can't find NI for IHOP

  • i love going to IHOP but haven't lately because i can't find the Nutritional info to figure out points. their website doesn't have it. i checked calorieking.com, but they don't list the spinach & mushroom omelette i want

i could figure it out by what they put in it, but i don't even know how many eggs they put in their omelettes. i could ask when i get there, but i honestly don't want to go if my favorite food is too many points. i would feel kind of weird calling them up and asking, but i suppose i could suck it up and do that.

it's basically a big omelette with swiss cheese (i could order it without cheese probably), mushrooms, spinach, onions, tomatoes and hollandaise.

    any ideas
  • Oh, special ordering omelets is super easy - I do it all the time. I just ask for a 2 egg omelet, very little oil and butter! If you've ever watched someone at like an omelet station at a buffet make an omelet in front of you, they tend to use a scary amount of oil, don't be shy to ask for only a LITTLE.

Definitely get the veggies, ask for a tiny bit of cheese (they might have a low fat cheese, can't hurt to ask) and get the hollandaise ON THE SIDE, if at all, hollandaise is a killer. Use the tine method to get a taste of it, but use it sparingly!

Something that is yummy on an omelet - SALSA! Yummy and low cal

Breakfast places are some of the easiest to get healthy options. I also like to get 2 poached eggs, 2 pieces of whole grain toast (no butter) and a side of fruit or sliced tomatoes.
  • IHop adds pancake batter to their omletes with the eggs in order to get a fluffier and bigger omlete--so unless you want some extra refined carbs with your meal, specify that you want JUST eggs in your omlete! I've done that couple of times I've gone there, and they don't seem to mind.
  • Are the crepes better for you than the omelet? I know you can get them stuffed with pretty much the same things.
  • Try Dennys instead. I'm not familiar with either chain, but Dennys has full info on their website. Find a contact for IHop and tell them why you've switched to Dennys.

I suspect, as consumers, we'll have to do this more and more until the restaurants understand we'll frequent their businesses less often if they can't be honest about what we're eating.

I found this while doing a search. Touted as the Ultimate Chain Restaurant Nutritional Guide.

  • thanks so much everyone. very helpful!
  • Have them use Eggbeaters! Mine does. I also ask for no added fat. Believe me, the grill is already greasy enough.
  • I've noticed that a lot of sit-down places don't share their nutrition facts the way that fast food joints do.

I emailed Cracker Barrel once to find out where I could find such information and got the most hilariously vague email back. The person told me they could assure me that Cracker Barrel uses fresh, high-quality ingredients and blah-blah-blah.

I'm sure that is the case! We like the food there a lot and we're quite comfortable that they use high-quality, fresh ingredients. Hence the reason that a meal for the four of us (dh, ds (12), dd (4) and myself) comes to around $40 or $50, versus the $15-20 it costs us at McDs. But I wanted to know the calories, fat, carbs, etc.

I figure places like that are not quick to share that information because people will see just how fattening the "nicer place" foods are!!

  • I would ask for a two-egg omelet (only eggs), no cheese, and skip the hollandaise sauce (it's basically all butter and egg yolks.)
  • they are not required to give out cal/fat/fiber and other nutritional information unless they make a health claim on foods. I have no problem with that. If they were required that $6 burger at a sit down place would increase in cost by a bunch. I think the cost to eat out is high enough as it is.

and they would have to continually submit foods for nutritional analysis cost the consumer even more.

You have purchased materials with your program and while it may not be exact you can figure it out to a close guestimate of what the points are by breaking down the item into ingredients and figurign the points that way
  • I live in NYC and the ihops here posts ni on their menus. Our ihops also give you the option of ff spray and just eggs nothing else added. Ate there Friday and still lost...they were really helpful.
