What do you sprinkle your popcorn with??

Hi

I love flavored popcorn, but I'm running out of ideas!!! :?:

Thanks!

MissAlyss 01-04-2008 11:20 PM

oooh i LOOOOOOOVE popcorn.. bordering on obsession, really. haha! I like to put cajun seasoning (watch it tho, high in sodium), or parmesean cheese, or a little bit of garlic powder. A friend of mine uses some sort of natural yeast, because it gives it a buttery taste.. not sure which kind it is though, maybe I can find out. A big popcorn helper lately has been the I can't believe it's not butter spray - pretty low cal and really peps up the taste for me. From one popcorn lover to another - good luck finding a new taste!!

I think there are seasonings called Mr. Kernels or something like that. I just use buttery flavoring by Jiffy Pop.

Thanks!
I'll try the garlic powder, sounds great!

We use Lawrys Seasoning salt.

jtammy 01-13-2008 04:19 PM

I use a little splenda and cinnamon.

What a helpful thread ^^ I was just talking with the fiance the other day that I'd like to snack on some popcorn but didn't know of many healthier seasonings, and eating it plain is just not my style.

I'm DEFINITELY going to try that splenda & cinnamon! :hun:

kelijpa 01-21-2008 09:23 AM

I had splenda and cinnamon on mine last night it was good but a little powdery, you know like how powdered sugar makes you cough sometimes, so I'm thinking if I spritzed it with the fake butter spray 1st it would stick to the corn a little better, it was really good though.

I have some Mrs. Dash's, too. I never really used that until a stew recipe called for it. I can't believe how good it is and all natural, they have a bunch of different flavors, too. I'm going to pick up some more when I go to the grocery today. I bet it would be good on a baked potato, too.

I know this is going to sound weird, but I dip mine in barbeque sauce. The Budweiser sauces are the lowest I've found, only 1 pt per serving, and dipping each piece makes eating it take longer and is really good. HTH :)

Spicy Steak Grill Seasoning - mine is Montreals' brand, but I'm sure there are lots. I put that stuff on EVERYTHING.

frazali 02-26-2009 01:35 PM

I use Kernel Seasons - it comes in like 14 flavors. My favorite is the white cheddar. Aside from being sold online, you can find it at Target.

annie175 02-26-2009 01:50 PM

I sprinkle on crushed red peppers.

Petunia418 02-26-2009 01:52 PM

I either buy light kettle corn or I sprinkle it with white cheddar seasoning... mmmm!!!

alyandbra3 02-26-2009 02:26 PM

I spray my popcorn with Pam Cooking Spray before shaking any seasonings on. We are popcorn fanatics in my house, so always looking for new ideas to change things up.

FatGirlTale 07-01-2009 10:45 PM

Nutritional yeast. It's kind of cheesy tasting and chocked full of B12.

Two teaspoons is 0 points.

mattraces5 08-14-2009 11:55 AM

FatGirlTale, What the heck is nutritional yeast and where can you get it? I'll try anything once!

candy 08-18-2009 02:09 PM

I tried the cinnamon and splenda...although i had a hard time with the toppings sticking to the popcorn...it was DELICIOUS!!!

MugCanDoIt 09-18-2009 10:20 AM

I tried Nutritional Yeast on popcorn last night and it DID taste cheesey! I love the smell of that stuff in the can! Yum

Want2BeThin 09-25-2009 11:27 AM

Somtimes to kick it up a notch I sprinkle some ground black pepper on it. No calories and it tastes good.

Wonderful tips, thank you. Where do you find "Nutritional Yeast"? I'm a bread maker and don't recall seeing it with the other yeast products.

kelly315 09-28-2009 03:57 PM

Salt, salt, salt. As long as you drink plenty of water, it's not as bad for you as everybody says. And it always cures me of my salt craving. Mmm- I think I'm going to have to munch some popcorn today.

Kernel Seasons White Cheddar-says 0 points according to my WW calculator for 1 T but I still count it as 1, not sure if that's right or not.

Jaimie 01-18-2010 12:02 AM

I like experimenting, so I usually pop mine from kernels so it is actually plain. In the past I've done and enjoyed:

garlic parmesean
garlic dill
mrs.dash original
cinnamon and equal/splenda
seasoning salt
garlic pepper
sea salt and pepper
lemon pepper garlic
carribean jerk
mediterranean blend with sea salt [by mccormack]

pretty much anything in my spice cabinet is fair game. I've even done a spray of olive oil with a little lemon juice, parmesean and garlic.

Then if I do ready-pop, I do the 94% Smart Pop Kettle Corn

Hope those give a few ideas :)

Girly2010 01-18-2010 12:18 AM

Oh garlic Parmesean sounds delicious. Gonna have to try that one for sure

Gelene 01-18-2010 12:19 AM

Nutritional Yeast is also called brewers yeast and I get mine in the bulk at my local health food store. It is REALLY good on popcorn and FYI helps breast feeding moms produce more milk :) That is what I started using it for and loved it on popcorn and also sprinkled on toast.
