Default How are you hydrating?

Water water water. Oh my goodness. I feel like I'm swimming when I get all the water in that I'm supposed to a day.

I found a great system for making sure you get at least 8- 8 oz glasses a day. It's called the Rule of 2.
Quote:
Follow the Rule of 2’s

Drink 2 of these 16 ounce jugs of water before 2:00 pm and drink 2 after 2:00 pm. By following this rule of 2’s, you will be getting your recommended amount of water (64 oz.) needed each day.
Of course, they want you to use their drinking bottles, but I just use a 16 oz cup or a regular bottle of water.

(Psst....also check out the Portion Plate on their site. It's nifty! )

I think that rule of 2 is clever, and like you said any 16 ounce glass is going to work. For the most part I have no problem getting in my water. I have several 1 liter bottles taht I refill throughout the day. I usually drink 2 and often drink 3. So that is what 64 or 96 ounces a day? WW recommends 6 eight ounce glasses right? That's only 48. But maybe it's 8 eight ounce glasses, I forget.

I also try to avoid caffiene, that way if I am short on water I can count any decafe thing as up to half of my "water".

I recently bought 2 big nalgene bottles (1L or 32 oz size) and I fill these up every night and put them in the fridge so they are nice and cold for the next day. I sip away at them all day and that's how I've been getting my water. I found I was spending way too much money on bottled water and it was just more stuff to put in the recycling bin. Also these bottles are hard plastic and are supposed to be unbreakable and so far haven't leaked.

For those of you who are reusing plastic bottles either hard or soft plastic please make sure that you wash them daily. There was a study done at a gym where they were testing people's water bottles and you wouldn't believe the bacteria levels of bottles that hadn't been washed. You would think that because it is water you don't have to wash them but you do!

Hi Jen how's it going?

Yeah I have 6 bottles I reuse, so I have extras while others are in the dishwasher. But I have heard you also shouldn't us ethem b/c the plastic breaks down in the heat of washing them and it can cause cancer. But I kind of heard that through the grapevine so not sure how true it is. Has anyone else heard that?

I hand wash my plastic bottles and will put my glass bottles (reused Snapple bottles- love! Snapple diet iced tea!) in the dishwasher.

The Science teacher I co-taught with last year was vehemently opposed to reusing plastic water bottles (Nalgene and the kind designed to be washed and reused are fine). I followed her advice and got a big Rubbermaid kind that I run thru the dishwasher or hand wash thoroughly with a fair amount of dish soap.

With the sunshine, I am also getting ready to do homemade iced green tea (unsweetened) as a good anti-oxidant and a nice change of pace from water.

HMMMMM, maybe I will switch out my water bottles then. They get kind of gross so I toss them out after a while and buy more, but my kids share with me alot and I want to make sur etehy are safe for them, you know.

Sun tea sounds sooooo great right now. I am excited about the weather, it has been great! Of course it is supposed to be slushy, rainy and 40 here this weekend and next week.

I found that that washing the soft plastic water bottles made them looking kind of yucky and they seem to absorb the soap more so the water tasted bad too after they had been washed a few times. I don't know about the cancer thing but I wouldn't be surprised!

LOL so I am so paranoid I went and bought 3 one liter water bottles at walmart last night. They are similar to the nice ones you find in sporting goods stores, only walmart quality LOL, not as thick and heavy. But definatley not that soft stuff Evian bottls are made from. They were only like $2.97 each instead of $15 for the ones I saw at EMS and Dick's. I washed them and filled them and put them in the fridge so they are ready to go. I am thinking since 2 liters of straight water fullfills my water needs, I may use the third one from now on for decaf, unsweetened green tea. That would give me a little change up at the end of the day
