Default Feisty & Sexy 50-60 year olds #70

G'day all,

I cannot remember too much as to who wrote what on our last thread I do remember however the fantastic news of Slavika and how incredibly busy Ann is and that her dh is getting better after the extraction of a number of teeth.

My week came to a bit of a stop on Wednesday, I got an horrendous cold, the worst I have felt for a while. I am getting much better again but have very little energy. DH and I did a bit of grocery shopping and for the rest of the day we will just potter around and rest when we feel like it.
It is going to be 38 degrees tomorrow, the kids will come down and go for a swim at the beach. I will probably stay home with Matilda in the cool and then we will have a bbq dinner.

My very best NEWS till last, our daughter is expecting her first baby she will be due August 12. DH is a bit strange about it, he is very happy for her but somehow he finds it a bit difficult to come to terms with the fact that his little girl, the one who has had him wrapped around her little finger since she was born, is to be a mother herself!
They are already positive it is a girl!
When they find out they will let us know but won't name her until they have actually seen her.

I am bidding on 2 things on Ebay at the moment, a camera lens and a 'Creative Zen' (a bit like an Ipod). I bought some software on Ebay last week. If I am successful with these 2 bids I will HAVE to barr myself from that site....too many bargains

Cheers
Maria

Thumbs up Congratulations Grandma..

Maria What great news!! Another baby, it can't get any better. Just think, Matilda will be tottering around and you will have another new born. It will be so nice to have your grandchildren be so close in age. I am happy for you.

I am pasting the other thread here that were started yesterday. Confused me. Peggy Love ya! You are such a busy women. Give me your energy Please
News comes and goes but friends never end. Its not about the best software. Its about helping who you can

Peggy Started it
Hi All,

The old thread was long so I thought I would start a new one. Usually when I do this someone else does too.

Can't believe that it has been so long since I was here. Been busy with lots of things. Last weekend was our WW weekend in Brown County. It was lots of fun. We stopped at the outlet mall on the way in. Bought a bag full. Have to be careful how much I buy cause I am in a car with 3 others. Not much space. It was really cold and windy there. We went to the house and got settled in and had dinner. Take turns bringing it. That night we had a scavenger hunt. Have to brag that my team won. We all were creative with the items. If you didn't have it we sort of made it up. Ex-for Beano I took a lima bean and put in a paper and drew a circle around it. Sat we spent in town at all the cute little stores. They were sort of expecting an ice storm so after lunch we went back to the house and hoped that we wouldn't get stuck there. It didn't turn out to be much of anything. I bought one of those resin faces that you put on a tree. I am going to put it on the big oak out front.

When I came home there was a tree ready to be decorated. Dh and sons went somewhere and cut one down. It seems like it is way too early to be inside so it will probably be dropping lots of needles by Christmas. Last year I just used this little tiny one that I have. Now the thing is looking at me to decorate it. I only have the lights on it so far.

I managed to get out yesterday and spent the day shopping. Got a lot of it finished but still have lots to go. On my side of the family this year they decided not to draw names but to have one of those stealing gift things. I have to buy something for a woman and dh has to get one for a man. I am still trying to find the "perfect" thing. Thought I saw it a craft show the other day. A lady had knitted scarves that were gorgeous. She hand dyed the yarn and had hand dyed ribbons in it. They were really nice but went between $100-#150. The one I liked was the most expensive.

Grandson is getting really cute. He crawls all over the place and laughs and can say dada and occasionally mama. He is getting rounder rather than taller. He pulls himself up and wants to go. They will be busy childproofing their house. Did I ever say that they are not great housekeepers? They will lose him in the laundry.

Slavika hurray for the 100 days being behind you. I had the greatest laugh at the saga of the bathing suits and the celery dress. Good thing Trudy knows where the one suit came from. That was too funny.

Lily liked your site. You and Maria are the clever computer people.

Karen hope you are feeling better.

Gloria-my dh loves that Paula Dean. He and the dog watch her everyday. Would love to visit her place. She makes the best things and her sons are too bad to look at either. They like Giada or whatever her name is also.

Maria have you tried out the camper yet?

Hi Ann, Glenda and Trudy.

I am working today and my lady is coming early to pick up her painted things. It is supposed to snow and accumulate. Horrors-the city will be paralyzed later. You Canada gals would get a laugh at the people here when there is just a dusting of snow. They totally freak out.

See you all later,

Smile Hi all..
Peggy Nice to see you again. How old is your Grandson now? Once they start crawling, they can get into everything. Sounds like you have been busy. Those scarves are expensive, but I bet they are lovely. Anything hadmade is so nice to have. I think back to when I was a teenager, my Mother made all my clothes, even coats, and she knitted all the sweaters. I couldn't wait until I had my first part-time job so I could actually wear something bought. Now I think differently.

I am taking a break from wrapping gifts. By the time I sorted out the Christmas gifts from the Birthday gifts for my , and went through the "new baby" gifts to see what I would give for Christmas if he/she arrives early, I was pooped. I managed to do all the adult gifts, but will have to tackle the other ones when I rest up. My DH is expecting din dins tonight, he might have to make do with left-overs..

I have to tell you all about a doll that I bought earlier at Toys R Us for $49.99. Yesterday, there was an ad for SuperStore (big box store, not as good as Costco) and the Baby Anabelle doll was selling for $19.98. Of course I hustled over to Toys R Us for the price adjustment... $31.49. How can these stores charge such different prices? I can see a difference of a few dollars, but this was ridiculous.

We are baby-sitting tonight. I had better get a few more gifts wrapped. Bye for now..

Slavika: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is such good News! So happy to hear it!

Peggy: Sounds like you had fun in Brown County.
That Scarf Sounds Beautiful! But that is a little much. Sure sounds pretty tho!

Trudy: That is a huge price difference. They did give you some money back I hope. Thats crazy to charge that big of a difference! I see difference all the time but not that huge!

Been a boring week during work. Keep forgetting my Laptop Off to watch some TV.

Maria, what exciting news. By the time that little one is born you will be an old hand at this grandmother thing. Congratulations to you and Alan and of course to the soon to be parents.

G'day all,

We have certainly done that before starting a thread at the same time Peggy Thank you for 'cutting & pasting' the posts Lily
Your weekend sounded a lot of fun Peggy but very cold , hard for me to comprehend all this talk of snow storms etc.
Little Peyton sounds very cute, his 'girlfriend' Matilda is very close to crawling but not quite. We went to the beach again yesterday afternoon, she still is not estatic about the whole experience but she is getting better. Matilda is quite a chatterbox, cannot understand what she says but she 'chats' all the time
We haven't had a chance to get away for the weekend in our camper trailer yet. We doubt if we now will be able to before Christmas. We will go to the Victorian High Country in January. It is a part of Australia where you can ski in the winter, it is magnificent country and one of the few places that will not be too hot in January.

Trudy that is a ridiculous discrepancy in price. It really should be illegal to do that sort of thing. It is not as though the dolls 'fell of the back of a truck' for the other store. Good for you to get the price adjusted.

I was successful with bidding for the Creative Zen on Ebay but the lens is now way beyond what I want to pay...$1200
One can get some bargains on Ebay but you certainly have to do your homework before bidding. The Canon lens retails for about $1399, with a bit of shopping around and paying cash you could just about buy a brand new one for the same price as the price that is now the highest bid, still 2 more days to go, be interesting for how much it will eventually sell.

Won't be moving far from the airconditioner today, it is going to be 39 degrees

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Cheers
Maria

this is supposed to be my weigh-in day, but couldn't get there as we had rehearsal for our show on Monday. Had to go down early to help with the set-up of the stage and chairs, etc. And then we had a practice. And it was very scary. We one tomorrow afternoon and then Monday a.m. and that night is the show. I sure hope we improve before then.

The big problem is that they don't watch me. We don't have an accompanist, and I have to play while they are learning. Now we have taped all the accompaniments, so I can direct, and they are still in the habit of not having to look. Once I just went and sat down, and some of them didn't even know that I wasn't there. A few kept looking to see if I was going to 'wave' but most just keep right on going.

But- we'll just keep doing our best, and come Monday night it will go one way or the other. They have always come through, and I have to believe that they will again.

Maria: How lovely, another new grandbaby. You are going to be all in practice when this one arrives. Isn't it funny how Dad's and daughters have this bond, and Dad has a hard time with daughter really growing up and becoming a Mama herself. My DH had a time with his youngest son, watching him change the baby. Just couldn't believe that was his 'baby'. Hope by now your cold is better and you are rested.

Last night DH and I went to the DIXIE STAMPEDE over in Orlando with a group from our church. It is their Christmas show. It was really a lot of fun, and poor DH managed to 'gum' his meal fairly well. He sure will be glad when he gets his teeth.

All my news for now. Hi to everyone, and I hope your weekend is going well. Enjoying the snow, all you Northern gals.: That is why we are in Florida.

Got to get my cards finished This weekend, and once the show is over I can relax. Nite nite. Ann

G'day all,

Haven't moved far from the house today other than going to a little market at our local highschool early this morning.
I bought some lovely berries and made pancakes, a dollop of low fat vanilla yoghurt and the berries, what a nice treat!
I also got a second hand book which is quite intriguing, all in all a nice quite day....not like you Ann I am sure your show will go off well on Monday. All this nervous tension will probably show that you have lost some weight

Unfortunately our daughter lives 10 hour drive away from us (Melbourne) so I won't be seeing her as much as I would like to. We do talk on the phone just about every day and of course I will be visiting her a few times over the next 9 months and then when the baby is born

I am going to go back to my book, good luck tomorrow Ann, would love to be a fly on the wall, I bet you have everyone very well organised!

Cheers
Maria

Good Sunday Evening!

Just finished writing the Christmas cards and that is a good chore done. This mean that except for some Holiday baking I am finished....unless you look at the dust around the house. I will get to the dust this week as DH has 3 Dr. appointments to keep and I will be able to get the work done easier without him under foot. We had a snow storm on Friday and were plowed by Sat. AM.....I hope we will have an easier Winter as last year plowing cost us $500.

Got a call from DD#2 who told us her best friend's husband has just been diagnosed with Lymphatic Cancer. He had stomach pains and went to the hospital and was operated on to remove a mass. He will now start on Chemo and whatever else is necessary. He is 42 and his wife had Uterine Cancer 10 years ago when she was pregnant with their second child. She had the baby delivered C-Section early and although he was very small he is fine now. They just adopted a little Korean baby last year. I hope they have caught it early and all will go well for him. Not a good time of year for this kind of news.

Maria....Congratulations on the news of a new baby in your family. You will be an old hand at babies by the time this one arrives. Yes, it is different when it is your daughter that is having the baby.

Ann...I am sure your music program will go over well. Don't they say that a bad rehearsal makes for a good opening night.

Trudy...Glad you could get that adjustment on the doll. Until you see something like this you don't realize just how much merchandise is marked up.

Peggy...That scarf sounds wonderful but it would have to be for that price.

Lily...Thanks for cutting & pasting the thread. It helps when one can not remember what was said just a moment ago.

Slavika....You must be getting close to your Maui departure. Have a great time.

Glenda, Karen....Hope all is well with you.

Gloria

Gloria what do you mean by 'ploughing'?????

That is very sad news from your DD#2, no cancer is great to have but lymphatic cancer is not good
The treatment for cancer is constantly improving so things may turn out fine.
As you said, not the sort of news you want especially at this time of the year.

Gloria: So sorry to hear About Your DD's Best friend's DH. I sure hope they caught it in time. No its not a good time of year to hear it. Keep us posted. I will pray for them.

Maria: She said "plowing" We need to do it here when there is alot of Snow. Trucks come out with big Shovels and Plow the snow away from the roads so you can drive on them. Course the plows Bury your car in Snow and you have to dig it Out.

Was really sick this weekend. Had a Sinus thing going on. Never happens to me til now. I slept in this Morning until 9:00. Thats unheard of for me. I am better now. But it sure wiped me out.

Quick reply.
Maria, Lily is correct it is plowing but in our case, because of DH's heart problem he cannot clear the driveway so we hire a private snow plow to do it.
The drive is over 150 ft. long and is double wide thus it is a big job when we get a lot of snow. This young man we hire is a fireman and does this on his off hours. Hope this clears it up. Gloria

Hi Everybody: Gloria, how sad for that young man to get cancer. My heart just aches for them. Lymphoma cancer is actually the 5th most common cancer. I wonder if he was experiencing night sweats prior to being diagnosed. He is young, and with treatment I'm hopeful he will beat this. I know what this couple is going to go through and I hope that they are fortunate, like we were with support from good friends and family. We did meet a couple of people at Cancer Care with Lymphoma. That is one cancer that you sure can't compare one person to another. I will say a prayer for him and his family. Lily, sorry you were sick. I sometimes get that sinus thing happening and it just feels like your whole face is heavy and you just feel really awlful. Ann I bet you will be happy when all your "duties" are done with and you can just relax for a bit before you take on another "job". Peggy it sounds like your WW weekend with the girls was great fun and you did manage to do some shopping. Our little Princess, who is not so little anymore spent a couple of hours with us in the evening. She wanted to "discuss Maui". I have told that child every single thing I can think of. I even went on the internet to find new things to tell her. She is so excited. We leave for Maui on Jan. 8th and they come on Feb. 8th so she has a bit of wait. I told her in Hawaiian a older person, like an aunt or grandparent is called "Kupuna" (kah poo nah) or especially for an grandmother it's "kupunawahine" so she practiced that all evening. Bye for now, must get a couple of things done around here. I'm seeing the doctor at 2:15, just a sort once over and to discuss getting enough medication to last me two months while we are away.

Smile Hi..

Lily I hope you are feeling better today. I hate sinus problems, it feels like your face is going to fall off.
Maria to think you don't know about plowing the streets. It must be nice living in paradise. Snow doesn't usually fall straight down, so if there is a wind and lots of drifting, 10" of snow in one place can be drifted into 2 or 3 feet in places. We could never live here if the city didn't come out and plow the streets. Our driveway is our own responsibility.
Gloria your driveway is exactly double of mine. DH won't be able to do it himself forever, I am always trying to talk him into hiring a service for the winter. But... he is so fussy, I don't think anyone would do it the way he wants it to be done. Did your DH have trouble letting someone else do it?

I had to go downtown and return a sweater that I bought myself. It was a lovely cashmere charcoal sweater. I really did like it, and when I was putting into my drawer, I found that I had 3 other charcoal sweaters and 2 black ones sitting there. They were all cashmere and with the same type of neckline... I like cowl necks. I am in such a color rut. Black, charcoal, grey for winter and denim and white for summer. I need serious help... On my way home I stopped by Slavika's place to return a pair of earings and there she was, looking great in a pink caftan. Last Friday we went out for lunch, and to my horror, I discovered that I didn't put any earings on. Slavika borrowed me a pair of hers. I feel totally undressed without my earings. I am not so sure I should have shared my idiosyncrasies with you gals.. now you know I am totally nuts. I guess we make a good pair, ....need I remind you all of the "bathing suit" incident??

Talk to you later..

Oh boy I can see that Trudy will NEVER let me forget "the bathing suit incident". hee hee That reminds me of the year that Trudy and I made Christmas Tree skirts and all the gals on the board thought we should make them one too. They reminded us almost daily that they had not received there's. We sewed labels on the back side of the skirts and signed them and put the date on when we made them and this year when I put the skirt under my tree I couldn't believe it was in 2000. Lily, I'm sure will remember. All went well at my doctor's. He reminded me to keep the prescriptions in the original containers when we travel in case customs should check, they will know that it is legal drugs. He also reminded me to keep the prescriptions with me in my carry on or purse, but I knew that.
