Default Water Question

I am on the 123 Succes program. My WW leader includes seltzers (which I love) as one of the things that can be used in the water category. My daughter's leader says that anything carbonated is not allowed.

Can someone set me straight? Thank you.

I'm not a leader, but I did work as a WW receptionist/weigher for a while.

In our area, seltzer can be counted as water so long as it is just carbonated water & has no caffeine. A little flavoring is o.k. so long as it doesn't add calories to the water. The key is no caffeine. Caffeine dehydrates you.

What I have been drinking in place of water is seltzer that has 2 cal., no caffiene and no sugar. I am assuming that this would be OK????

Default seltzer, flavored water, even coffee is fine

Seltzer is perfectly ok. (even if it's got a few calories.) If you read the material carefully, it even says, one of your milks, juices, and one other beverage can count toward the 6 waters a day. So, don't sweat the small stuff.

Basically, you shouldn't use caffeinated drinks (yes, it's dehydrating) to satisfy the water requirement -- herbal teas, decaf coffee, are fine, as is the occasional soda.

I work as a Leader -- have been one for 3 years. Sometimes, when a water just isn't going to do it for you, an uncaffeinated soda will do the trick. You need a flavor burst sometimes, and not just a big glass of water, and it's the hydration we're after. Enjoy your seltzer!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I have been using seltzers for my water, because I just can't drink water in the quantities that are required. I do supplement my 'seltzer' intake at meal time with ice water, but that's about the only time that I can drink just plain water.

I will let my daughter know. She is from a small town on the prairies, so the misinformation that she was given may be a result of location. Thank you, again.
