Question A question about dairy servings.....

I think I already know the answer and I feel really silly asking but I just want to make sure: does soy milk count as a dairy product?

Hi Shari

In my book - NO, soy does not count as a dairy product! It's the sort of Anti-Dairy, but can be replaced as milk in certain things.

IF it is enriched with Vit. D (like milk) then you could count it as dairy if you are a total non-dairy consumer. BUT, if you eat or drink other dairy products (milk, yoghurt, cheese) then soy milk would be considered (to me) under the protein (meat, beans) category.

Just my two eurocents

Yes the change came with the change in December 2006. The current standards as 8 oz of soy milk that is enriched with calcium as 1 dairy serving.
