Default Questioning my points allotment

Hello all!

I have a question about my points allowance. I have been using "old" WW printed material from when I joined several years ago. According to that, I should be consuming between 30 to 35 points per day. I post on another forum here where quite a few folks are counting calories. In one, someone mentioned a point equaling roughly 50 calories.

I decided to check out a site similar to Fitday, and when I entered my info, it stated that I was allowed 2199 caolries per day. That's just about 44 points per day...which seems like a lot to me! So...I then went to the WW online site and entered my info there (same weight/activity level) and was given 35 points (again, same as I thought) as my daily allowance.

So my question is this: is it the fat being figured into the WW formula that is causing this discrepancy in calories/points? That would make sense...points are lower because fat grams are figured in whereas calories are just calories, not figuring on the fat grams.

I love the points system, but was kind of looking for a way to cut down on all the math ! I thought if the calories and points corelated, or were at least close, then I could just track calories everyday...but it doesn't appear that will work for me. 9 points is a HUGE difference each day!!

Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions!

Cris

I did WW and i did great on it, but i too found it was a little more involved than just counting calories. So this time around i just opted to count the calories. I like it better, as far as the math goes, but i do miss the weekly weigh in. Although, the weigh ins got on my nerves at times because if i gained even a pound they would give me this look, like, "better luck next week, if you stay on plan maybe". It is a battle of averages with the scale, to me. I can weigh 4 pounds lighter one day and 3 pounds heavier the next day, so i dont like depending on ONE day a week to judge my progress, but still the accountability of going there once a week was good for me. Geeze, what a rambler i am.
Anyway, if you get tired of the points, just switch to calories. Or just try calories for a week and see which one works best for you right now.

I also have done weighwatchers and I still use it at times to keep myself on track. It is a great program but it is a pain trying to find your food calculator or Complete Food Book (I was always losing both) But the reason there is such a big difference is because WW factors in fat grams AND fiber grams. You get a lower points with the higher the fiber content and a higher points with the higher the fat content. So yes it does get a bit confusing but if you are subscribed to to the online program you can just use the point tracker. But the online progam is a bit rich for my budget when you can do it for free with Fitday.

Thank you, you have just answered what I was thinking of. I wonder trying to find how many cals in a point. Mainy to work out how many points I do on the dreadmill. Now I can have a beer tonite ( or maybe 2 lol) as for the Ww program I would never change to anything else, I know mine back to front.
I also use www.Journaltosuccess.com to trake points, exercise, etc but I will look into fitday later.
Got to run, thank you for the info.
BE GOOD
