It's going to be a crazy few days - the school is having Spring Exhibit tonight so I'm going to run home (early dismissal), wash my hair and then Tony and I are going to eat at an Italian restaurant near the school - he'll go home and I'll be here form 7:30 - 9:00. Then of course tomorrow and Wed and late nights at school. Three late nights in a row is going to be interesting! I don't know about workouts these three days - I may try to do a short yoga workout when I get home - if not, I'll have to catch up on Thursday. Tonight's dinner will be a challenge but I think I'll see if they have a fish dish.

Have a great one!

Hi all,

Feeling a little more in control this week - at least so far, but it's only Monday.

Judy - 3 late nights would do me in - I'm generally heading in the general direction of bed by 8:30 or 9:00 on a weeknight. Hope you managed to find something point friendly at the restaurant tonight - fish is a great choice if they have it.

Mosher - I think its a great idea to mix up your points; even if it was unintentional. Doesn't give your body the chance to get used to operating on a fixed amount of fuel, and if your bod is anything like mine, it needs all the tricks in the book to get it in losing mode!

Darkfair - I'm not familiar with sugar points either, so I'm not sure how they work. I know with flex you get 35 "whatever" points a week. I follow a loose version of core and South Beach combined...I've been a little on the "loose" side for a few weeks, time to get a bit more focussed.

Donna - your vacation sounds great. And so does the international dinner...mmm. We have a very multicultural staff at my workplace; they threw a rather impromptu potluck lunch today; featuring East Indian and Philipino dishes...I ate so much at lunch that I passed on dinner tonight.

I treadmilled before work this morning. My plan for the week is to essentially climb out of bed and onto the treadmill every morning. I think it's the only way I'm going to get in any aerobic exercise. I felt pretty energetic all day, and set two personal bests this evening while working out with Mike; pec flys and tricep pushdowns. I'm off to read in bed for a few minutes before sleep.

Have a great Tuesday.

Karen

this week i'm working on taking 10,000 steps. i bought a pedometer and even with taking a 15 minute walk at lunch time i got in less than 5,000. looks like i'll have to build up a little each day.

I weighed in this morning, and my first week's loss is 3.5kg (7.7lbs)!!!!
I'm thrilled with this result, and it's motivated me to keep on with this plan.

Mosher, 10000 steps is a great goal. Most of us don't realize how little we move. A pedometer is an excellent tool.

Darkfair - congratulations on a great loss...you probably won't see another one that big; you tend to lose a lot of water during the first week or two...but still, it's exciting to see the scale move so much at first.

Things are going well in my corner of the world, although for some reason I thought I need to eat about 4 handfuls of almonds last night before bed - and I'm not generally an evening snacker. Oh well...at least they were organic, and not chocolate covered!

Have a great day, everyone.

Mosher – 10,000 steps is a great goal to work towards. There was jut a study I heard about on the radio that talked about trying to get in short workouts during the day so you are right on target.

Darkfair – fabulous loss! It’s exciting to see a loss like that. Karen’s right about the loss at the beginning of the journey and it’s good to know that you probably won’t see a loss like that each week so you don’t get discouraged but congratulations on a great start!

Karen – I’m glad to hear that things are going well for you. I had to laugh about the almonds not being chocolate covered. Maybe the snack was related to stress? In any case, it could have been a lot worse so congrats for limiting it.

I have not been much OP the last few days. I did have fish at the restaurant on Monday but Tony and I shared some fried calamari as an appetizer (tossed with an arabiata sauce) and the portions were huge so we took that (plus ½ our entrees) home. Over the last two nights I finished the calamari. I didn’t have grad school on Tuesday because we had a bad storm – the roads were terribly icy. Usually it takes me 25 minutes to get home from work – on Tuesday it took me 2 hours! I managed to get in an upper body workout on Tuesday at gym period but no workout yesterday (when I got home from class I just wanted to veg). We had a delayed opening yesterday and the principal brought in doughnuts for the staff for making it in with the bad weather. Between the night before and yesterday’s mornings commute, I guess I succumbed to a chocolate glazed doughnut. My back is a little achy this morning (no doubt because I haven’t stretched it) so I’m going to the chiropractor after work today and will try to get in a back yoga session after that. My goal for today is to just have a core day to limit (and count!) any other points I consume. I also have to check my calendar –the PMS monster may be creeping up on me.

Have a great one,
Judy

Hi everyone- Weigh in this morning 4 lbs lost total for the week. I am so excited. When I got on the scale this morning, I gave out a "YES!" and my husband was like WHAT?? I told him and he was like oh is that all. He is very supportive though- he wanted to know what I was last week and then it hit him that 4 pounds is a BIG deal! Yes I know some of it's water weight but I don't care- generally I lose 2-3 pounds a week. SO 4lbs is great for me- esp. with only getting ONE 2 1/2 mile walk in- with all the cold weather here in Iowa. It snowed this morning but it's already gone- the temps are in the 40's today- and getting more bearable.

Hi all.

Still alive, still kickin.

Judy - Sounds like your crummy weather headed out west to us. Yesterday it was cold, but at least sunny. Today - it's gray and snowing. At least the only commute I have to make is to Ana's school, which is just 1.5 miles away. You must have been white knuckling it all the way home Tuesday night. I'm getting a bit sick of this all.
And that darn PMS monster is visiting me as well as you and he really kicked my butt the past few days. Hate him.

Karen - I'm glad to hear that you're feeling more in control. Scratch that. I'm glad to hear that you are more in control. It's a lovely feeling, no? How's getting up and on the treadmill working? I remember fondly how good it felt to workout in the morning. The fondness doesn't mean I'm doing anything to revisit it, though.

Mosher - Good for you for setting such a great goal. 10,000 steps seems like such a lot, but little things like parking the car at the far end of an aisle, etc. add up. I need to haul out my pedometer and see where I'm at. I think I'd be lucky to crack 5,000 at this point.

Darkfair - Congrats on a terrific loss!

Bezan - Congratus on your terrific loss, too! I wish our snow was already gone. It just keeps on coming.

I've had a horrible week and an even worse trip to the scale to show for it. I'm just about back to where I was at the beginning of the year. Two and a half months gone and nothing to show for it. I suppose a bit is water weight, but still. I suppose it's been a combo of PMS, stress about Ana, and not feeling well. I'm still hovering at the border of being sick. Throat hurts a bit off and on, same for my ear. Low grade fever off and on. Not sick enough to stay home and in bed, but feeling crummy enough that it's hard to find the energy to do anything. I wish that I would just get sick and get it over with. I have got to put all of that aside and stick with this program and get my butt in gear and exercise though. Virusy like symptoms aside, I feel really crummy and my stomach is all messed up and I know it's from the way I've been eating. So far, so good today, though, at least with the food and I have no intention of bringing any more junk into this house. Exercise is going to have to wait a couple more days though. It's taking all my energy just to get through my day.

Talk to you all later. Have a great day.

It's another day. It's still cold, but the sun has been shining all day, my period started, and three pounds worth of water are gone. I'm in a much better place today than I was yesterday.

I'll try to drop back in later. If not, have a great day and a terrific weekend.

Brandie - congratulations on your great loss!

Carla - Oh man, I am right there with you. I know a lot of what I've seen on the scale is water (can't get my ring off) both from what I ate and from PMS (the monster is still kicking around my house) but my eating this entire week has been just awful. Between GS cookies (which are thankfully gone now) and anything else I could get in my mouth - yuk! I didn't do either of the things I said I would - come here and pick up my knitting. I'm sorry you are feleing crummy. I've been taking Airborne all week and the cold hasn't got me yet although I wake up a bit congested. My stomach has been all mesed up too and I know it's from what I've been eating. How about if the two of us work together to have a better week this week? I don't know if TOM will come or not but I need to get back on the wagon - maybe since we've both been off it we can help each other get back on?

As I said, it's been a horrible week and I opted to sleep in yesterday instead of weighing in - big surprise. I am sick of eating like I did last week and it has to stop. My parents came over yesterday and as planned we got ribs takeout (every one of the restaurants we used to go to once in a while for ribs closed and we found this great takeout place in our town). I tried to count what I ate and did not stuff (and therefore we have leftovers!) but it was an expensive meal pointwise - it was also pretty heavy on the sodium because my rings are incredibly tight. At least I managed to do some yoga yesterday - my back was really tight (has been since the 2 hour drive home in the storm on Tuesday). Even though the weather wasn't bad last night I was so darned achy (arthritis wise). I'm feeling better today and plan on getting in some cardio as well as some yoga to keep my back loose.

I am determined to have a good week. I re-scheduled my doctor's appt from a week from tomorrow to the end of April - I just didn't want to hear the lecture. Of course, I am seeing some of my fitness friends next weekend and had hoped to be under 150 by then (instead of nearer to 160). Oh well, nothing I can do about that except get back on the wagon and have a good week. Next week I am off both work-school and grad school. We are planning to go to AC for a few days - I like the idea of the relaxation (and will bring my computer both for school work and for some exercise dvds I can do in the room) but I have to watch the meals in the restaurants and the alchohol! All the more reason to be on program this week!@

Today I had a yummy core breakfast and Tony and I will have leftovers from a great bean stew that was in the last Cooking Light - almost all core, really delicious and filling. I have to go to the school library to return and renew some books, after which I want to do a little school work. I'm planinning on doing some cardio and a yoga workout this afternoon. My goal for today is to get all my water and milk in (veggies won't be problem) and no food for me after 9:00!

Have a great one!

Judy - Grab my hand and we'll climb in that wagon together. Here's to a better week for both of us. And I'm going to head to the library to look up that recipe in Cooking Light. I do love my beans.
