Bubble tea

I'm sorry if this has been posted, but my searches didn't come up with anything.

I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what pointage is for Bubble tea (tapioca incl.)? I love this stuff, and have been refraining from drinking it because I'm unsure what the points value is.

Thanks! :)

I don't think there is a standard recipe, so the sugar and tapioca content is going to vary. I counted mine as I would the same size lemonade, and then added 2 points for the tapioca. (I guestimated it as 1 point, and added another to be safe).

I have never heard of bubble tea. What is it? and where do you buy it? Flavours? :?:

It's really popular in asian communities, so you sometimes find in oriental restaurants. A young asian guy just opened a tea bar in our town that only serves drinks. Bubble tea isn't really tea (but it can be made with tea) it's more like a fruit ade, or sometimes a slush. Then they add black tapioca (the big pea sized pearl tapioca), which are a sort of soft gummy-bear texture. The straw is big and wide to such up the chewy pearls. I ordered watermelon the other day, but they have all sorts of fruit and nut flavors (like hazelnut, almond, coconut, coffee, vanilla, pistachio).

Check Calorieking.com - My guess is that it is high in calories due to sugar.

Just to let everyone know that according to etools, bubble tea is 2 pts per cup! :) I was pleasantly surprised about that. it's pretty much equal to juice, which is how I was interpreting it. I love bubble tea. mmmm.

If you wanted to make it yourself, all you would have to do, is make a sweet ice tea, crystal light, or juice drink and add a a couple tablespoons of cooked tapioca pears. You'd basically just boil a tablespoon or two of tapioca pearls and boil until tender. You might be able to find pearl tapioca in the grocery store, but to find the big black pearl tapioca (or the white the same size) you probably need to find an oriental grocery store.

OMG it never occured to me to make it myself! egads I shouldn't know this... But I could make a WW friendly version. hmm... *begins scheming*
