Why do I feel yucky?

  • I'm back on the ww wagon and have been for 3 days. I'm getting protein in (boca burger patties, tuna, and I had chicken for dinner) but I've been eating an obscene amount of veggies-cabbage, broccoli, beans, celery. I'm still hungry often, so I'm trying to nibble on lower point foods and 0 point soup (which I add some beans to, and I know that means it isn't quite 0 points anymore
I feel yucky! I know I've eaten quite a bit of "gassy foods" but I also stopped all my junk food habits. My tummy feels gross, and I had a bit of a headache. Do you guys think it's a combination of too much veggies and maybe my body is detoxing a bit? I'm drinking enough water. I just feel like blech!
I'd appreciate any tips, or if you just want to tell me what a bonehead I am for overdoing the veggies, I'd appreciate that too, lol.
    Thanks,
  • Well, there is the possibility that you're overdoing the gas-inducing foods (such as veggies & beans). Also, since it's only been 3 days, perhaps your digestive system is getting used to this new way of eating. Hrm. If you'd like to post a whole day example of what you're eating we might see something there as well.

PS - Beans, although high in fiber, delicious & good for you, do have points, so be watchful of how many beans you're adding to the soup, and you'll have to count those points.
  • My digestive system got a little funky for my first week or two back on plan. I think it's just your body trying to adjust to the increased fiber in particular, more than anything else. I'd be hesitant to tell you you're overdoing the veggies though, keep eating them! The ones you mention eating specifically - cabbage, beans, broccoli - well that's like the trifecta of gassy veg/legumes, isn't it? All you need to add are onions and brussels sprouts and you might as well just float away!

With the beans in particular what might help is to rinse them particularly well after cooking them (or after draining them if you're using canned). A lot of the gas-causing starchy compounds can be washed away once they're cooked.
  • Thanks! I've been draing and rinsing my canned beans before I add them to my soup. I like adding red kidney beans and garbanzos. I am good about adding in their points I feel better today; I ate some bread last night, and I think that helped a lot! I like eating veggies anyway, because I have IBS and it helps, but I think my body needed to adjust. Thanks for the tips!
  • How about taking beano? It's natural and it works.
  • i had a similar problem. i felt REALLY crappy on days i ate a lot of veggies (aren't they supposed to make me feel good?!) haha but yeah i bought some beano and have not even used it yet... of course when i have the ingredients to rectify the situation it happens no more right? of course the probably just means my body adjusted and i'm sure your's will to!! it's prob just getting used to a new way of eating/digesting. good luck!
