Default Nanaimo Bars

Do they have these in the US? lol not sure..sorry.

Anyways, if anyone knows....of them...do you know how many points would be in a 2x4 bar?

I'm really craving them. Need to get myself a tiny treat!

You can make your own Nanaimo bars

INGREDIENTS:
Bottom Layer:
1 stick butter (1/2 c.)
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/2 c. coconut
.
Second Layer:
1/4 c. butter
2 c. powdered sugar
3 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. instant vanilla pudding mix
.
Third Layer:
3 sq. semisweet chocolate
2 tbsp. butter

PREPARATION:
Bottom Layer:
Melt sugar, butter and cocoa in a double boiler. Let cool. Add egg and vanilla. Add graham cracker crumbs, nuts and coconut and mix well. Cover the bottom of an 8x8 pan with the mixture, packing it down well. Refrigerate.

Second Layer:
Cream the butter and pudding mix. Add milk and powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Spread over first layer and chill until firm.

Third Layer:
Heat to melt. If too thick, add milk. Pour chocolate over top of second layer. Refrigerate. Cut into squares.

Makes 3 dozen.

I looked at a couple of recipes online and they're making 24 pieces in an 8x8" pan. They run anywhere from 200 calories and up. So, a serving is roughly 1"x2.5". So if you're numbers are correct, you're talking about a 3 serving piece. So that would be 600+ calories.

It's the serving size that kills us all sometimes. Even the one above - it would be 1"x1-3/4" (quite small). I didn't work out the calories, but depending on what your calorie levels are for the day (and your ability to eat just one small piece), you might want to look for an alternate sweet treat.

Ooooh Nanaimo Bars... It is probably a good thing that I've never started to make them myself. I have to wait until Christmas time when I'm at home with my mom. If I had a whole pan of them I'd probably go through the whole thing in a sitting-- they're SO GOOD.
