Thumbs up Weigh in At Home 6/13-6/19

Ok I will start the topic and say WOOO HOOO!!! I am down 4 pounds this week!!!!!
Total loss 5lb in 2 weeks.
I am excited and more motivated than ever to keep going!
The recipes here and the fact that I have to weigh in each week and post here are helping too.
My goal this week is to incorporate more exercise into my life. That is a bigger challenge for me than staying on program with my points (although both are challenging!!)
I hope everyone else has a good weigh-in this week too!!

Hi all.

Judy - Well, the Cubbies accommodated your Yankees for 2 out of three games, at least. Thanks for the phonics recommendation. I'm going to check if the library has it. Congratulations on your loss! It may seem small, but at least the scale is going in the right direction. Hard to believe that you're so close to finishing school. It seems like yesterday that you were suffocating in the corporate world. What a bummer that school doesn't have air conditioning, especially since it's been so miserable hot. It's been that way here too. We did go to Blues Fest on Friday. I had a boneless rib sandwich, an ear of roasted corn and a couple of beers. But that was offset by lots of walking, so I think it was a wash. Plus I ate really light during the day.

Kiki - Welcome. Hunger pangs are normal at first and yes, some of them will just be in your head. Ride them out and you'll adjust.

Rachel - Congrats on a great loss! Exercise is a real challenge for me too. I have good intentions of doing it, but then.... Judy is our exercise guru and will be happy to play drill sargeant if you ask her.

Blues Fest aside, I had a fairly good weekend. Saturday was our church's block party, but that wasn't too bad. Yesterday was a quiet day at home. John made mango soup for dinner and I made a pasta salad with ff sour cream and mayo. All in all, not too bad. Ana lost her first tooth last night, so it was quite an exciting evening in our house. The only thing is, she had trouble sleeping last night, which meant I didn't get any sleep either. So I'm off to brew a pot of coffee in a couple of minutes.

Have a great day.

Carla

Rachel – congratulations on a great loss! I think I’m the opposite from you in terms of exercise – I love it and love to do it – it’s the food and the points that is tough for me.

Carla – thank you to your Cubbies! I’m afraid the Yankees couldn’t follow through on their own. Your welcome about the recommendation – my professor said that kids really like it so I’ll be interested in hearing what Ana thinks! Yes, it’s amazing how quickly time flies – a little more than 2 years ago, I was getting ready to leave the corporate world. Although I do miss the $$, I have never regretted the decision for one minute (of course, let’s see how long it takes me to get a job once I have my certifications!) It sounds like you did really well at the Blues Fest. Mmmm, mango soup sounds fabulous. Am I correct in assuming it’s a chilled soup? Care to give up the recipe? Tony and I just love mangoes (sp??) Sorry about the lack of sleep – I hope you are doing better today.

Nikki8221 – parties can be tough. I’m sure you’ll get right back on track.

I did OK yesterday a little too snacky late in the evening but not too bad and I counted it all. It’s going to be brutally hot and humid today – that helps cut down on eating during the day. I’m going to try to do something exercise wise today after I get home and cool off. Let’s see if I follow through – maybe some gentle yoga…..

Have a great one!

Hi all.

Nikki - Just hop back on that wagon. You'll do fine.

Judy - The cubbies needed those wins over the BoSox, mostly in terms of confidence boosting. We've been so injury plagued. We have another crosstown series coming up. I sure hope we can do as well when the sox are white instead of red. Any chance of you getting hired on permanently in the school you're working at now? Will you do your student teaching there? I'd be happy to share the mango soup recipe with you. I'll have John verify which one he used and then I'll type it up for you. Since it's from a cookbook, I'd rather e-mail it to you than post it. I don't think I have your current e-mail address. If you don't want to post it here, then send me a private message. Just let me know you've sent one. Do you know I just now noticed the one from 5/26? Yoga sounds like just the ticket after a day in the heat. We're now enjoying cooler weather - in the high 70s. Hopefully it will be heading your way soon.

I'm so glad our hot weather broke. I cannot take the heat, especially when it's accompanied by humidity. So I haven't even cared to go outside. I waited until 6:30 to take Ana to the pool yesterday, just to avoid the worst of the sun. One good thing is that the hot weather reduces my appetite. I think I'll be making a lot of salads for dinner!

Have a great day.

Weighed in this morning and was down a pound. Not too shabby considering I was bad bad bad this weekend and practically no exercise. I'm back on track this week and doing all I can to stay that way. Congrats everyone on their weight loss. Sometimes it's so surreal to look back and see that I've lost 21lbs. It feels like it was just yesterday that I started all of this!

Hi, i'm new here. I've been doing points at home for 3 weeks and lost 7 pounds, but I seem to have gained 3 this week. I weigh on Friday, so maybe they will come off before then. I seem to be over points some days and under some. I figured it would balance out, but I guess that doesn't work.

Carla – The salads sound like a great idea. Our heat wave finally broke yesterday – thank goodness! I’m hoping I will be hired at the school I’m working at – I’m doing my student teaching there and have told the Asst Principal that afterwards (in Jan when I have my certifications, I’d like to be considered for the “permanent sub position”. The problem is, the market is really tight and it’s hard to get an elementary job on Long Island. The ideal would be to be a permanent sub in the spring and hopefully being hired the following year. Of course, there aren’t any permanent spots open now – if the net teacher’s contract has a retirement incentive in it, there will be some openings around the district. I’m just figuring that something will work out – I’m sure the subbing for those two days doesn’t hurt.

Racheldawn – congratulations on this loss and that great total!

Susie – so many things have an effect on the scale (including what we eat). I wouldn’t stress about the gain you saw on what we here call your sneak peek; it could be water retention or the weather! Just stick to the plan and it will come off.

I’ve had a couple of rough evenings snacking wise – I know it’s from the stress of the last few days of finishing the first literacy practicum (the last class was last night – report submitted – I just have to have the parent conference). Not that snacking helped anything – oh well, I counted the points and have moved on. Thankfully today there are no birthday parties in class (yesterday I succumbed to a Krispy Kreme) and I just had fruit and this morning’s bridal shower. Of course, all the wicked leftovers are in the faculty room but I have a big salad and will try to resist the goodies. At least Tuesday after work, even in the heat, I came home and did a little cardio and abs. I’m planning on some yoga today after work and then do a little straightening around the house. I have a week and a half break before the next literacy practicum begins – yipeee!

Have a great one!

Hi Friends, old and new...

Here I am again. Been on and off with eating right and exercising, mostly on this week, and motivated to make an appearance. Life is beyond busy, but I'm trying to keep it together by getting in some exercise. It really does help in the coping department. I'm signed up to walk 60 km over two days in August in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, so I really *do* have to get myself into some semblance of shape by then.

Missed you lots, Judy and Carla...I'll be back tomorrow.

Karen
