starting diabetes meds - it's up to us to get you moving and into the losing groove so you won't need them. I'm having a tough time getting here often and won't be here often for the next few weeks, but by God, you and I will be here daily come January and we are going to lose a TON in 2006. What's going on with the sleep apnea? I knew you were being tested, but regretfully haven't read follow up posts.

As for moi, things are moving along well. Mike moves into our new place on Saturday - he's been staying with his cousin who lives nearby, and I'm going up to spend the weekend. I have managed to get FIL into care, and just got him settled in at the home this morning. That's a very big relief to us. On the food front, I'm fully engulfed in work related holiday food functions until Monday. I'm trying hard not to be too excessive.
