Judy and Carla, sorry you're both struggling. I hope you'll both have a better week this week. Good thing we don't all have simultaneous meltdowns.

Don't have much to report. Mike and I had a planned NOP weekend, if there is such a thing, but didn't go nuts. I managed to get in a bit more exercise last week and am aiming for more yet this week.

My goal for today is to deal with all the clean not-yet-folded laundry that's gracing my dining room table, so off I go to fold and put away.

Have a good one...

Carla - thanks for the hand-up and thanks for starting the thread. I spent my time before door duty punching out letters from construction paper for a presentation board on poetry for my next Children's Lit project!

Karen - good for you for not going nuts on your NOP weekend. Way to go on the exercise front!!! That's what I like to hear! I hope the folding went quickly. I did a few loads over the weekend myself.

I had a better day yesterday and am doing OK so far today. I did have a bit of difficulty at lunch. I brought some cut over chicken and ham to throw on top of a salad I was going to buy at the cafeteria. The "veggie man" didn't come though so there were no salads so I bought a bagel, dug out the insides and put the meat inside it. I don't know if he ever came today so I am planning on bringing the salad tomorrow to go with the leftover bean and pasta stew from Cooking Light that we had tonight. I'm planning on doing a little yoga for my back before I go to sleep tonight. My back has been very stiff lately - I don't know what it is - yesterday everything ached - I felt very arthritic although the weather clear and sunny - no storms coming. I don't know, maybe it's the change in seasons?? In any case, I'm going to try to get to bed early tonight and get up a few minutes early so I can do a little yoga in the morning. Tomorrow is the first of 2 long days and I have to do something to stay comfortable and loose.

Have a great one!

I had a good night last night. I snacked but stopped 2 hours before bed and they were both totally core. I'm patting myself on the back for getting to bed early and getting up a little early to do a short yoga workout. My back is thanking me for it. What helped is talking to my chiropractor yesterday about my back. When I mentioned that it helped if I stretched in the morning but it was tough getting up early, she gave me one of those looks and said "well then it's just something that you *have* to do". Funny, how someone else can say that and it sticks. We'll see if I can manage it tomorrow after late classes tonight.

Have a great one!

Sometimes I think I need to spend about a day to get these forums figured out. Could someone give me a brief description on what we do on this thread. I know you're all very busy, but it would be appreciated. Is it like a mini-weekly meeting with our weight updated? Thanks!

Hi all,

Karen - Yeah for you for not going nuts on your NOP weekend. Your dining room table sounds like mine - used for everything except dining.

Judy - Glad to hear that your struggles are easing. Good for you for scooping out the insides of the bagel. I probably would have just given up and slathered on some cream cheese. How was the bean and pasta stew? Worth my hunting down the recipe when I'm at the library tomorrow. Yeah, how come someone else can state the obvious to us and we act on it, when we know all along what we have to do.

Darl - Welcome aboard. Glad to have you. I haven't hit menopause yet, but peri-menopause has raised it's ugly head and you're right, it's a lot harder to get the pounds off and a whole lot easier to get them on. There's nothing too much to figure out about this thread. Every Monday we start a new thread for the week and we get here to post when we can. We do post our weigh-in results, but our weigh-in days all vary.

I have to dash because Ana is in her bath and is calling me. But first - I got one of those stupid pounds that I put back on off again. Slow but sure. Eating is a bit better. I'm going out to lunch today, but will be reasonable and count.

Talk to you all soon.

Hi everyone- Weighted in this morning to find no change. No loss, no gain. At first I was disappointed. Then I had to be honest about my eating this past week. Last weekend I was in charge of a huge dinner at church- with lots of desserts. That meant unwise choices most of the weekend, and to many tastes of those desserts! So even though I was faithful M-W it kept off whatever I truly had gain this past weekend. So time to buckle down- no eatting whatever over the weekend- if I want to be excited on Thursday come weigh in time.

Hi All...

Brandie - yup...unfortunately the scale always catches up with us when we NOP. Anyway, a maintain beats a gain. Maybe some preplanning for the weekend would help...including snacks.

Carla - We have a whole three chairs left for our dining room table. Jasper and Lucy use the dining room as a racetrack when nobody's home and chase each other around the table. They've knocked over and broken 5 chairs. Anyway, I did clear it off, which felt good - true confessions time here: I still had the tablecloth on the table from Christmas dinner. I'm so glad that another pound has slipped away. How was lunch out?

Judy - I'm terrified of chiropractors. Sounds like you got some great relief from her though. I hope her advice sticks with you. I went to a physiotherapist a couple of weeks ago about my chronically sore and uncomfortable neck. He gave me two really unusual kind of stretching exercises to do, and it has made an incredible difference. I have to keep reminding myself to do the stretches though.

I have succumbed to the evil vending machine at work a couple of times this week, but other than that, food has been pretty good. I need to up the exercise in a big way. My happy news is that I'm taking tomorrow off work, which will give me three short work weeks in a row coming up, and then I'm on vacation for two weeks. I'm just exhausted and need the break.

Tomorrow I'm off to play at Whole Foods. I'm sure I'll come home several hundred dollars poorer.

Off to climb into my nest. Have a good Friday, and a great weekend.

Karen

Hi all.

Brandie - Congrats on the maintain. It means you sucessfully recovered from your weekend. Weekends are tough for me. And a huge pat on the back for being honest with yourself about your eating.

Karen - I'm so glad that you have three short work weeks and then two weeks off. You deserve it and I'm sure that by now, with the craziness at work, you need it. Enjoy your trip to Whole Foods today. I haven't been in awhile. Good for you for hitting the vending machine only a couple of times. And as for your true confession: well, me too. Lunch out was good.

It's been a so-so week. My eating has been better, but not as good as it could be. The weather has been cold, snowy, and gloomy here and I'm still feeling under the weather. I was feeling better, then bam - yesterday it hit again and I ended up sleeping most of the morning. But, I will soldier on. Sunday we're going to my MIL's for her annual corned beef and cabbage dinner. You old-timers know how I feel about corned beef. I might bring some pasta. A family that is primarily Polish and Italian should be celebrating St. Joseph's day on St. Joseph's day, not St. Patrick's day. But that's just me.

Have a good day and a great weekend.

Darl – Welcome! I’m right with Carla in peri-menopause and yes, it’s a lot harder to get the pounds off and they come back on oh so easily!

Carla – congratulations on getting rid of one of those pounds! The bean and pasta stew was just yummy. If you can’t find it, I’ll be happy to send it to you (although it won’t be until we get back from AC). You too (on the tablecloth?) You cracked me up about the corned beef! I’m sorry that you are feeling worse again.

Brandie – good for you for being honest with yourself. I too often fall into the “great M-F and then do whatever on the weekend” syndrome. I know that’s why I seem to be at a standstill at times. I agree with Karen though, a maintain beats a gain any time!

Karen – I cracked up when I read about the holiday tablecloth. Last weekend, Tony and I finally took off the tablecloth we had on for Christmas Eve!! The only reason we finally got to it was because my parents were coming over for dinner! Yeah, I love my chiropractor. I agree that certain stretches can make an amazing difference. I have problems with carpal tunnel and I bought a book of unusual stretches, that when I do them, really help. It’s something about stretching the fascia (sp??) I’m so glad that you have a short week and then on vacation – I can just hear the stress and exhaustion in your post! I have to up the exercise too which will be challenging next week since I’ll be away.

The week started off better than it ended. The PMS monster is still stomping around my house and when I announced to Tony last night that I needed chocolate, he (unfortunately) obliged and went out and got some! At least I’m on vacation from both schools this week – I am really beat and really need the break. Needless to say, I did not make my meeting this morning but have promised to do so next week. I’m driving up to CT later today to see some fitness friends (staying over and driving home tomorrow morning) and then on Monday Tony and I going down to AC, coming back on Thursday. So I made a decision today. As much as I got to the point of loathing points, I decided I had to do a points week this week. It’s hard enough when you’re going to be eating out almost all of your meals all week to be on program but I think you have more flexibility and more chance of staying OP if you count points. I think I lot of it had to do with the fact that my stepdaughter called last night and told me that she joined WW (wanted to do core) and we had a nice chat about it. She had been doing Atkins last year but realized that it wasn’t something she could stay on forever. Anyway, I did a little yoga this morning and I’m going to try to do a one hour workout with Gilad on FitTV in a little while before I shower and get on the road.

Have a great weekend!
