Angie – congratulations on the loss – you’re doing great!
Rachel – welcome! Congratulations on your decision to live a healthier life! I know what you mean about husbands – mine can sabotage me with things he brings into the house. I can’t always stop him, though so I figure I have to figure out a way to deal with it.
I had a good weigh in – down another pound. It’s really true that if you work the system, it works. I had a snacky night last night – not sure exactly why. I did OK when we went out to dinner with friends. In any case, I counted everything I ate and am determined not to go over my weekly point allowance. I did two workouts over the weekend, aerobics and weights and tried to make modifications for my knee. It felt good to sweat again but I think I’ll be doing yoga for the next day or two since the knee felt a little twingy last night. I probably did too much.
thebooklass - You're making great progress! You're right, sometimes repeating is the best thing.
Angie - Congrats on another terrific loss!
Rachel - Welcome and congrats on starting a healthier lifestyle. Crazy schedules can make healthy eating a challenge, but I'm sure you'll find a way to work around it.
Judy - Congrats on your loss! My knee is in empathy with your knee - it kept going out on my yesterday.
I had a pretty good weekend. I was too busy to actually eat much. Yesterday was Ana's ballet recital and we had dinner afterwards for our family and friends that came to it. John did some elaborate cooking - a rice in coconut milk dish that he served over saffron rice and chicken with a kind of mole sauce (minus the chocolate). My big contributions were shredded pork (I cooked a pork roast in the crock pot with bbq sauce - it was delicious), baked beans, and a cucumber salad. Fortunately, we have lots of leftovers. Ana's last day of school was Friday. We have a lovely, unscheduled week ahead before swim team and day camp start. And the great mommy/daughter tutoring escapade starts today. Wednesday is our 20th anniversary, so we may pack up the kid and take a mini trip - one night, one day.
Its that time of the month..blech..I'm up one lb..which isnt too bad..im sure it will be down by wed when that time is over with so im not stressing about it!
I caved last night and went to sonic, I don't what it is about hamburgers but they just call my name! But I'm not going to let it bring me down. I felt really bad about wanting it but I had been craving it for two days and this morning I feel a lot more in control.
I have been playing golf too help me get some exercise, I just can't seem to do the normal workout stuff, it seems so boring. But the golfing is good, you walk, a lot which is good. I'm really going to try to start walking when I can't go play golf.
I guess it's a start!! I didn't gain all this weight overnight so I guess I can't expect to lose it that way either!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
Have you tried the No Pudge Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Bars?
Very tasty for 2 points! And big!
Talk to you all soon!
Carla - Wow, what a busy weekend and week! Mmmm, that pork dish sounds yummy. I've never had a crock pot - do you keep it on when you are out of the house? We don't end school until June 24! When do you start again in the fall? Hmmm, the great mommy/daughter tutoring escapade, huh? What are you planning on doing (if you don't mind me asking). Happy Anniversary in advance. I mini trip sounds like a great idea after all the things that you've been struggling with for the last few months/weeks!
Angie - Don't beat yourself up about the sonic - it's eaten and done with. I find that if I fall off the wagon, the best thing for me to do is count it (take the hit on points) and then go on - even if it eats up all of your weekly points. For me I think it has me take responsibility for having eaten it and then I can let it go instead of beating myself up about it. Great idea about golf - if you do what you really like for activity, you keep wanting to do it!
Rachel - congratulations on that great loss! I like your attitide about the time it takes. One thing my leader does that I like, is that for every pound we lose we get a paper clip. You clip them together to make a "chain of success". It's a great way to see how one pound and one pound and one pound really add up. I'm a chocolate girl myself and I just love the WW ice cream cones - chocolate ice cream and chocolate lining the cone - 2 points and yummy!
chocolatecatz - don't fret about the one pound - TOM always wreaks havoc with the scale for me. That pound will be gone along with TOM.
I had a pretty good day yesterday. I had a few snacks at night but nothing ridiculous. Today was a very exciting day for me. It seems that the teacher I'm with is going to be out again (!!!!!) because there is Fifth's Disease in the building again. Well, today there was a district wide conference and there were a ton of people out so they asked me if I would take the class today - yup, my very first time as the person up at the front of the classroom. I think it went really well and I think the kids liked it too - a few of them asked if I could be the sub tomorrow too! Of course, that probably won't happen again - it's not illegal - the state lets you sub for 30 days before you are certified (and the only thing I don't have for certification is the student teaching) but there are generally enough subs so that they wouldn't. Anyway, it was great - even though I'm tired and had to come home and do a whole lot of work for the grad school class tomorrow night. No exercise for me today - I got up early to get in and prepare for the class. I have my last tutoring session before school tomorrow and class tomorrow evening so I'll have to wait until Thursday to get something in.
Chocolatecatz - I'm guessing that pound was probably water retention and is gone today. I never get wigged out over gains when I have my period. I can almost count on them.
Angie - I've felt the call of the hamburger many times myself. Sometimes you just have to give into a craving, if it's a lasting one. Otherwise you just "eat around" it to compensate and I find that, many times, I end up eating more than if I had just given in. As Judy says, just count the points, take the hit, and get back on the wagon. Golfing sounds like a great way to get in some exercise doing something you love.
Rachel - Pretty soon a lot of small losses add up to a great total. I have had some of the No Pudge ice cream products and they're good.
Judy - Yay for you for teaching your first class! I bet you were a hit! Wow, you're school goes late! Both the Montessori school and the public school ended the same day. Public would have gone a week later if they had used any snow days. Ana starts back on August 23rd this year. As for the tutoring, let's see. I have the rest of her worksheets from the resource teacher. One is Great Leaps, I believe, and the other is Handwriting without Tears. He also sent home a set of Primary Phonics books (they're stories for her to read). Then I bought, at Barnes and Noble Flash Skill's Time and Money workbook for Grade 1 as well as American Education Publishing's Summer Link Math and Summer Link Reading for Grade 1. I also bought in the teacher's section Evan-Moor's Basic Phonics Skills, which is a series of worksheets. And of course, lots and lots of reading, especially poetry since she is having a really hard time with rhyming sounds. And there's the Starfall website and the correlating books that the 1st grade teacher sent home with us. So we'll keep busy. As for the crockpot - I've had one for forever. I used to be really hesitant to leave it on while I was out of the house, even though that's what they're for. But I love it, especially for slow cooking spaghetti sauce. And the shredded pork is going into permanent rotation.
I am so very pleased to announce, for the first time in a long time, a loss of some substance: 1.4 pounds. I guess cleaning the house like a madwoman and not eating garbage paid off. No mini-trip for us this week. The $1,000 worth of plumbing work that just got done this morning has taken care of that (kitchen sink, including new faucet and the bathtub). Today's our anniversary. I'm not sure what we're doing. I doubt we're going out to dinner, thanks again to our plumbing. If we don't have the thunderstorms and rain they're predicting, then perhaps we'll go to the pool.
I did take the hit on my points for the hamburger, ouch! but I've been very good since about staying on target. I was doing that munching on everything trying to satisfy the craving, but once I gave in and got what I really wanted the craving went away and I could get back on track.
Hi all, new to the home board. I have been posting over on the WW General Board. Thought I would post here too since I've given up on the $10.95 a pop for meetings. I have been loving WW and plan to stay on indefinitely, it's such a great program! I tried a loose variation of the Wendie program this week and lost 5 pounds! I also reached my 10% goal this week! I am almost half way to my goal and I'm thinking I may even set my goal lower. I just remember that when I was that low on "other" diets I was literally having to fight to get any lower. If WW keeps it up, I'll be below goal in no time!
A little about me, I'm 26, I live in Alaska. I am married to Ben, 30 and we have three children. Lily is 3 (I birthed her), Makaila is 9 and Daniel is 11. I work full time for a national non-profit and sell candles on the side. I have been on WW for about 11 weeks.
Thanks for listening to me ramble and allowing me to join in!
Angie - Good for you for getting back on track after that hamburger.
Rachel - Welcome and congrats on a great loss and on reaching your 10% goal. Sounds like you must be busy, what with the three kids, working and doing the candles. I live in Illinois, am currently working part-time for the religious education department at my church, am married and have a 7 year old daughter, Ana. And I'm soon to be 46 years old.
Judy - The Red Sox are going to be in town this weekend playing the Cubs. You want we should beat them for you?
We ended up eating a light dinner at home last night. It's just too hot to want to get dressed to go out. I'm in dire need of getting to the grocery store. The good thing is we don't really have any snack items in the house. The bad thing is we don't have much of anything else either. Tomorrow I'm going to lunch for my bosses birthday and then in the evening we may go to the city for Blues Fest. So it will be a challenge. I'll just do my best.
Carla - Congratulations on your loss of substance! It's a great feeling, isn't it? Sorry about the plumbing - there's nothing like emergency house expenses to put a cabosh on vacation plans. Happy Anniversary again. It looks like you are set with tutoring resources. One thing my professor recommended on Wednesday for phonics is a tape (although I just saw VHS and DVD's online) of a program called Rock N Learn Phonics - she said kids have fun with it. You may want to check it out although it certainly looks like you have a lot of good resources. Thanks to your Cubbies for beating the Bosox. It was quite a day yesterday - the Yankees actually won although they are losing now - what else is new? Did you go to the Blues Fest? If so, I'm sure you did just fine and I hope you enjoyed yourself.
Angie - sorry that you took the hit for the hamburger but the craving is over and done with. I really think that naturally thin people allow themselves to have things like hamburgers once in a while - so they don't eat around it and they also don't think of it as license to keep eating like that.
Hi Rachel and welcome! Congratulations on reaching your 10% goal - that's fantastic. I'm determined this time to get there (and further) myself. Wow, it does sound like you are busy! I'm 48 and I live in the suburbs of NYC. I used to work in technology on Wall Street but two years ago I changed careers. For the last two years I've been working as a teaching assistant, taking my Masters in Education at night. I'll be going to school straight through the summer, will student teach in the fall and will be a certified teacher in Elem Ed and Literacy in January.
I lost a whopping 0.2 pounds this week ;-) but it's what I deserve since I did a fair amount of snacking during the week. I counted it though and was glad to see the loss no matter how small. It's been so hot here and with no air conditioning in school it was really miserable. I came home every day totally drained - as a result, I did absolutely no exercise - unusual for me. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm babying my knee and so not doing the kinds of exercise I really like. I did some yoga yesterday and did a weights tape today. I'm going to try to stay consistent with the exercise this week even if it remains hot. The good news is that the first summer semester at grad school is almost over - I have class tomorrow night and Wednesday and while I still will have some work to do, the bulk of the work is done (I spent a good 4 hours working today).
Just a quick hello from a newbie! I started WW yesterday and am not going to meetings or doing it online through WW. The cost is prohibitive to us right now. I'm a SAHM to 4 of our 7 kids, although we do support 6 of them and the other is in the Navy. Only 3 will be with us in the fall as our oldest daughter goes away to college then. To get to a meeting is over 45 minutes one way and then add the cost of the meeting and a babysitter and I can't justify the cost right now. So I'm doing this by myself....but now that I'm here at 3FC I'm not doing it alone!!!
I'm struggling with hunger pangs, but don't know if it's really hunger or if it's just all in my head. This is my first diet ever and I swore I'd never be on one, but now is the time in my life to do this. I really do need to figure out how to eat without these pangs or I won't stick to this for very long! Anywho, glad to be a part of this wonderful site!
well I did my weigh in on saturday and it showed a 1lb gain, but its also that TOM so it could be that or it could be that hamburger Not losing hope though I've already got a good start and going into 5th week I've lost a total of 11lbs so its all good.
I went to bingo saturday night and actually won $100 so I used that to get me a weight watchers scale
I woke up this morning with a sore throat and my sinuses bothering me, my youngest has been sick this week also and yesterday she had a rash start appearing all over, its gone now, but I pulled an all nighter keeping an eye on her so I'm a lot tired today. I haven't eaten anything because I'm not really hungry, just the thought of food right now is yuck. I took some ibuprofen which finally helped me get up off the couch and get moving so I'm hoping the day will get better.
