Thursday Chatters for April
It's April and isn't that great!
For anyone new here.....Welcome, we are so glad you stopped here. Please stay. We all follow Weight Watchers. Not everyone can attend meetings but we agree with their idea of eating healthy to have a healthy lifestyle. It's not going to all come off in one week. This is a lifetime thing. :):) Even if you do not weigh-in on Thursdays, you can stay. We don't throw anyone out for that. :o This will be a good weekend for me. We're going to visit our friends who live in the Piney Woods of Texas. The Dogwood trees are blooming and we've been invited to come see them. Our friends are very health-conscious and eat better than I do sometime. What plans do y'all have????? Does anyone have a new recipe to share? Let's have another active thread this month. We've been talking a lot. :) Tina :flow1: |
No big plans for the weekend. Well, I take that back. My 2nd cousin and her husband will be here from South Carolina. We're going to her parents' house to visit tomorrow afternoon/evening. I have about a zillion cousins, so there should be some people that I don't see very often.
I know I'll grade papers sometime over the weekend. Fun! I just gave Kramer a bath. Boy did he need it!! Tina, your visit sounds nice. |
Hi,
Hope everyone has had a good day. It's been pretty good for me. I'm pretty upset about the Pope. It just breaks my heart but know he will go straight to Heaven. No big plans for the weekend. I was going to go to my brother's house but he is sick and mom and dad aren't coming up either. I'll see my brother next weekend so it's not to long away. Ya'll know how I feel about him! I think he walks on water...... Just a little partial. Tina, thanks for starting us off this month. We have been pretty chatty this month. It's great! Have fun on your trip!!! Tammy, don't grade too many papers! :) I weigh in tomorrow. I'm excitedf to see how I do even if it's just a tenth of a pound. Susan |
Good morning ladies! Sorry I have been MIA this last week or so, I am dead on my feet from stress and work.
I am looking forward to a nice sunny month, even though it is snowing today. What we really need up here now is a good sized rain to wash all the winter muck away. Both of my boys are doing well and working hard at school and work. Dan got his first paycheck last night and he was happy to go to the video store and buy some stuff that he has been drooling over. Mike is preparing for the end of his first cooking term, and has to try out the recipe he will be making for the class at home here. He made great squash soup here last week. Now if only I could get him inspired by some of the low cal recipes. ;) Have a good weekend everybody. I won't be gone so long this time. Oh by the way I finally got the tracker to work. I think it might have something to do with the server move for 3FC last week. I kind of put a bug in their ear that my computer kept telling me that programs were trying to install when I atempted it on the old server. |
Susan, I was a bit teary eyed about the Pope myself. Tim and I watched quite a bit of TV this afternoon, before and after he passed on. Tim was getting a bit emotional himself. He takes after me I think.
I graded handwriting papers. They were doing the uppercase letter C in cursive. Most of them did very well. Gave lots of smiley faces. Also graded a Social Studies vocabulary quiz. There were 8 words and 8 clues. They had to match them up. I even let them use the glossary in the back of their book if they needed it. Most of them received A's and B's. I had one boy who missed every single thing. I almost cried. Mimi, I giggled when I read about Dan and his paycheck. It sounds like Tim did when he started at Arby's last year. Too funny. Now he is depositing at least half of each check in his savings account. College cash! Now if you would invite all of us over, Mike could show us all just what kind of a cook he is. Good for you on getting the tracker to work!! Mine is very steady. Like it has only moved once since I put the thing on here. Rained all morning, but Tim and I went to order his tux for the prom. The prom is May 7, and I told him that I thought that maybe he should do that. He and his friend Matt are going to Bluffton University on Thursday night. That's where they go to band camp in the summer. They go up Thurs. night, meet with college kids, stay all night, get up and Friday, take a tour and attend some classes. Even if he doesn't go there, it will be a good experience for him. Naturally, I'll worry about him being on the road until he calls to say they are there. lol |
Okay, I just wrote a long message and it's not here!
Anyway, I'm baaaack. We had such a nice trip. Tammy, I hope you enjoyed your day with your relatives. I can't believe it's time to order Tim's tux. Mimi, I'm glad you got your tracker working. Now if I could get mine to move. Susan, I am sorry you didn't get to see your brother. Yes, it's too bad about the pope. He reminded me of a grandfather. He did a lot of good in the world. The little town where we were had a Dogwood Festival today. There were little floats, artsy/crafty boothes and food. They had shrimp on a stick, bloomin onions, fried alligator, and funnel cakes. We all shared a funnel cake and then went to Subway for a healthy lunch.  I'm glad to be home. :flow1: |
Hi,
I've watched tv all day long and watched everything on the Pope. I went to WW this morning and even checked the web on my phone to see if there was a report on him. I really respect and admire him. It's been a very emotional day for me. I grieve for the Pope, but am so glad that he did not suffer. In case you haven't figured it out, I'm Catholic. I talked to my brother several times today because I've done my share of crying. I went out to the cemetery and there had been a funeral in the baby section. I started crying again. I cried when I was visiting Seamus, which I always do. Then cried alot when the Pope died. I am just wiped out now. I think I'll be heading to bed very soon. Sorry for rambling...... Tammy, I give lots of smiley faces too. It sounds like you got a lot done. Mimi, it's great to hear from you. You have been working ALOT!!!! You must be exhausted. I was up .8 pounds this week. That's what I get for cheating some and not drinking my water. It will be off next week. |
Another Monday and a new week. Isn't that great! Let's think positive thoughts about this week's weight loss, I am. :)
This week, I'm going to drink all my water and exercise, if only for 10 min. at a time. Tammy, I hope you got all those papers graded before today. Susan, how long will you be working? I thought the lady was coming back before now. Mimi, I just can't imagine you still have snow. That's something else. Sis, when do you have another weekend off? Soon, I hope. Christine, we haven't heard from you in ages. I hope that doesn't mean you aren't weighing-in anymore. Tina637, have you gone back to work and have left us? Where is everyone else??????? Please post here!!!!!!! :^: :^: :^: :flow1: |
Howdy All,
It's beautiful here. I'm coughing AGAIN!!! UGH!!!! I hate allergies. My last dose of antibiotics are now out of my system as of yesterday and I started coughing. I'm hoping that it doesn't go any further. Tina, I thought I would be finished subbing too. I know I will be there at least until the end of the week. I'm not sure what the problem is but I hadn't really planned on subbing full time. I agree where is everyone? We miss you!!!! Please come back!! Susan |
Hope everyone is doing good today! We just had a bad storm. Pat just called and is sitting on the highway in traffic under black clouds. Who knows when he will be home now. Just talked to the dr. she is calling in more antibiotics and steriods. Then if I get sick again, I'll have a CT scan of my sinuses. I'm coughing so much my head hurts. Enough whining........ Off to the store.
|
I'm coughing too now. Probably from your messages Susan!! Ha!
It was beautiful here today. I took most of the 2nd graders to the park behind the school this afternoon. They loved it! Me too! Kramer and I sat on the glider on the porch tonight. Read the paper and glanced through some magazines. did I open up my school bag to grade anything? Nope! The papers will wait, right? |
Good morning,
Tammy, I can just picture you and Kramer in your swing. :) What a neat way to unwind. Larry repaired my hammock frame, so yesterday I got to use it. This is the best time of year for hammocks. It's still cool enough and no mosquitos! Susan, did Pat get home safely? I saw that y'all had bad weather all night. What's going on with everyone??????????? I sneaked a peak at the scales this morning and was down a whole 1/2 pound. Hey, I'll take anything. I didn't get an Easter dress this year because of my fat hips. I intend to buy one very, very soon. :D So, I'd better get off here and onto the treadmill. Has anyone made the 0 pt. veggie soup lately? I made some Monday afternoon and had it for lunch yesterday. It's amazing how it fills you up without any pts. Yeah! :flow1: |
howdy,
I too love sitting in my porch and gazebo. I can sit out there forever and swing away all the troubles of the world and just unwind. It's great. I have some friendly advice NEVER take steriods late in the evening. You will be awake all night long and have some rather interesting dreams. :) You can say "I learned my lesson." Tina, Pat did get home. We had a very heavy storm and it was in and out of here within about 30 mintues. We got 1/2 of rain. I love that soup but never eat it all. I wonder if you can freeze it? Good job on being down. Tammy, papers will always wait and wait on you! You needed to relax with Kramer. I told my brother and his fiancee that I couldn't talk to them on the phone anymore because I got sick after I talked to them (they both were sick last week). Where is everyone at? Susan |
Hi everyone. Sorry again that its been so long. I try to get online at least once a week but haven't always been able to manage it. I hope everyone is doing well. I am getting this week end off so I am happy even though I have to use my vac to get it. Now that I am on my old job again I might get the wk end off now and then without having to use vac to do it. I managed .5 lb this week too Tina. Not sure how but I will take it too. :D Hope everyone has a super weekend . Take care.....Sis
|
Checking in to wish everyone a great Friday.
Drink that water!!!!! :flow1: |
Hey there,
Been drinking my fair share of the water. I wish it would get my fever down and junk out of my lungs. I'm so tired of feeling so bad it's been 3 weeks now and I hate it. Sorry, I'm just whnining a little. My subbing job finished up today (I have really enjoyed it). |
Well, Tim learned alot on his trip to Bluffton on Thursday and Friday. They had a get-together for all of the high school kids and college kids with games, pizza, and music. Then some of them went on back to the dorms. Tim and his host went back to the dorm, then those 2 and a few other guys went out on the campus and played tennis ball golf. Yes, you heard that right. They hit tennis balls around the campus with golf clubs. Remember, this is at night, like midnight!!! Tim said they got back to the dorm about 2:00. This really wasn't the kind of thing that I wanted him to learn. lol Bluffton only has about 1600 students. Tim said they even talked to the security police while they were golfing. Oh my!
He has decided against it though because the criminal justice dept. isn't as good as the other two schools he is looking at. His friend that went with him is interested in broadcast journalism, and that dept. isn't as good either. I'm hoping they both end up at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana. It's only an hour from here. Tina, the Dogwood festival sounds like fun. I love to look at craft items. I can't do crafts, so I like to see what others can do. I've been holding back from buying things lately though. I've started getting things together for a garage sale this summer. We are talking about moving to a smaller home in a couple years, so I thought I should be going through things now instead of waiting. Susan, I'm not sure of the inhaler that I was on a couple years ago that really kicked it out of me. I keep thinking alovair or something like that. It's a purple container, I do know that!! I had the ick from the end of November until February that time. That's the only thing that worked. Say something to your doctor about it. I highly recommend it. I'm glad you enjoyed the subbing. Any other long terms coming up? Maybe I'll take the rest of the year off, and you can sub for me!! |
Hi,
I hope everyone had a good weekend. I went over to the grocery store where they were having Cholesterol testing and got mine done. (I didn't do the whole fasting routine when they check the HDL & LDL.) I'm so happy to report that my number is 210!!!!!!! Four months ago, it was 230. I've been working hard and it's paid off. Now I wish I'd paid the extra money and had the whole thing done. Then, I could've sent the results to my new doctor. Now, I still have to go in and get tested. Oh well, now I know my number and I am sooooooo happy! 'Couldn't wait to tell y'all. Susan, I hope you are feeling better. How is everyone else doing? Tina :flow1: |
Tina, good for you on the cholesterol!!!! Woo Hoo!!
Susan, I think the inhaler was Advair not whatever I said in the other post. I hope you are getting better. Beautiful sunrise this morning! I got Tim out of bed to see it, and even he was impressed! Time to finish getting ready for school. I had 3 absent yesterday, so I felt like my room was almost empty. I only have 17 kids this year. Have a great day!! |
Good morning to all,
Tammy, I wish I'd seen that sunrise. And, wow I can't believe you have so few students this time. I'll bet that makes it easier on your. You haven't mentioned your principal in ages. (Ooops, maybe I shouldn't have said anything.:) ) I hope everything is quiet around school and that you are feeling pretty good. Is your fibro acting up much right now? Susan, my mother used that Advair that Tammy mentioned. It helped her once. Mimi, how are you girl? I hope your stresses have eased, as well as your workload. Sis, speaking of work, how's the new position going? How was your vacation? Did you just rest or do something fabulously outrageous?   Shadow, Tina637, Motts, Christine, Rosalita, and the list goes on and on.......we haven't heard from any of you in ages and we miss our group. It's a beautiful day here. I might just go outside to walk and leave the treadmill alone. :D :flow1: |
Tina; I hope that all those who aren't reporting in are just so busy with the beautiful spring they don't have time for the computer. I have been staying pretty busy myself.
Congratulations on the great cholesteral test that 20 points can make a big difference. Tammy; it sounds like you are feeling better, and wow 17 in your class, don't tell any Ontario teachers they would be packing up and moving to Ohio tomorrow. Susan; I am plastering my chest with cabbage leaves tonight to see if it helps with the asthma cough. I have a palliative care client who is getting his chest covered every night and believe me this last week he is better than he has been in months, but the spring and sunshine doesn't hurt. I will let you know if it helps, but keep taking your water and vitamins. We finally have some tulips poking their heads up and a few daffodils are blooming in my front garden. I have been having mild success in my dieting, but have had a couple of bad nights. I have to keep my mind on the long run results. I saw Supersize Me last night and, WOW, even though I think these guys who make documentaries can colour their product to look any way they like I was really surprised at the medical difference in his body before and after his month long battle with McD's I think about how they try drugs out on lab rats by feeding them mega doses and look for side effects. He really showed life threatening results in 28 days. If you have never seen it it's worth a look. I love the healthy choices that the fast food places are bringing in now. Martha's Vinyard salad at Arbies is my favourite. Well I am out of steam. Take care of yourself! Mimi |
Hey friends,
I would love to say that I'm enjoying my time off since my sub job ended Friday, but it's probably a good thing since I've felt so bad. I think I'm starting to feel a little better this evening after 3 weeks. Mimi, let me know if the cabbage leaves work! I need something. I love tulips but I never seem to have luck with them. Tina, your cholestral is a success if you can get it lower any number! :) I'm on meds to keep mine low and hope as I keep losing weight it will go down some more. It runs in my family. Tammy, wow 3 kids out. It's funny how just a few make a big difference. Hope you are feeling good. I got to meet my brother's fiancee this weekend and she is wonderful. You can look at them and see how happy they are! I'm thrilled!!! |
Tina, you would think that the small classes would be a blessing. They aren't. This year's 2nd graders are low academically and behavior problems. It hasn't been a good year. The principal is picking on other people this year. Finally leaving me alone.
I'll have to come back and say more later. Tim needs the computer. Boo hiss. |
Me again. Of my 17 students, 2 of them have learning disabilites. It is a success if I can get them to write their names. 2 of my boys have been kicked off of their busses more than once. It is the end of 2nd grade, and usually we have some students reading at 5th grade level or higher. Our highest just hit 3rd grade level. The man who volunteers to do math on the computers in the library once a week with all of the 2nd graders is totally frustrated. This is his 5th or 6th year working for me. This is the lowest group. We've been doing addition with trading (carrying) since October. Yesterday he had almost 10 kids who had no idea what they were supposed to do. We have 4 second grade classes. All with low number of students. Because of budget cuts, etc., they will be in 3 classes next year as 3rd graders. We've already voiced our opinions to the administration that it would be a big mistake with this group. BUT they are looking at the numbers, not the ability/behavior of the students. They say that they care about the kids, but this is proof that they don't.
I have good days and bad days with the fibromyalgia. Friday when I got home I went right to bed. I'm always exhausted by then. I really think it would be good for me to take 1/2 day off in the middle of the week to catch up after Mon. and Tues. I'm sure the doctor would write me a permission slip to do it. Tina, did you walk and not do the treadmill? I really need to get more walking in. The scales show that I'm up (that's why I hate to go to the weigh in thread), but the clotes are still fitting the same. Not sure what that's all about. I want to know about the cabbage leaves too. Mimi, I've never seen that Supersize Me, but I've heard plenty about it. Susan, glad you liked your future SIL. I like all of mine. I need to head for school. Rather head back to bed. |
Hi,
I went to weigh in this morning and was down 5 pounds. I'm now down 12.2 pounds. Still feel lousy but to a leaser degree now. So that is positive too, I'll be glad when I'm all clear. Tammy, administrators never think about what is REALLY best for kids (I know some years the kids are just so much lower and have such different needs) Tina, are you doing anything fun? How is your mom doing? Mimi, make sure that you stop and smell the flowers! Don't work too hard. |
Good for you Susan!! 5 pounds is awesome!!
Hope you get to feeling much better soon. |
Susan, that is fantastic!!!!!!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:
|
Is everyone ready for the weekend? I am.
I can stay in bed maybe until 7:30 and then have my hot tea brought to me. That's living. We don't have anything major going on. (We've worked in the yard for 2 weekends.) Our weather is great now. We seldom have this much nice weather. It either starts raining or getting very hot. Spring is usually a 2-week event. I'll probably spend some time in my hammock tomorrow. :o Everyone have a good one. And, post!!!!! :flow1: |
I just realized I had not posted in a couple of days. Well, I FINALLY feel better!!! I'm still coughing some but at least I'm better. I subbed yesterday and today. They wanted me to on Monday but I declined. I am on Wed. too.
Pat went to visit his family this weekend so I'm solo. It's funny because I have nothing planned nor nothing to really do. I guess I'll clean the house but it's not real messy so it won't take that long to do. I think I'll go to an annunal native plant sell tomorrow. I've always wanted to go but always miss it. I'm sure that I'll find something there that I'll want. Plus the weather is great here too!!! Tina, I'll take some of that tea too. The hammock sounds very relaxing. :) Tammy, how are you doing today? How much school is left? I now you are counting the days! Mimi, what's new with you? |
Hi gang! I'm doing ok. Glad that it's the weekend. We are going to a funeral for Bob's aunt tomorrow. She was 90 years old. She was such a sweetie.
Our last day of school is June 3. Yes, I'm looking forward to it!!!! Today at school, the supt. and principal met with the teachers whose contracts will not be renewed because of budget cuts. Sad. They have 2 year recall rights, and in the next couple of years, there should be some retirements. (I'm in 2 years!!!!) Now we have to wait and see what they are going to do with the rest of us. They will be changing the number of teachers at some grade levels, but they haven't said what yet. One of the teachers that was let go teaches 7-8 grade Science. I know of one teacher on the elementary staff who has experience with junior high science. Guess who? It hit me like a ton of bricks this afternoon when I realized that they could move me to the junior high. Oh my. If it happens, I'll just have to make the best of it. At least I would be with a decent principal. |
It was beautiful here today and I got out and checked out the damage from the winter. Everything is pretty much in order but sometime over the winter the shed key went missing and the rabbits ringed some of my rose bushes. I will cut them down to the ground and hope they will come up again. I bought some giant pansies for the 2 planters at the front.
I have been busy most evenings trying to clean up and get the house into shape in the event that I will have to put it up for sale. I should know within the next couple of months. Both boys are working hard at school and their jobs. It sure is quiet here Fri and Sat evening. I was hoping that maybe I could check out curves in the evening but they close at 7 on Fri and 1 on Sat. Rats. I have been trying the cabbage for 4 nights now and since my asthma comes and goes I can't be sure if it is helping, but I have slept right through the night for all 4 nights and that is very unusual for me. Enjoy your weekend everyone. |
Hello Old Friends--Not that you are old, but I am feeling that way. I'm ready to give dieting another try. I have decided WW is the way to go--It fits the way I live & eat. I tried Atkins (lost some weight) but found I missed eating fruit--not potatoes & bread, but fruit.
The nice thing is that you guys are still here & hopefully I'll be welcome to rejoin. You are much more faithful than I. I see Tina, Susan, Tammy, Sis. I have moved twice (2 different states) since I was here last, so went from WI to OH to IN. I was amazed that I remembered my password to sign in. -- Maybe I'm not so old after all. Thanks everyone for being here yet. Loodie :comp: |
Welcome back Loodie!!!!! We've missed you!!!
|
Welcome back Loodie!! :) Yep a lot of us are still here and going at it. I still have a LONG way to go but I will get there. I can say that at least I didn't gain it all back and I am still struggling along. Its a good thing to have all the support of these wonderful people here. :) You are most definately welcome here. :D Good luck to you and nice to see you back.... Sis :D
|
Loodie-
Welcome, welcome, welcome----back We are so happy to have you with us again. Yep, I'm still trying to lose. Instead, I gained some and have been trying to get rid of it. My doctor says age and hormones have a lot to do with it. That's real encouragement, isn't it. You've been movin' around a lot. Stay here with us and help all of us lose pounds. Tina :flow1: |
OK Loodie! Where in Indiana? Maybe we're closer than we were in Ohio! I'm almost to the Indiana border. Close to Richmond, Indiana.
I have to go grade papers. I don't know why I always put it off. |
Hi Everyone,
It's been a beautiful day here. I did plant a few plants and then sat in the swing for awhile just listening to the birds sing. It was so relaxing. :) Pat got home around 12:30, I'm glad he is home. I know it was a short trip but it's the first time I've been alone since Seamus died. We went and had pizza for lunch today. I only have 7 points left for the week and I have to make it until Friday. OOPS!!! I wish it was as easy to lose as it is to gain!!! |
Thank you all for the really warm welcome. It has just been really nice here the last few days. Hubbie planted flowers in my front plot, so now it really looks like Summer is coming.
Tammy--we are close! I was living near Dayton OH (working in Cincinnati) & was relocated to the Indianapolis office, so I live in Indianapolis & work here & my hubby lives near Dayton & works there. We travel on the weekends. I go there one weekend & he comes here the next--so I go thru Richmond every other weekend. I am just going through my old WW stuff to refresh my mind on what has what points--boy am I ever surprised that I remember as much as I do. I just need to get organized now to get journaling & tracking. |
Howdy Ya'll,
Hope everyone is doing good. I'm watching Good Morning America and they are talking about the bombing in Oklahoma City. They are interviewing the mother of the baby that the fire fighter was carrying. It just breaks my heart even 10 years later. I've decided to put an application in the district where I worked last year. I'm going to see if I can get a kinder job for next year. It will be different and I've taught it before. I don't know if the deaf ed job is going to come through and I don't want to just sit and wait and have nothing. Hope you have a great day. |
Good morning all,
Instead of getting on the ole treadmill, I've been outside in this beautiful weather working in the backyard. There are these disgusting weeds that always come up against the fence. I've pulled a lot---there are so many that no one but me could tell any are gone. Susan, I'm sorry you don't think the deaf ed job will come thru. That's your true love, I know. But, better be safe than sorry about getting some job. I just wish you could have what you wanted! :) Tammy, how many more weeks of school? I bet you are already counting them down. Sis, how is your weather? When does your Spring actually start? Mimi, I hope you have less stress in your life this week. ;) Loodie, that's horrible that you and your husband have to live apart because of work. How are the gasoline prices up there? I bet you spend a bundle. I pay $2.23 a gallon for the medium priced gas. Motts, Christine, Tina637, Rosalita, and all you others out there---Maureen---please post and let us know what's going on with you. Tina :flow1: |
