Help! Day 2 and I'm starving!

I have done WW in the past (points) and found that I was never hungry and could eat alot! I am on day 2 of counting points on my own and I am starving! I don't know if my eating has been so out of control that I am not use to eating "normal amounts". Right now I am staying home with my 14 month old daughter and I find I need a substantial lunch to keep the snacking in the afternoon under control. Any suggestions for hearty lunches and breakfasts that don't use alot of points?

Thanks,

nancy

BREAKFAST:

1/2 cup Egg Beaters + lots of free veggies made into an omelet and topped with salsa = 1 point
2 slices of light bread + 1 tablespoon Brummel & Brown or ICBINB Light Spread = 2 points
1 orange or apple = 1 point

LUNCH:

Large salad (greens) + 1/2 ounce of cheese topped with salsa = 1 point
Sandwich (2 slices light bread, 6 slices Hillshire Farms Deli Select Meats, lettuce, tomato, mustard) = 2 points
7 Cheddar or Caramel QUAKES = 1 points
1 orange or apple = 1 point

i made a yummy stuffed tomato, that i think is pretty low in points. i got a nice, big, red tomato and cut the top off. i scooped the insides out like a little pumpkin, and discarded the seeds.

i had some boiled potato that i mashed up and mixed in some garlic and some basil. then i put as much potato could fit into the tomato and stuck it in a steamer basket and steamed it for a little bit, until the tomato skin was loose.

i put that in the middle of my plate and cut up some red, yellow, and orange mini bell peppers (mmm...so sweet and yummy) to garnish it. with the rest of my steamed veggies, i arranged them on my plate attractively and drizzled some lemon dill sauce over it (from trader joes...i used a teaspoon full, cut with water, so i had plenty of flavor for my veggies for not too much fat)

i think the whole plate of food is under 5pts. i know my mom and dad were looking at my food a bit enviously. :-) it was very filling too, because i couldn't eat it all.

Kelly - That's a great meal plan for one day! Thanks! I think I'm going to use your idea for this week :)
I am new to ww and I am getting tired of the frozen foods but I am still learning how to manage my pts on regular food so I didn't want to take a chance.

greyhounds4me 04-04-2003 07:39 PM

Hi Nancy,

I'm new to this forum but not to WW. I just wanted to let you know that there's nothing wrong with snacking if you choose the right snacks. As a matter of fact, you'll probably feel better if you spread your points out over 5 or 6 smaller meals. This will keep you blood sugar level and you won't sucumb as easy to the "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" syndrome. I make these great little muffins that are 1 point each and very filling. Get the Duncan Hines muffin mix that is made from Kellogs All Bran cereal. They come in blueberry and apple cinnamon. Don't add any of the other ingredients the directions say to add and instead mix the dry mix with a 15 oz. can of pumpkin. Spoon all the batter evenly into 12 muffin tins and bake. They won't rise and are very heavy but have so much fiber that they are very satisfying. I also like the 94% fat free popcorn, boca burgers, fat-free pretzel stix...the list goes on. Get the list of 1 point foods and be creative.

Where do you get the Hillshire Farms deli select meats?

Kelly_S 09-13-2004 05:22 PM

In the lunch meat section of most grocery stores. Basically you can get various brands that are the same (Healthy Choice has some, I sometimes use Dagwood ones too from Wal-Mart) but usually there are 6 slices for 1 point total.

I understand

First, I must say, part of it is the way you have been eating in the past. I am having the same problem. I am not sure it is hunger as much as habit.

I made the zero point soup and eat that and also carrots and celery sticks. Lots of popcorn too. I notice that some days are better than others. Right now is PMS time and I want to eat constantly!!!!!!!!!!

amcap74 10-09-2004 06:59 PM

I went through the same "hunger" in the beginning. I have low-blood sugar and was being very careful about "budgeting" my points to allow for an afternoon snack, but it still wasn't enough. I was getting awful migraines every day as a result. I told my chiropractor about it, who also turned out to be a WW Lifetime Member. He told me food is like a drug and I was going through withdrawal because of the drastic reduction in calories. He told me to stick with it and the headaches would subside and it would get easier. They did subside and it did get easier. I had never heard that explanation before and it is probably the reason I never stuck with any other diet plan before, including WW the previous 2 times I tried.

10 months later, I still have my days and even my weeks where I'm hungrier than others. Usually when I'm PMSing. But on those rare occassions, I have my 35 flex points. I rarely use them now and never use all of them.

There are other members, including myself who have posted their daily menu on here to share and get ideas. Check them out. Good luck.

I'm a lifetimer who is returning because of baby weight. A lot of it! I'm having to deal with the same hunger, and right now, my weapon is V8. Keeping cans of it in the frige means I can grab it quickly before my head tells me it's okay to start considering other things that aren't so good for me. After, I'm not so hungry and I've gotten some vegetables in for the day!

Kelly_S 12-12-2004 09:23 AM

The only thing with the V8 it is very high sodium and may cause water retention!

onobles 12-13-2004 07:57 AM

That's a good point! Especially when you suddenly see your tummy pooch out even though you've stayed on program!

I would also say that a nice hot cup of tea sometimes hits the spot when what I really want is a little comfort. Sit down, calm down, sip tea, think about success!

Today I've eaten Brealfast- oatmeal/milk and an orange ( 4 pts.)
Lunch -1 c cott.cheese/Oatmeal to Go bar/apple (8 pts. )
Supper will be - French Onion soup/ceas. salad (8 pts.)
snacks -hot.choc/apple/ch.stick (3 pts.)
total for the day.................. 23 pts.

Clipper what do you mean under your 23 points (what you has planned or is that your bare minimum)?

Youngblood 12-16-2004 08:24 AM

If you are hungry use your flex points. That's what they are there for. Also do a little exercise which gives you one or two points. If you have the feeling you need something in you mouth have a candy cane (they're 1 pt.) chew gum. I feel the same way at times so I always care little candy cane cuncks in my purse or pocket. Good luck, it will get easier.

icemomma 01-08-2005 10:44 PM

I would like to know where greyhounds4me found the Duncan Hines muffin mix she mentioned in an earlier post. What chain of grocery store can you find it in?

sugarholic 01-10-2005 02:37 PM

I ALWAYS find the first couple days are hard and find myself starving because I do tend to pig out when I'm not on WW. To make it through those first couple days I always start with 23 points, drink a ton of water, and if I really need to eat something out of my point range I jump on my treadmill and earn those extra points so that I can eat. I've always found a can of Campbells soup to be pretty filling at lunch with a point value of only 4 points. Drink the broth and lick the bowl clean. Also this may sound grosse to some people, but a big bowl of cucumbers and vinegar is actually really filling and 0 points. Plus somewhat of a system flusher if you know what I mean. Good luck and hang in there, the benefits are so rewarding. I'm talking this way because tomorrow I am starting WW again, and I know I'm going to be in the same boat as you, but we can do it!!!!!!!!!!1

icemomma 01-11-2005 06:14 AM

I always try to eat most of my vegetables at lunch so at dinner I can pretty much eat what I fix the rest of the family. If I get the munchies at night, then I do have some points. Usually lunch is salad and broccoli or some other veggie. Breakfast is usually a yogurt and piece of fruit on the run.

Here is a great article. It could be your hunger/starving is emotional:

Is your hunger PHYSICAL or EMOTIONAL?

Before you eat anything, particularly between meals, ask yourself these questions:

1) Has it been at least four hours since I last ate?
2) Is my stomach grumbling?
3) Do I have a headache or feel light-headed?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, your hunger is physical. Rather than waiting until your next unplanned meal, eat something now to avoid becoming overly hungry and losing control later.

If you answered no to any of the questions, chances are your hunger is emotionally driven. If you have determined that your hunger is emotional, Palma Posillico, general manager of service and training for Weight Watchers International in New York, recommends using the Tools for Living technique called Reframing. Because every behavior “rewards” you with something you want, Reframing will enable you to find a better way to get the same reward. Here’s how it works:

1. Identify what reward the behavior gets you. For example, let’s say that you always overeat late in the evening, which is also the time when you’re alone. You realize that eating comforts you when you feel lonely.

2. Ask yourself what else besides eating can you do that will help you feel less lonely, and then write down a list of several options. Your list might include activities such as e-mailing a friend, going to a movie, making a plan to join a book club, or telephoning a friend.

3. Choose at least three ideas from your list to try, and start implementing one immediately. IF the first option doesn't work, try another. Keep going until you find the solution that works the best for you.

All that TALK

Ok all that advice that I gave you about starving the day before I started WW, I should have kept my mouth closed until after I started. Today is also day 2 for me and I AM STARVING too! I ate soup, drank the broth and licked the bowl clean, I ate the cucumbers and vinegar, I walked two miles on my treadmill, and drank a half gallon of water..............and girl I'm still starving! My friend and her husband started with me yesterday and they both got on the phone with me and were complaining that they were starving too. Her hubby a bit more than us because he went to Arby's, ate a combo, then called his wife to find out that he ate most of his points for the day so he was hurting a little more than us. It felt good to have her support and know that we are both going through the same thing. I referred her to this site for the extra support too. We both are so determined to lose weight and stick with this diet, I know it will only be a matter of days until my stomach shrinks and I feel better. Plus tomorrow my semester at school starts so that will keep me busy busy busy and my mind off food. One day at a time.

chixyb 01-12-2005 06:39 PM

Today is day 3 for me and I am feeling a bit better. Although day 1 and 2 I was also starving. Thankfully I didn't go over my points, I just stuck with it. It is mostly because I am cutting my caloric intake in HALF! Yes I used to eat over 2000 calories a day, with no exercise! I have found that saving most my points for dinner and snacks help. I had a campbells soup at hand soup for lunch today along with a serving of caesar salad, all for 6 points! It was fulfilling and has saved me points for dinner. Which I am about to eat, once I figure out what I want, because I am starving right now! And I still have 16 points for dinner and dessert!

You will get through it, try drinking a lot of water and eating foods full of fiber! Good luck!

icemomma 01-12-2005 09:36 PM

Day 3 for me and I"m starving today and not days 1 and 2. I think its because I haven't had all my waters??!! School was delayed today due to fog and that put my lunch schedule screwy so I munched, 1 small bag of goldfish. The other wonderful thing was eating Burger King for dinner. I even had a salad planned and then ate the burger. Tomorrow will be better again.

To everyone who is starving: what have you been eating? I find that I am most hungry on days when I eat a lot of carbs and very little protein. Are you incorporating protein into every meal?

Also, how much sugar did you eat over the past couple of days? I also find that having lots of sugary stuff tends to trigger hunger later on for me.
